They are the worst. They are racist. They were rude the minute we went to check in. They gave us two rooms one on top and the other on the bottom. They gave us the codes which worked for both rooms. After an hour they came and started cursing that's we were in the wrong room. They were extremely rude and disrespectful when told to stop being disrespectful the girl went to get her father. I love this resort I've stayed there many times. I always rent rooms 17 or 18. The best part of the resort is renting from Captain Bob, pontoon boats. I typically hire a captain, so I can enjoy myself thoroughly. The butcher always brand new, and in perfect condition Captain Bob's a great guy he's like family I feel like I know him for years my friends always enjoy when we rent the boats and go around Lake, George and the captains he has for hire are very pleasant and accommodating. Highly suggested if you are looking to stay directly on the lake while visiting Bolton Landing. Usually in Lake George the hotel rooms are much smaller and outdated. At Contessa, this was not the case. Our unit was clean, spacious and updated. And the best part of all, it wasn't just a single bedroom. Instead, the units here are full condos. Our unit had two bedrooms, and a large living room and kitchen. There is also a private patio with a grill. And of course, that patio overlooks like breathtaking lake which really can't be beat. There is also a view of the lake from the master bedroom window. We usually pay the same amount for a small room in downtown Lake George, so for the same amazing view and even more space I highly suggest heading about 20 minutes up the road to Bolton Landing. Plus, it's got a much less touristy vibe if you are into that kind of thing. We came during the fall and weren't able to use the pool, but I'm sure during the summer it's a great time. The owner of the hotel (Bob) also owns a boat rental company, so it seems like you can rent a boat without having to leave the grounds. Most of the Bolton Landing shopping and dining is also a 2 minute drive up the road, along with a liquor store and a supermarket. Hopefully I'll be back when the weather is warmer so that I can enjoy all of the amenities. But, regardless of season this is a great choice for a Lake George getaway. read more

I just returned from a family vacation at contessa resort. we were lucky enough to have a cabin to bring our pup with us (cabin 15). I read all these reviews and wasn't sure what to expect. we were very happy with our choice to stay here and definitely will return! it's all about location. the view from our deck was amazing. everything was in walking distance. plenty of privacy. they had a dock for our boat and when we returned the staff was happy to help! cleaning staff always reliable, most of the time we just asked for towels, but if we weren't there they came in and replace towels, vacuumed. if you are looking for a upscaled resort, remember where you are. we have been coming to LG for many years I like the cabins just the way they are clean but rustic ( a big step up from camping on the islands). we enjoyed our much needed family time, exactly what I was hoping for! highly recommend read more

My friend and I were planning a last minute girls weekend 2 weeks out, and we happened to come across this place. We ended up in Suite 1. The bed is comfortable, the deck is nice and shaded, and you get a great view of the lake. The room was very clean, and smelled great! I had read quite a few reviews a few days before we checked in, and saw many complaints about Captain Bob. I won't lie, I was a bit hesitant during check in. However, he was very friendly and kind. His staff was great, and Captain Bob was even more friendly during check out 2 days later. I don't know, maybe some caught him in an off day. Either way, we will be back. read more

Hard to believe that he can stay in business. Also hard to believe any review that says anything good about the place other than the view. He is an abusive, angry man that thinks hes funny. Room stunk of disinfectant and insect spray. Dark and tired. Bed was old, hard (not firm) and noisy. Bob was not around at check-in time. We called the number for problems on the office door, and he told us that 3 "was a little unrealistic" to expect to be able to get into the room. When he was questioned about it the following morning at checkout, he became defensive and eventually said "F*** you lady" to my wife. Captain Bob deserves a promotion to "Major Dick"!! read more

