Just returned from a wonderful trip to Italy. The tour guide (Marco) was fabulous. The food and hotels were top notch. Only one suggestion.... anyone with a persistent cough should be strongly encouraged to wear a mask on the bus. One person started the tour with an obvious cold and refused even cough drops when offered, and by the end had spread it to multiple people, including me. There is too much at stake for such a needless risk. Otherwise, a great tour. read more

Pat Walsh Tour - 2022 Positives: - Excellent German tour guide, Lilian. - Great tour bus and drivers. - Small group, 23 attendees. - Tour Operator knows his history very well. - Excellent area specific tour guides with exclusive behind the scenes access. - Very nice tour promoter. - Beautiful tour locations rich in history. - Fully scheduled tour days. Negatives: - Tour Promoter advertised 4-star hotels, however, 3-star at best except for two nights (of ten) were 4-star. Two nights slept on a mattress on the floor, not acceptable for the cost. - Tour Promoter advertised the best meals, most were mediocre with limited selection. - Tour Price was advertised at $4,889 plus government air tax and travel insurance. Government air taxes were $186. However, tour operator charged $583 for government air tax because the airline charged a $400 international surcharge, which is a fuel surcharge and not a government air tax. Therefore, I was overcharged by $397. - Tour Operator purchased group airline tickets on United Airlines, which made it difficult to upgrade to Economy Plus with no option to upgrade to Premium Plus or First/Business class. United was very difficult to work with for a group ticket, always had to call for help during limited hours, no online group ticket service. - Tour Operator shows no compassion towards his guests. Examples: Dropped off at hotels to check-in late in the evening (dark outside) with no luggage service and difficult terrain to navigate from the bus drop-off point to the front desk, one person tripped and fell to the ground on her face, most of the group was elderly with an average age of 70 years; No guidance for money exchange, told just go to an ATM for local currency, after bringing $500 in cash to exchange. read more

OMGoodness!! What a spectacular trip!! Went on the Grand Event Tour this past August 2023. It was hot, humid and it did rain a bit when we were in Milan. Be prepared to walk, a lot!! Although, I have to say with all the walking you do, you can eat as much as you want. Our tour guide was Romina (definitely knows her country's history and then some) and our fantastic coach driver was Rocco. Best team ever!! Met Ken Chase and he is very personable. All the hotels we stayed at were splendid and the food was fantastic. It was nice to have our own time to explore each place that we visited and have dinners of our choosing. The last place we stayed at was in the lakes region in Stresa. The weather/climate was fabulous!! It was definitely the "icing on the cake" "the cherry on top" place. You must try the "melt-in-your-mouth" Margheritine di Stresa (literally translated: Little Daisies from Stresa) cookies, should you visit there. Anyway, I would definitely do this itinerary again, but maybe not take so many pictures and actually be in the moment and really enjoy!! Yes, I would definitely do this tour again!! read more

Let me begin with my major complaint for those who have little time. My husband and I toured with Conservative Tours led by Ken Chase to Normandy for DDay this past June. 2023. Major problem: booked a busload of 30+ senior citizens into a 3-story hotel with no elevator and no assistance was offered to help with getting luggage up the steps. Plus this hotel was a no star hotel. Now back to the beginning of our tour upon arrival at Paris airport: we were met by 4 representatives of CT. We were then herded onto 3 buses. Once traveling, Ken Chase came onto speaker and proceeded to explain the day's procedure. At no time did Ken Chase during the whole trip step into the buses and introduce himself in person. He also did not introduce the radio personality from Detroit who had obviously been a catalyst for many people being on this tour. In fact he only put this personality on the microphone the last day of the tour!! This group consisted of 3 buses. Consistency, we were most mornings waiting for Ken Chase's bus!! When expressing my dissatisfaction with the no-stat, no elevator hotel, Ken Chase stated he did not have to explain why we were booked into such vs the quality hotels WITH ELEVATORS the other 2 buses were booked into!!! read more

