    Sausage Cheeseburger

This restaurant has been on my list forever, and Matt's Burgers did not disappoint. I had just had a medical procedure, and the warm and exceptional service that the staff gave us really lifted my spirits. Everyone was attentive and kind, and we didn't feel suffocated even though we were very checked on. The space is small and cozy, and very clean. It has a casual vibe without feeling like a dive bar. At 11ish on a Wednesday, they were only moderately busy. We ordered sausage cheeseburgers, sweet potato tots (without sugar which they offered), and fries Spanish style. Everything was hot, fresh, and cooked to perfection! I loved the sausage cheeseburger - you really could tell it was mixed in house and it was juicy. The toppings were fresh and delicious. The Spanish fries were SO GOOD. We loved the fried onions and jalapeños, which my husband said he could've eaten alone. But I disagree - the fries are so delicious and the seasoning is awesome. I was a little worried by previous reviews that they wouldn't be quality, but they were hot and crispy. A little larger than shoestring. The sweet potato tots were great too, especially with ranch. I fear we may stop by every time we are in Summerville. You also really can't beat the prices.

This was such a great find! I love a good hamburger and I thought Matt's really delivered on their overall price and quality. The best part about the food was that it all came out HOT. I thought the burger itself was delicious with good beef and not greasy. The tots were good (I am a bit picky when it comes to sweet potato fries) so I would probably order the regular fries next time. The service and waitresses were so nice and helpful! It made the ambiance just feel at "home". If you are a burger lover for a good deal and quality, check this spot out!

We decided to try Matt's burgers in Summerville, we were in the mood for a good burger and Boy did we get that and more. We had the Sausage and beef burger and the bacon burger along with a large fry to share their prices were reasonable and the quality of the food was outstanding. The burgers were cooked to perfection juicy and delicious. The fries were crispy on the outside and tender inside. A job well done. The place is small but very quaint .the staff were extremely helpful and friendly along with being attentive. For those who like outside dining they offer a very cute patio area with a few tables as well. So if you get the chance check it out you won't be sorry you did.

Stopped in with two of my kids, we were VERY hungry. I had a burger, my son had a kids burger and fries, my daughter had burger with fries. Fries were good, a touch thicker than shoestring fries and tasted a lot like McDonald's fries, which is a compliment. The burgers were smashed with a crispy outside. Very basic presentation and honestly I liked it a lot and so did my kids. And the price may be the least expensive burger in the Charleston area that isn't from a franchise. Servers were fast and responsive, place was packed so the food was a touch slow to come out, but all is forgiven for a burger that I liked this much. I can't stand fancy, gourmet burgers, this is exactly what I like, a great basic burger with character, flavor, and not too greasy or gross. I don't come to Summerville too much but this is a good stop when in the area. J.Ja

This place just gets it--simple, delicious, and friendly. It doesn't have a lot of seating and stays busy, but it's worth the wait. The burgers are amazing, and the fries are just as good. You won't find a cheaper burger, especially not at this quality. It's a small, cozy storefront with friendly local staff. An absolute hidden gem.

How do you overcook and undercook a fry?

A customer is a customer no matter how small, you never know who's listening to how you treat your customers. When you are already paying too much for a burger and then an order of fries are overcooked, oily and overpriced. If a customer asks for them to be taken off the bill because they are inedible and you don't offer to remake them you shouldn't treat them rudely if you want to keep customers coming back.

It's been easily 10 years since my last meal at Matt's and I was hoping it would live up to my memories when I returned the day after this Christmas. It most definitely did. I ordered the signature Sausage Cheeseburger with a side of Spanish Fries. The burger was cooked well with melty cheese and cold, crisp toppings. The fries themselves were perfectly OK, but the fried onions and jalapeños on top that make them "Spanish Fries" help improve the flavor and texture, as the onions are jammy and sweet. The few bites I had of my wife's Frito Pie were fantastic too. As other reviewers have mentioned, the service is much better than you'd expect from a neighborhood burger joint. Everyone is friendly and attentive, keeping your drinks topped up and making sure everything is to your liking. The location is definitely cozy with maybe a dozen tables inside and a couple tables out front.

    You stay classy, "Barri"!

