This resturant just opened up this week. Seemed like a great place to go, considering they had double line around the resturant for the drive thur. The only major issue I had was the parking and the layout of the parking lot. There was hardly enough room to get around in the parking lot and hard to find a stop to park. Not to mention the guy over a Brusters Ice Cream was pretty stingy about letting people park over there when there was no signs posted saying you cant park there. Anyways, the food was decent. You got alot for you money. My ticket price was $6.35 and for that I got a BBQ chicken sandwhich, fries and a chicken wrap and oh a chocolate chip mint milkshake. I wish the BBQ sandwhich had more flavor to it though and the wrap to have more chicken. The milk shake was pretty awesome, the chips where like supper big and it was minty. Im deff going to come back and give it another go. I just think they didn't expect such a big turn out. Cookout is blowing up all across The South. It seems every time I get off the freeway there's another location, which is great for value seekers. What's great about Cookout? The quality is a step above McDonald's (barf), Burger King, etc, but it's still fast food. Then why do people love this place I'm banking on two reasons: value and it's open late. Customers can inhale a pile of food for fewer than $5. This location is feet from Charleston Southern, which makes sense why crowds amass into the late night hours. Even when there's a line food comes out quickly. Our order was at our table and exactly how we expected within five minutes. Even the bacon was crispy. Cook Out didn't burn our burgers. In fact, it was done perfect. The corn dogs and chicken nuggets were good, too. This was the first time I tried the spicy chicken sandwich and I was impressed, as were we with the Cajun fries. And, by impressed, this is in relation to other fast food chains. In short, Cook Out has value I still don't understand. It's way better than McDonalds, yet cheaper and with a grade of flavor and quality one step higher. Good enough fast food and definitely cheap, but the service sucks. My daughter and I make jokes about the order errors -- i.e., I order beef quesadilla with a Coke and get chicken quesadilla with a Sprite -- and the people are always rude. It's like they've been forced into indentured servitude and have no choice but to work there. Today was a bit of anomaly as far as my Cookout experiences go. I actually got a rare kind person at the drive-through, and I even made a comment to her about how rude her co-workers usually are. Great experience. I have been going to Cook-Out for years in both North Carolina, where they started, and here in South Carolina. This location has something majorly wrong in who, and how they are hiring their staff. There are a couple real hard workers, but the rest seem to be running on some lacking work ethic., complete with 'attitude'. On a number of occasions I have not been greeted at all, and treated like I was a major inconvenience, by having to walk over to the counter and take my order. This is inexcusable!! If you can't do a better job hiring people, do us all a favor, shut the place down, lock the door and go home!!! I'M NOT COMING BACK! YOU'VE LOST ME AS A LONG TIME FAITHFUL CUSTOMER! !!! This was the worst experience i have had at any cookout, ever. I got the big double burger and requested everything on it. When u got home the ONLY thing that was on it was pickles. No cheese, no tomato, no onion, no lettuce, no nothing!! The order was taken correctly, per the receipt but it was not made correctly. Again, this is the worst experience i have ever had at a cookout restaurant....ever. My husband doesnt like to eat here but i always rave about this place, the one time i actually convince him to go, they screw up everything. Having been introduced to Cookout while living in Raleigh when Cookout was still "an NC thing," I'm soooo pleased they've expanded into VA and SC. My favorite flavors: Peanut butter fudge strawberry cheesecake If you're a fan of runny milkshakes, Cookout shakes aren't your friend. You will probably need a spoon to start enjoying your milkshake when you first get it, unless you have super sucking skills (pun intended). Also, Cookout is open ridiculously late (on weekends). I was really excited about trying this new hip restaurant but as I bit into the burger it was sudden disappointment. The burger was juicy and the onion rings were alright. I will admit that their hushpuppies were delicious. I just felt the food did not live up to the hype. Their order can be kind of confusing and I felt rushed when looking at the menu. I think I will try eating inside the restaurant next time. Also I will admit that the menu is rather unique and they do offer a variety of different side items. The price for the food kind of threw me off as well. It was rather cheap for the amount of food ordered. I only touched a couple fries but they were decent. Great prices and the food is great. Less than $6 for a burger, 2 sides and a drink. This place is seriously under rated. Hush puppies are good for a fast food restaurant. The Oreo shake is great, Oreo cookies equally divided throughout from the top to the bottom. The Cajun chicken is very tastey. Definitely coming back. read more

