Dude. This is the best place in Salisbury for a college kid. I don't know how their prices are so low. I could probably buy 2000 calories for 10 bucks. If you are a drunk college student on a Friday night, this is the place to go to. If you are on a budget and don't care about your figure, this is the restaurant to eat at. When traveling, I usually have places that I'll stop to eat that aren't available in my area. After my 1st visit, this has become one of them. For around $24, me and the wife got 5 BBQ sandwiches w/o hot sauce (after the first was so good, got 4 to go), a double cheeseburger with onion rings & hush puppies and 2 shakes. The pork BBQ was as good as any I've eaten in the South. The wife said the burger and rings were pretty good but the hush puppies were her favorite. The shakes were ridiculously good!!! It was hard to pick with all the choices but I had the Banana Pudding shake and my wife had the Pineapple. The Pineapple actually reminded me of my grandmother's homemade pineapple ice cream. Can't wait to try other flavors next time I'm in the area. Can't really advise on the other food choices but the standouts in my opinion are the BBQ sandwich and shakes. read more

Cookout honestly has some of the best fast food you'll find at really good prices. Trays are a great deal. The fries are my personal favorite (just before Chick Fil A) and they have super good crunchy ice in their sodas that's to die for. I'm vegetarian so I really can't attest to most of the menu but everything I've seen friends order looks really good. My only complaint is the SERVICE. Good god. I don't think i've been anywhere with worse service than the Salisbury cookout. If you're in a rush, forget it. There's never a time when it's not packed. Why bother with Hardees or McD's when you have this place in Salisbury? The combos are out of this world!!!! We love getting a Burger here. Everything tastes freshly made and the options of toppings are almost limitless. The chili is really good and I recommend them with the fries or as a chili burger. The shakes though!!!! These are seriously the best shakes around. First thing first, order your shake, eat the food, go shopping, and after youth shopping trip, youth shake will be ready to consume. Seriously, these shakes are so thick I feel like I'm siphoning gas or something. JK! Fries are good, onion rings are good, chicken nuggets are good, and the quesadillas are good. First, have realistic expectations. This is a fast food establishment known for being inexpensive. If heaven were a food product, in my mind - it would be a giant hush puppy, and that's what made me try Cook Out. I heard they had hush puppies and wanted to try them for myself. They weren't terrible, they weren't delicious. They were good enough, and satisfied my craving. And you can get a big bag of them for $1. We have been multiple times, and have been satisfied with everything we have ordered. my daughter and I can easily share a combo meal, as she loves a quesadilla and that's a side option (seriously. A quesadilla is a side!) I enjoy their pulled pork sandwich, the husband typically opts for a burger. The onion rings weren't bad either. Again, this is fast food. I'm not saying you're going to have the best meal in town here, but you will get decent fast food for $5 or less and I have never had the same "I feel disgusting" experience that can come after other fast food meals. read more

Food was awesome. Milkshakes were even better. Prices were really cheap! We got enough food to feed four adults with milkshakes and had enough left over for another meal and it only cost us $30! This place is amazing if what you're in the mood for is very affordable fast food. My brother and I got the cook out platters with two sides and a drink. It came out to only 11 dollars! Incredible! We both got the cheeseburger which was tremendous and tasted very fresh. I got the hushpuppies, which had good flavor, and the chicken nugget side. The only reason people come here is because the food is cheap and it's close to campus. That is the only reason. So you can imagine the food does not have much to be desired. Nothing taste good and the service is terrible. I love fast food for the most part. But there is favoritism to certain customers and it's obvious. Portions are small and nothing is cooked correctly. And the chocolate milkshakes are literally vanilla ice cream with off brand chocolate syrup. It's honestly pretty expensive when you order exactly what you want and it's just not worth it. It's awful because I've had to go to this restaurant because of my friends, which means I had a lot of opportunities to get a good food but it just kept happening. Bit of a disappointment. Ordered 2 chicken breasts, chilli cheese fries, and 2 shakes. It took over 20 mins to get my food! My hubby loved his Cajun chicken. His chilli cheese fries were ok. I ordered a bbq chicken breast, no bun. They put it on a bun which soaked up the bbq sauce so it was quite bland when I had to remove the bun. My peanut butter fudge shake was very good but his Carmel fudge shake was not very flavorful. I wasn't expecting it to be so thick that you had to use a spoon, which is more tricky while driving. I heard this place was a total drunk/hangover foodies dream but I was pretty disappointed in the quality of food we received. The shakes happened to be the only item I liked. When I unwrapped my burger is was very flat and a giant grease ball almost unable to eat it. I NEVER waste my food no matter how full I am but I easily left multiple bites for the trash. This is a great place to get some quick BBQ style food, fresh, fast, and inexpensive. The chopped pork sandwich is loaded with pork and slaw, and is super tender and full of flavor. If you enjoy chargrilled chicken, the chicken club sandwich is a great choice. Loaded with a large tender chicken breast, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and mayo. Very delicious. Hot dogs are a great choice for the kids. They can be very busy during rush meal times, be prepared to wait, but the wait is worth it when your order comes out perfectly. read more

This is the worst the cookout I've ever been to. I would avoid it at all costs if it wasn't the only one in the area. The food is always good, but the service is utter trash. I had to wait 10 minutes to get the attention of someone to get condiments then the guy that got the condiments added another 3 minutes to my wait because he kept trying to throw them through his legs to me instead of just handing them to me like a normal individual. I am a fan of the food - it is a GREAT value for the money you pay. The burgers are almost as good as Five Guys!!! The milkshakes are fantastic. The hush puppies are good, the onion rings are awesome (but you only get four and that is so not enough)...I can honestly say everything I have gotten there is really good - especially for fast food. My review would be five stars if the employees actually were polite, pleasant and helpful. Of all the food places I have been in town, these employees are the worst. And they don't care. They are rude, never say thank you, never great you when you walk in, scream through drive through speaker, and just could care less about the customers. The management needs to look to hire smiling, customer service oriented people who actually enjoy working there and like the food industry. As far as fast food is concerned, Cook Out is unbeatable in its price range. The staff / service are always top notch, the restaurant is clean, and the food is consistently good. Of course it's cheap drive thru food, so don't go in expecting Five Guy's quality burgers, but If you want to fill up cheap and fast it's hard to beat Cook Out. They're open late too, and they bust through unbelievably long lines faster than you can place your order at Hardees! read more

Cookout is awesome. I went to College in North Carolina so I was introduced to it there. I've had cookout from the restaurant in Salisbury before and it's been fine. This time however was extremely disappointing. I ordered a big double burger tray. Everything but the burger was fine. The patties on the burger were about 1/8 the size in width of the normal patties and the circumference of the two patties did not even take up half the bun. They were about as thick as a McDonalds thin patty (just as an example). Other than that, I have no complaints, the service was friendly and fast, the restaurant was clean and I still love cookout. But this was disappointing. I only ever make it to Salisbury once in a while and this is the closest cookout to me. Hopefully next time it will be better! read more