Conservative Tours with, Ken Chase, over all was an excellent way to see Paris and visit the history that is the invasion of Normandy Ken's knowledge and commentary along the way was just great. The hotel stays were excellent with a full breakfast every day. His ability to deal with surprises like the National Cemetery being closed on our scheduled day causing a change in tour plans and when a restaurant was closed for a preplanned dinner, he quickly found a satisfactory solution. A couple of dinners fell short of expectations which is not unusual on any tour. The evening tour Bateau dinner on the Seine starting at the Effiel Tower is not to be missed! Ken's pre-arranged early entry to the Effiel Tower was also a real plus, but squeezing Sacre re Cleur and Versailles on the same day was exhausting. read more

Unfortunately, Conservative Tours Owner Ken Chase falsely advertises his tours as: "The Nation's Leader In Luxury, where each tour is conducted in first class and you're treated like family" because sixty-five recent travelers can attest there's nothing further from the truth regarding travel services he offers! For instance, the D-Day Normandy/Battle of the Bulge/Normandy/ParisTrip which he sells, naturally attracts interest from older aged patriots (Ex:"Over age 60 for the most part") & 78 & 95 yr old WWII Vets as well. Mr. Chase's pre-trip reassurances were made to all concerned that he'd accomodate those with any physical limitations which sadly he didn't follow-through at all during the entire ten day travel itinerary! It's mind boggling that this man, along with his two part time "helpers", were dismissive (to the point of rudeness) and totally uncommunicative regarding serious matters of importance to the whole travel group. Unsure whether this trip was Ken's first attempt at being the "tour leader" but frankly speaking, it quickly became obvious to every client on the tour that his lack of organizational skills and pompous attitude sure wasn't professional, nor appropiate towards anyone, let alone his "paying clients" on one of his tours. There was an obvious lack of compassion or caring whether access onto tour bus, sites visited, restaurants, etc which were all hand-selected by Ken Chase, would be suitable for the clients who'd been reassured and believed he'd made necessary arrangements. Due to his lack of organization and subsequent dismissive nature, there were many locations where those with limited mobility were left to fend for themselves. Worst of all is the fact that because Mr. Chase failed to reserve one of the hotel's many rooms with walk-in shower, the elderly Vet within our tour group fell, breaking his back and having to stay in Paris hospital which was heartbreaking to all his fellow travelers on the tour. Zero assistance was provided for wheelchair, electric scooter, or other mobility equipment being stowed on or off tour bus, which also required dangerous flight of stairs at every stop. It was the kindness of the whole travel group, who bonded together to help each other because Ken Chase planned for, nor did nothing to assist those needing assistance...Just lucky there weren't more who became injured due to choice of dinner locations (4 or the 5 meals served had stairways to heaven!) and his lack of safety concerns (he would've left guests behind many times if not for the group speaking up for each other!) so in conclusion, Ken Chase's failure to be truthful about his Tours ability to ensure proper arrangements, organization and lack of caring resulted-in unsafe conditions to group travelers so most certainly wouldn't recommend any Conservative Tours under his direction! read more

Went on Dreaming Italian tour. Would not recommend. The itinerary promised spectacular food and accommodations. The accommodations were as promised, but the food not so much. What was touted as the best restaurants were so so. I never had a meal (besides the breakfast) that was good and filling until the last night at a fisherman's house in Stresa. Or maybe that meal was so good because I was starving and it was the night before the flight home! Thank goodness for the breakfast fare. The tour is over populated and too rushed. We got separated from our group on the first outing and it kind of tainted the rest of the trip. Very disorganized I would say. I won't use this tour company again. read more

