After going to the Farmer's Market Saturday afternoon we were hungry so decided to go somewhere downtown for lunch. Originally we planned to eat at Cafe Muse but was told wait would be 45 minutes for a table. The solution....Condado Tacos! Upon arrival, we were seated right away. I ordered a margarita flight and we shared a half size guacamole with chips. That was the best part of the meal! I also ordered the new Yuzu Shrimp bowl with lettuce as a base. I expected it to be better...the shrimp were micro miniature in size like popcorn shrimp and overcooked. Hard, chewy and no flavor. Yuck. I also was disappointed in the amount of lettuce underneath the pico and cabbage....barely a 1/2 cup as the base. Our server was attentive, friendly, and even cracked some jokes with us and chatted. However, next time I'll be hitting up Mesa or Iron Horse down the street for Tex Mex cuisine. I love the hipster atmosphere and vibrant wall graffiti art at each of their locations but it didn't make up for my entree today. It was pretty good for just $2.85. The tacos were mid. I got the Blue Dream, Lucy's Fire, and Bad Habit. The shells were the simple shells you could buy at the grocery store. I was disappointed they didn't have a homemade flavor. The tacos were messy and had a lot of filler in them like rice. The Blue Dream was a copycat of Taco Bell's Gordita Crunch. Always a huge fan of condado! My boyfriend and i always go for happy hour. It looks like they changed their happy hour discounts as well as got rid of my favorite margarita flavor - the prickly pear which was a bummer. For appetizers we got the smoked cheddar queso which is always one of our favorites and the new strawberry fields guac. The guac was pretty good and everything complemented eachother extremely well i personally love strawberries so it was a new favorite for me. For tacos i got the blue dream and cali green and my boyfriend got the ooey gooey and dado supreme. The blue dream and cali dream are some of the best tacos i have ever ate. The flavors and toppings together blended with the sauces (avocado ranch and chipotle honey) make it unique and unlike any other tacos i have had before. As for the ooey gooey and dado supreme they had some heat to them but were more basic tacos. Overall the food here is always on point. I had the black bean and rice base, I added chicken, pickled onions, onion and cilantro , Monterey Jack, Mexican chimicharri. This was one fat burrito. The flavors were unbelievable. Very fresh tasting. The I had a BYO taco. Pork, pineapple salsa, pickled onion and red cabbage with cilantro lime creama what fresh taste this taco had. I drank lemonade still on alcohol restriction. This was a terrible experience. 1) the waitress we initially had was not welcoming and appeared to have an attitude from the very beginning. 2) they messed up our orders and gave us chorizo innuendo that we didn't realize until we took a bite..we don't eat meat and they gave my friend raw onions on her food after she said 2x to make sure there are no foods in her tacos 3) I mentioned the issue with the food to the waiter and he put his face all the way i to our food to inspect like he didn't believe us..it didn't feel hygienic. 4) they barely had any filling in these tacos and they tasted very bland On the positive, they comped us for the two tacos they messed up and said they have some new staff. I tried Condado for the first time 3 years ago and couldn't wait to return on a recent trip to Detroit. I got the chicken bacon ranch taco and the blue dream. Both were fantastic. The margaritas were a little sweet for my taste, but man were tacos good. I had one of each of the plant based tacos and they were delicious. The order or guacamole was also delicious and a decent amount for 4 people. My patented ordered a half order of the tots, and I would just recommend getting a full order if you want more than 4 tots. Bowl was good but seemed to be lacking something, maybe it was the chicken flavor, I'm not sure. But I ate it all so it wasn't a bad thing, just not a big pop of flavor there. ! I've never had a bad experience the 3 times I've been here. Get seated quickly, if you're a group of 6+ I recommend a reservation. Only about 50-60 seats, a smaller condado location. Your food comes out so quick and actually put together that you are only in there for 40 minutes at most. Good for a group of friends or a casual date spot. read more

I have been wanting to come here for a while now so Cinco de mayo was a great day to do it! We started off at Mesa and then moved next door. Royal oak is always a fun spot to hang out. You can really find a million spots to enjoy. Walking in, this place is much smaller than I expected. It's beautifully decorated with the great Mexican theme. We found spots at the bar and I ordered a flight of margaritas. He grabbed a beer and we sat and enjoyed ourselves. I wasn't a fan of the watermelon version so he drank that for me. The Bad Habit is my favorite of the two though--the streak is tender and juicy and large cuts of meat. It blended in very well with the beans and had I not looked closely and saw the wings I would have not noticed. Never eating here again. I ate part of my meal at the restaurant. I've heard really good things about this place, and have had it on my short list of places to visit in Royal Oak for some time. I wanted to go sooner and dine in, but due to Covid-19 restrictions, that got put on hold. Since I was out here on this side of town running errands, I figured I could finally stop in and have a good meal. I know it's not a traditional taco place, and they put their own spin on the food here. I was excited to try something different for once, and wasn't sure what to get. After I was seated, I reviewed the menu for a bit and couldn't decide what to get. I chose to get two of the braised and confused tacos since I couldn't decide on what to get with the build your own tacos. It doesn't come with a side of rice or beans and it does cost extra, so I passed on it. I was hungry, but not *that* hungry anyway. I really liked the braised and confused tacos, and they were quite filling. The portions are decently sized, so two did it for me. I could have had a third but that would have been to much for me at that time. Also, after reviewing the menu again, I realized that I think they only have black beans available and I don't even know if it's a side or something you add on to the tacos. I'm not a huge fan of black beans in most forms, and if I'm having Mexican, I prefer the traditional re-fried beans served at most places. But, this place is pretty "non traditional" in the sense that it's not just regular old Mexican food, which I am totally fine with. I probably could have done a side of rice, but that was more of an after thought when I was done with my meal. For my two tacos and a pop, with tip it was about $15. I could have spent closer to $20 if I was starving, and while this is on the more expensive end for me, it really is a nice treat to have a good meal like this. Seating here is ample, and they do have a patio, which is great especially with the weather being so nice. On the same note, I wouldn't say that this place is really a spot for large gatherings either. It's not small, but the biggest tables seemed to be for 6. (not a place I would have a large happy hour gathering for parties more than that.) Overall, I really enjoyed my meal here and would gladly go again in the future. My only complaint was the lighting in here was extremely dark and made it difficult to see the menu. It was so dark I had to use the flashlight on my phone to read and see what was going on. The server didn't say a peep about it even though she was at my table no less than 3 times prior to me ordering. No, I didn't say anything about it because I was able to use my flashlight, but maybe I felt like I was ordering in the dark for a bit due to the very low lighting. read more
