I had such a great time at MESA! The ambience is beautiful, the vibe is lively, and the DJ kept the music on point all night. The customer service was amazing everyone treated us really well and made the experience feel special. One thing I loved was the birthday sparkles they bring out. It adds such a fun touch and really gets the whole place celebrating with you. Lots of people, great energy, and overall just a perfect spot for a good night out.Parking can get a little tight, so I recommend arriving early or using valet if you don't mind paying for the convenience. Definitely giving this place 5 stars for ambience, service, and overall experience. Highly recommend!

Mesa might actually hold the title for "restaurant I've been to more than any other in my life." It's seen me through birthdays, random Tuesdays, countless Fridays, and more life phases than I care to admit. I'm genuinely thrilled they made it through the pandemic, OC is much better with them in business. I came back for their Wednesday Jazz "Supper Soirée" for the second time, and once again, they nailed it. We skipped the special menu (which is a fantastic deal at $38 for appetizer, entree, and dessert) and ordered off the regular one because, well, we know what we like: braised short rib, bone-in chicken breast, and mussels. Every bite was on point. The only miss this round? The cocktails. Normally, Mesa's bar team could run a clinic on how to make a perfect drink, but this visit....not their night. I'm calling it a fluke, though, they've earned that grace. The jazz was fantastic, though I liked the more electronic vibe they had the last time, felt a little moodier and cooler. Still, the energy was great, and I'll be back the next chance I get. If my Wednesdays were freer, this would already be a weekly tradition. Tips: - Request a booth for Jazz Wednesday, it's prime real estate for sound and comfort - Heels are totally safe here, you won't regret dressing up

I haven't been back in a decade & I was surprised that this place still existed when one of our friends suggested we come here to grab drinks. It was a Saturday night that 4 of us stopped by for a drink after having dinner nearby. Place was not as packed around 9:30 but it got more crowded as the night went on. Environment had a nice vibe & music wasn't bad. Since we got there early, we didn't have to wait long for our drinks at the bar. The price for drinks was steep as expected but good. We mostly chilled outside in the patio to chat & just hang out. Would I go back? Maybe The club/lounge scene just isn't the same as pre-covid but I'm still rating this place 3.5 star bc of no entrance fee & solid drinks.

My wife and I stopped in with friends. It's been a long time since we've been here. Probably the last was before Covid. Must say they have not skipped a beat and so happy that they are doing well! We had a terrific server and truly enjoyed our time. We had a nice lengthy dinner. Glad we had reservations at 6 PM. We left at about 7:45 PM! For starters, we opened up with their charcuterie, fried olives, and hand cut fries. All were absolutely delicious! A little more information as to the charcuterie and cheeseboard ingredients would have been nice. The fried olives were extremely tasty as well. For the main courses, we had a variety for our table, with my wife ordering a pizza margarita. I ordered their poblano chicken with fingerling potatoes, and our friends ordered a Caesar salad and the braised short ribs. All the dishes were incredibly delicious and well presented! The place was getting crowded as we departed near 7:45 PM. I can only imagine what it's like at night! Might have to come here again soon!

Came here for my friend's birthday. This place turns into a club at night. It was pretty packed. I recommend getting a table. I tried the lychee martini and it was deliciously sweet and refreshing. i LOVEEDD how they put the design on the top of it

I don't know if it was because I was really hungry but the food was pretty good. I know most people come here for the drinks but I don't drink so food was all I had. The bee sting pizza looked like it was made in a wood-fired oven and it tasted like it was too. Is it true? I don't know but any of the pizzas are worth trying. The dough was thin but chewy and the sauce was delicious. I also had a slider, which had good meat, and some of the cheese fondue. The cheese fondue part was a lie though because it was basically nacho cheese with some tortilla chips and wonton chips on the side. The addition of ground beef in the cheese did make it more filling though.

