The Baker Next Door is a hidden gem that's absolutely worth the visit! Everything we tried was incredibly fresh, beautifully made, and full of flavor. The pastries were perfectly flaky, the bread was crusty on the outside and soft on the inside, and the coffee paired perfectly with every bite. The cozy atmosphere and friendly staff made the experience even better. You can really taste the care and quality that goes into everything they bake. Whether you're stopping in for breakfast or an afternoon treat, this bakery is one you'll want to keep coming back to. Highly recommended! We were lucky the lines weren't too bad and they weren't out of their signature items.

Too many delicious choices! Ill be back

Outstanding bakery. The rhubarb pistachio confection was weep worthy with the almond snail just a tear behind! I would have posted a photo of the crumbly more-ish currant scones but the scatter of crumbs on my car seat would not a dignified photo make. but they were a welcome escape on the six hour drive home. The greeting was friendly, the bakery pristinely clean, and the drip coffee? Hot and robust!

Stopped by Wednesday morning for a breakfast sandwich and a flat white. Sandwich was well assembled with the highlight being the perfectly crunchy, slightly chewy bread. Coffee was good too. Decent amount of seating, especially when outdoor seating is considered. Good selection of sweet and savory pastries. Definitely a nice bakery in downtown Redwood City!

Open Tue - Sun 7:30am - 3pm The Baker Next Door is such a cute little neighborhood bakery cafe in Redwood City. They're very popular locally, I heard A LOT about them but just got a chance to try them today. Honestly, not overhyped at all. I had the Pain Suisse with chocolate and vanilla pastry cream and it was sooo good. Super buttery and flaky, with a really nice crisp outside. I also appreciated that it wasn't overly sweet like other bakeries. Sometimes pastries like this can feel heavy after a few bites, but this one was balanced really well. The cold brew was also great, bold and really refreshing. The whole place has a warm & welcoming vibe. You can see the staff working in the back making pastries, and everything smells amazing inside. Also, there are a lot of breakfast options on the menu too (if you have a mood for it). Definitely a place I will come back soon to try more items.

My business journey brought me into the Bay Area for a few hours around breakfast time. Of course, I relied on my fellow Yelper's to find a good bakery for a hot cup of coffee and pastry for breakfast. Your reviews were spot on. This place is on Main Street and with there already a line at 8am, I knew it was good to be good. The smells of fresh baked goods overwhelmed me as soon as I walked in. It looks high end but I was pleasantly surprised the prices were reasonable. $11 for a fresh blueberry muffin and a latte. So many awesome choices too. The best part was sitting at the bar watching the prepare all the pastries for baking, right in front of us! Loved this place and will come back any chance I get!

Cute cafe with lots of natural light. Pain suisse: Their take on a chocolate croissant. Nice flaky layers. Chai latte: They do a great job with lovely chai flavors. Definitely one of the better ones I've had. No WiFi, which is a downside for those looking for a place to do some work.

This is a spot I often either take people to, or recommend people stop by. Everything is pretty excellent from the bread, to the pastries, to the menu. I definitely feel like I'm eating healthy when I eat here (by no means is that a complaint... I actually love that it feels like life in each bite). My favorite dish is the salmon tartine with the poached egg added, but we've tried the Croque monsieur and it's excellent. I've also had the poached egg on toast with Kale. It's pretty tasty but a slightly too salty for me (both times). There are some pastries that are staples, and then there are some that rotates. I have a sweet tooth and love most of their sweet pastries. However, this is one of the few places where I love the savory pastries and would probably even prioritize those! I've also taken home a loaf, but I don't love that. I can't purchase a half loaf. It's what stops me from regularly buying bread here. I realize I can freeze some of the bread, but I don't have a large freezer. In my experience, I have found the staff to be helpful and friendly. Sometimes I have questions and they are patient while I make up my mind. I also noticed that when they work together, they seem to get along. I find that positivity in the culture translate into food made with love... A bit of a generalization, but it's something I've noticed. When the spot was first opened I hesitated to review. I remember walking in and being overstimulated by the music and the bright lights. Seems like they have figured it out now which I really appreciate. I often enjoy sitting on the bar stool, watching the kitchen work.

I stopped by after lunch nearby, and caught them shortly before they closed. The interactions with the staff was very brief, but the coffee and pastry were good. I had my usual, cappuccino. It was smooth and satisfying. The interior was brightly lit by the natural light coming through the windows. The vibe was relaxed and chill. The space was clean and fairly spacious. I like that there weren't a bunch of people in their laptops, because that takes away from a nice cafe experience. Not a bad place. I'd come by for another cup if I'm in the area again.