I recently joined a tour event to Germany with Conservative Tours on the advice of a girlfriend who had already been on one tour event to the D Day Beaches with Conservative Tours. Overall it was a tour with no wasted time because every day was full (mostly) of escorted visits. Our tour leader, Lilian, was wonderful. Aside from her knowledge she was always pleasant and clearly made an effort to accommodate day in and day out. If you only want to see beautiful Bavaria then this is not your tour. Half the tour (I estimate) focused on learning about the Nazi era. Dachau, The Eagle's Nest, and the courtroom for the Nuremburg Trials were all part of this tour. My girlfriend had agreed to take this second tour because the President of Conservative Tours agreed to join the tour and do historical (World War Two) commentary as well as European current events commentary. He allowed Lilian to run the tour but when he took the microphone suffice it to say everyone was keen to listen. Even without this "added value" item the tour was very enjoyable but the World War Two historical elements have to be something you intend to visit while in Germany otherwise it's not for you. But if you love history my girlfriend was right: nobody does World War Two in Europe like Conservative Tours. read more

My husband, Greg, and I heard about Conservative Tours from a local radio talk show and it was highly recommended. We went on a tour of Paris and the D-Day beaches in August of 2014 and we were not disappointed. Our tour group was smaller than what Ken said he normally has and I was originally worried about whether or not I would like the other people. I shouldn't have worried - by the second day we all felt like longtime friends. The fact that we all had the same views of the world and life by being conservatives helped! Ken was great - from the first time I spoke to him on the phone he put me at ease and answered all of my questions. He was a great tour guide and took the time to learn about us and all of our little idiosyncrasies such as one of the other tourists liking ice in all his drinks (which is not common in France). Ken remembered to always request ice for Jack at all of our meals. While some parts of the tour seemed too short we got a taste of everything we wanted to see and now we know what we would like to return to see at a more leisurely rate. Greg and I would like to return some day and spend a whole week in Normandy and when we finally retire that is what we will do. read more

I wanted to do Paris and Normandy on my own. I am extremely happy that someone suggested Conservative tours. I have been to Paris several times before; however the sights, dinners and attractions pointed out by Ken were beyond my expectations. They were excellent. I am a WW ll history buff and several people on our tour were also. Ken pointed out many sights and recounted the history involved. He is very knowledgeable and we all learned many new things. The tour was extremely well run, and he went well beyond the call of duty to fulfill our requests. The cost of the tour was very reasonable for all the activities , side trips, and dinners involved. My first and last time traveling with conservative tours. First upon my arrival in Rome , inspite of sending a picture of my self, and placing two large orange tags on my suitcases as as a way to be identified by Conservative Tours, they failed to pick me up at the airport. I was terrified and felt lost in a strange land and not being able to speak the language made matters worst. Ken failed to give proper instructions failing to provide Italy's telephone codes making it impossible for me to make contact with him. I was terrified , alone at the airport feeling lost for 2 hours! To make it worst once I finally made contact with Ken he blamed me, no apology was offered. I felt that they were careless, and insensitive with other group travelers who walked with canes, due to age and disabilities. The tour was fast paced, required a lot of walking and the group size was too large to include individuales with disabilities. Although the events were good sadly, due to Ken's carelessness, and insensitivity I have no intention of ever traveling with conservative tours again. I would not recommend conservative tours. I assure you, you could do better with another more organized tour group. read more