We have been coming up to Lake George and Contessa's resort for 10 years now, usually 2 to three times annually. There are lots of positives and a few negatives about this resort and the owner so let me give you the scoop from my point of view. First I travel for work and I am in hotels 75 nights a year, I comprehend good and bad service. Over the last few years, we have had plenty of friends and family up at this resort. The Family week has moved here from the Fort Henry Hotel for the family trip with 10 to 14 guests. This summer our family will also have a bachelorette weekend at Contessa Resort complete with a boat rental and one of the Contessa's boat boys as the boat captain. When it comes to the resort this place is an 8 out of 10 as it has great views, a nice pool, a playground and on an excellent part of the lake close to the islands and close to restaurants that can be visited by boat. The cabins are all clean and appointed well, keep in mind they are cabins. Contessa has done a pretty good job over the last decade to keep them updated. There have been many complaints about the cabins and Bob on other websites, so from our experiences: 1) The toaster was broken - Bob purchased a new one that day and brought it over. 2) We left clothes in the room - Their lost and found department had the clothes folded a month later when we returned and inquired about them. 3) We were short cooking utensils from guests liberating them on the pack-out - More cooking utensils were immediately supplied 4) My AC unit did not work one night - I spoke to Bob at 7:00 AM and a new replacement AC was in the room the next morning before noon. 5) Bob forgot I was docking my boat when I arrived back to the dock after dark - He brought one of his boats to the public dock and perhaps had a $100.00 ticket for overnight parking. 6) I ran out of gas on one of his pontoon boats - He sent help and only charged me for the gas needed and not the "dummy you ran out of gas fee" clearly stated on the contract. The trick to all of this above is communications to Contessa's, many others have complained but did not say anything until they reviewed the resort. Also, know Bob is a stickler about rules such as check-in times, check out times, deposits, grills and propane cooking, kids being supervised on the docks, etc. Clearly a military guy in his youth. Now for the not so good reality, Bob is a probably not best suited to be a warm and fuzzy Inn-Keeper, even though he is an extremely strong businessman. I would rank Bob a 6 out of 10 as the primary contact of the resort and an Inn-Keeper. Conversely, his daughter Kristina does a great job of trying to mitigate Bob being overly gruff with some guests. I am confident that if Bob was to become that warm and fuzzy Inn-Keeper or just let his daughter be the primary guest contact that his return guest occupancy rate would increase and his room rates could exponentially increase, don't hold your breath on this one. (This is good for us looking for last minute rooms on nice summer days) My dad was just like Bob so his ways are barely noticeable to me. Recap: this is not the Four Seasons and if you want that type of service the Sagamore is a mile away for 5 times the room rate, no problem. If you want an always welcoming place and you do not really care about the accommodations and grounds, most other places on Lake George may fit your needs. Now if you are looking for excellent cabins, top-notch pontoon boat rentals, a great place on the lake and reasonable rates, assuming your family understands there are rules here, Contessa Resort is a home run! read more

On September 10, 2020, my 89 year old father had his reservation canceled by a rude, obnoxious and irrational individual. We're not even exactly sure why. My father was staying there while we camped on the narrows islands. The Contessa either took exception to my father parking his car there before check in or that we rented boats from another marina where we had been renting for over 35 years. Worst experience ever: at the ask to have our room cleaned (it was 130ppm) the owner started insulting my husband based on the fact that his daughter mistook my husband for another client smoking on the porch. When I asked for an explanation the owner started insulting me using gender-related profanities and the daughter physically threatened me in front of our 8 year old daughter. After searching online for a spot to rent for Labor Day weekend I stumbled upon Contessa Resorts. I called up the owner Bob who was really sweet and helped me plan the best spot to rent that he had to offer to accommodate myself and my 11 friends. We ended up renting the two penthouse rentals that are rite next to each other and was the perfect fit for me and my friends. The rentals were recently re-renovated and were really nice, my favorite part of the rentals were the views from the master bedrooms and the huge back deck. The location of Contessa Resorts was absolutely perfect, with a food store just 5 mins down the road and the main strip in Bolton Landing being just rite past that everything we needed was just a few minutes away. I really loved that they had a cleaning crew come in every day around noon to clean the entire place from top to bottom. The accommodations that were provided were really nice as well, I loved that we had an in ground pool to hang out by for the days we didn't have a boat rented and that there was a grill to use poolside resulting in us not having to run back up to the rentals. There is also a play ground for children and a fire pit to hang out around at night and not to mention the dock at the end of the property where you can rent a pontoon boat from Captain Bob himself. Booked on