A cute hidden gem for British food near the Bay! There's a lot of British decor and hand touch details to make the spot feel cozy and inviting. They even have a little marketplace, where you can grab British snacks and candies as well as to-go meals for at home. I ended up ordering the Coronation Chicken Salad with potato salad. The chicken was tender, creamy, and had a little bit of spices akin to curry spices without the heat. They also added lil pieces of dried citrus slices on top to add a bit of sweetness. The salad ingredients were well paired together; I had the creamy garlic dijon dressing atop a bed of greens, sunflower seeds, tomatoes, and what I believe to be dried cranberries. The potatoes for the potato salad were tender and well-seasoned. I was actually surprised with the portion size! For the price of the meal, I think the portions were worth it! Also, although it's not explicitly stated, they also have scones with clotted cream and your choice of jam. The scones are fluffy and dense (but it doesn't feel heavy on your stomach after you eat them) and pair nicely with the airy cream and flavorful jam. Definitely an item to order in addition to your meal. I also had a bite of my friends' sticky toffee pudding. I came here with a group of friends on a Sunday, we were worried that there wasn't any parking but there happen to be plenty of parking available. This place is located near Gandy and Bayshore Boulevard. the food is very good. I was surprised at the plating because I wasn't expecting so much salad and portions. Located on Gandy Boulevard this small diner like place offers up good food. You place your order, pay and then find a seat. They'll bring your food to you. It's a no frills help yourself kind of a place. If you want more to drink, you'll have to walk up to the counter and ask for it. I enjoyed my coronation chicken salad and would gladly get it again. I'm really feeling like this is a 3-star spot here...my first time here years ago was probably a 2. The food nor the experience was any good. But last weekend, I thought I'd just give it another shot...and I was very pleasantly surprised. So, I walk in, up to the counter - because that's where you order your food and pay. Then you sit. But if the tables aren't bussed or cleaned, you'll need to ask to have something cleaned off for you. Then you wait and although you may have ordered coffee, you may not get it until the meal comes, so once I sat and no one brought me silverware or water or anything, I asked to have my coffee beforehand. The nice young girl said ok (she was very nice) but then she proceeded to clean off tables. Then, she went to the back of the counter and I thought I'd get my coffee (yay!) but instead, she came out again to wipe the tables down. Then, once that was all done, then I could have my coffee. I will say the coffee was in a nice BIG cup and was super tasty! I am enjoying this and watching the minimal traffic out the window ride by as I wait for my food. Then the food shows up and it looks fantastic! So I eat the soft, flaky, egg-filled croissant and it is VERY good! Much better than my previous visit so long ago... So on food and coffee taste alone, it's a 5 for a small, simple spot that I hope remains where it is and doesn't get run out like every other local, independent mom n pop shop in the area seems to be doing... I would say the cons, however, are no one came to ask me how my meal was, no one asked if I would like some water or anything else. In fact, when I wanted more coffee, I had to go up to the counter with my cup and ask for more. They were certainly nice about it and I enjoyed finishing that 2nd cup... Cooks is a great local brunch spot. It is British-themed/inspired and has decorations to reflect that. The kitchen is charmingly homey and could be mistaken for a kitchen in a suburban house! I got the pancakes which came with a side of fresh fruit, and my girlfriend got the lox bagel. The pancakes were fluffy and thick, and the syrup tasted fresh. What an adorable little eatery on Gandy near Bayshore boulevard. The hubs and I were on our usual Saturday afternoon bike ride and decided to find a place to have lunch. Google Maps took us to this little gem where we had a wonderful lunch. The place is small, simple and has a home-cooked meal kind of vibe to it. The kitchen is open, they offer soup, sandwiches and salads. They also have dinner specials listed, which we plan on trying another time. My apologies to my long distant ancestors, but usually food from the UK is not my thing. That said Cooks has some of the best brunch food I've eaten in Tampa. My son had their brunch pancakes with