The breakfast sandwich on house ciabatta. Outstanding!

A new bakery opening up is always going to attract me; it might as well be a sale at Tiffany's (which doesn't happen in real life, btw, only in my dreams). Sigh. Anyway, this bakery sure is a site for sore eyes in downtown Redwood City. Beautiful tile? Check. High ceiling? Check. Insane light coming in? Check. Enticing display case? Check. I don't need to recommend that you stop in; if you pass by you'll want to. I love a good matcha latte. The matcha lattes here are made w/ real unsweetened matcha. Pretty bitter if you're not accustomed to it & you'll need to add sweetener. We've sampled a few things, but what we came back for was one thing... The breakfast sandwich. Holy moly good, I haven't had a breakfast sandwich on par with this one in a long time. I think it might be better than the one at Devil's Teeth in SF. Yeah, I said it. The bread. House ciabatta. Golden perfection. The eggs, the bacon, the cheese, everything tastes like quality. Dripping down my chin, my hand, my arm...who cares? This is a breakfast sandwich you dream about. Like a "sale" at Tiffany's. 4 & 1/2 stars.

Nice bakery and coffee spot. Clean and bright interior. Pain au chocolat had good texture- soft and layered on the inside, crispy on the outside. The chocolate was good. Their pastries were pretty good overall. I would say the scones were a liiiiittle bit on the drier side and the savory one to be too salty imo. The seasonal spandauer (currently featuring pear) was flavorful and had nice presentation. My latte was smooth. The taste was more on the acidic side. Bright. The beans are from proyecto diaz coffee in Oakland.

The pastries are beautiful, and the monkey bread and morning bun was really good. I was excited to try their guava Matcha however it was probably the worst Matcha drink I've ever had sadly. It had zero Matcha taste, barely any guava foam, and just tasted like straight up milk. Ended up tossing it, $8.50 down the drain.

Visited again after a few months hoping for improvement, but unfortunately the customer service was still rude and unwelcoming. We also felt discriminated against during our visit, which made the experience very uncomfortable. It's disappointing that nothing has changed since our last visit. Hope management takes customer feedback seriously and improves the service.

Was in town for a appointment. I wanted a small snack for the drive home. I've been waiting to try the pastries. Got there around 9am. There's only paid street parking around here. Saw a small line inside a crowded seating area. We ordered a almond smell and a strawberry chaussen. Also a couple of lattes. They have house made syrups. Big bonus (trying to stay away from artificial syrups). From the waiting area, you could see people actively make more pastries. The almond snell was good but kinda dry. The strawberry chaussen was flaky, had a nice buttery flavor. Super moist and fresh tasting. Next time I'm in town,I will definitely get a bigger selection of items to try.

Service is fast. Not a lot of seating inside, but there are a couple additional small tables for 2-4 people outside on the patio. Chose the cheapest item on the menu, which was the taro ube sago for $7.95 before tax. Honestly, it's pretty hard to mess up taro ube sago, so at best, I'd say it only meets the standard. It was more of a dessert soup than a pudding, which is what I expected. Serving size definitely way too small for the portion amount, even if you say the glass jar itself costs ~$2 (and that feels like a generous estimate). I've made an entire pot of taro sago that served 15 people that cost about $8 in raw ingredients. Personally don't see the value in coming back, but if you're looking for Chinese desserts in a pinch, then this place does the job.

Unfortunately, this visit felt like a restaurant that's lost some of its spark. Happy hour was actually a pleasant surprise. The prices are excellent and make it easy to sample a variety of dishes. The chicken had an unusual texture--somewhere between a chicken nugget and a crab cake. It just wasn't for me, The biggest letdown was the Bigoli e Coda. The pasta still had its signature chewy texture, but the sauce felt oily instead of rich, the braised oxtail lacked the deep, slow-cooked flavor I remembered, and the entire dish desperately needed seasoning. It used to be one of those dishes I'd recommend without hesitation. Not anymore. The seafood entrée was probably the strongest dish of the night, but even there it fell short. The fish was properly cooked, yet the skin lacked the crisp, golden finish that makes a skin-on fillet so satisfying. It was another dish that felt underseasoned and never quite came to life. That was really the theme of the evening: almost everything felt underseasoned. Nothing was inedible--it just lacked the vibrant flavors and careful execution that made Donato stand out years ago. I'm hoping this was simply an off night because Donato has earned a lot of goodwill over the years.