hotels.com. Arrived for my reservation and was told he canceled our reservation because they want a two night minimum stay! We drove 3 hours. He said he had vacancies but only if I was willing to pay for two nights. I would have considered it had he not been so rude unpleasant. It appears as though my experience was not unique. There are reviews on Hotels.com, tripadvisor, and google of VERY similar experiences. My only guess is that he does this to scam guests into paying for more nights. Found Contessa after a LOT of online research. It's a family-owned/run business (father and daughter), and the place has been in the family since the 1950s. THE ROOM We had the cheapest ($145/night) rooms, which were very simple but very clean. A shared deck had views of Lake George. Unfortunately, if there are noisy parties staying at the "resort" one can hear them if they're out on the deck. Also, there are two lights in the room. For those over 45 or so, more/better lighting would be nice. I would have felt better if our keys worked the deadbolts instead of the dinky residential-grade doorknobs alone. GOOD NEWS The ladies that cleaned the room were great - did an excellent job and were friendly. The gentleman who cared for the pool and grounds was similarly helpful. The daughter was always nice and gregarious, but for the whole week I kept getting the vibe that "Captain Bob" felt he was doing us a favor by allowing us to stay there. Locals informed us that this is his reputation - lots of eye-rolls we replied to "So, where are you staying?" WHAT A DRAG A neighbor was having major construction performed and a VERY loud, annoying machine (think PILE DRIVER) droned most days from 8:30am to 5:30pm. I can't blame the "resort" owners, but it kinda sucked. Fortunately, the room's sound insulation was good and we did spend most of our time out and about. Shame on Bolton Landing for issuing a permit that allowed this noise at the end of the summer in a town whose economy is dependent on tourists/guests - really, this couldn't wait another week?! For the first couple of days, the cable tv was not working. To his credit, "Captain Bob" was on the phone yelling at the cable company to get someone out ASAP to fix it. The weirdest thing we found, and this might be because we're used to renting down the Jersey Shore, was that despite the room having a fridge, sink, and microwave, along with a counter that had drawers, nothing was provided. No plates, glasses, forks, etc. We had to load up at the local grocery store the next day. I can't imagine it would take more than about $10 per room to provide these items. At the very least, the reservation confirmation and/or web site should have advised accordingly. Tried to rent a pontoon boat but "Captain Bob" demanded $40 for fuel for two hours (I had to negotiate a 2-hour rental as most places have a 4-hour minimum for pontoons for some reason). So the pontoon would have come to close to $300 for two hours with fuel and a tube to tow. I balked. We ultimately found a nearby rental place, got a really clean, nice boat, paid only for the fuel we used, and saved about $90. Plus, their staff truly appreciated our business. SUMMARY This is barely three stars ("Captain Bob" should thank his daughter and his staff for the bump). We saw other options north of BL that we'll look into if we return to the area in the future. read more

Reservations online do not work even though they tell you to make a reservation online.They take your credit card number and charge you whatever they want. I booked a room and was told i would loose a one-night deposit if i were to cancel. They charged me for two night without informing me prior, and kept the entire deposit when i cancelled. Yelled on me on the phone and ended up hanging up on me. I decide to pick this place because my daughter wanted to celebrate her birthday in a cabin, the rest of my friends picked other hotels places to spend the weekend in Lake George. On our second day (Saturday) my friends came to gifts for my daughter, and they satyed for an hour planning the places that we were going to be visiting. After that we all left. We came back to the place around 7pm with our friends and we started a barbecue because the unit has a grill and was perfect to celebrate a Birthday weekend at the lake. While we were cooking the receptionist came to the cabin and let me know that the owner wants my guest leave a soon as possible because it was getting dark, I was surprised to hear this and asked the lady to let me talk to the owner and find out the reasoning, I followed her to the reception. The owner showed up and started scheaming at me that I was all day in the cabin because he saw us in the beach earlier in the morning when we were showing our friendss the place we rented, He said You spend all day here, they have to get out of here, youare paying for 4 people not for 8, I don´t need your shit or I will throw you out with your family too. I thought it was a misunderstanding and he confused us with someone else, I tried to explain that we spend the day in the Outlets and Horse Riding but he insisted that I was