Worth the wait? Not sure. Better than McDonald's. 15 minutes in a drive thru is ridiculous

Honestly, I never do reviews and I never try new places to eat but in central pa we don't have these Cookout businesses to get fast food. Honestly it's great!! I would ditch McDonald's in the blink of an eye if we had one of these places around where I live. The food is awesome, my blueberry shake tastes awesome and the prices are ridiculously low. The most expensive thing on the menu is $5 and that's for a meal that will definitely fill the average person up. I just went to Cook out and ordered 3 milkshakes. You would think that would be simple enough, but it took 45 minutes. When I finally went up to the counter to get my milkshake, the man didn't apologize and handed me 3 melted milkshakes. The man that was making the milkshakes wasn't wearing a hair net or gloves. I watched him personally touch the oreos and banana before it went into the shakes. I am very disgusted, frustrated, and annoyed. It should not take almost an hour to get melted, contaminated milkshake. I am a loyal customer to Cook Out, but not anymore. read more

We had heard of this chain but never tried it so decided to stop in while passing through on a trip. Very disappointed. I had the out west style burger. was almost burned and very dry. fries were dry, like they had been cooked much earlier in the day and then placed somewhere to stay warm. hush puppies were good and prices are decent thus the 2 stars. but won't be trying again. read more

On the evening of 9/11/18 I stopped into the Cook Out on Plank Road for a sandwich and a side of cole slaw. I had been eating there once a week or so at the time. I asked for a cup for water with my meal and was told I would have to pay 50 cents for it. I questioned the cashier and he said that they had started charging for water after darkness because people were coming in and just asking for cups. I balked and reminded him that I was there to eat food. He deleted the charge. When I got home I called Cook Out's customer line to complain. I was told that the district manager would contact me within 48 hours. By the following Thursday (9/16) I had not heard from anyone, so I sent email about the matter via the Cook Out website, then I called a second time. I was told that someone would get back with me about the matter, but no one ever did. So, on 9/24/18 I wrote a letter which I forwarded by U.S. mail to Jeremy Reeves, Cook Out CEO. I complained about two things: 1. charging a paying customer for a cup; and, 2. pathetic customer service based on the two phone calls and one email I had sent the company earlier in the month. It is now February 2019, and thus far neither Mr. Reeves nor anyone else from Cook Out has seen fit to respond to my concerns. I have not done business with the company since 9/11/18 and won't do so again unless my concerns are addressed by them (and of course I don't believe at this point that they ever will be). I reminded Mr. Reeves in my letter that there is plenty of competition in the fast food industry, and that there is a McDonald's and a Wendy's within about a quarter mile of Cook Out's Plank Road store. I've never been in a McDonald's or Wendy's where I was asked to pay for a cup for water to drink with a meal. No restaurant, fast food or otherwise, should be charging food-ordering customers for water in my opinion, unless the customer asks for name-brand, commercially-bottled water. As I indicated at the start of this review, the incident happened five months ago now and I guess it's possible that my complaint did lead to a change in their policy, but I also guess I'll never know because I decided I wouldn't do business with them since they didn't have the courtesy to respond to my complaint. As for the food, it's so-so -- about what I'd expect at a fast food restaurant. I gave them a one-star rating based on their pathetic customer service at the corporate level. read more

I was pleasantly surprised. A $4.99 combo meal (Burger, fries, slaw and fountain drink) is probably one of the best deals in town. The burger was much better (and cheaper) than what I had just last week down the road at Burger King. The place was close to being packed to capacity, but service was quick and friendly. Clutch food for a clutch deal. Can't ask for much more. They provide when you need it. Quesadillas and milkshakes are good. Pretty quick service. read more

One of the best burgers in town! Great value for meals, $5 gets you a main item, two sides and a drink. Regular bacon cheese burger with everything on it, yum. And they are open late. If you haven't, you should try it. You will find something you like, there is so much to chose from. read more

This is just the weirdest place! The food is pretty good, but not a vegetable in sight (unless you count French fries). Where else can you get a fried whatever sandwich with a side of corn dog and a cheese quesadilla?!?! I'm only giving this place three stars because I do like their shakes. read more

I can't believe anyone would give this place even 1 star. I ordered a big double burger out west style, it is supposed to have bbq sauce, bacon, onions, and pickles. I received a double burger with bacon, no bbq and no onions. Their big double burger is about the size of a kids burger anywhere else. The patties were so small it took 2 of them to cover the bun. Their burgers are absolutely flavorless, even with the bacon all I could taste was the bun. On top of that they can't help but over cook them since they are so small. I got it with 2 sides, I ordered onion rings and Cole slaw. I only got 4 onion rings and the Cole slaw had no flavor whatsoever. If I could I would give this dump negative 10 stars. Normally I have good experiences at the Plank Road Cook Out restaurant, but lately I haven't been pleased. The last time I visited there was a lot of horseplay going on (at the drive-thru window). The saving grace was at least they got the order right. Not the case on this recent visit. Not only was there jester but the order was incorrect. A portion of it was corrected at the window but I didn't realize the one of the shake flavorings was incorrect until I arrived home. I wasn't going to get back on the road and drive miles just to have it replaced. I will remember to check before I leave next time. But more importantly, employees need to be better trained. I know that most of them are young, but this is the best time to train them on appropriate work behavior. And it wouldn't hurt to ensure they can transact money beyond what the register indicates. Not everyone is honest. I tried to phone the restaurant about my issues, but no one answered, so maybe Corporate can address it with management. read more

place is way too noisy to enjoy your food or listen to your dining partner !!! felt like trying to eat in a barnyard !!!

Thought we must be missing out on something really good so decided to give it a try (since there is always a long line inside and out)-we were wrong! Cashier would NOT make eye contact while we were ordering-VERY rude! Are you even listening? Told they were out of regular burgers so we got doubles. I requested no bun (gluten free). Of course they gave me a bun so had to go exchange and cashier was nasty-gave my husband a hard time requesting receipt even though he was carrying the burger in his hand! My daughter's chicken nuggets were mystery meat even though menu said all white meat. Other daughter didn't like her burger either. My 2 patties were less than a 1/2" thick combined and were incinerated to the point of being crunchy all the way through. Meat was like mystery meat and extremely salty. Coleslaw was bland and fries were so-so. The shakes were the only decent thing we ordered. Would prefer Five Guys anytime. You get what you pay for. do not eat here. my sister got food poisoning from this dump. use to love this place cause its cheap. but cheap is not good and good is not cheap. also earlier this week someone found a bug/roach on the burger after unwrapping it. I gave it 1 star cause it wouldn't let me take a star away. read more