I came to Mesa for the first time for a networking event last night. It feels like an upscale lounge and I really liked the vibes. They have some cool art on the walls, some nods to Andy Warhol and some open concept fire places. It's also wild that there's an open roof! I loved the tree in the middle and the complimentary champagne upon entry. Staff were nice too. Shout out to Tyler at the front for keeping us safe!

UPDATE ON MY PREVIOUS REVIEW ABSOLUTELY LOVE MESA Amy is such a baddieee. She was so sweet and shes so prettyyy. We absolutely loved her, it almost felt like we were already friends. Everything about the night was amazing, and Amy made it 10x better. She had great drink recommendations and she was just soo sweet. We did accidentally book reservations for "Single Night" unknowingly but we enjoyed the atmosphere. The dj played a lot of throwback songs, so nostalgic, i loved it. Its only our 2nd time back but we will definitely be coming more frequently with more friends

Honestly, I cannot stop thinking about how amazing the happy hour drink and food were and have been telling all of my friends about it. If you were debating coming, you should definitely go and go early enough for happy hour!!!

Came by to celebrate a friend's birthday. Honestly, this place used to be hip but those days are long gone. The music and the crowd feel a little too District these days, IYKYK. Drinks are still solid though of course credit is given where it's due. The staff? Kinda acting like they're guarding national secrets. Can't sit here, can't stand there...mind you, the place was practically empty while they were bossing people around. Like, relax. It's Costa Mesa, not some exclusive Vegas lounge.

I've been here 10 years ago and had a great time then. Decided to do our girls dinner here this past Friday night and had a fabulous time. I made reservations online and arrived right at 8pm. Hostess were friendly and very helpful. My 2 friends were late and I was still able y get seated right away, love that about Mesa. The restaurant is still just as trendy and beautiful as I remembered. Our waitress was lovely, attentive and friendly. Our dinners were delicious except my salmon was a bit too salty for me. The lychee martinis were AMAZING just as I remembered. Enjoyable night out with my girlfriends, still highly recommend if you haven't been. They have valet for $20 or public parking available. Valet is always the way to go for me. FYI, you need your ID to get in even if you're just there for dinner because it turns into a club at 10pm.

Came in last night for a business dinner. The service was great and the live music was incredible! However, my steak was undercooked.

Ask for Becky, she's amazing! She made the whole experience even better. I highly recommend the lychee martinis and the chicken poblano--both were absolutely delicious. It's a little on the pricier side, but I'll definitely be back!

