I had an oil odor in my house and at least 3 different HVAC people had taken a look over the past few years. Barry from Powell & Turner stepped outside and looked at the flue and noticed the bottom cap was missing. He then proceeded to do an incredibly thorough examination of the oil furnace and identified a part that will need to be replaced in the future. He explained everything that he was doing and was patient with our questions. I feel confident that my furnace is in proper working order ... something I haven't felt in the past few years. Update 6/19/18 Yesterday the upstairs couldn't bring the temp down to set temp. Set to 74 but only hitting 78. Cool air was blowing but not enough. I called this morning and got on the schedule for 6/22. FWIW they provided me a one year "No Frustration Guarantee" with my new systems which states they will pay $250 if an issue is not resolved in 24 hours. I had hoped guarantees like this meant they rarely had issues. I'll update this further after Friday. Update 6/20/18 P&T had a cancellation allowing them to come out the day after I called in. My issue was diagnosed to be crossed wire connection in the thermostat wiring. This was an existing condition unrelated to the HVAC replacement last month. I'm back to hoping all will be well for years to come. End Update I wanted to replace my 16 year old two zone hvac systems with more efficient units. I received quotes from several companies. Online research lead me to believe the installer was key while product manufacturers were less important. After a few weeks of comparing quotes I decided to go with P&T. They offered Amana products which I had learned were under a larger company Daikin along with Goodman. The Amana warranty looked better than other manufacturers. P&T included a long workmanship warranty and they've been in business since before I was born. A couple weeks later it was install day. They called to let me know they were on the way. Several trucks and men arrived to do the work. They were very pleasant and courteous. When in the house they wore shoe covers. The weather turned a bit and the attic got pretty hot. Shortly after we got a big downpour. Both of these factors slowed them down a bit. As evening came they told me the furnace chimney wouldn't be finished. Considering it was early summer I didn't mind but I had to wait two weeks for them to fit me in again. One of my existing thermostats was incompatible with the heat pump. This was an unexpected issue which was unfortunate since I had looked and found the proper wiring in place before the install. P&T provided a replacement thermostat which has worked out well. After the furnace chimney install I noticed they had not installed the screen at the end. I notified them by email and they came on the weekend to install it. I hope all will be well for years to come. read more

Awesome deal! Starting from Josh, the sales rep, to Jennifer, ops manager, and closing with the install team. My 17 yo HVAC conked out and Josh came that very evening, even though he was already on his way home from work. He understood my personal situation and worked an exceptionally affordable deal for me and got me scheduled. Then Jennifer realize the agreed upon unit was not available so she coordinated an even better unit for nearly the exact price. Then today, Myles, John, Devine and their team leader expertly and professionally installed my new system, explained the system features and got me set. In Short- They provide great service and at affordable price! I was skeptical at first because they have only two reviews which were great. My HVAC unit went out yesterday and I was desperate to find a company to come out to repair our unit. I called several 4+ stars rated (with lots of review) but they are all too busy and didn't have any availability or didn't service our areas. I called Powell & Turner and spoke to Brooke. She provided excellent service and said that technician can come in an hour. I was very surprised since we have been experiencing a heat wave but I am so glad that they were available. Barry, the technician, arrived in 58mins. I have never experience any service providers (plumbing, cable, electrician, etc) that actually arrives on time. Barry was very nice and explained that their price is fixed based on the price list which is very convenient. No worries about someone gouging you. After I explained to him what was my problem (blower works but no cold air), he said it is likely outside. He pinpoint to source of the problem within 5 mins and determined that my capacitor was bad by visually looking at the capacitor and then confirming it with a volt meter. He replaced it immediately and our home finally has cool air. After he replaced the capacitor, he went inside and did a complete inspection of the unit and even spent sometime explained what things were if I was interested in learning about my unit which I was very happy to hear and learn. He even put on shoes covers when he came into our home which I am sure my wife will appreciate when she hears about it. The only con is that there is a $99 come out fee which isn't waived even if you select their service. However, Brooke and Barry stated that they had a promotion in which it was reduce to $50 for first time customer which I was happy to hear. Even without the discount, I think the $99 is worth because Barry thoroughly inspected the condenser unit outside, the refrigerant level, and the unit inside. Most service companies just charge you a flat come out service without doing anything. In summary, I was skeptical at first with only two reviews but thank goodness I went with Powell & Turner. They are wonderful company with great and knowledgeable staff. I highly recommend using them. I even kept a flyer of the company on the side of my refrigerator for my winter maintenance service. If the owner is reading this review, I want to say that Barry is exceptionally knowledgeable in HVAC. He has great customer service and did a great job. We are very happy. read more

