As a longtime Cookout fan who first discovered the chain during late night college runs in North Carolina, I always make a point to stop by whenever I'm near one of their northernmost locations in Fredericksburg, VA. Over the years, Cookout has come a long way from the plain white Styrofoam trays to the new branded paper boxes with vent holes, which do a great job of keeping fried foods crispy and fresh. I've dined inside this location about half a dozen times and have always had a great experience. The restaurant is consistently clean, the staff are friendly, and service is quick. My go to order is the Cookout Tray with a big double burger prepared Cookout Style, which means Carolina chili, slaw, cheese, and raw onions. I usually get fries and onion rings as my sides. Even though the tray used to be $3.99 back in my college days, the current price of $6.99 still feels like a great value considering the portion size and quality. On my most recent visit, I was extra hungry and decided to try a second mini tray for $5.99. I went with two corndogs as the main and added cheese bites and hush puppies as sides, plus a Snickers milkshake to top it off. Everything came out hot, fresh, and exactly how I remember it. The milkshake was thick and creamy, just the way it should be, and I was absolutely stuffed by the end. Cookout's big double burgers, whether you get them Cookout Style or Cheddar Style with grilled onions, cheese sauce, and bacon, are easily some of the best fast food burgers for the price. Between the generous portions, variety of options, and late night hours (many locations stay open until 3 a.m.), Cookout continues to deliver on both taste and value. Overall, this Fredericksburg location has never disappointed me and remains one of my favorite stops when I'm craving a classic Cookout meal.
