Kind of a bizarre place. Is it a gas station? Is it a convenient store? Is it a restaurant? What in the world is going on inside? You walk in and it's like a transformed gas station into kind of a deli, kind of a convenience store, and kind of a restaurant. Super duper weird. The menu has a ton of stuff on it. I was feeling like getting some food from my people so thought I'd try this German spot. Up first was the #3 Reuben for $13.95. I love me a good Reuben. However, this is not the place to get a Reuben. Super thin, barely any meat or flavor. It is mostly eating bread. Avoid. Up next, I can't remember what the other sandwich was, but it was bad. I think it was a Cuban, but not sure. It was straight bread. Take a look at the pic. Now, the only above average food item I tried was the German potato salad. I would come back here only for that. Read reviews and had to come try it. Yes sandwich's are made to order so you wait to order and get your food. You pick a drink from the refrigerator and if eating in find a table. After eating you tell them what you had to eat and drink and then pay. I had the turkey ruben on marble. You pick the type of bread. Didn't realize that if you want a side you need to order it with the sandwich. Honestly I had the regular sandwich and would not have had room for anything else. I recently came here for lunch with coworkers and was excited for the visit because I've been eyeing it for a while. It is an old-school, family-owned German deli with all the typical German meats, sandwiches, potato salad, etc. And as a fun surprise, they also make Cuban sandwiches! lol I do want to add that you should not come here in a rush. Orders are made fresh, many times down to slicing the meat for your sandwich. It does take time, seemingly even if you get a cold sandwich vs hot one. But it's worth the wait! Just set your expectations and do not try to come here when you're on a time crunch! We were all very happy with our sammies and the prices were decent too! The deli itself is quite old, and it feels a bit like you time traveled or somehow teleported to somewhere rural once you walk inside. There are pictures of the family/staff from years past as well as old newspaper clippings featuring the deli. They also sell tons of German candies, chocolates, and other goodies! This little deli, has been around Tampa since 1952 . It may not look much from the outside, but once you step inside, it's all things German. Walk up to the counter, decide if you want a hot or cold sandwich, large or small, a side, or any of their other amazing foods. I'm sure you'll be greeted friendly at the counter- as they ask you what you'd like to order. After you place your order, you can pick a table, and choose a drink from the cooler. Three of us stopped in for lunch (dine in) on a Saturday. They were pretty busy at the time but managed to take care of us fairly quickly. It's really more of a deli than a sit-down place to eat, but there are about 6 or so simple tables there. They have a wide variety of food (and great beers!!) to buy there. There is a large selection of cold drinks and beer to have with your meal. I had the #18 Reuben-Yorker on grilled rye. It is filled with pastrami, corned beef, sauerkraut, swiss, cole slaw , and havarti cheese.. it was delicious. You can choose from several kinds of breads I had the regular size, which was more than enough. The super size is for big eaters. They have several sides such as potato salad, cole slaw, pickles etc. Part of the deli has a few tables and chairs to eat there. The other section is a small grocery of German items. Thin sandwiches and bad service are the new norm. Schiller's is a S Tampa institution. Always short on ambiance, the food and service was what you came here for. I got two sandwiches. The Italian Combo was so light on meat, it was nowhere near the value of the $28 I spent for two 6 inch sandwiches. The guy who waited on me was dismissive of my request to quit heating my sandwich. Whatever he was doing in the back of the store, he was not remotely concerned with the front. Trying to run kids around and get everyone fed in the evening, I won't stop at Schiller's any longer. read more

There aren't many options for German food in Tampa so by default Schiller's German Delicatessen gets four stars. The food is delicious, the German owners are super friendly, and everything in the deli is very fairly priced considering the items are imported from Europe. The building is dated and is in desperate need of renovations, but I can overlook this since the deli is family owned. I would suggest calling your sandwich order ahead because the service is a little slow. I always order the bratwurst lunch platter or the bratwurst reuben sandwich and the German potato salad. The grilled bratwurst and tangy sauerkraut are excellent and my toddler can inhale more brats than it seems humanly possible. I want the recipe for the warm German potato salad with crumbled bacon!!! Side note: if ordering to-go, check your order before leaving. On three separate occasions they have forgotten to add my potato salad to the bag. read more

This is a great unassuming little German deli and mart with all kinds of goodies. I've been here multiple times for lunch, purchased spaetzle to make at home and mini kegs. All of their products are authentic. I like the Bavarian sandwich for lunch. On an onion roll Pressed. Because it's much cheaper than that time I went to Munich. --- --- --- I've always enjoyed German food, so I bookmarked Schiller's quite some time ago, but was just finally able to make it in recently. My wife and I both had our eye on the roast beef sandwich, but it turned out they were out of roast beef. I'm not sure if that's normal due to it's incredible popularity, or if we just caught them at a bad day. Either way, while we were disappointed, fortunately there were a ton of great sandwiches on the menu. I opted for the #1 Schiller's Sandwich with macaroni salad and the wife ordered a Reuben with German potato salad. I was in love with everything on my plate. While it was a simple sandwich that I could have probably made at home, every bite was perfect. Any sandwich with thousand island and coleslaw on it is usually going to be an easy 5-stars for me and this was no exception. Plus, the macaroni salad was incredibly addicting - the only bad part was that I wished I had more! I enjoyed a bite or two of my wife's offerings, but I liked mine a lot more. The good thing was that she liked hers more, so anyone who says marriage is hard doesn't know what they're talking about :) I couldn't help but score some German chocolate before we paid for our food at the end, which I promptly scarfed down most of on the ride home. The (assumed) German woman who checked us out and (assumed) owned the place was super sweet and the type of business owner that you want to support, regardless of how much you enjoy the product. Unfortunately, the cafe table and chairs are in poor condition, and I don't think the floor has been washed in a very long time. The prep area, however, is clean and they practice clean food prep guidelines (gloves, washing hands, etc.) The staff is small and probably a bit overwhelmed ... but they definitely need new tables and chairs and a regular cleaning service. read more

Tiny little German deli that is equal parts deli and German specialty grocery. My first time there, I tried the kielbasa lunch special, and it was delicious. Huge piece of sausage served with spicy brown mustard, plus a side of German potato salad with bacon on top. It also came with a delicious fluffy roll. I also got a large Reuben to go, and even eaten cold later that night, it was excellent. Plenty of meat and it wasn't fatty or stringy. There are about eight tables or so to eat at inside, so at prime time lunch hour that might be a problem. Plus, I felt like the interior was a bit smoky; it actually made my eyes sting. Good go to spot for deli sandwiches, ham, corned beef, roast beef, turkey, etc. Can be grilled and add cole slaw, Russian dressing, Swiss cheese, etc. Regular sizes are priced very well at $4 - 6 and about $2.00 more for super sized. Great food, very cool and quaint location, great prices. Imagine walking into a local neighborhood deli 20 years ago, ran by a nice older couple that did everything the "hard" (read: best) way and knew their regulars. That's the vibe this place gives off. The food was amazing and authentic and clearly made by hand by people who cared about the final product. I loved how you placed your order, then wandered around the small grocery store, selected the drink, chips, desserts you wanted, then sat down and waited for your order. I had the Reuben with German potato salad and it was amazing.