lying and he then tried to intimidated me with his tone of voice.... him and the handyman followed me to the cabing and took the Gas tank from the Grill and told my wife The party is over your guest need to leave now and I´m going to take the gas ass hole. The Barbecue waas cancelled and all food stayed there. My family and our guests left immediately because we felt unsafe in that place. I took my 13 years old daughter with all her gifts and decorations home. We got home around 3am because of it. Here is the exact email--you decide: Subject line "Reservation Confirmation" This confirms your reservation at Contessa Resort for the nights of August 15 and 16. You reserved a room for two guests at a two night rate of $310 plus $34.10 tax totaling $344.10. We are charging your master card ending in XXXX the amount of $165 as deposit leaving a balance of $179.10 payable upon arrival. Our cancellation policy is thirty days if you cancel after July 15 you will forfeit your deposit prior to that date we will refund your deposit less a 5% of your deposit service fee. Please reply to this email STATING YOU AGREE TO THE TERMS OF OUR CANCELLATION POLICY. Soooo... It clearly & explicitly states the reservation is confirmed and they are charging my CC for the deposit. Rez confirmed, CC charged deposit--what else matters? Fast forward to arrival date... That ALL CAPS addendum was all that mattered to them. Arrogant/indifferent check-in girl rudely tells me I have no rez and they have no rooms--See ya. So now I'm in Bolton Landing on a Saturday night during peak season with nowhere to stay and they couldn't care less. No, "Sorry for the misunderstanding" No, "Can we reccommend another property" Zero empathy to me & my wife. She simply resumed her cell phone call and ignored me. It just showed a total lack of professionalism and any notion of customer service skills. I was furious and emailed the owner to explain how a rez confirmation is not a confirmation. BEWARE: Visit here at your own risk! The owner/operator is threatening, & verbally abusive to guests! Resort = 1.5 stars. dingy, old, rustic, and very no-frills, with many broken or stained items. Cabin & decks dirty, yucky items (like a lube bottle and old shoe) under our bed. During our July 2018 visit, pool "closed" with a sign from the Dept of health... yet the 4 star views of Lake George make it appealing... for camping types. The owner, Bob (aka Capitan Bob), however, gets a NEGATIVE infinity score - as low as it can go on the human evolution scale, very unprofessional, abrasive manner of speech and behavior. We rented 5 cabins here for a family gathering ...Including their largest "house" 4 bedroom, 2 bath cabin. [Note: All 5 cabins were paid for in full & all but one had their respective deposits paid, plus a 2 day boat rental] My cousin was abrasively approached by Christina (desk / resort mngr & Bob's daughter) about a security deposit form that hadn't been signed off on. I was told Christina came onto their cabin deck, with a raised voice asking for the wrong name, then got upset with my cousin who didn't know what she was talking about. My cousin calmly clarified about the name, through Christina's aggression and then tried to explain to her that they had every good intention to get this form to the owners. After being confronted harshly, my cousin told her brother about it & asked that he head to the office right away to ensure the desk had the last needed form from him. When he arrived in the office to sign, I was told that Christina got angered and raised her voice & said that she was "always in the office, except for when she was at therapy.." My cousin explained that he did in fact try to get their security form in, which hadn't been provided to him upon checkin and on his few visits to the office nobody was in there. He inquired about why Christina came over to the deck and engaged in such a hostile way with his sister (in front of four small children) - when they could have simply called him, or asked politely and professionally. APPARENTLY Cpt Bob didn't like the fact that my cousin was questioning this, and yelled at him, "Get OUT of my office, sign that form or I'm calling the cops about your trespassing on my property..." My cousin came over to tell me and a few other family members who were up for coffee in the morning what had happened. Hearing him recant this unfortunate scenario and explain how frantic and abusive Bob and his daughter were was appalling. I ventured over to the office & asked, "Bob, is there some sort of a problem & did you really yell at my cousin and tell him you were calling the cops and reporting him as a trespasser here?" Without missing a beat, Bob puffed out his chest and fat belly - waved his arm in my face & exclaimed, "yeah I did, and what are you gonna do about it?" Again, I was in shock. I couldn't believe his hostility. Forget about unprofessional, he was acting like an enraged bull. I replied, "well then - I guess you should call the cops, and we do have a huge problem if you think that's ok to talk to paying guests like this! We are having a nice family gathering and rented five cabins here, AND he and I CAME here to the office to do exactly what was asked of us, and this is how you treat people?" He and his daughter went on to squabble - I attempted again to focus on fact that we came to sign the form, and now require an apology for being so mistreated. Bob stepped further into my personal space, waved his hand in my face and yelled, "YOU'RE A F*CKING BITCH!