I have been wanting to try Cookout for a long time. My bf and I went to the one by Target to try the hamburger. The guy taking the order was a bit weird and not very nice or helpful. I got the hamburger and fries. The fries were cold and soggy. I could not believe the very small piece of meat that was the burger, ridiculously small. The only thing that was good was the shake. Well, this is another one of my late night eating lol. I really meant to leave earlier to get food but I was focused on trying to get some work done. I arrived Arlington 2:40am on a Sunday night when I should be sleeping. I got my usual big double burger cookout tray. My burger has bacon, cheese, and ketchup. My normal sides were hushpuppies and fries. However, they only had a limited menu because they were close to closing. I really wanted hushpuppies, ugh. I got a sweet tea to drink. When I got my food, there was only fries and no nuggets, lol. As I was driving away, I realized that I was never told a total and there was no receipt on my box. I checked my card and I was charged $9.44... wtf? Moving forward, I know not to go within 30 minutes of them closing. A cookout burger, fries, and drink is def not worth $10. Their prices keep creeping up. My fries were a decent temperature. I ate most of them on my way home. My burger was eh. It tasted subpar from what I'm use to receiving. The Cook Out Way hot dog was satisfying enough, but not something I'll crave or run back to any time soon. The fries were super good...hot, crispy on the outside and creamy smooth a flavorful on the inside. BUT the chicken "nuggets" --- OMG they should be ashamed. They may have waved some chicken over whatever's inside those, but there's no chicken in there. It had the texture of a soft sponge and I couldn't even finish one "nugget". This particular location has really gone downhill lately. There has always been a bit of inconsistency here with both the quality of food and the service, and getting out of the tiny, winding, cramped drive thru area on to Battleground is always daunting. But that bit of inconsistency has turned into a consistently mediocre experience, with the exception of the milk shakes, which remain excellent. The speaker on the drive thru area to the right as you enter is awful - you simply can not hear what they're saying, finally had to drive up to the serving window to place an order. The Hershey's Chocolate milk Shake was awesome, but everything else was just terrible. The burger was burnt to a hard char on one side, resulting in a gritty, bitter taste. The hot dog chili was also over cooked, close to burnt, and the onions were left off. The fries were under cooked resulting in them being limp and tasteless. Not much to say, great fast food and super cheap. Superior milkshakes. The best meal combo deal probably on the east coast. You'll find all these things at pretty much any Cook-Out location, this one is not an exception to that. However, this places loses one star because of the terrifying ordeal of getting into and out of it. It is crammed into a corner on a very busy section of battleground, and the exit "bump" is extremely uneven, so if you make a hasty exit, you'll get bounced around like a ping pong ball in a blender. If you have a standard coupe or sedan, you're likely to scrap your undercarriage, which is always just a good time. Need to turn left? Fuhgettaboutit. Turn right and turn around at the next light. The best way to "do" this location really, is to pull your car onto the side of the side street you enter the drive thru on, and just walk up to the window in front. You'll probably get through faster, and you'll be in a better spot to get out. read more

Cook Out is good for their burgers & shakes (but not all shakes (flavors) are created equal). If you want a good burger & don't want to pay fancy prices at Hops or Five Guys, then CO will resolve the fix. If you're fiending for a milkshake, CO is definitely the spot to cop it, but some flavors aren't as strong or yummy as others. I prefer Oreo, Peanut Butter Banana, or Cappuccino. I've never tried the hot dogs, because we all know that hot dogs are one of the grossest, processed foods. For me, the nuggets, onion rings, and other items besides the chicken sandwich (also I haven't tried) are sub par in the satiability of "eating out," but, otherwise, CO is a legit burger & shake joint. I was not a huge fan of this place as a whole. First it is a small and cramped drive thru and very difficult to drive around. Second, the place was filthy and there were a variety of wrappers thrown on the ground as well as plastic utensils, one of which went flying at our windshield when we ran over one (we couldn't avoid it). The customer service here was also poor. While that probably had to do with the fact that there were only two people present, there was a long wait for me and my friend to get our milkshakes when we drove up to pay. I suspect that they placed preference on the teenagers who walked up to get their food at the walk up. As for the food, i have not tried their burgers yet, but I plan on doing so later. However I got a hot dog with cheddar on it, onion rings, and a vanilla milkshake. The quality of the hot dog was pretty poor, barely edible, even with the char. Not worth the money regardless of how cheap it was. The cheese was even worse. It didn't taste like cheddar cheese or really any type of cheese at all. The taste resembled plastic more than cheese. I was expecting it to solidify to tell you the truth. The onion rings were basically greasy batter. Not my idea of a good onion ring. However, the milkshake was pretty good, which was this places saving grace. I tried the vanilla and later, a peach. They were excellent, and I would highly recommend a stop here only for them. I would only recommend this for a late night crowd who need a quick and cheap hangover fix. Anybody else should stay away from it unless you are looking for a decent milkshake. read more