Absolutely ATROCIOUS service! I was granted a $49 new customer inspection price, which I was very grateful for, but everything went downhill from there. The technician who came out to inspect our unit had to keep calling a colleague for suggestions on troubleshooting. After first telling me that it was the compressor (he estimated $4,000 - 5,000 to repair), he then said it was only the fan and would cost $590. Hours later after installing that, he said we were back to square one and it was definitely the compressor. He assured me I would be getting a phone call early the next morning from the owner or himself to confirm whether the compressor was still under warranty. He explained there was a good chance it was since the unit is only 7 years old. I did not hear back from them as promised the next morning and called the office for an update later on. I was told the technician didn't come in until later and the case would be worked on then. I never got a call back all day. I called again the following morning and was told they had put together a quote and had e-mailed me, only the find out they didn't have my e-mail in the system so it never went through. The receptionist confirmed that it would definitely be in the thousands, but that I still had to wait because the e-mail had to be confirmed again before I could get the quote. Hours later and still nothing!! I was excited to use this company based on the reviews, but assure you they do not meet any standards of customer service and do not get back to you at, all as promised. read more

The good, bad and ugly. The good: Owner is very competent technically and drives his team to normally provide good service. The bad: despite good service, if the products they recommend don't last, then what good is the recommendation. It's odd that a 4-year-old system they put in new would need anything but annual maintenance. Buyer beware to make sure you know the ins and outs of the very limited warranty. For most systems, the labor is not included. The ugly. Their 5-year New System Comfort guarantee is worthless. If you aren't lining their pockets with the Gold maintenance plan, you're a second class citizen. Took three weeks for repairs. If it takes multiple trips because they got the wrong part, oh well, not their problem. Bottom line: Full of excuses, short on making things right for the long term. They look at you for the transaction, not the relationship. read more

It is an awful feeling to have your air conditioner go down in the middle of the night. I called Powell and Turner and Courtney was able to schedule me in for 12pm. About 5 minute later Courtney called back and said they had a 930 cancellation and we were able to get an even earlier appt. The appt took an hour. Just a quick word of thanks for P&T. Although I did not ultimately use this company for a HVAC replacement, I wanted to comment on their great customer service. I called for an estimate at 830 and Brian showed up as promised at 1030. After taking down the specs of the existing system he worked up a quote. The bottom line for me was the price. I'm replacing an old unit with a new one in a rental property I plan to sell in a few years. If I were in this house for the long haul I would have gone with P&T. I never felt as though Brian were trying to pressure or up sell me. He was professional and courteous, which is what is missing these days from businesses large and small. We have a maintenance plan with them and thus far the 2 times they have been to our house...Fall & Spring tune ups, they have been superb. They have called ahead of time, arrived on time and on this 2nd visit they called and asked if they could show up 30 minutes early!! They put on "booties" over their shoes to keep your floor clean. As well they went over the system and answered my questions. We have 2 systems and in 1 system it takes a $43 filter, and they even include that in the plan. Thus far we have been very impressed from everyone we have talked to at this company. They even called us this Spring to remind us of the Spring tune-up, as it is included in our plan. This company is a must use! This Memorial Day weekend was my second experience with them (two separate residences) and they continue to impress. They give you an actual time for service. Not some crazy window then take up half of your day because they're late and their labor estimate was unrealistic. If they're going to be even a few minutes late, they call. This is the only company I've ever had take my schedule into consideration (I work shift work). My technician, Trey, even made sure he knew what time I worked so he wouldn't be waking me up when he called to update me on the parts that had to be ordered (I have a Trane unit. They're great but they're picky). My out of pocket cost was given upfront and was spot on. No overages. No add ons. No annoying sales pitch. The professionalism of this company cannot be understated. From keeping my house clean from wet work boots to making sure he didn't scare my 10 week old puppy, Trey was a true professional. Even when calling to schedule, the sweet lady on the phone (I'm sorry I don't remember her name) was nothing but accommodating and empathetic. She made sure I had working AC as quickly as possible, calling me back to arrange to come sooner when they added a technician to an already busy weekend. Great company. Great people.