- GET out of my office!" He did this with my four year old cousin standing RIGHT at my side, along with his two boating guests and others from my family. Once again I was completely shocked and mortified. There was no reasoning with Bob, he had no interest in being calm, professional, apologetic, nor rational. He simply wanted to fight. I feel sorry for his poor daughter and know that she is biding her time and doing daily therapy sessions simply to deal with the stress of her sociopath father until he retires and she can run the joint. Let's hope she can become a better human being, and not an old dog incapable of learning the "new trick" about basic human decency before it's too late. Needless to say, part of our family left the resort early and those of us who remained made sure to steer clear of cpt Bob with regards to confronting him on this matter or any other. Seriously folks - I highly encourage you to find ANY other option for accommodations and boating. I truly believe that Cpt Bob should be taught the lesson. If it's not through even slightly less income based off lessoned rentals after readers KNOW what a terrible person he and Christina are, it certainly will be through their karma. I use to come to this resort with my family for 20years and never had an issue. I came back for the first time in 10 years and got insulted and racial profiled. We had called a week in advanced asking if we would be able to check in upon arriving because we had kids and after a 5+ hours drive they would be cranky. Assuming it was bob he said it was fine. When we arrived, there was no one at the office. We called the number and Christine rudely told us "check in isn't until 3" and hung right up. Confused we went looking for someone else to talk to. When we roamed around and found no one we went back to the office area where Christine was pulling in. Immediately she started mouthing off for no reason yelling "check in is at 3". We asked if she was the owner she said no her dad was. We asked if she could call him and she told us to go down the road and go eat or something and come back at 3. (It was 1:15). Again we said no we want to talk to the owner and she started yelling for us to get the fuck off her property. She threatened to punch my brother in the face and ram her car into his truck. We then argued to give us our money back then because this is horrible customer service and we didn't travel a long way for this nonsense with kids in the car! She told us to fuck off and said "what are you mexican" along with calling us scumbags. She called the cops and we waited there for them. (She didn't ram her car into the truck because the cops arrived) she started yelling yet again to get us off the property and even yelled at the cop! She was way out of control! I don't go up to the Lake George area as much as I would like, and I recently was tasked with organizing a trip to the Lake. I needed a large boat to fit a 10 person group and needed rooms on the lake as well. I stumbled upon Cantessa Resort in my searches and gave them a call. I spoke with Bob, who answered all my questions and was able to set me up with a great pontoon boat, and rooms/ cottages to fit all our needs. I also go great rates on both the boat and rooms, comparatively better then anything else I could find. I booked everything based on what Bob had told me and some pictures online. I have to say, no one was disappointed. In fact, most people were very surprised by how nice everything was, from the new boat to the remodeled rooms. Each room had a full fridge, there were gas grills ( tanks supplied and ready to BBQ), private decks, a nice pool over looking the lake, and open grass areas for outdoor activities. It was close enough to the town to be able to walk to the bars. Everyone had a great time. Despite a few of the other reviews I had read regarding, Bob the owner, I had no problems. We had a chance to hang out with Bob at one point during the day and he is a good guy. He is also the no BS, straight shooter, type of guy. So Don't expecting Mr. Belvedere to be behind the desk when you arrive to check in. To some it up, we had a great time at the Contessa, and I will definitely be going back. This place was great for a guys weekend and nice enough, with plenty to do, to go with your family. read more

