last night neanderthal go to constillation room. if you think neanderthal go for to see stars, clothes but no cigar. neanderthal blast off to constrellatio room instead to see record relief show for orange counting hardcore legends FURY. they release album call Paramount and it is the most great. was tolled park in lot can fill up fast, so neanderthal find street to park on nearby. not tell you which street though or else no more parking spot there next time ha ha. staff is nice as can expect from venue. not see anyone be treat unfairly or anything, that always nice. when walk in to entrints, straight ahead is restroom. if go to right, then there is nice patio. And if go to left, then is where band play. restroom nice and clean. neanderthal make a pee then go to wash hand but no paper towel. but no worry, just wipe wet hand on crowd. ha ha just kid (about wiping hand on crowd) patio is nice. constipation room can get many hot, so it nice to have hopper tunity to go to outside and get a fresh air. inside where band play, kind of small/pack, but neanderthal like that. make show more intimid. sound is good. stage and setup is the perfect for to make stage dive. mirch is set up in here. also a bar. neanderthal walk into bar. bar tinder say, "what'll it be, pal?" neanderthal say, "give me moscow mule." then bar tinder give neanderthal mule and he take it home to raise as pet. name him Francis. make deep connect. become man best friend. they happy and also after. read more

Awesome Awesome Awesome Venue!! Room: Pretty freaking small so the performer-audience interaction is exquisite! But because of it's small size, there is a smaller occupancy limit so buy tickets early! Temp: VERY HOT! I recommend shorts and a tank! Sound: Very great projection. Lobby: Because the venue is small, so is the lobby. Which can work to your advantage depending on who you're seeing. (I went to see Intuition, Sol, Grieves and Budo.) Grieves was in the lobby by the merch table an hour before the show signing autographs and taking pictures with fans! And after the show all of the performers stayed in the lobby to chat with fans. Bar: I recommend bringing a good amount of cash if you plan on drinking (even if you want to drink water because they don't allow any outside food/drinks) because the drinks were pretty pricey. There is a bar right next to the stage and another smaller bar in the lobby. Security: Pretty strict but hey, that's their job right. **By the way there is NO RE-ENTRY what so ever once you're inside so MAKE SURE you have EVERYTHING you'll want with you when you get in!** Lighting: For photos it's really bad while the performers are signing/rapping/playing. Every picture I took while they were rapping is out of focus and has awful lighting. However when they were just talking to the audience, I guess the lights were turned down, so my photos came out great. (But if you're just there to listen to the music, then you won't even notice the difference!) Parking: FREE! and more importantly super easy to get in and out of before and after the show. (They close parking once the show starts though) All in all, as a music aficionado I loved this venue mainly because of how small it was. In my opinion when it comes to venues, the smaller the better because I always like being super close to the performer and vibing almost right along side them!! Have fun and be safe!! read more

It was way too f---ing hot in the area where I was watching the show. Even the band made a remark about it. I had to go outside in the smoke area to get "fresh" air multiple times. Band members were all pouring in sweat after just a couple songs. Parking was a rip off. Ten bucks. Greedy f--ks. The most annoying thing of all was there was a bathroom attendant in the mens room. OK, first of all, a bathroom attendant is a questionable job in ANY establishment. However, you usually find them in upscale places. This bathroom was nasty, low budget, etc and the attendant didn't do anything but stand there looking like a street thug. All the urinals were filled with piss. It was filthy. It was basically like a bus station or dive bar bathroom. Yet, here's some guy trying to collect tips at the door. What service was he even providing? It sure wasn't cleanliness or professionalism. What a f--king joke. He wasn't even friendly. He harassed me as I walked out the door without tipping him. It's like he was just trying to bully all the young, naive kids into feeling obligated to pay him. He was one notch above a street beggar. He had a fat stack of money in his hand. He must've made a hundred bucks standing there for an hour, guilting people into tipping him for making them feel awkward. It seemed to me like he was just a security guy who decided he'd try to make extra money by hanging out in the bathroom. read more

holy crap, this place is absolutely terrible. what's a service fee for if y'all ain't gonna service any of your patrons???? staff wasn't aware of any of their own rules and didn't follow their own schedule, so everyone we asked was telling us different things. and people who came and waited in line for 5+ hours actually got into the show late (and bad spots) because security threatened to kick us out for making a line inside as we waited, since it was crazy disorganized. parking is $10 and more than a block away... why???? idgi the girls at the bar got my super simple order wrong and gave attitude instead of apologizing??? and the drinks were just bad. just a waste of time and money. never going back again-- it was a horrible experience all around. read more

