Repair appointment for air conditioning system given for " between 12:00 an 5:00 PM". The technician, Jay, called at 5:15 to say he was on the way. Jay found the problem within 20 minutes of starting work. Part replaced and testing out roughly 1/2 hour later. Worked fine. Cost was less than $200 with parts and labor. I will never use this company again. My oven went out on a Sunday. Because I use our oven a lot, and there was a gas smell every time I turned my oven on (wasn't heating and strange gas smell=need service now) and went away when I turned it off, I called BGE Home because the advertised 24 hour emergency service. I was told 24 hour service meant someone would answer the phone 24 hours but no one would be dispatched because they didn't work nights and weekends. Was told the dispatch fee was $50. Finally got someone out the next Tuesday. He diagnosed the problem as a bad ignition switch but didn't have the part. It was on backorder and they would call when it was in. If I decided to try someone else the diagnostic fee was $120. When asked the difference in quotes, I was told the lower price was for those on contract. 3 weeks after the initial visit, I still had not received a call to schedule the repair, so I called them. The part has been in for a couple of weeks, I was supposed to call them (I guess I was supposed to automatically know it had come in). I set up an appointment for today, received a confirmation call yesterday, with a time frame of between 7:30 and noon. At noon, no repair person. Called BGE Home only to be told they can't find my order request. They finally found it, under the name of the original owner, who moved 10 years ago. The repairman was 45 minutes outside of his show window. The only read they get 2 stars is because the repairman was quick and efficient, once he got here. Bad customer service, advertising 24 hour service, when it's actually just a 24 hour phone service, not calling me when the part arrived, having my work order under the wrong name and quoting the wrong price all adds up to I will find another appliance repair place and won't recommend BGE Home to anyone. read more

BGE Home is always looking for new warranty customers but they can't take care of the ones they have. We've been with them here in Annapolis for over 30 yrs. but that makes no difference. I called (AMY) at BGE Home for warranty service on our HVAC outside A-C unit on May 5th 2018 and got a service date of Aug 15, 2018. That's 105 days (totally unacceptable). I will say all the Techs that have been in our home have been very professional, knowledgable, on-time and friendly. The service reps have been likewise, its not there fault they don't have enough service techs. I had an issue with my dishwasher not draining and my home warranty company contacted BGE to come diagnose and fix the issue. The service person first called and left a long and rambling message trying to figure out if he had time to make it to us on the day we were expecting him, we called back to confirm the appointment and never heard back until he showed up on our doorstep at 5PM. Knowing that our issue was the dishwasher not draining, he was pretty surprised to see water in the bottom of our dishwasher and asked how we planned to remove the water, for someone in this line of work I would assume they would have the tools for that. Once we used all of our towels to soak up the undrained dishwasher water he then got to "work" on fixing our machine. He kept looking at the dishwasher like had never seen one before and said "well if I had this tool I could try that" and "if I had a straightened coat hanger I could poke around" you know the things you want your repairman to say while they are working on things. He replaced something (but never told us what) and but the dishwasher still didn't drain. He said he would have to go and do "research" but we never heard back from him. Almost a month later we called our home warranty company and they said they had not heard anything either and reached out to BGE only to find out that they decided the problem was the drain pump had been damaged by food and debris and was not going to be covered. Fine. I called another local repair shop and the dispatcher on the phone told me to check the knock out plug on the disposal, and what do you know? the plug was blocking the dishwasher from draining. Someone over the phone knew to check that, but a "trained professional" did not? You can do much better than BGE in the Frederick area, I will request that that my home warranty company not use them for us in the future, and reconsider their contract for using them in general read more

My parent's furnace stopped working and originally they said they had to wait about 5 days to get service, but when I told them my folks were elderly and really needed the heat back on sooner for medical reasons, they responded very quickly. A serviceman was in their house the next day, Friday, and then they came back on Saturday to finish the work. I was very impressed. They also diagnosed the problem correctly with just a part that was broken, instead of trying to have them spend more money for no reason. They fixed it quickly and were very friendly. read more