fruit. They were just like what my grandmother used to make. Thicker with a lot of rise to them. I had the ham & Swiss croissant with fruit and a side of bacon. My wife had the chicken salad special with their amazing potatoes. It was huge. She couldn't eat it all. They have a nice store area with UK items and some menu carry out items I plan on checking out next trip, like Irish bangers and Scottish Kippers. Be sure to stop in. I've passed by this place countless times and never thought anything of it until a friend suggested going for lunch. It's a small place packed with a ton of goodies. They do breakfast, lunch, and have to-go options for dinner. There was a good list of sandwiches and salads that it was hard to decide. I opted for the roast beef sandwich and potato salad as my side. The sandwich came with very fresh tomato and lettuce, Dijon dressing, and tender roast beef. The potato salad was more of potato with dressing and it was fantastic. Nothing I've ever had before. It was a nice surprise to see that it came with a little lettuce salad too. They have a good selection of chips and candies you can choose too. My friend got the Coronation Chicken Salad, which she had said was her favorite. There's a British theme to it so some of the selections are things you wouldn't normally see, but I'd love to try some different things. We stopped in for brunch and were able to find parking quickly; they've got a good amount of spots storefront and alongside of the building. If for some reason all the spots are taken, Bayshore Animal Clinic across the street has spots and they're closed on Sunday so you could park there in a pinch on Sundays. -The inside is nice. It isn't fancy but it's clean and smells great equipped with one gender-neutral bathroom. -The food quality was superb, came out in a fair amount of time, and was piping hot. -The service was great too. After we were served our food, one of the cashiers came by to check on us and refilled our coffees free of charge, which was appreciated. read more

I've only gone here for late breakfasts. I work evenings so my breakfast time is usually around 11:00-11:30. I've gotten eggs, bacon and a side of fruit, & toast & jam. Eggs over medium, a little more done than what I think is over medium, but ok. The bacon is very good. 3 slices & sliced thin, cooked to perfection. Just the way I like bacon. The side of fruit is amazing. It's not just unripe melons that you get other places, it's melon, cantaloupe, banana, blueberries, blackberries, watermelon slice and pineapple! You get 3 not 2 slices of multi grain toast and a chose of strawberry or raspberry jam. I think it may be homemade:-). The only thing that might be a disadvantage is it is a small dining room, only 10-11 tables. I've been twice & plan to come back many more times. I have to try their salads & sandwiches because when I've seen them go by they look really yummy. When you go in you put your order in at the counter & take a seat & they will bring you your food. I've heard it commonly said the Brits aren't really known for their cooking but you'd never know it going to Cooks. It's a little restaurant, so small looks like you're in somebody else's kitchen at home. Very cozy. When you walk in it smells amazing! They have a nice-sized menu of breakfast, sandwiches, salads, a couple of sweets and a couple of soups. They serve the breakfast all day. I ordered a hot ham and swiss croissant with fruit. It was delicious! They make some special mustard spread to go on a sandwich. The sandwich was warm and the croissant was flaky. They didn't go cheap on the fruit-they actually gave berries, banana, watermelon, fruits people actually like. My mother enjoyed her BLT and liked the way they cut it into thirds. My mild complaints: while the restaurant is cozy it could use some updates. Every other table was wobbly and it had a gas station store feel with regard to flooring and shelving. I also found the prices a little high. My mom's BLT was 9.95 and only comes with the option of some coleslaw or potato salad and a little baby springs garnish. Cooks kitchen is located in a modest diner off Gandy in South South Tampa next to the Kojack's House of Ribs BBQ shack. I Got the salmon bagel with potato salad and spring greens salad at Cooks kitchen. The salad was excellent. However the salmon bagel only came with a few tiny pieces of tomato and onions. I asked for 2 slices of tomatoes and more onions to have a less barren smoked bagel and it turned out great after my modifications over the original. While you wait, you can keep up on the latest news from the royal family in the British Majesty magazine. Honestly, the