Sean was easy to work with. My truck's hood and top were looking pretty sunburnt and since it's in excellent mechanical condition and just looked worse for wear I decided to fix it up a bit by just having the sun damaged hood and top re-painted while leaving the rest as-is. I ran this idea to a couple other paint shops and their estimate was either astronomical or they simply refused to "fix up" and older vehicle. I went to Convoy Auto Body and spoke to Sean. He listened carefully to my idea and said no problem, which is all I wanted to hear. He quoted me a very fair price so I made an appointment. They had my truck for two weeks but when I got it back it looked much better than it did before (also all I wanted). The customer service and workmanship was excellent (this was a full sand down to bare metal, which is he proper way to do it), but only time will tell how well the clear cost holds up in the UV sunlight. My car had noticeable damage to my rear bumper and my trunk latch got pushed, which were all repaired within 2 weeks (due to insurance). I dropped off the car on feb 19th and picked it up on March 19th. Nearly a month to finish the car.. The overall quality is terrible. I would never recommend anyone to this body shop. I scheduled prior months ago, and it took them an entire month to actual work on it. You guys worked on the rear hatch and still do not take full responsibility. The worst part you asked me to pay additional when it's your fault for not doing the job properly in the first place. This would've never happened if the shop actually did their job correctly. Talk about scamming. They lie and do not cover the warranty. They're trying their best to avoid working on it and use low quality products such as paint and materials that aren't oem. Cutting cost is the main objective. The body panels don't even match up for the interior door panel and outside the fender area. Uneven paint on the hood, and they still didn't fix it. The paint is peeling right off, yet they blame me. Your paint job quality is terrible. Btw I brought this car back more than 6 times in the past because they forgot or did a poor job fixing. I can't even trust my own people to do the job right. Please stay away from this shop it's a headache to deal with. Btw they paid Google reviews to remove the real reviews on purpose. Even though I provided evidence on their craftsmanship. Very unhappy customer. Avoid at all cost! read more

Took car in for some body damage. Was told we needed two new doors. I knew where I could get them for very reasonable cost but Sam didn't want me to be involved for sake of liability. A few weeks passed and now he wants to know if I could get the doors. Too late, they were sold. It is now a month and a half and I still haven't heard anything about the car being repaired. Finally, he calls and tells me that I have to pay for the car and have it picked up that day otherwise I would be charged for storage! All of this after he's had the car for a month and a half. After doing my research of getting quotes all around San Diego for body work to repair a very long vertical dent on my '09 Scion tC, i decided to go with Convoy Auto Body because no one could beat their price. I was referred to them by a friend who had some major work done and he told me to ask for Sam. The quality of their work is immaculate and their service is genuine. Sam was honest with me and told me it was a big job to bend the quarter panel back and that a majority of the cost would be for paint. He roughly (and very generously) estimated it to be around a $700 job, which everywhere else quoted me well over $1000. The result was immaculate. The only flaw was that I had asked him to rub out a small scratch, which he forgot to do in the main job, but he told me to bring it back and he cleaned it up in less than 10 minutes. Sam also advised me on the best way to go out about dealing with an insurance claim and suggested they come to estimate the car, and I can decide then if I wanted to pay out of pocked or go through them. Overall, I'm really pleased with this small ma and pop shop and will gladly send my car back to have it repaired with Sam and his team! read more

This place used to be called Tap's Auto Care. They are horrible. Here is from a previous review that I wrote: About 1 1/2 yrs ago, we took it here to have brake work done. They did both the front and back brakes and replaced the shocks, all for about $1000. Although they were nice, they totally botched the job. We were hearing noises immediately after picking it up. They said that when we go down hills, we should use the gears to downshift (it's an automatic!), that the noise is from the way we were driving it. Yeah, right. That's why we never had any noise before the brake problems. Anyway, we didn't trust this so we took it to a dealership to check out. They told us that Convoy Auto Care didn't put the shim kits on, which are necessary when you use aftermarket pads. We took it back to Convoy Auto Care and they said they put the shim kit on. Well, ever since then, when we go down really steep hills like on Texas Street, we heard a grinding noise. We bought into downshifting and that seemed to help. 1 1/2 yrs later, we had constant noise from the front brakes. The dealership said there was no shim kit put on AND the front brakes needed to be re-did. I do not drive that much, maybe 12,000 miles a year. I feel the brake job should have lasted longer than that. They also said that it was BS that we should have to use the gears to brake. I figure it's only a matter of time before the back brakes and shocks need to be re-did. Even though I think they should re-do their work, I will not take it back there because I don't feel they know what they are doing. I would stay as far away from this place as possible. I also have a friend that took her car here because the seatbelt light stayed on. You know how they fixed it? They disconnected the warning light wire! Beware! read more