Worst Experience I Have Ever Had With A Company. My furnace stopped working. BGE Home came out for literally 15 minutes and told me they needed to order three parts to get the furnace running enough so they could figure out what was wrong. Almost a week later, the parts were still not in. They kept giving me excuse after excuse and telling me that I was a priority and that they would call as soon as the parts were in - they never did. I finally called another HVAC company. They came out and within one hour my furnace was up and running. All it needed was a new motor which they had in the truck. I called to cancel my BGE service and they charged me $104 for coming out and ordering parts that never came!! Unbelievably BAD service BGE Home. The BGE home energy audit is a scam. We spent 3 hours with a contractor who walked around our house and assured us we'd get a detailed written assessment of the places where we were losing energy. Three weeks later, a BGE salesman came over with a review that said we could save a lot of heat if BGE insulated our attic at a cost of 15K. When we pointed out that any idiot knows that hot air rises and that we were waiting for a report on our entire house, he said he'd contact the contractor about getting us one. They've never come through with the written energy audit so we certainly aren't going to take them up on their super-high bid to insulate our attic. What a rip off. read more

BGE HOME, Crooks, I had their service and I was paying monthly, and after I had tried on 3 occasions to get them to put the bill, on my HOME BGE bill, they for some reason could not get it done. I faxed in info, replied to emails they sent saying they need this that and the other. However still was unable to put the BGE home bill, on my BGE electric bill. Then when my heater was having issues. The came out to look at it and told me what the problem is, but my monthly payments does not REPAIR, or REPLACE - but they will give me a discounted rate?? I had to get a new unit. Which I purchased from somewhere else, because their discounted rate was still $3K more than I found THE SAME EXACT system for. So I called and cancelled the service, BUT they KEPT Billing me, and like 4 months later they are still billing me, and I figured well, WHEN do they cancel your service if you don't pay, since I have not paid the bill since I cancelled! I called them to ask why am I still getting a monthly bill, when I cancelled the service. They told me that the call was disconnected when I called, and the action was never completed. (I'M LIKE WHAT) SO you all billing me even though I cancelled, even though I did not pay. I'm like, Do you continue to have Car insurance if you do not pay, or home insurance if you do not pay, MOST PLACES will cancel you, if you do not pay - not BGE HOME, when you cancel with them they continue to BILL you then want to charge you, for a so called balance that was on the account when you cancelled. The carrier system that we installed was quoted at $3000 more by a competitor. Not only was BGE homes price better, but the install team that they sent was first rate. Our installation required that the compressor unit be installed on the roof of a three story condominium building. We live on the second floor which required an extensive modification to the condo above us in order to route the proper size copper pipe to the roof to feed Freon to the compressor. The previous company that installed the old system in this condo unit did not take into account the quarter inch size of the Copper tubing that was apparently installed when the unit was built in the late 70s. Modern heat pumps require at least a three eights inch copper tube in order to be in warranty and function properly. Our old unit had died after just seven years, probably due to improper use of the existing too small copper tube. The BGE team recognized the problem right away and advised us that the new unit would not be in warranty unless a proper size tube was installed. I started to see dollar signs, but was immediately assured that they would take care of all of the work to route the proper size tube along with a new thermostat control electrical wire for no additional cost. They also offered to install a three eights inch copper tube for the owner of the unit above us for the inconvenience of going through their unit. The work was done on time and very professionally. The lead technician for BGE home took it upon himself to do the work personally to ensure the least amount of inconvenience for us and our upstairs neighbor. From start to finish this was a 100% professional, competent and polite installation. I most strongly recommend BGE home for a heat pump installation. read more