That is the kind of customer service you can expect from the folks at Contessa Resort. It is truly a shame to be writing a poor review of this motel, since the rooms are superb, the view is breathtaking, and the surrounding community is great, however, the owner is horrifically rude, vulgar, and unpleasant. I am sure that you can have a great time at the Contessa if you don't have interact with the owner whatsoever... on the off-chance that you do, you really owe it to yourself to simply book somewhere else. There are many other instances of this complete lack of customer service (which was well into the territory of customer abuse) published by users on other websites such as Trip Advisor, or Yelp, or Google Reviews. We went to Contessa Resort in Bolton Landing Lake George for Labor Day weekend. One of the perks to this place is if you have a pet, they have 2 cabins where they allow animals and all cabins have lake side views. The other perk is Christina who is the daughter to the owner does pet sitting. For a very small fee, I knew my puppy Biscuit the Wheaton "Terror" was being well taken care of. We rented a pontoon right there on the property. The boats are in immaculate condition and their life jackets did not smell like mildew a big perk. The cleaning staff were so nice they sanitize every day that is one of the most important things when I am away. All of the staff knew Biscuit he greeted all the customers every day becoming the Mascot to the resort. If you stay at Contessa you are guaranteed a scenic view, exceptionally clean cabins (big perk) and boat rentals at your fingertips. We were so happy to find a great spot, right on the lake, where we could easily bring our pup and take her on all the local hiking trails in October! Such a great time! Don't be deceived, this place is a dumpster!! I had arrived to my cottage after a 4 hour drive only to be welcomed by a huge mess waiting for me. There were food stains and alcohol bottles everywhere! After I had asked for it to be cleaned or for a cleaner cottage the owner Bob had told me there was nothing he was able to do about it. I was forced to clean my own cottage which took up over 3 hours and my entire families vacation was ruined. I will start by saying do yourself and your family a favor and stay far away from this place. The owner is unhospitable unprofessional won't accommodate simple requests. I had rented a slip for my boat for the july 4th weekend. when I arrived there was no power to charge the batteries on my boat when I asked to have the power turned on I was told its already on and if its not working it wasn't a part of the deal anyway. On the day of July 4th the busiest day of the summer season my family and I went down to the slip to use the boat my kids went to step on the dock and were yelled at to not step on the dock it was wet with paint!?!?!?!? I couldn't believe what we were being told this was 3:00 pm in the afternoon on a holiday weekend and I can't get to my boat to enjoy the water are you kidding me. I proceeded to voice my profound disgust over this situation and was met with a barrage of insults and profanity. At that time I didn't know this was the owner of the property I had thought he was a worker when I went to the office to complain I was told that he was the owner. I was in total shock how could the owner of a business like this act the way he did. His daughter was very nice to me and my family and she tried to do all she could to make up for her fathers obvious lack of professionalism but she's not a magician. My family and I have made it a tradition to stay at Contessa's every summer. The cabins are clean, spacious and updated, and the amenities are great. The views of the lake are breathtaking as well. Ok let me start from the very begining. I was extremely excited to spend a girls weekend at lake George . It was between there or fire island. I called caption Bob and he was more than helpful explaining all we can do at his resort and the town. Two months later, the date of our actually vacation we called Bob to ask about a local supermarket we can pick food up on the way. He was weirdly aggravated we were on our way because he was on his way to a concert out of town. He told me he did not receive any confirmation for my room. Can I mention I had a copy of the signed and dated fax that I sent 4 weeks prior. So we check in and his daughter helped us on upon arrival. She was very rough around the edges but helpful. My girlfriends and I have a great two nights. We went to a local ice cream shop and the person at the counter wished us luck when we told him we were staying at Captian Bobs. We woke up Saturday morning and one of my friends had numerous bites all over her legs and backside. She than found a tiny bug on her and something led us to check her mattress. Long stressful morning short there were bugs all over the mattress pad. These bugs were extremely small we were only able to tell they were bugs by looking with out iPhone flashlights. We called Bob telling him there are bed bugs on the mattress. He said " ohh ok we'll kill them don't worry I'll send someone up." One hour later, Bob was no where to be found. He told us "the store was out of bed bug spray." And extremely long story later involving his daughter telling us she " doesn't fucking care" and Bob telling us " we'll I am not coming up there with those bugs" Bob refused to give us our money back bc he said we either brought the bugs or there are no bugs. I did speak to the extremernator who searched