This place and that little window just caught my attention. I decided to stop by on my way to the beach while on vacation in Mt. pleasant. It is an absolute local spot and was pretty busy when I got there but the line moved fast and service was efficient and friendly. Everyone waiting by the little window had good vibes. Some blue collar workers seemed to be there on lunch break and others just sort of passing through like myself . I had no idea what to get but I knew I wanted a lunch sandwich. Now this place is my jam. We all love Johnny's grab a hot dog on a hot beach day, take it too the beach and it is the perfect snack. Early morning, Johnny got you... they have breakfast too! But we stand by the hotdogs. They are so sweet there. It's like a little hidden window but once you out know where it is you won't ever forget. It's a common stomping ground on the way to Sullivans. They do close at weird times so go early. Take it with you too the beach. We always wanted to go after but was closed by then. Can't wait for more beach days soon to get my favorite hot dogs again. So, this place is easy and fast, super simple. I'm looking forward to going back to try a breakfast sandwich sometime because I've heard all good things. The sweet tea is good, the hot dogs are good and you have tons of options. The only thing I would suggest is having a few options already put together that go well together. Like a "Chicago Style Dog," and some other combinations because I imagine with some time and creativity you could come up with some great ones and the list totally intimidates me lol! It was good but nothing spectacular though in fairness, they have specialty ones that probably give them the reputation they carry. What was surprising was the biscuits and gravy. Oh my. This is definitely a local spot. Built into the side of an Ace Hardware. Parking can be scarce during busy hours. This is a small, simple, no frills spot that is big on taste. Keep in mind, this is outdoor ordering. There is a small outdoor dining area but with only four seats be prepared to eat in the car or take with you. I found the atmosphere quaint, country and welcoming. The line was long but moved fast the afternoon I ventured here to try a hot dog. The menu was pretty expansive considering the small locale. It featured breakfast all day, sandwiches, specials, and of course hot dogs. They also had baked goods for sale as well. The pricing was very reasonable. Two dogs, chips, drink for like $6.25. I got the chili dog and it did not disappoint. I know the hot dog is a highly processed food but not all hot dogs are the same. This one was delicious. I highly recommend checking out this spot. It was lunch time and I was in hot dog mode so looking again on my Yelp app what doggy joint were near by and Bam! One was only 2 miles from the hotel. Parking is tight since they share the lot with other stores but I found a spot not far. The old school strip mall was dated in what I call fisherman's wood, cool and ocean like. The menu was clear and the blackboard has the specials on it. I knew I wanted the Colemans special-2 hot dogs,chip and a drink-$7.50 tax included. I didn't want any cheese or chili because I wanted to taste the dogs and just had some banana peppers and mustard on one and pickles and japaneos on the other. Looking for that's snap that you get from a hot dog and I got it! Don't let the outside fool you, although you have to dig your ice from a ice chest everything else look classic. I love running out to Johnny's to grab some breakfast sandwiches. They're not only delicious, they're also huge... and cheap! I once ordered the double taylor ham egg and cheese and it was enormous! For such a small place, they have a big menu. There's only a handful of stools outside so plan on getting your order to go. The hot dogs are great and there are countess amount of toppings to add. I'm looking forward to trying more of their lunch options too. My only wish is that they were open on Sundays... I always seem to want breakfast sandwiches on Sunday. read more

Yep, 5 stars for a hunk of processed meat parts on bread (plus toppings of course). The hot dogs crunch. They're hotter than blazes. The chili has a little bit of a bite. Get there before 3, parking can be tricky if it's busy and there is very little outdoor seating (that I saw). And although I clamor to be associated with anything Alton Brown promotes, I can't go along in this one. The real Good Eats is right here at Johnny's. Of course, the wife and I are split on this. She thinks Cosmic has the edge. Guess we'll have to keep trying.... Oh and by the way, how do these places with Sweet Tea keep the liquid from just going to a solid block of sugar? It's hard to beat two hot dogs (with tons of toppings), a fountain drink and a bag of chips for right around $8. It's a great deal for lunch or an afternoon snack. I've been here countless times and admittedly have only eaten hot dogs, so I can't speak so much for their other menu items, but they do have quite a variety to choose from if hot dogs aren't your thing. To be such a small place there really are endless combinations of toppings, sides, and drinks. They keep an open ice cooler filled with a lot of different bottled sodas, juices and drinks. There is an old school ice chest right by the counter/window where you can fill your own cup to get fountain soda, sweet tea or lemonade. I love their sweet tea! There are also lots of different bagged chips options which is nicer than just having a choice between plain or bbq. And their hot dog toppings!! I couldn't even begin to list them all but there are probably more than 20 to pick from and create any combo you'd like. I personally love the chili/cheese dog with cole slaw and crumbled potato chips! Seating is VERY minimal (like practically non-existent other than a few stools at a counter) so this is definitely somewhere to grab and go or eat in your car. read more