This afternoon our heat quit, we called the service number and were told we have to wait unit Tuesday, December 26th for a service tech. I double checked that we had a service contract and asked if the contract covers 24/7, answer yes but still no tech until the 26th. I asked why, there was no availability was the answer by the customer service rep. Everyone went home for the holiday! I had a brand new furnace and hot water heater installed this past April by BG&E home. The entire experience was absolutely great! Larry, the salesman/estimater was extremely knowledgeable, accommodating , and courteous. He took his time with me and answered all questions in detail. Never did he hurry me through the process. After the initial visit, he came out and walked through the job with the crew forman. He informed me about what needed to be done, and the process involved, which allowed me to have complete confidence in BGE HOME. Larry knows his business very WELL!!! The crew who actually did the installation all were top professionals! All were courteous and cleaned up completely when the job was done. Both the county inspector, and a home building contractor, even commented on the superiority of the job.... after completion of the job. Hearing this made me feel really good!! Now that its fall and I've had a need to turn the furnace on, the house heats better than ever. The hot water is also better than ever as well. BGE Home was not the contractor who gave me the lowest estimate, however when it comes to heating ( or roofing ) a house its best to go with a middle estimate. The price I paid was a fair price. After completion of the work, the value and confidence that I now have is priceless! The only improvement that BGE Home could use is; to send a out a customer satisfaction survey after completion of their work. Some sort of job completion follow up would be a great punctuation of the completed work. I am surprised BGE HOME did not do this. On 02/07/1 I was getting a loud screeching drilling noise from my furnace. Called next morning, to have a tech out--no problem-someone would be out in afternoon. (Excellent) A tech arrived and replaced one part-2hours later SAME issue. Tech says he will order parts eta 2/9-they have a local distributor. Well, 4-5 hours the part is smoking inside the furnace! Had to turn off furnace and house smells of smoke. (Bad, evry bad) 2/9 no callback..Called Cust service who said a supervisor would call back and was transferred to a manager, John Porter-who never called me back. I called two hours later, transferred to a supervisor who said she had no idea if and when parts are ordered..where do we stand in the chain?? I advised her I'd get the parts myself from their "distributor". She also said I should go buy some heaters..really? When I had an ac issue, BGE OFFERED ME window units until the job was done! Also, when my furnace broke, it took them 5 days to fix it and they were never able to schedule me in a reasonable amount of time. The serviceman showed up, told me I needed a new one and called the order in. The fellow on the line said they had the water heater but could not install until Monday The whole point of getting them out there on Saturday is that they have the water heater in stock and can install the same day. I am very disappointed with BGE Home's sloppy service and poor customer service. On April 7th I had BGE Home perform their yearly inspection that was preformed by two men. The one gentleman did all the work and the other was supposedly checking him. However, he kept trying to get me to sign up for their service contract. My heat pump was only 2.5 years, so I figured it was too soon. Plus, the technicians assured me that everything was fine. June 29th, on one of the warmest days of the year, the A/C stopped blowing cold air. Of course BGE Home couldn't come out any time soon. I called another local company and he came out the next day. He found that the bolts for the refrigerant were loose, and deduced that the refrigerant leaked out when we put the heat on during a cold day in May. Seven pounds of refrigerant were released since then and I was out $530 to get our A/C working again. I tried to contact BGE Home directly the following week, but they didn't respond. read more

I have become increasingly frustrated with the poor turn-a-round time. God help you if you need a plumber. I am paying $73.50 for a whole house contract with BGE Home yet now have to wait three weeks to get a plumber? This makes absolutely no sense. I have had several floods from my washer. The first time I placed a service call, they sent an appliance tech., although I specifically asked for a plumber. All the tech. did was pour liquid plumber down the drain line. I could have done that (and I waited over two weeks for that tech. to come). I now have to wait just under three weeks for BGE Home to send a plumber. I could have saved all the money on the service contract, used it to pay for a plumber and already had the problem fixed instead of having to make expensive visits to a laundromat. Avoid. The schedulers were polite when answering the phone but they repeatedly reported erroneous information when they should have known better. For example, knowing that my system was no longer under warranty when asked. They said it was. The technician when he arrived said,"Nope". The customer service was terrible in that THEY chose the scheduling window which was already an unreasonably long SEVEN HOUR window and could not even stay within that. They arrived EIGHT hours later. They tried to get me to agree to reschedule a four hour window for the next day. No apology. I had a new furnace and AC installed by BGE home. Essentially they abandoned the 120 volt power feed to the old furnace. They ran a new line for the new furnace, but never reattached the remaining electrical function from the furnace on. I had to have an electrician trace garage lights to find the problem which was caused by BGE home. The costs for repairs was over $200.00. Also, I had a gas leak behind the furnace AFTER the furnace was installed and they tried to tell me that they did not do it. This leak was not present prior to the installation of the new furnace. Sloppy work as far as I'm concerned. I had to have them come back twice; once for the thermostat and once for the dehumidifier not working. I called BGE Home Service for my A/C system. The technician came out in June, pretended to put a meter on my unit and immediately said it was leaking freon. He said the coil must be cracked but he could not see where.He said for warranty purposes it would be best to replace the unit. He said my unit was a 2006 unit and he said we got our use out of it. Interesting, my unit was installed in 2016 he misread the year. It has been used for 3 seasons. The meter he used on my unit was left behind. Again very interesting I had another technician from another company look at the meter and he laughed and said it does not register anything. It beeps when you turn it on but it is not a working meter!!! I have attempted to call BGE Home multiple times but only got the recording each time and held for over 19 minutes before hanging up. I have paid this company monthly for service in the event I have a problem with my covered units. The pricing is not cheap. After 16 years of service, they will not make you a priority the way they advertise. Service call appointments can take a week or more. They give you no window time of service calls like most reasonable companies. Usually a 2 or 4 hour window. We have been home over 8 hours with at least 10 calls and no one will help in customer service. They just say the technician does his own schedule and can come as late as midnight. So if you want to be waiting till midnight to get heat/air, water pump or other covered appliances serviced after waiting a week for an appointment, then consider this company! Very unprofessional customer service. Techs are lazy and don't care. Will not receive the Smart service benefits they promise. Managers and phone staff lie and you will wait all day with no response or show. Spend your money elsewhere on a reliable service contract. read more