the room. He said he did a througouh search and he did not find any live bugs either. He saw a few blood stains which come from a dead bed bug. We met with the exterminator and he confirmed that the bug we photographed from the mattress cover was a bed bug. Bob told us that we could of took the picture anywhere. In plain English Bob is an animal. He told me I am a " dumb bitch" and " surely not a lady." Unfortuitly I am a 27 year old school teacher who was demeaned and scolded on a vacation which my girl friend I and I have been forward for month. In short our vacation was ruined and I will not only never go back to contessa resort but I will think again before I visit Bolton Landing. The resort was beautiful. On we'll maintained land and updated rooms. However Bob should locked in a cage . He is an absolute animal and I wouldn't let my gold fish be in his presences beware of Captian Bob and his family. read more

#1- I made a point to call the Contessa office early in the day to make sure someone would be available for a late check-in (after 10pm). As I was trying to explain to Bob what time I would be arriving, he just kept talking over me saying "any time after 2, any time after 2". Ok fine. We arrived around 10:40pm. Nobody was in the office. There was a buzzer and a note that said to press buzzer, and if no response to call the phone #. We buzzed several times- no response. Then, over the next hour tried calling the phone #. After several times calling, (about 1 hour and 15 minutes after we arrived) Bob finally answered his phone. We did not get into the room until 1 and 1/2 hours after arriving. So much for any time after 2. #2- After getting to sleep around 1 am, I was awoken by the sound of people laughing, talking very loudly, banging things, and moving furniture at 3:40 am. It sounded like a (lets go back to the room after the bars close) party. I waited about 1/2 hour and then called Bob to ask him if he could do something. He said he would check it out. The noise didn't stop until 5am. #3-In the morning we realized that there were people above us, which was surprising because we rented a 2 unit (side by side) cabin (#11 on their website). The photo shows 2 units with, NOTHING above them. Apparently we were in a 4 unit building (2 on top of 2), with the other 3 units being people who were all together (a wedding party). We would absolutely NOT have booked anything with people above us! #4- My husband and I went to speak to Bob in the morning. Right from the beginning he seemed annoyed. I asked him if he went down to our cabin when I called. He said he had, but I didn't see him. According to him he went to unit 9 and didn't see anyone. He kept asking me if it was unit 9. I said I had no idea what the number is because there was only supposed to be one other unit attached to ours and there were 3. I pointed out that we weren't in the right room according to the picture on the website. He said he didn't know what was on the website. Really?? Come on. That's just ridiculous. I asked him to move us to another room or refund our money. He laughed and said "I'm not giving you any money back". At that point I called him a liar. He told me to get off his property. I told him I would only leave if he gave me my money back. The last thing he said to me was "you're a real CUNT". So... if you want to wait an hour and a half to get into your room, get a different room from the one you booked, not get any sleep, be lied to, and called a cunt, this is the place for you! On the up side- the view was lovely. read more

Swung by the Contessa Resort Motel (Bolton's Landing) last year to rent a pontoon boat for a camping trip from Captain Bob. We had no problem getting our paperwork sorted out, paying up (at a more reasonable price than any other pontoon rentals in the area I might add), and getting out on the water. The Cap'n kept us laughing throughout the process. He made sure the boat was cleaned up for us, properly inspected, fueled up, and that the drivers in our group were adequately versed in how to operate it. It ran great for the few days we had it and everyone had a blast. On the way back to the dock on our last day, we were met with choppy water and a crowded marina so Bob's assistant helped us get the boat docked safely. That was a huge help. My group of friends likes to mix up our camping destinations every year, but we had such a good time that we're coming back and renting from Bob and Contessa again this year! read more

I would not recommend renting a boat from Contessa Motel (Capt. Bob's Pontoon Rentals). The owner had absolutely no customer service skills, was rude and condescending! We returned the boat a day early because of bad weather and were verbally told that if the boat was returned by 7 pm we would not be charged for the next day. We returned the boat by 7 pm and were told we signed a contract stating we would not receive a refund. We signed the front of the contract but this was stated on the back of the contract which we not instructed to review or sign. read more

