It really is the full dish at an extra $2 price for the drink. The food came quickly. Chicken Rice Noodle: Had a good wok hay flavour on noodle however, it was lacking a bit on the flavour side. The chicken texture was a little weird. Salt and pepper Squid - needed salt. Nothing special. Beef and veggies rice noodle was bland. Needed more sauce. My family's go to Chinese restaurant. We went for a dinner and thankfully we called for reservations. The place was packed on the weekend and there were large parties waiting by the door. The food here is always fresh, just enough saltiness, and good portions. The price you pay is very good compared to other restaurants of the same style and area. read more

I loved the BBQ octopus, congee, and beef on iron pan; my little girl wanted noodles; my husband wanted a garlic pork rib. We got all those happened tonight. My little one was a little cranky at the beginning, but the waitress were so nice and patient, and they tried to help and calm her down. We love their service. The food came fast and they were all tasty. Just they were a bit salty to us. We asked the waitress how we could get them less sauce or what to tell the chef. Top notch food served here. We usually go to the Scarborough location. First time here. The dining room is spacious and modern. The only problem is the parking lot here. Very hard to find parking spots. The food was excellent. We ordered roasted duck and pork combo. The duck was a bit chewy for some parts. I would have preferred the tender meaty pieces. The roasted pork has the glistening crispy pork skin and hoi sin sauce to dip. The salt and spice peper squid was crispy and just the right amount of spice. The Singapore fried turnips are one of my favorite dishes when I go to these Congee restaurants. Think of it as the Chinese version of home fries at a breakfast place. Dip these bad boys in chili oil and you'll be in heaven. We also tried the fried beef udon noodles and great wok hei on the noodles. We had lots of leftovers to take home. The female server was very kind and checked on us regularly. She even helped pack our leftovers. Great service is hard to come by in some Chinese restaurants. Mr. Congee is one of those Chinese restaurants with dishes similar to Congee Queen. There are several restaurants in this plaza so it can be hard to find parking during dinner time. Although there are lots of tables, we always make a reservation since they can get busy. The inside is bright and spacious and they also have rooms for private/larger groups as well. I'd say the food is pretty decent / typical of a Chinese restaurant. It's flavourful but not too salty, nor is it too oily. The service is decent. Would recommend the turnip cake for sure! read more

