    New York cheesecake
    Christen M.

Love this Cook Out location. Decided to go for a midnight snack and try their New York cheesecake - with cherry topping for me. I was surprised at how good it is and how generous their portion is. The cheesecake is $1.99 for a slice and it's every bit as good as the New York cheesecake I've had over at Southern Pecan in SouthPark or other high-end places. Tastes like a true New York cheesecake. Next time I dine out and have a yen for some good New York cheesecake afterwards, I'll just swing by Cook Out.

I ordered a JR tray with a small cheeseburger and fries & it hit the SPOT. The fries were so soft, but not soggy and the burger was cooked fine. Also, highly recommend the hush puppies. The staff was friendly, however ordering took a bit but once you get to the window the food is fast! Overall, it's good fast food for cheap- you get what you pay for here. will be back & picky eater approved

We had 3 orders. Order was not correct after repeating it 3 times. Food looks old & was hard. We did not get a receipt.

This new Cookout off South Tryon has fried okra!!! This is the first time I've seen okra at a cookout. The okra was delicious. However I was alarmed when I was told they charge extra for the different type of toppings on the burgers and chicken sandwiches for the cookout trays. And then a few items in our order weren't made correctly. Why pay extra when you don't get the correct things. Next time I will check everything before we leave. Burnt hush puppies

The food and service were both highly dissatisfying. The staff was rude. They rushed us through our order. hush puppies were burnt and the fries weren't cooked all the way, [[HIGHLIGHT]]the cheer wine was out of flavor and flat.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Order

Whenever I am in the Charlotte city limits it is a must that I find a Cookout. I love cookout and although I've moved away, it is still a staple. This location is pretty new. The staff was super fast and friendly. My food was hot and made to order. The line wasn't long and I'm glad they have the two drive in lanes. The menu has upgraded a bit since I last was there here but I stick with my favorite tray. I ordered two hot dogs, onion rings, and hush puppies. Of course I washed it down with a huge tea! Delicious as always!

The rings are what I wanted wish I got some and 3 nuggets? What's going on? I'll be back yet y'all got to do better!

This staff at this particular location sucks. Service is extremely slow. They don't care here at all. You can tell everyone hates it here.

love the bugers and okra and rings, fries can be a little soft and that's as they hand the carry out plate to me so fries are hit and miss.

Sometimes simple of the way to go. Lettuce, American Cheese, tomatoes, crinkled pickles, onions, and their "good good sauce." This all came together with the 100% premium angus beef (antibiotic and hormone free) smash-burgers perfectly cooked. The fried were very good, nicely crispy, but not overdone. Service was friendly and very quick. I highly recommend this place if you want a great burger.

Optimist Hall itself is a very food-centric, upscale food hall with a ton of vendors, so the atmosphere is energetic and fun. Seating can be a little challenging during peak dinner hours since so many people are grabbing food from different spots, but when the weather is nice there's plenty of outdoor seating. Harriet's keeps their burger formula refreshingly simple. It's a classic smash burger done right--made to order with a straightforward menu that doesn't overcomplicate things. There's usually a line, but it moves pretty quickly, and the burgers come out hot and fresh. One of the best parts of eating here is the flexibility of the food hall experience. While you're waiting, you can grab a craft beer, a glass of wine, or even browse for dessert from one of the other vendors. Insider tip: Come with a group if you can. It's a great place to share fries and let everyone explore different vendors around the hall. Parking is fairly easy with the nearby garage, which makes the whole experience even more convenient. Overall, Harriet's is a fun, delicious stop for a smash burger, especially if you're already enjoying the energy of Optimist Hall.

As a West Coast transplant now living in Charlotte, I have very specific standards when it comes to…read moreburgers. For me, the gold standard isn't fancy -- it's balance. Think that perfect meat-cheese-bread ratio you get at an In-N-Out: not too big, not too messy, not dripping everywhere, but still juicy and satisfying. A burger you can actually pick up and enjoy without resorting to a knife and fork like George Costanza. That's why I appreciate Ace No. 3. Their menu is refreshingly simple -- burgers, fries, shakes -- and that simplicity tells me they know exactly what they do well. Everything is made to order, and the consistency shows. The Ace burger is my go-to, and it delivers every time. The shoestring fries are excellent, and the sweet potato tots are another favorite. I've also treated myself to a milkshake here and there, and they're worth it. Fun bonus: they offer "boozy shakes" for adults, which adds a playful twist -- just note they have to be enjoyed on site. They also keep a short, rotating list of beers, which I appreciate. It's curated, not overwhelming. One thing I noticed recently -- and as a fellow marketer, I have to applaud this -- is their milkshake happy hour from 2-4 PM. That's a smart strategy to drive traffic during slower hours between lunch and dinner. Simple, effective, and well executed. A few practical notes: Parking can be a little tight because the lot behind the restaurant is small, but if you go during off-peak hours or order ahead for pickup, it's manageable. The Belmont neighborhood location is easy to get in and out of, and while it's not a high-traffic pedestrian area, that can actually work in your favor. Bottom line: As someone who grew up with West Coast burger culture, this is the closest I've found in Charlotte to that classic, satisfying bite -- even if it costs a bit more than In-N-Out. The quality and execution make it worth it. Get out there, eat well, be curious -- and follow me as I continue eating my way through Charlotte.
