I went on a food run in to High Point since I'd not been there in a while. Back in the day, my late wife and I would pick out a spot to go to several restaurants and try the food, some were new to us, some were revisits. These trips often centered on NC BBQ, Burgers, Hot Dogs, Fried Chicken, and Fried Seafood, and sometimes a local specialty or two - think Liver Pudding in Shelby, Sonker Festival in Mt Airy, Soft Shell Crab in May on the OBX, Eastern NC BBQ and Collards in Ayden, Pork Chop Sandwich at Snappy Lunch in Mt Airy, and more. I don't do these kinds of food runs as often now, nor do I range as far afield, but there is much with in 100 miles that offers a nice adventure. On this 2 day run into High Point/Thomasville I was interested in burgers and hot dogs primarily, some new spots, some old friends! I intended to visit the Dairi-os in High Point and Thomasville, the Cook Out in High Point, Oscar's Fine Food, The Dog House, and Tucker's Grill. I also intended to pick one from Curry & Spice, Island Fest, or Sixty Six Grill in Thomasville. This was my first stop here and I ordered the Big Double with Cheese, Lettuce, and Tomato, but no Mayo. I don't care for the mayo here, it is very thin, and runs everywhere. I add Duke's mayo from a small packet, then add salt and pepper, and I'm good to go. This was a very, very good cheeseburger once adjusted, and the tomato (which you'll pay extra for, as well as the slice of cheese). The total with the tomato and cheese was $4.59, still a bit of a bargain in today's market place. The slice of tomato was huge and delicious. They make the best shakes. My favorite is the banana pudding. I had made up my mind to try the peanut butter banana shake but my mouth did not agree with my decision and blurted the banana pudding out the other day. Well, at least I attempted to try something different. Their onion rings and sauce is the best. My family is definitely a Cook Out fan. Their trays are inexpensive too. Why are the night employees so rude and never charge the same thing twice. Three days in a row at 730 pm on my way home I ordered okra and a huge ice water. First day 2.18 second day 2.35 third day 3.25. I asked the girl on the outside drive up window why so much. She said I said it is 3.25 and that is what it is. I said it's not right and I told her to keep it. She slammed the window in my face before I could ask for a manager. I don't need to pay for a rude person to talk to me. I generally go to the Thomasville location because they always seem to have the best tasting food, but the couple times that I've gone to the Archdale location haven't gone well. They repeat my order back to me but it's never right when I open it up. Tonight I went and we all ordered Cheerwine. We get to the window and she tells us they are out of Cheerwine so we get something else. I had to walk back up to the window to ask for ketchup and to get the correct food because the food wasn't right as per usual and I saw a bottle of Cheerwine on the floor. I asked about it and they seemed confused as to why someone told me they were out of Cheerwine. So the lady opened the bottle and gave me some. Please consider the source for the 1-star review. They obviously had 1 bad experience. I frequent this location often and honestly, it is the best Cook Out location I've found. It seems to be staffed with high school kids but they are consistently very polite. I've never had a problem with my order and it's usually pretty speedy. I am addicted to Cook Out hamburgers (and getting there with the Cajun Fries!). I used to be addicted to their milkshakes but found professional help! Must be new management, because this places service has really improved. The food is consistantly pretty good, with the occasional so/so taste to the fried foods (change the oil :/ ) , but swinging by here approx once or twice a week over the last couple of years for lunch , I've seen a definite change in the last month or so. Went to Cook-Out last night and ordered 2 Trays- one with all Chicken Quesadillas and the other with a BBQ-Grilled Chicken Sandwich, onion rings, and a quesadilla. Well, they put BBQ in place of the BBQ Grilled Chicken Sandwich- NOT GOOD!! Today we went there and got 2 Trays- one with Chicken Quesadillas and the other with a Big Double Burger, fries, and a snack wrap. We got shakes in place of drinks - one Strawberry Cheesecake and the other a Dreamcicle shake. Well, the Strawberry Cheesecake shake had white chocolate chips in it which should not be in there. Tried calling the restaurant 5 times with no answer. I hate complaining, but please get my food and drink order right!!! If I could give zero stars or negative stars I would have. Tonight my husband went to Cook Out on South Main and ordered a cheese quesadilla Cook Out tray for me with double sides of fries. We order this all the time and never have had an issue. I am a vegetarian, hence the cheese quesadilla. Tonight I ate half of my quesadilla before realizing there was chicken on it!!! I am so against eating meat because of the animals and their cruel slauter treatments and all of the hormones in them.
