    Onion rings and hush puppies

Cooking up some traditional all American fatty foods. Had to try this southern staple. Went with some classics; chili cheese dog, cheeseburger, onion rings, mini corn dogs, hush puppies, and cheese fries. Full transparency, not great quality so keep your expectations realistic here lol. The chili dog was decent. Overall I felt my belly certainly cooked out. Have fun

Stopped by Cook Out and ordered two hot dog trays with chili, a side of fries, a quesadilla, and a sweet tea. Everything was delicious, to be honest. The hot dogs really hit the spot--I was craving one for some reason, and they did not disappoint. The fries were crispy, the quesadilla was solid, and the sweet tea was just right. Definitely a satisfying meal!

I stopped by for a quick bite to eat for lunch on Tuesday, 12-7-21. They have the best barbecue sandwiches. There was a line, but I didn't have to wait too long. My only takeaway: there was a hole at the bottom corner of my bag. Wondering if bags are packaged in something that's opened with a box cutter. It wasn't a problem with my order. Someone with a larger order may have a bag that's torn apart easily with more weight.

Stop in here to get burgers for the family. I'm not the one who usually orders it's one of my daughters. So while I was trying to order I was getting corrected and yall at by the person taking my order (Nylazha) I think I piss him off so for that reason he charged me for eight bottles of water that I didn't order but I didn't realize this until we got home here are the receipts that were attached to our food trays. So there's on my list of not to spend money there ever again. Oh forgot we did not receive the bottles of water either just charged for them

Review for Shake Shack…read more This review is for Shake Shack in the South End, and the first thing to know is that parking can be very difficult. It's a busy, walkable section of the neighborhood surrounded by apartment complexes, shops, and plenty of foot traffic. You've got places like Jeni's Ice Cream, coffee spots, and other eateries nearby, so it's definitely a lively area--but not the easiest if you're driving in. I received a special solicitation and promo to use the app for 20% off, which was a nice perk. I do like Shake Shack. It's trendy for the smash burger, and when it's done right, it really is a solid bite with a near-perfect ratio of meat to bun. For this visit, I ordered a double ShackBurger with mayonnaise, lettuce, pickle, and onion, with the sauce requested on the side. Unfortunately, the sauce didn't come on the side as requested. I also ordered a strawberry shake, which was about $5. Here's the honest take: * The burger itself was good, filling, and satisfying * However, the meat was not as crispy as I remembered * The shake was just okay--it lacked strong strawberry flavor and richness * The quality felt a bit diminished after taking the food home That last point matters. Smash burgers really depend on timing. I took the food home, which was about a 10-minute trip, and by then the texture had changed. The nuances that make a smash burger special--crisp edges, heat, balance--just weren't the same anymore. Next time, I'll definitely eat it there on-site. That's where the experience really shines. A few practical notes: * A double burger runs roughly $9-$10, so it's not cheap, but it is filling * Check the app for promos--they can make a noticeable difference * If something tastes off (like the shake), it's best to address it while you're still there Personally, I prefer a burger that isn't too wet, so pickle, lettuce, and onion work well for me. I'm particular about tomatoes--I only like Roma tomatoes, not beefsteak--so I usually skip them altogether. Bottom line: Shake Shack is still a reliable burger, but timing and location matter. Eat it fresh, eat it there, and you'll get the experience they're known for. Get out there. Explore. Eat well.

It is so nice having Shake Shack in Charlotte now. The food was for was delicious and tasted exactly how I know it should. Mac's sits in the heart of South End and shares the neighborhood with several busy bars and nightlife spots. Parking can be a bit of an adventure, but they do have dedicated lots nearby. Once you're there, the setup is great: a large dining room, plenty of picnic-table patio seating, and my favorite option--a seat at the outdoor bar where the inside bar opens through a service window to the patio. The bartender, Alyssa, was fantastic. Friendly, knowledgeable, and patient while I stared at the giant menu trying to figure out what I wanted. When I asked for recommendations, she immediately suggested the burnt ends, BBQ baked beans, and Mexican street corn. Excellent call. The blackberry seasonal hard cider she recommended was delicious and paired beautifully with the meal. My only surprise was the price. At nearly $9, it was more than I expected for a cider, and I wish I had asked beforehand. The burnt ends arrived with bright pickled red onions that added the perfect acidic balance. The flavor was excellent--smoky, rich, and satisfying. That said, they leaned heavily toward the fatty side. The deeper I got into the serving, the more rendered fat I encountered compared to meat. Delicious? Yes. Light? Absolutely not. The BBQ baked beans were exactly what you want from a barbecue joint. The Mexican street corn was a standout and a refreshing contrast to all the richness. My only critique was that the burnt ends weren't served quite as hot as I would have liked, and by the end of the meal, the richness became overwhelming. That's probably more on me for ordering burnt ends at 9 p.m. than on Mac's. The final bill came to about $37 before tip, which felt a little steep for a solo barbecue dinner and cider. Looking back, I'd probably visit during lunch. Their weekday lunch specials around $10 look like one of the best values in South End. Would I come back? Absolutely. The service was warm, the recommendations were spot on, the atmosphere was relaxed, and the food delivered exactly what a barbecue craving calls for. Next time, I'll arrive earlier, bring a bigger appetite, and maybe save the burnt ends for lunchtime. Life is too short not to eat well, Charlotte. If you're exploring South End and craving barbecue, Mac's Speed Shop is worth a stop.

Then... the wheels fell off. Second chicken breast had clearly been sitting and cooking too long, and quickly became the dog's dinner. I probably got 2.5oz of good meat off that one, but truly a waste. And, c'mon, we don't have fresh tots coming at us? Mushier more than crunchier, and that was probably good as I shouldn't be eating those anyway. C'mon, Mac's ... you've got greatness in you! Bring it to life!

My go-to has always been the Crunchy Taco Supreme, and this visit was no exception. They were hot, fresh, and exactly what I expected--simple, satisfying comfort food. I also decided to try the mini taco salad, and it was the perfect bite. The crispy shell held warm beans, seasoned meat, cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes, and with a little Fire sauce, it checked all the boxes. It didn't overfill me--just enough to take the edge off hunger. I typically skip the beverages here since I try to avoid high-fructose syrups, but the food itself hit the mark. Everything was hot where it should be and cool where it should be, which is always a good sign of proper preparation. My only small wish: a touch of sour cream or fresh avocado would take the mini taco salad to the next level--but for fast, nostalgic comfort food, it absolutely delivered. The drive-through was clean, the order-taker was friendly and professional, and my food came out quickly and accurately. Reliable, fast, and consistent--sometimes that's exactly what you need. That chicken sandwich was so flavorful. It wasn't too crunchy as well. I despise crunchy chicken like I'm eating on chips and this was far from that. The chicken tenders were very good as well, no complaints. They have a homemade lemonade, nothing to scream about but it was good. The reason for a 4 out of 5, is because of their ranch. I felt like it was freshly handmade but it just had a different taste to it. It wasn't hidden valley lol or wing stop type of ranch.