Mr. Congee is a fast paced and modern Cantonese restaurant. It is very popular and often completely full! The turnover is quite quick, which comes with advantages (fresh ingredients) and disadvantages (very noisy and time limit). We went there during a very busy time of the year and ordered a diverse selection of dishes, from duck to stir-fried vegetables. Everything came pretty quickly with that characteristic no-nonsense service. The food was good, with some dishes better than others. the salt and pepper fish cutlets were somewhat dry, whereas the steamed scallops with XO sauce were too oily (not to mention incredibly expensive at the unlisted market price). The Beijing duck was popular as usual, and the beef sirloin stir-fry with vegetables was tender and flavourful. We recently tried the Holiday Roast Duck & Double Lobster Set Meal ($288) at Mr. Congee, and it was a memorable experience overall--perfect for a special occasion or family dinner. The set came with a generous lineup of dishes. The assorted BBQ combo looked great on the platter, but a couple of the meats (particularly the char siu) were on the drier side. Flavor-wise, still solid, but texture could have been better. The crab meat with fish maw thick soup was rich, savory, and comforting--definitely a crowd-pleaser. The Peking roast duck was one of the stars of the night: crispy skin, juicy meat, and all the classic fixings. We also appreciated the follow-up dish using the remaining duck meat (served with crisp lettuce wraps) which was a nice savory stir-fry. The double lobster stir fry with ginger and green onion was excellent. Fresh, tender lobster meat, cooked just right and full of aromatic flavor. The Chinese-style mango beef tenderloin was another standout--sweet, tangy, and very tender. The stir-fried fish filet and snow pea leaves with king mushroom helped balance out the richness of the meal with lighter, cleaner flavors. Service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Tea refills, clean plates, and pacing of dishes were all handled well--though the table did get a little crowded as everything came out in fairly quick succession. Second time visiting this restaurant after a few years. Went for dinner and overall food was good. The service was quick, good environment, seating and all. We ordered vegetarian Cantonese chowmein which was really good and the Peking duck was excellent (pancakes & lettuce wrap). The tofu didn't have as much flavour as I'd like but was still good. Though the hot and sour soup was fairly bland and not much flavour. Overall the meal was good. One complaint was that the utensils weren't the cleanest, had to use the tea to clean it off a bit. Great food with the typical Chinese restaurant service. Came here with a large group with no reservations and was ignored multiple times by the hostess, which is also running around the restaurant doing many other things. Eventually they asked us how many for the table, but never gave us a number or told us how long the wait would be. Being super short and ignoring us once again. Eventually, our entire group of ten people decided to leave next door to Keungs Delight since we had no idea how long the wait would be. Once we got to the other side of the street, we hear the hostess running out to us calling us back that the table was ready haha! We actually went back into the restaurant and was so glad we did. The restaurant is newly renovated so it's nice and bright in there! Food was really good and reasonably priced, especially with a larger group. Got the typical Chinese sharable dishes of fried turnip cakes, sauteed eggplant, fried rice noodles, clay pot oyster, peking duck and clay pot rice. I've always enjoyed exploring new places to dine so when my friend, @jenktraveltoeat, suggested we go to Mr. Congee after work, it didn't take much arm twisting. This location, in Markham, hasn't been open very long, maybe about a month. It has a bright, very attractive interior with classy furniture and fixtures. They even have private rooms for small groups. Very nice! We ordered from their Afternoon Tea Combo menu - Grilled Squid Skewers, Deep Fried Chicken Wings in Dry Fish Sauce, Fried Chili Turnip Patties, and Fried Rice Noodle w/Beef & Soya Sauce. Everything was good but the squid stood out as our favourite. It was perfectly cooked and very flavourful. Beverages were included so we chose the Fresh Red Bean Freeze with Ice Cream, and Iced Pineapple drink. Both were very refreshing. Happy to see Mr. Congee open up a newly renovated space in Markham. I find that this location isn't as good as it's Scarborough location, but still way better than the Richmond Hill one. Came here for dinner and ordered the clay pot rice and a braised tofu dish. Prices seem to be the same or similar, and the dishes were pretty good but the clay pot rice portion is smaller than in Markham. Clay pot rice is freshly made and had a great crusty layer of rice and a good amount of toppings. The tofu dish was a bit salty but was a good sized portion and freshly made. Its saucy with the beef + veggie which was fine and portion is good. 2 Item BBQ Meat- $15.75 (Got Crispy Pork & BBQ Pork) - Both were good and came with different sauce type Chili Turnip Patties- $12.5 - We've tried many places for this particular dish and found this place to have the best made so far. Its light crisp to each turnip patty and the shrimp was a bit bigger than other places. These three meals come with hot beverage of tea/milk tea so we go the milk tea which has a nice taste to it. We had 6 adults, 2 kids, 2 toddlers and 1 baby. We ordered 11 dishes. Our family are gluttony eaters, and if we didn't finish them we can always take the leftovers to go and eat them the next day. Walking in, I was surprised to see how nice it was, my sister in law who is not Asian was shocked to see how nice and newly renovated it is compared to other Asian restaurants that she's been to. Food was tasty, what I would expect at Mr.Congee We got free taro dessert and it was goopy and not very good at all, it didn't even look like taro dessert. The waiter forgot our gwai fei chicken (that's one of my favourite dish), but we told them about it and we were able to cancel it out of the bill since it didn't arrive by the time we finished our meal. The portions of fried rice and fried noodle dish were small, it was missing 1/4 more of what I'm used to at other Cantonese establishments, but we ordered white rice to make up for it. The food here is just as great as the original location. This location, in comparison, is significantly larger and clearer. The decor is really nice. However, I found the service here to be worse than the original location, which soured the experience. The staff seem stressed and often with a bad temper. For instance, I understand if you're someone who is running the food versus taking the order. However, I think it would be more appropriate to convey that in a neutral (or kind, if possible) tone. Instead, two separate staff were quite exasperated with some of our group members and borderline rude when stating such statements. Including a few photos of food as well - the duck dish that's cooked two ways is phenomenal if you have a big group. It's such a good dish to share. Updated Review: We used to come here several times a week but our past 2 experiences have been awful. The "manager" (elder lady with short hair) that hosts up front has terrible attitude & intentionally refuses to offer us the window seating on many occasions even though we have 4-5 people for dinner. (Turns around and gives it to another party of 2 after we're seated at another spot) She made us feel quite uncomfortable the last two times we visited, even after we gave it a second try in hopes it was a one-off. It's a shame because we absolutely love the atmosphere & food here, but the service from this manager is unacceptable. Other staff seem to be aware of her poor attitude as well. read more

