Absolutely THE BEST hotdogs I've have in my life...EVER! Owner was on site. staff was pleasant and helpful. The smells when you walk in will make you hungry, if you weren't already. The Chicago dog was my absolute favorite! Toppings so freaking fresh, and whatever they use to pickle their veggies, including the little peppers is nothing like I've tasted. Oh my gosh, SO GOOD!!! I also had a coney, and the meat chili was perfectly seasoned. Not like someone threw some Ortega taco seasoning on it, and you wonder what's in there. this was legit seasoned with their own blend. so simple and good! The baklava was also great, and a nice treat. Simple place, amazing food! I've been around and had my share of great hotdogs, but these were the best ever. read more

The menu hasn't changed in 50 years,still incredible. So last night I ordered a gyro. I'd never had theirs before. WOW. I've had gyros everywhere and I have to say I believe that theirs is the best one I've had. This place surprised me. I'm going back as soon as they open to order a few for the refrigerator. A nice nice frills Coney Island Dog. So I love this place? Yes. Will I frequent it often? No. Why not? Well, it's not because of the parking (which is amazing btw) or the service (excellent). The food is just so freaking good you can easily over eat! My go to? 3 Coney Island Dogs and a side of fries (see why I can't frequent here to much?). I've loved Coney Island for years. I will say that any Coney dog isn't going to travel very well, depending on how far you're going. In my case, it's probably a 25 minute drive home from Coney Island so the bun tends to be soggy by the time I get home, but I'm not complaining! Their coney sauce isn't like many others. It's more beefy than anything. Some is very ketchup based and this is not! The meat is very fine and from what I hear it cooks for a very long time so it's very tender and flavorful. I get a typical coney dog with mustard, coney sauce and onions. They're SO GOOD! You can also get fries, cheese fries or chili cheese fries. Their fries are shoe string fries, in case you're wondering. Gyros are something else on their menu and they definitely know how to make a gyro. Everything about them is perfect and spot on. You shouldn't be disappointed in either a coney dog or a gyro from here. If I were you, I'd get one of each, at least! read more

Pretty nice spot overall. Just got a burger and my colleague got a hotdog. My burger was nice and juicy and my friend nearly inhaled the hotdog. Great spot to have a quick bite. Staff was very friendly and polite. Socially distanced dining is enforced. So it's comforting to know that and feel safe. read more

LOVE these dogs! Almost as much as I love real dogs. Just to be clear, I don't eat or condone the eating of, real dogs. It's wrong, immoral, and impossible to get them on one bun. But I digress. The food here at Coney Island is always great! Their burgers, fries, and gyros are all terrific! The service is fast and the restaurant is always clean, even the restroom, well, to be honest, I only know about the Men's room, as a nice police officer was real specific about never using the women's, but enough about my college graduation. This Coney was a mix of fast food and casual dining which made it a perfect late night stop for a snack. It was a very relaxed atmosphere. Possibly too relaxed. One of the reasons that it garners only three stars, was that the staff did not inform us as to how receive service. There's both dining and a counter at which to order. However, we stood there dumbly waiting to be seated. After a few minutes, they finally asked to be seated and they said "would you like to order first?" It was a small inconvenience but it was awkward. All that aside, the Gyros that we ordered were A+. Lamb is one of my favorite meats, and they cooked it well, juicy, but still charred on the edges. They are VERY generous with the portion. One sandwich will do. I think that fries would have been overboard. All in all, it's a great place to have in your back pocket as a late night snack when everywhere else is closed. Good food. Fast. Yummy. read more

Perfect gyros, tasty hot dogs, yummy fries. (A brief note for non-Michiganders: A Coney Island hot dog is a Michigan-style chili dog, served with onions and mustard. They have nothing to do with the neighborhood in Brooklyn.) This place does a perfectly respectable coney dog. They've recently added a "New York dog" to the menu, with sauteed onion, sauerkraut, and mustard, and it's pretty darn tasty, too. The gyros here are the ones against which I judge all others. They're careful to let the meat get a nice crispy, sizzly finish on the spit before carving it. Topped with tzatziki, tomato, and a generous helping of onions, they leave you with a kickin' case of onion breath, in the best way possible. I've had their Greek salads a few times, and found them surprisingly tasty and fresh for a hot dog joint. If you're craving fast food, skip the drive-thru chain places and stop by here for some authentic Michigan grub. read more