If only I had read the other yelp reviews before I booked the D-Day anniversary trip with Conservative Tours, I might have asked even more questions than I did. As it was, I had a wonderful time with the other people on the tour and cannot say I'm sorry I went. However, that was due to who they were and where we were and had little to do with Ken Chase. Conservative Tours is a brilliant marketing strategy, but implementation leaves much to be desired. Mr. Chase was nowhere to be found at the airport after we all collected our luggage and cleared customs upon our arrival. After huddling together to brainstorm our options to get to the hotel, he finally appeared seeming irritated and proclaiming that he had never had a group clear customs so quickly. Unfortunately, that was an indication of things to come. The itinerary was very inefficient. We spent so much time going back and forth from the hotel that we had very little time to see the museums or shop. The locations were beautiful and interesting, but rather than using time on the beautiful tour bus to share information about what we were seeing along the way and what we would experience upon arrival, that was done hastily upon arrival when we were all summoned to gather around the tour guide much the way a teacher would speak to small children. Insulting. Then, Mr. Chase would admonish us all to "stay together" as he bolted way ahead of us. I found the food in all of his "fabulous" restaurants mediocre and the TripAdvisor reviews I checked while we were there largely concurred with my assessment. Even though we had made our meal selections in advance (limited items), there seemed to be no system in place on the part of the tour guide communicating with the restaurant to discreetly match each guest with his or her meal. The result was Ken Chase standing in dining room of each restaurant for the dinners that were included, calling out, "Who had ....?" or what the restaurant business refers to as auctioning food which professional waiters are forbidden to do.The continental breakfast buffets in the hotels were the best meal of the day in most cases followed by lunches on our own. Repeated inquiries about a famous WW I attraction were ignored. Worst of all, one of our tour members with a physical disability was denigrated, humiliated and ignored on a regular basis throughout the tour. On our Luxembourg and Belgium excursion, we were privileged to have a truly professional tour guide named Michael. He treated our disabled traveler (and all of us) with patience, kindness and respect as he shared his amazing depth of knowledge about WWII, encouraging and answering questions completely while we traveled to each attraction. So refreshing after what we witnessed throughout the rest of the trip! What does it tell you when the best day of the trip was the one day without exposure to Ken Chase? Overall, while I believe the concept of Conservative Tours is a great, the owner seems to hold an exaggerated idea of his own importance. There were so many logistical errors. Ken Chase seemed entirely disinterested in the preferences or opinions of the individuals in his tour group. He failed to disseminate even basic information available at the hotels' concierge desks. After spending nine days with him, my sense was that we were there to finance his travel. This was a classic case of over-promising and under-delivering. I wish I could recommend this company, but I cannot do so for the reasons stated here and many more. read more