Terrible quality and HORRIBLE customer service! Trashy and classless...the sort of place that makes you worried they'll spit in your food if you have the audacity to point out a mistake. AVOID THIS PLACE!! As a first-time customer, I asked the waitress/cash register attendant about their chicken sandwich. I was told there would be a substantial amount of food, and -- specifically -- that the sandwich would include three (3) chicken tenders. 15 minutes (and $11.89) later, I received a pathetically small sandwich on toasted white bread (not even a bun!) containing just two (2) tiny, gnarled fried chicken tenders. When I brought this laughably bad sandwich to the same staff member's attention, she instantly adopted an awful, unprofessional attitude -- as soon as she walked back into the kitchen, I saw her angrily and aggressively give me the "up yours" middle finger while mouthing the words "F*ck you!!" I immediately demanded a refund & left. If you want to confirm all the worst stereotypes about dive bars and low-end burger joints, pop into Matt's Burgers. Otherwise, stay far, FAR away!

Great food, great service, and great value. We'll definitely be back. We had cheeseburger plates with fries.

They both had the Cheesy Burchy Burger and fries and I had the Deluxe Burchy Burger with onion rings. We split fried pickles and I had some hot wings. Server was friendly and food came out fast, which I appreciated because we were all pretty hungry. Fries were slightly underdone which is fine and needed salt but that was easy to fix with the shaker in the table. Burgers are a 1/4 lb smash style and were really good. Super crispy and tons of flavor. A+ on the burgers. Onion rings were fine, and I really liked my wings, crispy and the hot sauce was just right. We all agreed that the pickle chips were good. Kids liked their burgers as well. Note that the burger prices don't include a side, but $6 for a good burger is a Burger King or Wendy's price and for a local place, that's a great value. I'll take a Burchy Burger over a franchise mystery patty any day. J.Ja

I have difficulty with steps but there were enough railings to make it navigable for me. The building was likely to have at one time been a small house. There were six of us in our party and we were initially told we would be sharing one bill and the gratuity would be automatically added. A couple of our folks expressed concern and intentionally ordered cheaper items and no drinks to make sure they had adequate funds to split the bill. Fortunately our waitress, who was a joy, did individual bills and did not put on an automatic gratuity. The policy had the potential to seriously reduce the restaurant's income. They should probably rethink this stance. As noted, our waitress was terrific and rapidly got drink and food orders sorted. The menu is pretty short, but probably a good choice for a small pub type restaurant. My wife and I both selected an on-tap local brew, both of which were good and reasonably priced. We both also selected the fish and chips. The order came with a side of cole slaw that was pleasant. The chips were obviously made on site and both properly cooked and well seasoned. We are always surprised at restaurants that serve obviously bagged and frozen fries. The fish itself was reasonably sized and nicely fried. Quite tasty, but we sort of expected good seafood as this is a sister restaurant to a local seafood establishment. For the price the portion sizes of all the meals at the table seemed just a bit small. So we will quite likely return. It's not fancy. It's not high end dining. It's a tad pricey for pub food, but overall pretty good. I note here that had our waitress not been a gem or had they enforced the one check policy, this review would have been a good deal more negative. I suspect they have an accessible entrance but it was not obvious. That may be a consideration for some and checking ahead of time would be prudent.

My sandwich was good, not a great Reuben but a good sandwich. They definitely needed to get more of the water out of the kraut before putting it on the sandwich, and it wasn't really real rye bread. But I liked it. The Brussels and burnt ends were fine but needed a lot more meat, especially for a $4 up charge over fries (and I think they were $9 menu price which is insane for a side). My kid liked his burger and fries and it honestly looked good. Service was fine, or complaints or anything amazing there. I'm usually not a fan of gussied up burgers and fries but this spot was decent and should be a four star place, but the prices were simply not OK. I could have had a whole steak from Outback for the price of a burger here. I've had much better Reubens in big cities like Chicago, NYC, and Montreal that were bigger and with better sides for less money. If I am paying $22 for a sandwich and side it needs to absolutely change my reality and I that just didn't happen here. Prices need to drop here by 25% or more to be fair. J.Ja

This is a pet friendly restaurant and you can see people eating outside with their dogs as early as 11 in the morning. There wasn't any ducks to be seen. Our initial gripe was the service which wasn't particularly warm or friendly (not something that we usually find in Summerville). A patron's connection with a server is probably 75% of your dining experience at an eatery and here it was cold and unassuming. However, what was especially disappointing was the food. My burger was a dry hockey puck and was basically your typical frozen burger that you would order on the cheap from Costco. This isn't typical for a pub, a freshly made burger is usually a staple of Pub fare and it was a surprise that they would serve a frozen paddy. The fries were also nothing special as they were unenjoyable and a disappointment. My guests were also disappointed in their individual meals as well. It's possible that we hit this spot on a "bad hair day" and since we live in Summerville, we may at some point give the Dog and Duck a chance for redemption.