If you don't mind eating off styrofoam plates in a diner that's seen better days, you'll love this place! Friendly service and tasty food. We ordered the gyros with everything on it (meat, onions, tomatoes, and tzatziki sauce). The meat was super crispy and would have been delicious on its own. The tzatziki sauce was too cucumber-y and I scraped a lot of it off the sandwich. We didn't try the hot dogs, but seeing as that's what this place is known for, we'll probably stop by again to get them. You can order food to-go, and they accept credit card ("What kind of business do you think we are?" joked the cashier). Ultimately the service was friendly, but it was WEIRD at first. My boyfriend and I walk in an hour before close and are greeted not with a "welcome" or a "hello," but with a stare from an employee mopping the floor. Our worlds are paused for a few seconds as we stare at each other waiting for someone to make the first move. Finally, I say, "Are you still serving food?" The guy says yes but doesn't move from his hunched position over the mop. "Are you unwilling to serve right now?" I ask, thinking he might be pissed that we're coming in on his freshly cleaned floor. "No, we're still open for another hour," he says like my question was silly. Um, hello? You're the only employee we see in the restaurant and you haven't done anything to make us feel welcome. My boyfriend and I still stand at the entrance, not sure if we seat ourselves or order at the counter, so I have to ask, "We've never been here before. What do we do?" Since when does the customer lead the show? The guy finally kicks into gear and presents the restaurant as he should, explaining where things are on the menu. Not the best start, but I'm thinking the guy was just the cashier. We saw the cook smoking outside before we entered the restaurant, and the employee maybe felt like he couldn't progress our service without the guy who makes the food. The employees were nice and asked how our food was as we cleaned our table to leave. Despite a strange introduction, I liked the service enough to want to visit again. read more

First time I have eaten at this location and it's been years since I ate at the original location. I had a Chicago dog and a chili dog. Both with everything. The Chicago dog was good. Did not have everything a real Chicago dog has but that did not matter it was still really good. They don't use the real Chicago dog buns and sport peppers but that does not matter to the final taste. They use sliced jalapeños and this is just fine. I was disappointed in the chili dog. Not the one I remember having downtown. The chili seemed really dry and not a lot of taste. Fries were good. I hear so much about the Gyro that I would give that a try next time. Maybe it's the downtown spots great nostalgic vibe that makes them taste better since I am sure the recipe is the same. read more

Food great. Counter service only. Hot dog cooker moved doges around grill with gloves on, then wiped hand of gloves on her apron. Opened refrigerator doors with same gloves. This must be very sanitary? Carpet in dining room is the filthiest I have ever seen in any restaurant even a home. Another patron also commented on how dirty the carpet was. Coney Island Dogs that are the best, must order the cheese fries and a root beer in a frosted mug. You can not go wrong with a burger or gyro either. Go to the store downtown Kalamazoo, which is closed on Sunday. They do take credit cards. read more

pretty average all around. we had the chili dog with everything, and well it was a commodity hot dog with canned chili or what tasted like canned chili, pretty average at best. The fries were simple and done well. The gyro with everything was good but really not anything special and a bit stingy on the sauce, but to their credit they offered more when asked. The vegetarian gyro was good too, again not anything special. So if your close and your hungry they fit the bill, prices are reasonable and the service was very good. So worth a try but I will explore other options next time. read more

My husband is always trying to find little gems in our lives that bring a bit of the flavors, sounds and taste of home for me to feel less home sick not that it helps or replaces the feelings of being away from my family but what it does is show how caring he can be. I oddly miss those silly grilled hotdogs on the hotdog carts and when my husband founds this place I was sold. It's even better it reminds me of the foods I ate when I was in High school I lived in East York for a while then moved but finished high school by traveling and you know this place is really close to the type of foods that I grew up on. read more

As one of 2 places in Kalamazoo to get a chicago style or coney hot dog I'm just not getting all the hype. Each time I've been there they have been out of some key ingredient or food. Once it was their "famous" chili sauce and this past time it was fries. I know things happen and things run out but definitely a turn off for me. read more

These folks are awesome. I went in for a quick lunch while waiting for phone repair. The service far exceeded typical fast food places. I got two coneys. I got locked out of my car in their parking lot so I thought, I'LL EAT. I otherwise would never have gone in. I love hot dogs, but I can just make them at home or go to Sonics. There were only two other people there and the food area was a bit shady. The cook/server was not especially friendly and looked tired and overworked or lazy(?) I was surprised that it was pretty good. It was neat given the type of food. I had a coney dog and fries. The fries were really pretty good! Like McDonald's fries. Decided I wanted one of their gyros with some cheese fries for lunch. Called them from work to order take out so I didn't have to stand in the line ( downtown Kalamazoo store can get busy at lunch). Ordered the Gyros and fry combo. They said it would be ready in 15 minutes. I arrived in 20 minutes on purpose so it would be ready. Walked in and asked about my take out order if phoned in, they said "get in line." They didn't even start making my "called in take out order" until I got to the cash register. Then the gal told me $8.35 and asked me what kind of drink I wanted. I told her that I ordered just the gyros and cheese fries combo, not the meal. She actually rolled her eyes at me because she was going to have to re-ring it up. I said "just give me a coke and I'll pay for the meal". The Gyros was so so. Like most places stingy on the sauce and condemints. Obviously not what they used to be. I'll just go to Theo's for my gyros from now on. Employees have the typical downtown Kalamazoo snotty-a** attitude. Save yourself some annoyance and spend your money elsewhere. As an addendum, today ( the day after) I find out they charged my card $9.50 instead of the $8.35 for the meal I didn't order, but paid the &8.35 for anyway. I lined out the tip.