I went to a concert this evening and my first impression was horrible. I was taking my little sister out and when the security checked my friends bag they told her that she could not take her water bottle in with her she then turned to walk past the female security guard to walk to the car and the security aggressively blocked her. These events are hot and we're both not fond of tap water. However I understand its policy and they don't make up the rules HOWEVER there is no reason why they treated her like a criminal. There whole demeanor was extremely unprofessional. I have worked customer service based jobs for seven years and the way they acted was completely unacceptable. I know that part of there job is to protect us but if anything these TWO WOMAN were the threat. They had the audacity to threaten to not let my friend in for rolling her eyes. After they were extremely rude. It's one thing to be stern and it's another to act like complete trash. I'm assuming that no one applied for this position so there was no process of elimination or whom ever hired them has low expectations for there employees. On a positive note I'm giving this place two stars because the employees inside were extremely polite and I tipped both of them. The vibe was pleasant and I ordered a sandwich that was worth my $10. Went to see Nothing But Thieves here and was extremely disappointed to see when we got there the room was completely packed and there were people even standing in the hallway attempting to hear the band playing. This band shouldn't have even been playing in the Constellation Room, they're big enough to fill the larger room. Finally we were able to make our way in the room, at the very back of course. They seriously need to stop overselling the shows, it was miserable. I found myself wishing the concert would hurry up and end even though I had been pretty excited to see them. Also, they need to turn up the AC. The lack of air flow made the already bad conditions even worse. We don't have many venues in Orange County that smaller indie bands play at and it's a shame that the only one sucks so much. Don't see myself wanting to come back here anytime soon unless major changes are made. read more

The food service is TERRIBLE. I'm part of a band, so we were able to order food and have it delivered to us. EXCEPT the food never arrived because they gave it to the wrong band and didn't even bother to check. So we had to order again and they STILL gave it to the same damn band! Luckily, our band leader noticed and we were able to get it, but it was a little too late; they had already ate some of our wings and the servers didn't offer to bring more. Not only that, but the servers were very rude. Unbelievable. Hire more professional staff! read more

As a musician, this is one of the best music venues I've played in. Great sound. Really friendly people running the venue. Excellent hospitality. Parking for the bands is easy, but it appears to be costly for the fans since there is no street parking. read more

I'm starting to wonder if I have only been to the Constellation Room on bad nights because I'm perplexed that people are including the phrase "great sound" in their reviews. Every time I've been there, it seems like there's a total battle between vocals and other elements; whether it be instruments, pre-recorded tracks, etc. One is always much louder than the other. For example, I was here the other evening to watch an act with three drummers, 2 vocalists who were both alternating between keytar and guitar, plus they were using tracks. I could hear the tracks, the vocals were muffled (like they were singing into a plastic cup), couldn't hear the guitar or keytar at all, and I could see the drummers but not hear or feel them. With that many drummers, the beat should be pulsing through your body. Nope. Nevertheless, the sound wasn't that obnoxious that it ruined my night. I had a WILD time! I'm just picky about sound. ;) And anyway, sometimes the lead sound tech at a venue doesn't always have complete control since many bands travel with their own personal sound dude. I ain't a hater. So, here's what I DO like. -Tickets are cheap. Last time it was $26 for 2 of us. -It's an intimate setting -The people that work here are chill -Utilizing this room as a second concert venue is smart. The smaller of the two stages at The Observatory, it's a nice little room where the best thing about it, is being able to see any featured artists up close. The bar has a nice selection at pretty standard prices, and there is sitting, but I'd have to say my biggest gripe about this place had to be how ridiculously hot it can get in there. Last month, I went with a few of my friends to see xKore, and all we kept mentioning to each other how much we were all sweating more than if we had been in the other, bigger room. Everywhere I would look, I'd see patrons wiping their foreheads and taking off any extra clothing in a vain effort to cool themselves. Speaking of the A.C, it must have busted that night as the right-side of the bar and room's floor became submerged in an inch of water. I didn't see anyone slip, but it was an annoyance nonetheless, splishing and splashing just to get from one end to another - I even saw a few douchebags kicking water towards the main crowd (although it was probably welcomed considering how hot it was in there). I even saw one of the bouncers throw a GYM SOCK on the puddle in an effort to dry it up. Still had fun, though, Would avoid this room during the summer; I can;t even BEGIN to imagine how hot is going to be come June... Unless of course they finally install a newer industrial A.C unit - which they happen to be accepting donations for at the front desk, haha. read more

Went here for a Jain concert on a Tuesday night and the venue is a room inside of the much larger observatory. Great place for more intimate concerts. There is a bar inside where inside the same room off to the side where you can buy drinks and party at the same time. read more