I was lucky enough to stumble across this gem of the center of OC when they first opened - and I am proud to be a regular here. I don't know how to go somewhere else - because I feel like the staff are giant gems in this jewel of a spot. Winters is a curator of boozy information that has helped me learn about "gin" and "root beer whiskey" so I can sound like an adult-ish purveyor, when really I know close to nothing except being a willing student to his creations. Dan the Man and Jacob always see me raise my hand in the corner of the bar, like the student I am, and have been willing to fill in the blanks for me when I know I am of thirst, but do not have the words for what to order. Every person working in the well has treated me with kindness - they have taken the time to get to know me, and I will be forever appreciative of how they have taken care of me over the years. But the real joy has been the transformation that this spot has for building a community of people in Santa Ana for real recognizing real. I have been bringing my Dad with me to play pool for the past few years. Sometimes people ask me if he plays professionally, I am terrible, and my skill incline is slow, he is patient and plays with the same level craftiness that the staff offer the cocktails. My Dad is always stoked when we have time to go have a few hours of games at 616 - especially now that there are regulars on 4th street that are excited to see that he is there playing - and they rush to write their names on the chalkboard to challenge him - or beat him in a game they really earned the W. On lazy Sundays, I watch couples sit with their drink, listening to Jazz, and watching my Dad whoop my ass while making amazing shots. I am forever grateful to Memo who sometimes takes a break from his shift behind the bar to give my dad an actual challenge - which allows me the chance to watch my Dad enjoy fellowship around the table. Knowing the table was a relic of the bars former self, and knowing the history that this spot has in Santa Ana is a reminder that so much around us can change - but it is those moments of the crack of the rack, the cheer of getting the combo shot, and the shake of hands when it's over that shows that it's not just about the pool table - but about the energy of a place that is welcoming and curated by people who care about what they do - and care about who comes through their doors. Thank you Jason and Mike B to bringing this to 4th St and supporting the community that was already here - and for building a community for the future. Thank you to Christina and Brandon for always having amazing pictures, decor, and fun events at 616 that help introduce new folks into this great spot. Time is short. Learn about Root Beer Whiskey. After a farewell dinner to/at Gulliver's Prime Ribs Of Beef, our party of six continued the evening several miles away at Stowaway for some light bites and libations. Personally, I was all about the Hawaiiana tiki culture and tried to live it every day. Founded by co-owners Leonard Chan and Dominic Iapello, its current home of barely three years in a former dive bar came about when they unceremoniously had to leave the original location. With its proximity to Disneyland's Enchanted Tiki Room and the very niche underground-like society of tiki culture, they found their footing with a consistent customer base and the thrill of island escapism through colorful cocktails, pleasurable pupus, and tropical trimmings. Would I stow myself away somewhere inside and never leave!? PURCHASE(S) Don Q Punch Bowl ($38.00): Made with Don Q's Cristal Silver, Anejo, and 151 Gold Rums, respectively, peach brandy, passion fruit, pineapple juice, and citrus juices, this flaming concoction was rumtastic in every way possible as the tropical juices just made it that much sweeter. There were more ice chips than I liked, but it was a fun trough to drink out of for the four of us who wanted to imbibe. Coconut Shrimp 6pc ($12.00): Breaded and flash-fried plump shrimp served with a sweet chili dipping sauce, these were tasty and perfectly paired with the Don Q cocktail I was drinking. Stowaway Fries ($17.00): Constructed with a pile of crisp golden spud sticks, rum braised pork, and topped with a hearty gravy and sunny-side up egg, this loco moco fries dish was slamming while the slightly charred juicy pork had me squealing with enjoyment. SERVICE We had reservations, so once our entire party arrived, they quickly seated us in a cool cave-live separate alcove for more privacy. Our server arrived with menus, suggestions, and glasses of water. Minutes later, we all ordered at once, and everything (drinks and food) arrived within ten minutes. Because we had another reservation inside the same bar, we informed our male server and to let us know when we were allowed to go there. All was casual, chill, and somewhat on island time - aloha and mahalo! PARKING (FREE): They shared a medium-sized private lot with several other businesses who were closed at this time with plenty of spots - 'nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE Located within a strip mall, you opened the front door and walked into an island oasis as if you were a cast member on "Gilligan's Island" with thatched roof material above you, tiki statues displaced on all of the volcanic-looking walls, collections of tiki mugs past and present for purchase, a central square bar with plenty of stools, and seemingly small dark nooks and private spaces where naughty things could happen. No natural lighting whatsoever while an assortment of extremely low-lit electric lights barely guided you along. There were no TVs while I recalled various styles of music played in the background along with chatter and clamor of conversations in all directions. ATTIRE Although I was actually dressed appropriately for the occasion in an aloha shirt, linen pants, and flip-flops, this place was totally casual, so a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops would suffice. OVERALL I had a cowabunga time at Stowaway, and I couldn't wait to return to try more of their awesome-soundling elixirs. I loved tiki bars, and although this was generally out of my range, I'd make a special trip or two here. My one drink was lip-smacking good, the pupus were yummy, the prices were reasonable enough, the atmosphere was stupendous, and the service was friendly and professional. While the drinks menu was loaded with tropical cocktails, an impressive rum selection, and a decent assortment of local craft beers, the food menu was somewhat limited. And, the bar had happy hour TU-FR 4pm-6pm. Plus, I always preferred to support small local mom & pop businesses. I found complete value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $75.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 5.0 STARS
