The milkshakes are the only decent thing on the menu. This place has the novel idea of offering items like corn dogs, chicken nuggets, and quesadillas as side items. The only problem is that the food is terrible. I mean worse than school cafeteria bad. The beef on the burger was burnt so badly that I could have bounced it off the table. I've made better chicken nuggets in my toaster oven at home. The food is dirt cheap, but I'd rather go to McDonalds or Wendy's and order from the value menu. The place looks like a log cabin from the inside and has a nice outdoorsy feel to it. They even have picnic styled benches to sit on inside. The prices is ridiculously cheap. And what you get with that is worth every bit. It's not gourmet, but it's still delicious. You do get what you pay for. So don't expect too much. The burgers do really taste like they are from someone's back yard, and that's obviously the appeal. However, I don't think that alone makes them great, I liked it, but would have to be in the mood for it. Home grilled burgers can have great char, and flavor, but a tough texture, and they nailed all of those aspects. Lots of people I know were excited to try the new fast food place in town, myself included. Most people I know were not impressed, myself included. I went slightly after dinner rush and, even though the line was all the way to the door, it moved along very quickly. The girls at the counter were friendly. Unfortunately, there were no available seats outside, so we were stuck eating in the small VERY NOISY dining room. The person shouting order numbers only added to the cacophony. If you order the Tray (combo meal), you get an entree, two sides, and a drink. I ordered the Big Double with onion rings and cole slaw. Big is not a word that should be used to describe this burger. The patties are wafer thin (think McDonald's regular hamburger). While it did taste like it was cooked on a charcoal grill (hence the name Cook Out), the burger didn't have much going for it. It was dry and totally nothing special. My "sides" consisted of 3 onion rings (yes, three!!!) and a container of coleslaw that was slightly larger than a condiment cup. In my opinion, this place only has 3 things going for it. They are cheap, quick, and they have Cheerwine soda on tap. If you want a burger, you're better off going next door to Wendy's. read more

I said at the restaurant "this is the worst customer service I've ever experienced". I'm glad to know I'm not the only one after reading these reviews. We got 2 shakes. One came out though it wasn't stated which one and both were similar. Another shake came out and the girl said "I don't know the order number." I asked her what the shake was and she got an attitude while not answering the question. I asked her again as someone else was waiting on a shake as well behind us. Well, it wasn't mine. I did get my shake a couple minutes later and there was ice cream going all down the side of it. On top of that, later when we got home we found there was a hole in the cup. I'm not sure whether or not it was intentional, but all I wanted to know was if that was my milkshake or not. I think that doesn't warrant an attitude. However, both milkshakes were fine. I'm a fan predominantly for their milkshakes. OMG are they good. I mean, they are GOOD!!! Also, try the Cheerwine. It's a deep south drink from the Nashville area that makes me nostalgic. Okay, the burgers are really good, just like handmade burgers should be. The milkshakes are too thick to drink while driving, so they're really more dessert than beverage. Good flavor, just really, really thick. Twice I've asked for a quesadilla with my order and twice it's been wrong. One time, not included in the order though I was charged for it, and once my chicken quesadilla did not include chicken. So, I won't try to order one of those again since it seems to flummox them. We get to the front to order and the girl at the counter says "it's gonna be a while" before we even put in our order (which was going to be just two milkshakes!) Really? It was late and there were limited options, so thought I'd give this place a chance. I usually gauge a place by its burger, if you can't do that right, the other stuff is probably not worth trying. So this is a review of their regular hamburger with lettuce and tomato.The bun looked the same as the cheapo, supermarket brand small ones. The patty was sized to match and maybe twice the thickness of a McDonald's regular hamburger. It was wrap in foil, a homey touch, but unfortunately an example of bad home cooking. The problem was that it was super dry, as if it's been sitting around the whole day, had to drench it in ketchup to make it somewhat edible. Actually I've made burgers at home, refrigerated it and reheated it later and they were many times better. For $3.23 it not cheap either, three McD cheeseburgers or a Chick-Fil-A sandwich would have been much better. On the bag, it has a 800# to call if not 100% satisfied. Tried it multiple times and it's always busy, so either it's overwhelmed by the shear number of dissatisfied customers or perhaps a sign they're not serious about customer service. read more

Cook out has delicious food and the most horrible customer service in town. We waited inside for 30 minutes for our food. The customers at the drive thru received food immediately. There were about 9 people waiting for their orders. Staff was lost. Front staff replied we take orders we don't cook the food. The floor in front of the drink machine had pools if water. People had to hold up receipts so staff could figure out what was needed. Next time the drive thru! read more

I go to this cookout all the time and my expirience has always been pleasant. Tonight,however, I was very dissatisfied with the service. The cashier's name was Taylor. She rang in my order weong when I gave it to her and handed me the wrong order when I arrived at the drive thru window. We decided to take a trip to cookout to get some legendary milkshakes. When we got there one of us went up to the counter and they just stared at us then said "look alive" to us (not ok). After we all ordered, we went to the side and waited for the milkshakes. I was excited to try a restaurant chain I'm not familiar with on vacation. This left much to be desired. First employees would have rather been doing anything else than take our order/ $. When I placed my $ on the counter I guess I put it in the wrong spot for the employee to reach (there was so much clutter I wasn't sure where to place it) I got an attitude tongue click & a sigh. The employees were all hanging out with each other/ friends that came to visit BEHIND THE COUNTER. The restaurant wasn't busy & EVERY table was obviously dirty. Our order took forever in terms of "fast food". We ordered a cookout style burger, HOT Spicy Chicken sandwich HOT, & Cajun fries. The burger was surprisingly small but tasty. The "HOT" Chicken sandwich looked good but that was it. The texture was like a thin slice of meat between 2 pieces of cardboard, & I'm not sure if the HOT meant temp because there was no flavor anywhere near a spice. Our fries were also cold & hard. I am only giving this place 2 stars because the soda fountain has Cheer wine. read more

The worst customer service I have ever experienced. I get their food quite frequently and the drive-thru staff has always been un-friendly every time I've been there. They rush me through my order, never smile or say "Hi" or "Have a nice day." They ignore the drive-thru customers all together and 5 times out of 10, they have always forgotten something I have already paid for. On top of all of that, I have heard them verbally complaining inside about their work loud enough for me to hear. All of them are generally young employees who have obviously not learned what friendly good customer service is. If they hate their job so much, maybe finding a different one is best. The inside of the restaurant is disgusting. They never wipe off their tables, always forget to restock their condiment station and forget to refill their soda machine. Not to mention, I have never once seen a manager on site. Cook Out has great food, but BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE. I'm scared to even think of how gross the kitchen looks. read more
