Was taking a short walk post brunch with friends along Middlefield and the aromas drew us in. The inside has a throwback vibe that looks like it was from when the shop was opened over 40 years ago. The space is divided into two major sections - the front entrance which is where they sell coffee beans and the back room which includes a coffee bar where you can order various coffee drinks. The man at the front was so nice and knowledgeable about his beans. I've got too many coffee beans at home at the moment but wanted to try the coffee from the bar. It being in the afternoon, I had to order a decaf and it was seriously one of the best decaf coffees I've ever had. I'm new to the whole fresh roasted coffee thing, having come off of instant stuff for the past few years (which honestly is still pretty decent, if you ask me). But after doing a bit of googling, I heard great things about Connoisseur Coffee, swung by, chopped it up with the owner a bit, and left with a drip coffee and some fresh roasted Kenyan AA light roast. And I gotta say, whatever this Kenyan high grade goodness is is amazing. It's got some buttery undertones about it with some slight sour flavors around the edges, that make for something very pleasant and unique (to me at least). Granted, I'm kinda haphazardly hand-grinding and AeroPressing, so your results will most likely vary. But man are these beans something different. I'll def be coming back here and trying out all the goods they got. The shop itself is awesome, with lots of antiques as functional decor. And you can tell the owner loves sharing coffee with others. I just found this place yesterday and I am so excited. I have found I get a bad reaction to most coffee and then discovered I don't react to coffee that is fresh roasted. That has put me on a quest to find the best fresh roasted coffee. I like it that it supports local businesses too, and I've found it's the best coffee (also the highest antioxidant rating). I usually look for shops that sell their coffee in bags so I can buy something with the roast date on it. I walked into Connoisseur coffee and was looking for bagged coffee when THEY POURED A FRESH BATCH OF ROASTED COFFEE BEANS INTO THE BIN IN FRONT OF ME - FRESH FROM THE ROASTER. Wow. Doesn't get fresher than that!!! The guy who helped me was so friendly and helpful. He gave me all sorts of information about the difference of coffee between different origins, and the acidity of different coffees etc. He was a wealth of knowledge. These guys know what they're doing. He told me they sell to a lot of restaurants so all of their coffee in the bins is no older than 2 days old. He asked some questions to match me up with the best coffee for me. I let him recommend one for me, and I'm drinking it now, and it's amazing! These guys have amazing people working there, amazing coffee, and fresh roasted. I'll be back soon. read more

Went back again 3 weeks later for more beans to try. This time, I also grabbed a bag of hot chocolate cos who doesn't love hot chocolate Once again, I appreciate how kind and patient the staffs are. Never a moment do I feel judged for not knowing my beans and caffeine. Aaron/Allan (sorry if I got your name wrong) was fun to chat with and exchange thoughts about coffee preservation and preferences. I like that they didn't care if I was coming in to buy a 1/2lb bag or a 6lb bag. They cared more about my experience with the coffee and would rather I buy what I can consume so I can enjoy my coffee. No loyalty rewards needed to bring me back. Just genuine people who loves what they do and can't wait to share it with us. Oh, I found out the "painful" way that their brewed coffee station is closed by 1pm. How have I failed to write a review for our favorite neighborhood coffee roasters!!? Service is always with a smile and friendly banter. As for the coffee - it's the best! We've tried almost all the blends and were very grateful for the decaf variety when we drank far too much coffee during the pandemic! Since then we've mostly stuck to the Woodside Blend. Tried (and loved) Mark's Blend as well. I often order small bags of these as gifts before heading home to England! I have mixed feelings on this coffee roaster. They have a nice rotating selection of coffees. They also have a decent selection of teas although they are stuck in a corner and full of dust it makes one wonder how long they have been sitting there neglected. The brewed coffees are a bit weak. They also tend to have a bit too much char aftertaste The teas tend to be bitter as in over brewed. Perhaps it was the person who made the tea? Depending on who the barista is they can be helpful or tend to be rude. Toss of the dice on that one. Anyway it's a cool roaster support local buy local and maybe brew at home. Came here on the weekend to get some tea. This coffee shop has an authentic industrial vibe. A guy was literally roasting coffee inside. So aromatic! I love that they have a legit tea selection, not the crappy commercial stuff. I ended up getting a medium cup of hot genmaicha. Damn, they gave me such a strong cup! Thumbs up. I started looking for a place to get coffee beans when I bought an espresso manchine almost 2 years ago. This was the first local roaster that I tried and the one I keep coming back to for traditional fresh roasted whole coffee beans. I've tried others, but many use a third wave process with coffee that ends up tasting sour. For whole bean espresso, I like the mocha java/french roast sumatra mandheling blend for a darker roast, a light espresso blend (now called Connoisseur espresso blend), and the decaffeinated espresso blend. They are always helpful with recommendations on beans to try. I try to bring my own canister to save 25 cents and reduce unnecessary coffee bags. If I make it there before 1pm, I can also get some coffee from their coffee bar. It's great to have a high quality, local roaster in the area with a friendly staff. read more

I love this coffeehouse! Their beans are by FAR the best I've ever had. The storefront is easy to miss but once you locate the shop, it's not too hard to find street parking. The interior is divided into two main areas: roastery in the main room, brewed coffee in an adjacent room. They have a rotating selection of brews so you can sample different varieties on every visit. Their Mexican dark roast is especially rich, dark and smooth - the most delicious kind of rocket fuel! In the most unexpected place there happens to be a fabulous coffee roasting company...I was driving down Middlefield and stopped to checkout this place. I am a coffee enthusiast, and found connoisseur coffee's dark roast to be delightfully bold! I didn't really know what to expect walking in, but I was very pleased with my experience and the coffee. The owner was very friendly....from him I learnt that they have been around for 35 years. I will be returning for more coffee and perhaps next time I will explore their wide variety of coffee beans. read more

When I retire, I'd like to sip my cappuccino, plop my laptop, and review every places I've been, at the comfort of a chic coffeehouse. For now, I'll play catch up. CC is mostly wholesale. They grind their own beans, and sell them to businesses. They are open to the public, somewhat. There are tables and chairs to enjoy your beverage, and I think there is an out door as well with a table and chairs towards the back? Since they roast their own coffee, you are guaranteed a fresh batch, and if you like your coffee strong, this is the real deal!! My cappuccino was really strong, though I prefer a smooth one, but surprisingly, I enjoyed it. The staff here is very nice, and the owner during my visit even gave me a bit of a history and what they do. If you are looking for an afternoon perk, like your coffee nice and strong, fresh of the batch, come by at Connoisseur Coffee. They serve it up in a paper cup, which is kind of a fail. But critically, the shot has zero crema, and the taste is completely charred; there is nothing else to balance it out: it's really just strong coffee. I think their espresso extraction might be off; I also got a shot at John's Cafe in Palo Alto, which uses Connoiseur Coffee, and the taste was better (maybe they used the dark espresso blend), but there was also no crema to speak of. read more

My favorite neighborhood coffee roaster; I sometimes buy it as a gift to take to my overseas relatives. Always friendly and knowledgeable service. The place is not really ideal for hanging out - it's not really a cafe, although you can buy individual cups of coffee, they don't have seating - but you can't beat the quality of the coffee they provide for the price. Parking is a little tricky, but that just makes me sympathetic for them - that street has been torn up for so long, they made it through (most) of the construction, it's getting better. read more
