It's a great hole-in-the-wall place! I had the chili and half cheese sandwich. Both were homemade with spices they sell in the restaurant. This place is only open for breakfast and lunch, but I wish they would stay open for dinner too. You have to be careful what you order, main reason being, it's all prepared to order. So if you're in a hurry, you may be a little late. I recommend going when you have at least an hour for lunch. The staff was very friendly and humble. Its a perfect place to take a family member who wants a fairly quiet atmosphere with a home cooked atmosphere. They have amazing pie!! The owner Dana makes different flavors every week. We stopped in for dinner and were pleased with what we got. We both ordered a salad bowl and drinks. The restaurant is small with a dozen or so tables and heavily decorated with folksy artifacts. So it can be full up very easily and you may have to wait for a table. I would recommend it to anyone. read more

Wow! A hidden gem, so glad we stumbled upon it! Everyone was kind, our server was wonderful with keeping our drinks filled and prompt service. We visit Springfield regularly but hadn't tried Cook's for breakfast. It was good! The vegetables in the loaded veggie omelet were cooked al dente - perfect! The potatoes were griddle-fried and nicely done. Whole grain toast had body and flavor. The bacon was crisp and tasty. The coffee was pretty bland, but that wasn't a big deal. As we left we ordered a couple of quarts of chilli to take along, and they were very flavorful and not as peppery as expected. Service was very friendly and helpful. We'll definitely be back. We ordered two different types of chili. The white bean Chile was great. The grilled cheese on jalapeño bread was terrific. Not a fan of the egg salad, it was to sweet. But, it wasn't terrible. This restaurant is one of my favorites. It lacks parking and can get crowded, but the atmosphere and the food are really good. I've eaten both breakfast and lunch at Cook's and enjoyed the taste and the portions. I especially go back for the teralingua red chilli. I recommend Cook's. read more

This is an excellent place for breakfast. If you go away hungry, it is nobody's fault but your own. I highly recommend the sausage links, as well as the home-made breads (wheat, sourdough, and my personal favorite, jalapeno) The owner seems to be there all the time, which is a rarity at most places. read more

What a great little hidden gem! We had talked about checking this place out for years before finally giving it a try. It did not disappoint. If you're looking for a cozy, local place with home cooking, this is a winner. We had breakfast. Everything was good. We had to try a cup of chili (I know, chili for breakfast). The greasy pot version was artery clogging but tasty. The hash browns were great and shredded in house. My husband loved his biscuits and gravy. Also had to try the breakfast special which came with a half rack of ribs. Needless to say, we won't need lunch today! Everyone was friendly...even the customers spoke to each other. if you go here the food is OK, but the service today was inexcusable SLOW, we waited for 5-10 for table, 5-10 for drink order, 5-10 for food order to be taken and 45 minutes for the food. it does NOT take that long to scramble eggs and make toast. read more

Food is good, service is great. Staff is incredibly nice and friendly. Friday is the one day they are open for dinner and the special is fish. They smoke the meat in a big smoker out back. We usually eat breakfast both weekend days. Wonderful! Good coffee, and we are choosy. read more

Somewhat cramped interior... but cheap, good, home style food. 99% of the time, i get the red bean chili 3-way. If you are a fan of chili that comes with an inch of grease sitting on the top of it, go eat at the Den. If, on the other hand, you are like me and like your chili almost broth like, you will not find a better bowl of chili in Springfield. Monday through Thursday, they are only open for lunch. read more
