When I got back, without finding my fab key, they told me to leave my car as long as needed and helped me figure out a locksmith. They were kind and genuinely caring. As fate would have it, upon loading my bike into my friend's car, I saw my key fab had somehow fallen from my pack and gotten lodged into my bike frame where it remained for over 18 miles! I test rode a smaller frame version. They offered to let me buy a bike and order the large frame version for me. I suggested they call me when they get one in stock. Nyet! Salesman was not willing to do that. I guess trying to motivate me to buy a bike. Spending over $1000 requires me to physically try the product before I buy. I bought from a competitor.

If you value customer service, I would probably look elsewhere when purchasing a new bike or having a bike serviced.

However, we went to pick up the bikes and one of them stopped working on our way home - it wouldn't accelerate. We called and explained the issue. They told us it'd be another $200 (after we'd already spent $1,000 on the tune up) to fix the issue. Our stance was that the bike worked perfectly fine until we dropped it off at the Bicycle Chain. They kept it for a few days and called us saying that it had been fixed. We tried to ride it home and it still wasn't working. We took it back and they told us we have a cheap e bike that'll end up in a land field - that there was nothing they could do. He said he'd tried to switch out the brake because the back brake was in bad shape - we JUST PAID THEM to replace all 4 brakes on both bikes. So, did they charge us for a brake that they never replaced?! The manager proceeded to call my bike cheap again and told me to call the distributor. Extremely inconsiderate. Will NEVER take my bikes here again.

When I called in the second day to ask when it would be ready, they told me how short staffed and overwhelmingly busy they are. But when I go in to pick it up the store is empty except for four employees-- three guys lounging around and one poor woman working her butt off in the back. I get if those guys aren't trained to fix bikes, but then train them. I lived in LA for years and the people living in tents on the streets fix bikes to get by. It's not some prestigious thing that these college kids need to pay their dues and work their way up to... just train them and watch your business succeed.

Going into the space, I was welcomed by friendly people, such as a man named Dave and Sean, where they partnered me with a bike aid, Mr.Craig. Overall, the atmosphere was welcoming and informative. I explained to Mr.Craig that I was interested in a hybrid bike with a basket attachment, yet I wasn't sure. In the end, he set up a multiple of bikes I thought I was interested in, allowed me to know that I could change the handle bars, seat, peddles, and allowed me to take time in deciding which one I preferred and was better for my wants. In the end, I selected a commuter bike that ticked all of boxes and allowed me to fix it up. The community is something I hope to stay apart of !!

"Non-profit bicycle workspace/ sales!"…read more Tired of the high prices of bikes in the area? Don't know how to fix your rusty clunker and want some help and parts? The Durham Bike Co-op is exactly what you need! We discovered this place at the Earth Day festivities last weekend, and promptly visited the "store" the next day. It's not a "store", though they will sell you a fixed-up bike if you want to do that. Instead, you can come, donate a couple of hours of time, and then have a "membership" where you can fix up your own bike and use their many donated parts/ supplies as well as tapping into the expertise of the many other folks there. No previous mechanical experience necessary- they have the tools and will show you what you can do. If you don't feel like volunteering but just want to get your bike fixed, you can pay a small fee (WAY less than you'd pay at a local store). The facility is in a rather sketchy neighborhood, but they have a VERY impressive number of bikes of all sizes and types, as well as TONS of bike accessories. It's hard to imagine you couldn't find something to suit your desires at this place. The help we got from "Walt" on our visit was outstanding- he outfitted both my son and I with new-to-us bikes, set up exactly as we wanted them and fitting our needs (mine was a mountain bike, his was a kids' bike), for ~$80, and that came with 2 memberships for the year so we can come there and use parts/ accessories. Their hours are very limited (Sundays 1-6pm, and I think Thursday nights), and the facility can be a little crowded and a little chaotic, but it's fantastic for anyone who wants to get a cheap bike or fix up their current bike without breaking the bank.