I almost never write a review, much less post one to social media.  But now, I will make an exception as I want to share my thoughts about a wonderful travel company named Conservative Tours.  My wife and I have taken two tours with them, both hosted by its president Ken Chase.  Once to France in 2012 and then to Italy in 2013. For our trip to France, we took the D-Day tour.  This tour tied together many of the historical places we have long heard about and seen in movies.  But there is nothing like seeing them in person. The detailed narrative and background information provided by Ken and his local guide (for the Battle of the Bulge) significantly enhanced our visual experience.  From the infinite coastline of the Normandy beaches, to the steep cliffs of Pointe du Hoc, to the meticulously groomed American cemeteries, each site has made a lasting impression on me.  And what can you not love about the city of Paris? For Italy, we took the Grand Event.  Here we visited the well known cultural attractions in the cities of Rome, Florence and Venice. We traveled to the impressive, but somber ruins of Pompeii. We wound our way up to a castle high in the hills of Tuscany where we created our own dinner and enjoyed fine wine. The weather was perfect for our day in the colorful town of Cinque Terre on the Mediterranean.  And in every case, the local guides who accompanied us were first class. Each tour was planned in meticulous detail, flawlessly executed and emphasized the historical significance of every site we visited.  Personal attention was provided to any who required a little extra assistance. Ken always tried to look out for our best interests. And in the end, I came away with the distinct feeling that Ken considers his fellow travelers as good friends, not just customers. It seems like our small circle of conservative friends keeps growing with each tour. Later this year, a number of us will be reuniting as Ken hosts us on a gastronomical tour to France. My wife and I took the D-Day Beaches and Paris tour with Ken and Conservative Tours in 2012 and we were very pleased with our trip. Ken did an outstanding job from start to finish and provided wonderful historical insights, and enthusiasm and energy, which we appreciated and respected. Ken introduced us to great cuisine and culture throughout our trip. We fully enjoyed the history and sights of Paris, the many museums, Reims, Versailles, Champagnge, Bastogne and The Ardennes, and most important to me, the D-Day Beaches. Although I had been to Italy before, my wife had not been there. The first trip that I took was wonderful in that we saw many things like museums cathedrals and Duomo's, but the trip with conservative tours was even more special. With the conservative tours trip we did more than that in that we saw the people doing their work. We saw cheese being made in Parma, lace being made in Burano and we saw Murano glass being blown and so much more. The accommodations were wonderful, the food was excellent and the company was unsurpassed. We enjoyed the trip to Italy so much that we are scheduling a second trip with conservative tours this year. I can only speak for the French tour covering the D-Day beaches, The Battle of the Bulge and Paris, I have traveled all over the world in 1st class to last class accommodations, Conservative Tours was very far from luxurious. The entire tour from the airport meet @ CDG to the last days bus trip to CDG for departure bordered on catastrophe. It appeared that Ken Chase was more concerned with his profit margin then he was in the comfort of his guests. From sitting in the hotel lobby for over 6 hours waiting for a room, and missing a city tour scheduled for 3:45 PM, which should have been scheduled to depart from the airport in the morning with a separate vehicle delivering the luggage to the hotel to be placed in our rooms awaiting our arrival. That would have been considered luxury. The busses used were cramped and close to dangerous for the elderly (north of 65, as Ken described the average age prior to signing), the Normandy portion had an especially dangerous bus with semi-spiral very narrow front entrance and extremely narrow rear entrance. Needless to say, all of the bus trips were extremely uncomfortable to say the least. Ken would point out "scenic" sites along the way (@ travel speeds) on the left, right or front of the bus, those sites were viewable by only a hand full of the passengers, and many were plaques or memorials such as one erected by Tom Hanks memorializing his Band of Bros HBO special, sorry did not travel to Normandy to see Tom Hanks pat himself on the back. When we did arrive at a memorable site such as Omaha Beach, we were admonished NOT to go onto the beach because we were on a schedule. Those travelers in wheelchairs or scooters had to mostly fend for themselves with minimal instructions as to location of ramps or elevators and subsequent rendezvous points. None of the restaurants we used could be considered gourmet and most were too small for a comfortable dining experience by our group. We were issued a pre order menu and had to select our food weeks ahead of time (ostensibly to ease our experience at the restaurant), let me tell you it had the opposite effect. Food would come out of the kitchen by category, i.e., chicken, steak, etc, with each delivery we had to raise our hands if that was our selection, the end results were that some at the table had no food while others were forced to eat, least the food got cold, not conducive to a pleasant eating experience. Ken maintained a controlling attitude throughout the trip, and when needed was not available. It seemed that our comfort was not the 1st thing on Ken's agenda, the Euro was. The only positive thing was the local guide we had in Bastogne, Mike, he was great. This only highlighted the fact that NO local tour guides or in fact no Conservative Tour employee or guide were used by Conservative Tours on ANY PORTION of the trip, when Ken attempted to fill that role it was lacking, he did not have the proper aides available so that much of what he said was not heard. Suffice it to say that I would not recommend Conservative Tours for any travel, the areas we visited are worth the trip but there are other companies that can provide a truly luxurious service. read more

I didn't get the chance to sign up for one of Ken Chase's trips to Italy. I had called him to ask some questions and the first thing I got when I said hello was "who's this". I asked who I was speaking to and he again said "who's this" very rudely I might add. Before I could say another word he said "what company are you with?". I stated I wasn't with a company I was a person needing to ask some questions about one of your tri, thats right tri. I never even got to finish the word trip and he rudely hung up on me. As I foolishly called back it suddenly went to voicemail. Needless to say I would never book a trip from a man as rude as Ken Chase. Our first tour with Conservative Tours was to Italy - Florence, Venice, Rome, & we had never traveled with a tour group so my husband & I were skeptical. I knew if we didn't take this tour we would be waiting another 15 years to do it. I must say from the time we stepped off the plane in Rome to the time we left was some of the highlights of both our lives. It's not that we haven't traveled before we just hadn't gone w/a tour group. The hotels were magnificent, especially the one in Florence that had such a rich history itself. We like that we didn't have to drag our luggage around but just leave it outside our hotel room & it was whisked off to the next city. Our tours guides were the best; we waited in NO lines. We had great meals with the group & there was enough time to explore by ourselves & taste the foods anywhere we wanted. Our next trip (2015) was four years after our Italy trip. It was to Paris, Normandy Beach, for the D-Day Celebration. It too was a lovely experience. It was an educational & very emotional experience. On BOTH tours we met with wonderful people, both young & older & even had a reunion with many of them after the tours. Ken is very knowledgeable about BOTH Italy & France, speaks the language & is just an all around fun guy. He knows the innards of the city so you will see so much more than if you went on your own. My husband & I highly recommend Conservative Tours. We can't say enough good things about our experiences. I wanted to travel to Vietnam in March w/Ken but since we are having our kitchen remodeled I will have to wait until the next trip. My Father served in Vietnam twice & so I feel compelled to visit & perhaps see some of the landscape he saw. read more