I purchased a water heater over the phone on a Friday and set up installation on Sat. When the technicians arrived they told me they couldn't install the water heater in our home because the cellular core pipes used in 2007 when the house was built was out of code. They then went on to suggest that they would have to tear out the wall/ceiling in my basement powder room and the ceiling on one side of my basement that includes recessed lighting in order to run new pipes that were in code. Needless to say that my time was wasted and I cancelled the installation. When I called the office the following Monday to get my refund of $2,900, they said it was processed. I checked my account all week and my refund was it there. Meanwhile I had to pay another company to install the water heater and now we're out twice the money. It took several calls and a week and a half to get my refund processed because it apparently wasn't done. I thought I was dealing with a professional company and was highly inconvenienced with no not water heater and having to fight for a refund. I won't be using this company ever again. read more

What a total disappointment when I had a very expensive hot water heater installed on 10/16/19 ($2,700.00). The technicians were very nice and knowledgeable but they clearly did not treat my home like it was theirs. When they left I had damage to four areas of my residence and that is simply not acceptable. I was already one day late for a trip so I had to get moving without making an issue of things. None of the damage was significant but you can clearly see the damage and it all occurred because the technicians simply did not exercise the caution they should have while removing and replacing the hot water heater. Ultimately, their carelessness resulted in damage to the floor I recently installed in my laundry room, a small area of finished/painted drywall, dents in the aluminum wrap around the sill area of my French doors (where they used a hand cart to roll the old hot water heater outside) and damage to an area on my deck. The tech came out stated they would place an emergency order to quote a resolution for the repair. 2-3 weeks later got a call back asking if they still needed to come out to quote the repair. We have a Smart Service Contract, a feature of which is "Priority Service." We believed in fixed price, billed monthly, maintenance agreements because we thought it would help a business maintain sufficient service staff. However, when I placed an Emergency call today about 1 PM,to service broken central A/C unit, the best priority service that BGE Home could provide was tomorrow after 12:00 Noon, thus a minimum of 24 hours, possibly more. The repair personnel are great, but the company needs to staff up so they can provide authentic "emergency" service--faster than 24plus hours. read more

Called myself to have the operator tell me the tech might be able to get to me in an hour and a half. Totally unacceptable. Was given a window and now they want me to wait an additional 1.5 hours. I would never use or recommend BGE Home to anyone. I am in the residential real estate industry and come into contact with lots of home buyers and seller. When I call a company that gives 3 different license numbers for Plumber/Boiler experts I expect someone who knows both and can fix since you can't have a boiler without plumbing. That's not what I got. I got to take off work 2 days because the first person they sent could only do boiler but not plumbing work. I was still charged for this visit. I was also told by the first person who couldn't fix the problem that I'd get priority treatment for the next person. I don't consider a 5 day wait when I have no heat to be priority. After complaining they magically could send someone the next day. I waited all day. I called to see if I could get some sort of estimate on arrival and was told the dispatcher said he was on his way. After an hour of no show I called back and was told that he was still enroute. A few minutes later the tech called and sai he was just heading to us. I don't know about you bjut I am not a fan of a company that lies. I called and asked to speak to a supervisor and was told that no one was avaialable because it was after 4 PM. Again magic occured when at 5:30 the supervisor called the tech and told him to take $100 off the bill. Considering I missed 2 days of work and they should have sent a competent boiler tech the first day it was basically paying the full amount anyway. If I could give zero stars, I would. I called to have the hook-up for my gas dryer repaired. They scheduled me from 12-4. I took off work early to be home in order to make the appointment. Someone called around 1:30 to tell me that the technician was stuck on a call and wouldn't be able to come out so could I reschedule for tomorrow (Saturday). Um, no, I can't. I took off of work to be home, I don't care how long it takes, someone should show up that day, I don't care if it's late. It is not ok for a business to just reserve your time and then not follow through. This has not put a good taste in my mouth about BGE Home (it's my first experience with them) and I will never use their services again. I called customer service to inquire about the situation and they told me that the dispatcher who called told me that "he called to say he knew it would be late when the guy showed up so he didn't want me waiting." I don't know how many people have BGE home services and yet there are no feedbacks on YELP. On and off I have been a customer of BGE home services for more than 10 yrs on 2 different homes. I think it is a GOOD VALUE insurance to have for your home. Why? BGE home has different packages that you can buy: whole house (Heat pumps plus all the appliances) or home comfort (less appliance). As I have 2 heat pumps, and hot water boiler, and all my apppliances are new with 5yrs extend warranty, I only need the house comfort package which is 22/month plus18 for the 2nd heat pump. The package covers at minimum one inspection on your units. Otherwise, if you have any breakdown, all the services calls are covered with parts to be replaced. This year, alone, I have called them 4 times, 2 for my blowers, 1 for my heat element on my water boiler and 1 for my heat pump reversing valves. The service is good, and as a smart service customer, your call has priority. So far, all the people that I have recommended to buy this warranty, have no complaints. The only thing that I want to warn, is you need to read and understand WHICH PARTS ARE CONSIDERED AS COVERED PARTS as NOT EVERY PARTS ARE REPLACED FREE OF CHARGE. read more

