This is one of the few stores left where you can actually walk in, talk to someone who knows what they're doing, and walk out with the best vacuum for your needs--or get yours serviced properly. I recently bought a vacuum from Amazon, and when I opened the box, it was clearly used. I had to send it back. I only have a very short review of this vacuum store in Acton because I've only spent five minutes in there. First off, they lie on their website about their hours of operation. My wife and I tried to go on a Sunday and buy a vacuum from them once and they were closed at about 2pm when they should have been open. So they lost my business and we went to Sears. Second, we went in their once to try and get the guy to order a belt for our vacuum when it broke. And basically the guy was just too lazy to help us out because we wasn't going to make any money off a $5 belt. Jerk. So please don't shop here. I hope they go out of business. read more

I took my 3-year old broken vacuum here hoping to get it repaired for less than the cost of buying a new one. I checked out Acton Vacuum's website first and was pleased to find exactly the information I needed: it would cost $30 for an assessment, which would be applied to the cost of any subsequent repair. Fair enough. When we arrived and began describing the problem, however, the owner very *honestly * volunteered that a burnt out motor isn't worth fixing because it would cost the same as buying a new vacuum. While this was sad news, I was happy to save the $30. He then took about 15 minutes to explain vacuum features that we should look for when selecting a new model, walking us around the store and demonstrating a removable roller brush and other apparently significant vacuum technology. This proved to be an extremely valuable free education and we left the store without spending a penny! We finally decided on a Miele, which I was able to again research on Acton's website, then call up and quickly pay for over the phone with my credit card while my wife went to pick it up in the store. The transaction was fast, easy, and hassle free! My floors have never been cleaner!! I love the vacuum, but what I REALLY loved was the customer service and education I got by shopping with this small, local, specialty shop. Worst experience ever! No customer service at all. Brought my vac in because brush stopped spinning. Before I even got the words out of my mouth the gentlemen told me it would be $49.99 non refundable deposit to even look at it. All I wanted to know was if it was worth repairing or biting for another vac especially at this time of year. He wouldn't even touch the vac for possible diagnosis! I left went to Ace Hardware told them my problem and they advised new belt. $4.99 later my vac is working fine with a little help from instructional you tube video for installation. I will be upgrading my vac first of the year but it will be anywhere else but here. read more

I was looking to purchase a new vacuum, and wanted to shop locally. A friend referred me to Acton Vacuum, and I must say that it was a very positive buying experience. I wanted to purchase a vacuum that would last me a long time. The owner that greeted me was very nice and courteous. He showed me a very nice Miele vacuum that I was instantly sold on. The price was initially hard to justify, but he gave me a deal I couldn't refuse. I was given a trade in allowance for my old vacuum, and a package of bags for my new vacuum. And the experience of dealing with the store owner one on one was so much better than having to shop elsewhere when having to deal with someone who has little to no experience. Buy your bags and belts online, since I was quoted $15 for a single rubber belt (online I found this same belt, 2 for $10 for a Dirtdevil upright - not a high end machine). When I asked how much it would be to replace it (labor) he said he couldn't tell me, with a dismissive wave he said he probably would find other things wrong, and in any case not less than $50. Time to get out my own screwdriver and put it on myself! Add this to the fact he had me stand around for at least 15 mins while he finished up what sounded like a personal call and it seems to me they really don't want the business that badly. I took my old Oreck vacuum here. At a glance, the man (owner) told me I needed a new bag ($45) plus $100 worth of other work. I said I'd hold off on the bag, but go ahead with the other work. When I picked it up, he said the vacuum was very old, the engine was squeaking, it could stop working any day, and that I shouldn't spend any more money on it. I asked him why he didn't simply stop work and CALL me once he realized it was a waste of money to repair. He claimed I had "insisted" on fixing the old thing--which I most certainly did not. SO--I paid the $100 and took my apparently-moribund vacuum with me. I will not be going back to these guys any time soon. I think they're mostly in business to sell Miele vacuums. read more

What lovely people. I went in looking for a lightbulb for my aging Bernina Sewing Machine and ended up talking to the owner who was the guy on the floor that day. They've been here, a family business, for a number of years and pride themselves on service and product knowledge, and it shows. He wasn't able to help me with the lightbulb since my machine isn't in current production, but he won me over on my future business. Don't bother taking your vacuum there for service. My experience was awful. I brought in my steam cleaner because it wasn't working properly, and I was told it would take 3-10 days to fix. They also required a $30 deposit for the service. After 10 days, I hadn't heard from them, so I gave them a call (on a Friday). They told me it wasn't ready because they had so many to fix, and it's a complicated task, they have to take it apart, etc... When I asked when it would be fixed, they told me by the following Monday or Tuesday. By the following Friday, I hadn't heard from them, so I just drove down there, got it back and got my $30 deposit refunded. What a waste of time. I brought it to Nashua Sew and Vac the same day. I am so disappointed with my experience and shouldn't have bothered after reading the other negative reviews! Since they were an authorized Beam dealer I thought I would call and give them a try (not too many to choose from) and after my first call I spoke to a very helpful and professional employee who spent a good deal of time discussing my issue and suggesting options and advice but said that I needed to speak to Ray the owner to get more specifics and that he was the expert.? The great employee suggested I definitely should call him when he would be there as to save me the trouble of a long drive..... Ok so I called Ray who was not only unhelpful but unprofessional and discouraged any interest in taking the drive out. First he did not know his information and called my model the "cheapy one" and suggested he didn't carry those and when I told him that the model was the top of the line 10 yrs ago and I was told still considered premium by others but nobody carries it since it was discontinued a few years ago (I was told by a better dealer that it is still considered one of the best and only 1 new better model was introduced since)...he went on to give other inaccurate info but the worst part was when I asked ?'s and his opinions he replied by telling me I could find all of it on the Internet or come in (so we need dealers why?) And best of all asked if I was interested in buying something or just ask questions and what my goal was....huh? Run dont walk until Ray learns the basics and some business skills or turns the biz over to his employee who could teach him a few things! read more