food really just tasted like they bought everything at Costco. The following were not good: Coffee tasted like iron Cream cheese and lox were almost surely from Costco. I've been going to Cooks Kitchen for 7 or 8 years. On my 1st visit, I ordered the Egg Salad Sandwich. I liked it so much that I've never ordered another sandwich and I usually go there about once a month. If you order it on multi-grain bread, you actually get a sandwich and a half. Place your order at the counter, sit at any available table and your food is delivered to you. The staff on my last few visits has been great. Very nice young people that were very pleasant even though it was almost closing time on a Sunday afternoon. This time of year, Cooks has a great assortment of imported English foods and candies. I usually order their Lemon Curd Cake for dessert but end up bringing it home because the sandwich with a fresh, small side salad and another side (potato salad) is more than enough for lunch. The only reason I'm not giving Cooks Kitchen a 5 star review is the dining room could use a little sprucing up. The vinyl tile flooring, which needs replacing, may be original to the building which has been there for many, many years. read more

You order at the counter and then sit wherever you want. Their bagel selection is limited, only plain, everything and multigrain. And only plain cream cheese available. I asked to have my bagel toasted crispy, but it didn't come out crispy at all. Since they already put cream cheese on it, I didn't feel like asking them to remake one, I kinda just had the semi-toasted bagel with plain cream cheese and a little bit of smoked salmon on top. I've been going to Cook's Kitchen now for over a year and have been at least 2-3 dozen times. Let's get to the knitty gritty though shall we chaps? The Food: The food here is fresh and delicious. Explore the menu, but I recommend the Egg Salad sandwich for lunch, the Croisant sandwich for breakfast, any of the salads, the meringue dessert and the roast turkey and swiss sandwich. Also, their house dressing is in its own category of yummy. Even their smoked salmon on a bagel with dill, capers and capers is great. The food is why I spend my money here! Service: This is a kitchen, not a restaurant. So don't expect anything beyond the basics, which is fine with me. Good service though for what they do. Atmosphere: I guess they could improve this a bit, but the theme is you're in someone's kitchen so I suppose it fits. I like that there's no TV to watch so you can actually talk to friends without distraction. Misc.: It says they have beer on the outside, but they stopped doing that. When they did have it, you couldn't drink it there. Why would anyone order beer to go? Hence the fail on the beer. Aside from that, the only other issue are the hours. They don't open until 10am and that's much too late for someone who frequently craves their breakfast like me. Who over 25 eats breakfast that late!? I guess the Brits, but not I. Such an incredible find in South Tampa! You drive past this all the time on Gandy, you just don't know it. Working out of a converted house, the staff is always polite and efficient at Cooks. I swear by their Coronation Chicken Salad (but get it as a sandwich!) and I crave their pasta salad at least once a week. I absolutely love their decor, stylized as a British pub with UK flags and snacks you can't get here in the US. Family-owned and I hope will be here for years to come! read more

What a lovely find. My friend Victoria had told me about this lovely little English restaurant and market and decided to take me to lunch. It was delightful. The restaurant is located just off of Bayshore Blvd and you will find a wonderful menu of delectable treats. I chose a Turkey Sandwich with potato leek soup. First off the sandwich is served on deliciously fresh bread and it was very tasty. The soup however was to die for; creamy and flavorful. I had an iced tea as well. Lunch conversation gave way to- "wanna try one of he deserts?" I of course obliged! The Sweet Toffee Pudding was the order- SWEET LORD and I ain't kidding. It was amazing. Sadly, they did not have scones that day, but they did have homemade lemon cake with homemade lemon curd. How has this not been in my life before today? The cake was the perfect texture -- not too dense, not too light. The lemon curd was lemony without being too sweet or tart. And the lemon buttercream was the best I've ever had. The staff is very friendly. The proprietress told me which of the prepared meals were freshly made or on special. The fresh bolognese did smell good, but I'm dying to try their chicken tikka masala.