I made an appointment for an estimate on a/c unit replacement, then I got called into work so I called the day before to cancel since I would not be home... I called told 1st girl that I needed to cancel, she confirmed my name and address then said " that's not this department let me transfer you"... Then I waited a few mins until the recording said the operator is not available and the mailbox is full- then got hung up on- then I call back and tell the next girls who answered that I need to cancel the estimate for 6pm on Tuesday- she confirmed my name and address.... The said she had go transfer me to another department... I told her very sternly- "this is my second time calling- if I get disconnected, I will not be calling back a third time". She replied with attitude, okay! And then transferred my call which sent me to a guy who answered- I told him I needed to cancel, he had trouble finding my scheduled estimate... -_- so I told him the people saw my name and address that I spoke to before- and now you can't find my appointment????!!!! I'm thinking WTF?! So I told him- all I want to do is be courteous enough to cancel so that I do not waste the technician's time driving here- so he FINALLY found my appointment and said "would you like to reschedule?" I laughed at him and said I sure DON'T! He asked if there was something wrong... Depending on your luck, the service contract may or may not be a good value. I just paid for replacement of the heat exchanges in my furnace. The part was covered under warranty, but the labor charge was over $1,000. I found out that heat ex-changers are not covered under the service contract. And I've been paying monthly for over five years. You better read the fine print on these service contracts. Mine is getting cancelled. read more

My a/c went out on June 1 and BGE Home's sales rep is too busy to come by my house until June 14, at which time I will have to take time off work to accommodate him because he does not work on weekends. He has already told me the replacement unit will cost at least $6,000 and won't be installed until the first week of July. I was under the impression it takes so long because BGE has the monopoly on a/c replacements in this area, so the sales rep was quite comfortable letting me wait for whenever he wanted to fit me into his schedule. On a chance meeting with a stranger last week, I was given the name of another contractor that I called on Friday after talking with the BGE rep. This guy did not waste any time coming out to my house to give me an estimate. He showed up yesterday, which was a Sunday, gave me an estimate of $3,400 and stated the work will be done this Saturday June 15. I am very excited not to have to wait until the first week of July and save $2,600 in the process. read more

They've done good work for us in past. But this last experience we had is making me consider dropping my service plans. We had an electrical problem that we thought was HVAC because our furnace went out. BGE HVAC guy caught to his credit. Gave us an appt a 5 days out for electrician. We have no heat, but we had space heaters so OK- not happy but OK. Then I looked at problem on line- it was serious fire risk. I call BGE Home back-- no don't worry! We'll make it out in 4 days though. Called Tim Kyle Electric- over phone from description stated it was line problem and dangerous, call BGE Emergency. I did- squirrels ate our neutral wire at pole. So - that's all fixed. So I made appt for today to fix furnace. I called to check this AM- oh sir that's next Tuesday! I said no I changed that and they told me they set it today. She says - oh! We'll send someone out this afternoon. I then call back think I missed a call- I was told you are not booked today- you are on tomorrow!!! F!!!!! U!!!! Really???? Waiting for manager to call me back... no repair today, canceling my contracts. OK- I complained forcefully - tech is now at house!! One more star!!! Still frustrated over process but at least resolved! read more

We got the whole home coverage this year and our experience has been excellent. When we call to make an appointment, the person is courteous and polite. They have available spots the same day. If not, definitely within the week. The people who come out to make repairs are polite, punctual, and give good advice about how to keep the appliances running. We LOVE this company and it's service and would recommend it to everyone. read more