The salesman was flippant, showed us one model, didn't offer to let us test it, and, when we asked what other options we had besides the one he showed us, he shrugged and was less than helpful. He was on the phone in the back of the store when I got there, and my arrival was announced by a ringing bell on the door. It's a terrible shame that Acton Vacuum has zero interest in it's customers. They have a great selection and I have given them quite a bit of business over the years. I have purchased 2 Mieles there but the last few years the person working there is so unhelpful and condescending unless you are purchasing something new. I've never posted a negative review on yelp before and I am a loyal customer of many local businesses but honestly these guys are really horrible. They don't even pretend to care if you go elsewhere. Went to buy a replacement brush for a Dyson. I had found it online already for $15 and free shipping, but figured I'd buy local. Bandits wanted $40 for same exact thing. My husband came in and tried to get our Dyson fixed and Ray was nice enough to let him know that the year of our Dyson would be hard to get the part and fix at a reasonable price. He showed my husband several different models and recommended the Miele S7210. "We service all vacuum cleaners" is the sign on the door. Not true. They just say they do. The guy running the place can't be bothered to look at your product (even if it is new), has hours that are "flexible", does not answer the phone, the voice mail is outdated and, most importantly, he is very "unmotivated" to do the work. Am curious why he chooses to stay in business and not turn it over to someone who would like to provide a service to paying customers. There is a need for this kind of store, however, there is no need for someone who is not willing or interested in accommodating the customers. We had to drive to another store quite a distance away from us to get our vacuum fixed. but it was done by a very pleasant salesperson. 9/21/2013: Twice during the last year I made the mistake of walking into this place. The salesman who I believe is the owner is the most unprofessional salesperson I ever met. He is unprepared to sell and spews out misinformation left and right. He contradicts even himself in a span of 5 minutes. First he says yes, that item is included and then just a few minutes later he is saying "well that one is not included, it's a lower middle of the line model that it includes". So he contradicted himself AND it's nonsense because I know for a fact there are only two versions of the item. He won't demonstrate the product and has only half of it on display so it can't be seen. When asked he says the rest is probably still in the box and just stands there. This was a vacuum. A year ago I went in there to look at a dish washer. Don't get me started on that situation which was laughable. This guy carries high end stuff from Miele but he's giving worse service than walmart. I can only imagine what it would be like if I bought something there and then had an issue. Don't just skip the place, speed up when you are driving by, because I wouldn't trust this guy to even know my license plate number. You are better off taking your chances ordering from a stranger over the internet. Update 11/7/2013: We were looking at sebo, not miele. And the item you misinformed us on is the two versions of the parquet tool that are available for the sebo D4. One is the parquet tool and the other is the premium parquet tool. There is no middle one bundled with any model because it doesn't exist as anyone can find out from the sebo web site. You claimed that a middle model was in the box in the back and not on display. No offer to go get it to demonstrate it so we had no way to try the vacuum with the proper tool for hard floors which is half of our house. We would have bought the vacuum that day had the experience been better. We ended up buying the sebo d4 from another store a few days later. And by the way we purchased the miele dishwasher from another retailer (Baron's) after our first visit, so poor customer service lost two sales. I stand by everything I said and I think the rest of this retailers response speaks for itself. read more

I bought a Miele from the store a few years ago. The sales person was friendly and professional. I had 2 golden retrievers at the time so pet hair was an issue. He showed me several vacuums, told the pros and cons of each. I even tried them out. I decided on the miele even though he recommended another for dealing with the pet hair. I just preferred the quietness of the Miele. Service has always been great...not sure where these bad reviews are coming from. I went into the store today to get the plastic lever that you push in to release the attachment fixed. The sales associate at the store couldn't of been nicer. He greeted us in a friendly manner and took a look at what broke. He went out back to see if he had the part and had it fixed in about 3 minute. Our warranty expired however he didn't charge me. This store sells very high end products and backs them up. We have three Meile's for two large dogs, a cat and three kids. The first Meile is 16 years old and still runs. The second and third are each about 12 years old and we've never had a problem. The bags are expensive, be forewarned. BUT, these machines are well worth the cost since before we bought them we were buying cheaper machines that lasted less than two years. read more