My wife and I have gone with Conservative Tours on 2 trips. The first on the Grand Tour of Italy which included Rome, Florence and Venice. The 2nd was to Paris and Normandy. Both were fantastic! When there were unexpected problems, Ken and his staff made changes seamlessly with little delay. The trips were organized so that you see much more than if you tried to do it alone. Admission into sites like the Colesseum, the Vatican and the Eiffel Tower, to name a few were front of the line fast. Food was great everywhere we were taken. The tour guides, including Ken were entertaining and informative. Maybe we got lucky in our 2 tours, but we never had any of the problems that some have written. I have enthusiastically recommended Conservative Tours to all my family and friends. read more

From my "surprise" phone call last Christmas Eve from Ken telling me I was going to Paris and the D-Day beaches to the end of the trip, I can truthfully say that we had a wonderful experience. We felt that the trip was handled in an efficient and professional manner. We never once felt uncomfortable anywhere we went, and Ken was always with us on all of our excursions to interpret and answer questions that we had. The hotel accommodations were first class and the buses we rode on each day looked new and the bus drivers were excellent also. The menu selection was a little overwhelming in that we had to order ahead of time, but in the end, it was to our advantage. We are both very picky eaters and all of the food that we ate was very good and our wait times were minimal. It would have been nice to have been able to change our minds if we realized that what we had chosen would not be what we would really want. However, having said that, I know that too many "changing minds" could really mess up the entire plan. We had a great group of people travelling together from many different areas of the United States and everyone seemed to get along great and take care of each other. Ken was very aware of any special needs that any one of us had and did everything he could to make arrangements to have those needs met. The only thing we would have liked to change would have been to add one more day to the trip to have a free day. We could have taken one of the day trip days to make our own free day, but we didn't want to miss out on any of the planned trips. THEY WERE ALL WORTH IT!! My husband was in the 82nd Airborne, so the D-Day beach and Battle of the Bulge trips were the highlights of his trip. We were able to go onto the beaches and the cemeteries and monuments with plenty of time to visit each one. The weather was really the only thing that caused us, personally, to not be able to do something we wanted to do - and not even Ken can control that. This was our first trip to Europe and we have gushed about it to our friends ever since we returned. We try to be flexible with our expectations, especially when we are doing something like this trip, which is out of our typical base of knowledge, but we would not hesitate to take another trip with Ken. In April 2015 we had an opportunity to see Italy with Conservative Tours. It was an awesome trip. We stayed in Rome, Florence, and Venice. Everyday was action packed with sightseeing and great food and wine. We had a different local tour guide everyday who took us to all the best sights. We never waited in line for anything. Even the crowded museums, we went straight to the head of the line. The Vatican, Colluseum, Pompeii were incredible. Because our group was small, we were able to do a few more things, like visit the catacombs. The hotel in Florence was beautiful. Ken Chase was an attentive tour guide. He was very accommodating, especially when one of our group had to go to the hospital for a sinus infection. Making our own dinner at a castle in Tuscany was one of my favorite days. My next favorite was the boat ride on the Mediterranean going up the coast to Cinque Terra, then stopping and having the best seafood lunch right on the coast. I definitely would travel with Conservative Tours again. read more