I would like to say something about cookout on University boulevard I gave it three stars normally I would have given it four or five but the last encounter I had was about 30 minutes ago which would make it 2:30 a.m. not only was the woman for teenager whatever so rude when I was ordering I could barely order my food because she never stopped talking she's talked with an attitude she was very impolite like beyond normal rudeness and then when I go to pick up my food I pull up to the window I have a small dog that is a shih Tzu and when I'm stopped he likes to put his two front paws on my windowsill with the window down and as soon as I pulled up she said to me they're very rude and almost disgusted way your dog is about to fall out of the window and I said no he's not I'm holding on to him plus we're stopped he's fine she kept repeating until I just ignored her and then I said what is your problem it seems like they will hire anybody these days. For someone like her that was probably not a good thing to say but I'm sick and tired of being a customer and wherever I go especially drive throughs the people are so incredibly rude I mean it is beyond necessary and anyway when I said that to her she said I don't have an attitude and I said yes you kind of do and she said no I don't have an attitude and I said again yes you do and it was like that for three or four more times before I just started laughing like this is ridiculous so then she's got my plastic floor in her hand she points at me like like I'm a child and she's a mother telling me oh and because you're going to have that snobby attitude I'm not giving you your food and she shuts the window so I asked to speak to the manager right away the manager was very nice and very helpful and that's the only reason I even gave it a three I've been going to that cookout because it's very close to my house for quite a few years and I have never ever met anyone like this girl so warning warning!! This chain use to have hand made burgers and was great. We visited from Florida and ate here since we don't have them there. Not good. Burger was dry and overcooked. Nothing like I remember. Will never eat at Cookout again and not sure why anyone else would either. read more

Cookout is the hip new fast food joint in Charleston, with long lines and delicious food and milk shakes it is also a must try for everybody. This reminds me of In and Out, in California. It's not quite as good, but still great. The burgers are juicy, fries are tasty, and the shakes are 2nd to none. Don't be scared by the line out the door, they move extremely fast. Not sure why the inside is as small as it is, but they do have a lot of outdoor seating. If you want good, cheap fast food really late at night this is the place to go! I have been here on several occasions at different times and it always is busy but luckily the staff is quick therefore you barely wait for your food. The chicken wrap is delicious and so are the burgers but my favorite is the fries with the seasoning you can add on... all I can say is AMAZING! Worst cookout location I have ever been too. The girl messed up our order & then got an attitude whenever I placed my SECOND order for my missing food on my first order. Then proceeded to turn around and clearly talk about me with two other girls, all playing with their hair IN THE KITCHEN. None washing their hands. Watched them pass my bag around because they didn't want to bring it. Literally handed it to four different people. Then the girl yelled at me not to snatch it. Normally decent food at a good price. Shakes are the best part. But I was there today 10 minutes after they opened up and they were unprepared, drive-through backed up, so I went inside and never got helped... eventually left. While I was waiting, I'm looking around and seeing how dirty the place really is behind the lines, in the dining room, bathroom doesn't look like it's been touched for days with trashcan overflowing. I've never experienced this chain before. I ordered the burger which came with 2 sides. I choose fries and onion rings and added a milkshake for Only $1.00. Fantastic!!!! The shake was made from Real ice cream (Strawberry) and was soooo thick I had to wait for it to melt a bit just so I could drink it. Delicious! The burger came loaded and the fries and rings were nice and hot. If you se this chain in your travels when you are down south, do yourself a favor and stop in.