I wish there was a 0 rating for this place I took my car in here after an accident and it was suppose to take only ONE WEEK. ONE WEEK. Its been almost one month and I told them ill come get it last friday. I had no time to get it but they never ever checked up on me. This is ridiculous. Is there a way to rate this shop in the negative range? A -5 stars would do even though I'd like to give them at least a -10. I was recommended to another shop by a friend, but they were still waiting on their certificates. So, I called around and found this place. Worst decision I've ever made when dealing with auto repair shops. This place is one of the reasons why I love to work on my own cars. The guy in the office that answers the phones (forgot his name) was extremely nice. Wish I could say the same for their mechanic/manager Tony. My first visit didn't go so well. I brought my car in for the inspection, it failed due to the following: 1. Brake lines need to be secured using brackets 2. Passenger side license plate light inoperable 3. Rear center stop light inoperable 4. Passenger side headlight out of adjustment 5. Car pulls to the left when braking from 25 mph to 0 mph After spending $70 for the inspection (another $15 for the cert had I passed), Tony tells me that if I bring it back for a re-inspection within 3 business days, the fee would be waived and I will only need to pay for the cert. I took the car in on a Wednesday, so the third day would be Saturday. He was fully booked and said that he would give me till Monday. I decide to use the weekend to get everything ready for the re-inspection. I fixed everything and just needed an alignment for problem #5. Also, when I was replacing the bulb for problem #3, I noticed that someone had unplugged the wiring harness and tucked it out of sight??? When Tony started on my car, the first thing he did was take it on a "test" drive on his own. I'm wondering if he tampered with the harness during that time? I mean who else would have had access to it? Anyway, after all the repairs, I take it back to Tony and leave it there for 2+ hours. When I went to pick the car up at the end of the day he tells me that it still failed due to problems #4 and #5. I go back and forth with the guy and he tells me that I need to show him proof that the alignment shop did their job correctly. The other shop faxes over the results of my alignment and all of a sudden problem #5 is resolved (I thought he said the car was still pulling, how could a piece of paper fix this???). Then he asks if I have a receipt to the headlight adjustment. I didn't take it to a shop since he said it was just slightly low. I told him I adjusted it myself. Then he tells me they do headlight adjustments for $55 but he couldn't do it till the next day. Why didn't he bring this up before? I decide to take my car home since I was already starting to think that this guy was trying to pull a fast one on me. He starts to print out my paperwork and tells me it'll only be half price today since it was a re-inspection and would cost $49. First off, $49 is not half of $70. Second, he said it would be free. After a heated argument, he stated that I should just take the car to someone else. I did just that and it passed with no issues. I didn't make any changes at all from the last time I took it into this shop. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place...they know how to get your blood boiling! read more

I'm really happy with the service I got from Convoy Auto Body! My car got hit from behind and my back bumper/spoiler had some scratches, dents, and imprints from the collision. I went to 3 different places to get estimates and decided to go with Convoy Auto Body because they were the only place that didn't try to up-sell me (all the other places told me I had to get a whole new bumper even though it wasn't broken, just needed some cosmetic repair). Brandon was really friendly, helpful, and informative. He looked over the estimates I got from other places and explained what he thought was unnecessary work. Because the job would take 7+ days, I got a rental car from them. Everything was fine until the last day when the rental car started overheating. They were very apologetic and took care of everything from reimbursing me for my Lyft fees to picking me up from work! I was concerned about some of the older reviews on this page, but couldn't have been more pleased with the service and work that was done. 'Sam' was very helpful, courteous and keen to do a good job. Some dissatisfied customers must be referring to another auto repair show in the Kearny Mesa area that goes under a similar name. I have been taking my cars to Convoy Auto Repair for years and always, I state again, always received exceptional service at reasonable prices. A few years ago I was experiencing an electrical problem with my wife's car. They assigned a Certified Technician to work on this vehicle and each day, I received an up-date on the progress of identifying and correcting the problem. After three days, they advised me that I would have to take the car to the dealership as they do not have the manufacture's codes in able to make this repair. The total cost of three days labor was $0.00. Show me another auto repair service that would do this. I have never experienced any problem at this fine facility. Last year I purchased a new vehicle and I always take it to Convoy Auto Repair in lieu of the outrageously priced dealership where I purchased the car. Both of our cars consistently receive exceptional service at this fine facility. My family and I have been coming to Sam for 15 years. We really take for granted how lucky we are to have a car care center who you can trust absolutely. Convoy auto body consistently provides my family and I with not only the best car service, but the best service of any institution I know of. Sam is extremely generous and has a lot of integrity. Four years ago Sam sold me my first car, a Ford ZX2 with only 27,000 Miles on it for 3,000 dollars! 27,00 miles for 3,000! It's been the greatest value and he could have sold it for much more but I've been extremely grateful for that car. Three years ago when I was rear ended, my car was considered totaled because the repairs were supposed to cost more than the car was worth. The bumpers were messed up and the hood was bent. I was inadequately compensated by the insurance of the person that hit me, but Sam was able to make all the necessary repairs with less money than was estimated, so I ended up getting to keep the extra insurance money and got two new bumpers in the process. Thanks to Sam I actually profited of the accident. This week when someone knocked off my left rearview mirror, I took it to Sam. I also have some paint coming off the trunk and several other scratches around the car. Sam is taking care of all of it for a very reasonable price. This is why my brother who lives in Arizona still only get's his car serviced when he comes home to San Diego. Like I said, Sam has about as much integrity and pride in his work as anyone I've met in any business anywhere. Both times were for minor repairs, which I chose to handle cash instead of through my insurance company. I was worried I would get burned, especially because I don't know much about body work. Sam was really fair, the first time, he replaced and electric mirror on my work truck, and did it for what I thought was a very fair price. This week, I hit another car, and broke the other cars front turnsignal, housing, and lens. The owner of the other car wanted to fix it himself, so I only needed to buy the part. Sam charged me 50 bucks. 50 BUCKS. Who does anything for a car for 50 bucks. I took my 07 Altima in for body work and was thoroughly impressed with Convoy Auto Body. I dealt mostly with Sam, the owner, and the customer service I received was top notch.
