My daughter and I had breakfast at Connie's on a Saturday morning. Connie greeted us as we walked in. We sat in the sunny back patio area. I ordered the apple pie french toast and my daughter ordered the Spanish omelet. Our meals were very tasty and we appreciate that Connie uses fresh and high quality ingredients. This was my first visit to Connie's, and brunch was perfect! Ordered Eggs Benedict and hash browns...perfectly cooked and very tasty. Small and cosy, and felt like dining in a friend's kitchen. If it was my friend's kitchen, I would mention that I wouldn't mind a little more lemon in the Hollandaise. Coffee was great, and served in big mugs just like home. Fantastic restaurant! I tried to leave a review for them on GrubHub where I ordered my food, but they don't have a way to do so. But first let me say the ordering and delivery process was excellent. Every time I go to Connie's for breakfast it has been memorable. Today was no exception only more. I had to really think about this because I've had a lifetime of country gravy. However, today I had the best gravy and country fried steak I have every had. Seriously! The gravy was like some Frenchman had made it. My roommate reported her Denver Omelet was the bomb. We adore Connie, and we adore Connie's where every morsel is fabulous. We are lunch folks so I haven't tried breakfast, but I bet it is every bit as good as lunch. Ordered from this place through door dash and was really looking forward to trying it bc of all the great reviews. However, I am extremely disappointed and would NOT recommend this place to anyone. The OWNER is extremely rude and unprofessional. When we received our food it was cold, we had no utensils, no syrup for the French toast, no butter and no dressing for our salads. When we called to see what can be done bc we literally can't eat our food, the owner told us she was really busy right now and pretty much said tell me what you want so I can go. We asked to be compensated and she refused and hung up on us. This is the most unprofessional establishment I have ever come across in San Diego. What I could eat of the food was bland. Came here on a rainy day, a Tuesday morning. The cool weather caused a craving for comfort food. After dropping dog off to the groomer, went on yelp and searched for breakfast and this gem of a cafe popped up. Six tables (two of which seat two) and a bar (service) area take up the cafe's tight space. The service is on par with places of a small town feel --super friendly and familiar. Cute message blocks take up the walls declaring, "I need new haters the old ones are starting to like me," "Behave! What happens today will go viral tomorrow," and "I'd agree with you but then we'd both be wrong." Connie's serves no nonsense traditional comfort food, very reasonably priced, $9.95 for eggs Benedict with hash browns. I got mine with a side of bacon ($3.95). Two customers came in to pick up to go orders while I was there. By the time I paid the bill, every table was taken. I think this is a place for locals in the know. Came for breakfast on a Sunday. The place is TINY but even then we only waited about 25 min for breakfast which I think is pretty standard for a Sunday. I love the decor with all the funny signs on the wall. The server was nice and seemed friendly although the poor guy was doing it all alone. I'm sure if he had extra help he would've been even more talkative. Regardless, he was attentive. I had the Lulu Benedict which is a Benny variation. OMG the Hollandaise was so good! Next time I'm going to ask for extra hollandaise! I tried some of the meatloaf & eggs. I've never seen that option before and it's delish! They have flavored creamer which is a huge plus for me! Yay! The staff was very nice, and the breakfast was fast-arriving, but they place was super-slow! The real concern is healthier ingredient options, ie; real butter, maple syrup, etc. I asked for my eggs to be cooked in butter, but was told they only use margarine. No Maple syrup. Only Mrs. Butterworths, which is conventional grocerystore toxic waste with every ingredient, but anything remotely close to actual maple syrup. Then, I asked for my bacon to not be crispy, and it shattered into a million pieces when it arrived. The egg was seemingly fresh at least! The waitress was very nice though, but obviously has to answer to a seemingly, "my way or the highway" owner. Rather than voice my opinion on having options, I ate my breakfast and made sure to take a couple of digestive enzymes with it and move about my day! But yeah, I would NOT recommend this place to anyone that is concerned about eating somewhat healthier food ingredients! My family lives down the street so we decided to walk to Connie's and grab some brunch. I had my pup with me so we sat outside. Very friendly and accommodating service. It was a bit warm outside so they brought my dog some water. I had the Country Benedict which had biscuits with sausage patties and poached egg smothered in country gravy. The meal also came with hash browns. Hash browns were deliciously golden with a crispy exterior. The country benedict was very good as well and eggs were cooked perfectly. Nice atmosphere, very homey, cute signs all over the walls. Very tiny restaurant, 22 seats total in the restaurant. The owner Connie is so sweet and down to earth. The food was ok, nothing great. I had an omelet with spinach, tomatoes, mushrooms, avocado and feta. If you order this ask for extra feta because it needs it. The whole omelet tasted like bland spinach and the home fries weren't very good. But the service was wonderful and the atmosphere was nice. I think the prices are a bit high for the quality but meh, it's California. She gave a free home made cookie at the end of the meal that was amazing! By far Connie's is my favorite home style breakfast spot to go to. I live further north in Long Beach and my Bf lives here in Vista and brought me here for breakfast one more and I have loved it since. I get the same thing all the time - Eggs Benedict. It never disappoints. It's one of my favorite breakfast dishes and I've tried many versions of it an plenty of other restaurants, and I can say, this is one of my favorites, the hollandaise sauce is delicious, I get mine with extra of the sauce and use the toast to dip in it.
