What went well?! Well, everything, of course, as usual for 30+yrs! I try to closely watch my figure, but with Coney I-Lander right down the street from my new house that's impossible. I have been coming to this location for several years. Last two times I have been I ended up leaving. Was waiting in line for more than a few minutes and the only thing one of the employees said to me was "What's up?" but then crickets. I was upset and an employee perhaps the manager did talk to me and said they were sorry and the meal was on the house but .... I work and do not take charity. All I expect is the order to be right and with this free food nope, I ordered a small container of chili and two hot dogs my standard order for years. They brought the chili and brought out a large container, so being free I should not complain? Only expecting my order to be correct is not too much to ask. I just left. I really like this location because it is close to a few places I frequent. I have never dined-in, but you have to order inside; it is very clean and well kept. The staff is always friendly and helpful. I also get speedy service every time I visit. Now, they are known for their coneys, but I like to get the tamales (with cheese and light on the onions). I read they had $1 coneys on Sunday's well that is March not February. It has been quite a while since I have been there. The coneys are as good as they were back in the day. The bread is soft, the hotdogs yummy and the chili, onions and mustard makes it the best coney around. read more

in 1972 I was introduced to coneys and cayenne pepper here by my step father. Every Saturday after the chores were done we would load up and go get coneys. Since that time I have dined here at least every couple of weeks and like they say, it hasn't changed a bite. Made fresh and hot just the way you want them and as many as you want to eat. It's said that the secret is in the chili and while that may be, the fresh ingredients and dogs cook to just the right "snap" when you bite into them adds up to the best coneys in town! read more

This has always been a favorite for a great coney. However on May 28th, we had our normal great food. Staff friendly but into my first coney they had rap music on and the singer if you'd call him that dropped the F bomb. We picked up our food and left never to come back. Another couple with a young child also left. Too bad such a nice place ruined their reputation and future business by allowing such disturbing music which ran away business. read more

*As good as it gets for a classic Coney. First off, get your expectations in the right spot. This place is old and dated, pretty sure they have never remodeled. You will not find 'gourmet' hot dogs here. I found out the harsh reality that coneys are not a commodity after moving to Houston, so when I'm in town I try to hit this place up for a coney or four... If you're a first timer here is what you get: - A soda - 2-4 hot dogs, Toppings: Chili (yes, onion (yes), shredded cheddar (yes), mustard (meh, some people will tell you this is a must) - chips if you want them. Got it? Now go find a table, it's just around the corner from ordering, if there isn't a completely empty table, just sit with someone already there, they shouldn't mind. On the table you'll find a red powder in a shaker, use it, this is cayenne pepper and it makes these go from average to superb. I hope you like it! There are many of us around the country who don't have access to such luxuries all the time. read more

We have been buying Coneys for over 40 years. Always love them - nothing better. However, we to the one in Owasso on 12/7/2021 and we were disappointed for the first time. The hotdogs they used were terrible - tough, overcooked, with a bad taste. I stopped by to let them know and they said they were using new hotdogs and that they were getting many complaints. Wow. I grew up eating at Coney I-Lander with my grandma. She would tell me every time we went in about how she used to get 2 coneys and a drink for a quarter. She also said that in all of the years they have stayed consistent and haven't changed a bite. I love these little hotdogs. I prefer just chili and cheese. If you have never had a coney before, know this, coney chili is a little thinner and more tangy than a normal chili some people love it some people hate it. Another excellent menu item is the tamales. I get them smothered in chili with cheese on top. They also have chili three way though I have never tried it. The staff is always friendly and welcoming. The dinning room section also has a word scramble puzzle. They are usually quotes. I like to sit and figure out the puzzle while eating my coneys. By time I went, they weren't even at their East Downtown location anymore. But, on Friday August 8th, I saw an opening. After months of distance, I made plans with a friend to meet face-to-face for breakfast. She initially offered to meet at Wildflower but I to try my luck at Bramble (they're only a block apart). I arrived around 10:20am to check out the table wait. It was packed but I was surprised at how much floor space there was. She came about 5-10mins later and voilà! We were seated in like 5mins after that. As we coasted toward our table, in the middle toward the back, I noticed how the modern fixtures & décor compliment the rustic building: large glass windows, light fixtures throughout and large art pieces to capture your thoughts. We were met with 2 servers, one brand new & a seasoned staff-lady who was showing him the ropes. It was great having 2 servers; it felt like we got twice the attention. The experienced waitress was very knowledgeable about the menu which was great because it was HUGE. Front & back, full of appealing options. Given the capacity of the restaurant, I expected the wait for the food to be super long so when the servers returned, I asked for the Breakfast Chimichanga (something I never had or heard of before). As we caught up, I began to appreciate the ambiance & efficiency of the restaurant. Besides a few waiting to pay, no one seemed angry or displeased. The food arrived quicker than I thought! For prime-time seating, it came in about 5-10mins. Having never eaten a chimichanga before, I was definitely surprised at what I ordered and had second thoughts. It was without a doubt good but I figured the meal would've been heartier considering the list of ingredients that were included. I felt the meal was more crisp bread (tortilla) than hashbrown, eggs, or chorizo. I am 100% taking the blame on the meal because I didn't know what I want. My friend got some combination of eggs, meat, potatoes & a margarita, she loved it. Somehow, Bramble has come to be known as one of the more bourgeois brunch restaurants in all of the land. Now that I've atleast ate there, I can say that it's not as overwhelming as it's been made out to be. Unfortunately I feel like the meal choice wasn't up my alley but I do think that Bramble can be both enjoyable& fulfilling under the right circumstances.