Beautiful and clean interior! The dining room is very big with plenty of tables/seats. We came for brunch right when they opened and the place started filling up shortly after we placed our order. The fish filet congee was good, but I didn't care for the chicken congee too much. It lacked chicken flavoring, more like plain congee. The beef wide rice noodle dish is not my favorite. I have had way better in Markham, so I wouldn't recommend getting it here. The sour plum sauce for the pipa duck was phenomenal and really made the dish. The skin on the duck was roasted to perfection! The X.O. fried turnip cakes were also very delicious and cooked well without being too greasy. Overall great service and fresh food. read more

The inside of their new Markham location is spacious and nicely decorated. Service was fast and attentive given how busy it was. Portions ranged from decent to a bit small for the price, but the quality of each dish was high, definitely with enough ""wok hei"". My personal favourite was their spare ribs clay pot rice, had just the right balance of ""crisp"" from the crusting of the rice (my favourite part) and also ample portions of spare ribs and flavour from that sauce/oil. I've heard mixed reviews about this place - mostly negative, and decided to give it a try myself. We came on a weekday afternoon and had to wait around 15 minutes for a table of three. This place surprisingly was quite busy even on a weekday afternoon. They have a mix of small and large tables, as well as four private dining rooms for larger groups with a minimum order of $400 during dinner hours. They have daily combo specials - we ordered the Wednesday specials, one order of each. Servers were friendly and attentive. The food came fairly quick and we were overall pleased with the taste and quality. The roasted pork skin was crispy, meat was juicy. The beef noodle could use a bit more flavour - may be more suitable for those who prefer it on the lighter side. The sides were decent. They give 5% discount off your bill. Despite the negative reviews, we were overall happy with our experience and will definitely be returning. Meat Ball Congee - I'd like to say, I won't be ordering this anymore. It came with 2 fish ball size mean ball. We came towards the end of lunch service 130pm. Servers are running away from tables and weren't happy looking really. After attempting to flag down the 6th server, they finally took our order sheet. This resto is so nicely deorated that I felt like I was sitting in a upscale casual Chinese family restaurant. The servers wore uniforms, too. Together they set my expectation high on the food. The expectation was not met during my lunch visit. We ordered a Hainanese Chicken Rice dish and a Malaysian Style Stir Fry Noodle dish. The Hainanese chicken tasted okay but was a bit overcooked. Hainanese chicken is supposed to be cooked to "just cooked", to highlight the tenderness and juiciness of the chicken. I guess the management may be concerned about the risk of serving undercooked chicken, so the chicken was fully and thoroughly cooked. The sauces tasted nice though. The Malaysian Style Stir Fry Noodle tasted very bland. This noodle is supposed to taste rich and bold. I regret that my noodle tasted blander than a Cantonese style stir fry noodle. My dining mate tasted test the noodle and confirmed my opinion. I added salt half way through lunch. I probably would patronize again but would not order this noodle dish again. read more

This is a new restaurant at New Kennedy Square that has taken over a long-standing Chinese restaurant, so I believe there were high expectations for what was replacing it. My parents made a reservation quickly after they heard it was opened, and we went as a party of 5 for lunch on a weekday. It was very packed and busy, and I don't think they have enough experienced waitstaff for that yet. We ordered some of their daily special sets, a bowl of congee and a rice noodle dish. The daily sets change every day. I think the daily sets are portioned for one person, but they are still quite pricey, about $15. I liked the cha siu but the rice was kind of hard in texture, so I preferred the fried rice cakes. It also comes with 3 side dishes which were decent. However, I was not too impressed with the congee. It felt like it was very cornstarch-y and kind of bland. The rice noodles were alright, very average. Arrived at 8pm to be told we had to wait 30 mins for our tables. Food arrived fairly quick, but throughout dinner it was very difficult to get the attention of any wait staff for service. Ordered extra wraps for our Peking duck when placing our initial order but it never came. Tried to follow-up on the order twice with 2 different wait staff, still never got it! Fought for the bill with a friend who had secretly given them a cash deposit before dinner, that I was not aware of, and was told by the cashier that my debit card was not money! However they do accept debit as form of payment. Needless to say I was very offended by that remark! It was obvious they prefer to receive cash payment vs debit, but I didn't appreciate that comment and thought it was rude of her to say that. We will not be coming here again. read more