Small old, rundown looking venue with two separate rooms (The Constellation Room is the smaller of the two), but somehow they get KILLER artists playing here. Boggles the mind. Next month, there's Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Icona Pop, Del the Funky Homosapien, etc. Just all around great artists. Pick up is easy also, with no service charge. Parking can be an ass sometimes, but isn't a probably if you arrive early for shows, otherwise they might just charge you to use a different lot. There's a reason why I keep coming back here. I used to really love this place, I really did, believe me. I used to go every week.... Back when they didn't redirect every car to an adjacent lot that you have to pay for when they block off their own lot that has plenty of parking. They used to let us just park in their own lot. How crazy is that?? Actually parking in their parking lot? Ugh. Also, the shows they have are 15-20 dollars every single night now... Not a free or 5 dollar show in months. Wtf? The bar is so overpriced, the food sucks, and there's no show that I would actually pay to see anymore. I wanna stay away from these hip 12 year olds that will pay 20 bucks to see a show on a Wednesday night after paying for 10 dollar parking when the observatory lot is completely open (but blocked off). And hey, if this place actually let me pay at the front door instead of having to buy the tickets online (they never made me pay beforehand, you were able to always buy tickets at the window) the observatory would MAYBE earn the one star I gave them... But they don't, so I would honestly give this place no stars if I could. pass. read more

I love this small intimate stage! Its a tiny room inside the observatory venue. Don't get me wrong, I love this place but it's so small. Especially during popular shows I feel people are always pushing and you can't really enjoy the show. read more

My first time at this venue last night for the Boxer Rebellion show. It was dark but it looked like it was in the middle of an area surrounded by offices. Parking wasn't too bad but it was $10. Love this small venue within the Observatory. The line up is always good. i have seen so many great shows here.. Tennis, Blonde Redhead, The Blank Tapes, La Luz and the list goes on. If you are looking for a venue that showcases indie acts then look up the Constellation Room or the Observatory. Tix are cheap. They also have residency mondays... Nice size venue for a small band. Bar inside, in and out allowed. Only seating area are the small cocktail tables in the back on a slightly raised platform that you must purchase as part of your ticket. They have 4 chairs so you might be sharing the table. read more

I've been to the Constellation Room so many times now , and it just keeps getting better. Every time I go to a concert there I have such a great time. The whole atmosphere and vibe of the venue is awesome, and you get the chance to hang out with some of the bands after their performance! Also they have their own little parking lot area right in front, which is a huge plus if you're like me and hate paying for parking. The Constellation Room in the Observatory OC is most definitely one of my favorite concert venues to go to. read more

As a fan, I loved this place. Very small and intimate. The sound was great, all the employees were very nice. It was hot, but that just added to the fun for me. There was a good amount of smack for a merch table for the bands. The floor was not slippery and was good for any type of dancing. I recommend seeing bands here! read more

I intended to write a review describing my WORST concert going experience last night at The Constellation Room with the hope that Observatory OC management might read it and take some corrective actions. However, after reading other reviews on Yelp noting the same sauna level temperature, sardine like over crowding, parking issues, etc., it is obvious that management either does not read these reviews or does not care about their customers. I guess as long as they continue to have sold out shows things must be working okay....why change? Let's hope that somehow management voluntarily makes some changes to address these conditions in The Constellation Room before a medical emergency forces their hand. read more

I really have to agree with most of the prior reviews of this venue... I knew this before I decided to see a show here. The parking was ridiculous...there were a 1,000 open parking spots but of course you are not allowed to park in any of them as they belong to the industrial businesses near by. There is a small lot connected to the venue which was quickly filled so we were forced to park waaaaaaay the heck down the street and hike it to the venue. The constellation room is a small room connected to the larger observatory...it can hold maybe 200 people? It was insanely hot in there - so hot I might add that the band themselves stated, "hey so we know you don't want to stay in here any longer than we do because its so damn hot in here that we are going to cut out in 4 songs with no encore." Wow...really? Why no A/C?? We stood in the entrance next to the velvet drapes to catch somewhat of a breeze from the hall. Everyone was sweaty...it smelled like hot people in there....hmmmm...would really have to love the band before I decide to go here again. read more

I attended a concert by the lo-fi indie band "Tennis" featuring "Wild Belle" here at the Constellation room at the Galaxy Theater on May 1st. It was my first time there and I have to say, it was not too shabby! As a concert lover, I am a fan of the smaller, more intimate local venues rather than the huge impersonal ones, and this venue was suitable to my wants. People didn't really start to arrive until the show actually started, so my friend and I were able to find a great spot to stand right in front, and even if we had sat in the "lounge" area, we still would've had a great view. I had to use the restroom before but they wouldn't allow anyone in, but luckily there was a deserted office building within walking distance where I could go haha. Security is practically absent during & after the show, so it was a pretty chill atmosphere. The special effects are nothing special, other than some fog machines and different-colored lighting, but again, this venue is nice place if you just want to kick back and watch the show. Also there's a bar in the waiting area & inside the actual room which seemed to have a decent selection. Plus, parking is literally right in front of the venue, so you don't have to work real hard to find a spot, even if you only get there 15 minutes before doors open! I would definitely be down for another show here again. read more