Visited Contessa Resort for the Memorial Day weekend and had a great time. We stayed in cabin #14 and it was really nice. Great view of the lake, cozy room with full kitchen, living room, bedroom and bath. Also comes with your own grill to use. Staff was friendly and helpful. Unfortunately the pool and lake were still too cold to enjoy but when the weather is nice its a very relaxing place. They have kayaks that you can use for free if your staying there (both single and double) which was great. Its extremely affordable compared to other places right on the water. Close to Bolton which is a great town to go out for a bite to eat and do some shopping. All in all i would definitely recommend this place to anyone. read more

The room was "good" and the view was good as well but the service is worst that what you expect when you pull into a gas station in the middle of nowhere. "Captain" Bob is arrogant and his daughter is even worst. We rented a room because we were only two (my boyfriend and I) and during my reservation call "Captain" Bob told me that I could use any Of the grills. When we get there (after a really rude check-in process) we start using on of the grills and the daughter came out screaming that we didn't have the right to use any grill because we were in a room and not a villa. After my bf confronted them I was called a liar. We also spend all day listening to the "Captain" going up and down in he's golf cart picking up calls from people wanting to rent boats and after hanging up he said really mean things about whoever was calling. NEVER STAYING HERE AGAIN! IF YOU WANT TO BE RESPECTED AS A CUSTOMER FIND ANOTHER PLACE WITH BETTER SERVICE. Bob and his daughter don't have any ethics or customer service training at all. I wish I spent my money throwing it into the lake than giving it to them. read more

My family and I have been traveling to the Lake George area for 40 years now. Not once in those 40 years have we encountered a man like, "Captain Bob." I decided this year to take the reigns and make the reservations for my father. I wanted something with a kitchen since now I have a 2 yr old son and I am actually 8 months pregnant again. Traveling with children is stressful enough and to put up with someone like Bob in your 8 month of pregnancy was absolutely ridiculous. My parents got there first and Bob gave them a problem right off the bat with showing my dad the penthouse before we paid the rest of the balance. He had our $400 deposit what is the big deal?? While they were waiting for us to arrive they ran into a man who docks his boat at Bob's. My father questioned him on how the resort was. The man explained how he just docks and stays a day or two but he knows Bob has an awful reputation in Lake George. We were short a room key and Bob assured us that he would drop off another one the next day. The next day we approached him about the key at about noon and he looked at us like we were nuts to even ask him for the key, in which we NEVER received. That night when we returned we started to BBQ at about 6-7 pm. My father got stung by 2 bees right on our deck. We nicely asked Bob to take care of the situation & he told us he won't get rid of the hive until after dark. He then told us he did not have a first aid kit for my dad but one of the woman he was laughing and joking w/ offered us a band aid. How can he not have a first aid kit??? When we rationally told him we wanted to BBQ and eat on our deck so we would like for him to take care of the hive now, he told us to move the BBQ ourselves through our penthouse and BBQ out our front door. At this point we had had it with Bob. My mother asked him how, to strap it to our backs? And at that moment he stormed at my mom like a raging bull. I honestly thought he was going to hit her. He ran around her and jumped on his golf cart, raced up to our penthouse, forcefully pushed open the front door (in which anyone could have been knocked out by if they were standing behind it), ran out the back door to the deck and dragged the BBQ through the penthouse like an animal with it already on. When he got outside he realized the tank was empty & to our surprise he stormed right off to replace it. On the 3rd day one bed collapsed and the last thing we were going to do was complain to Bob. We paid for everything and were guaranteed NOTHING and in turn got treated terribly by a nasty, awful person. We stayed completely clear and out of his way for duration of the vacation after this. We weren't going to let this horrible person ruin our family time together. It is a shame, the penthouses were clean and looked recently updated but I would have rather lost my deposit and take my money else where if I knew the type of people that reside at the Contessa. The original BOB I made the reservations with was in NO way this same person. Don't be fooled by whoever he has confirm the reservations. Now I know why he only accepts cash. He must make his money on newcomers every year and that is it b/c there is no way any person in their right mind would return there. DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT STAY AT THIS RESORT and do NOT believe a word of his dispute. read more
