The calamari and the garlic cheese curds were very yummy. The speciality drink menu was awesome! We had the lavender lemon drops, sex in the woods, and the knockout punch! The mixologist knew her stuff as the drinks were very tasty, our food was served with perfect timing and our server was fun and quick. We were greeted both in and out and I highly recommend cooks to anyone seeking an impressive dinner with drinks that'll make you proud. We were initially very excited to dine at Cook's Steakhouse. We found out ahead of time that they cook with tallow instead of seed oils, which is important to us, so we even called in advance to ask if reservations were required. We were told no reservations were needed. My wife, two of her friends, and I came in, ordered drinks, and had an exceptional meal. The food quality was excellent, and the atmosphere was pleasant. We were enjoying ourselves, having conversation after dinner, and had spent around $300 on the meal. Then, unexpectedly, someone other than our great waitress came to the table and told us we needed to leave because there was a reservation for our table at 7:30. This was shocking and incredibly awkward since there were several open tables including the one next to us that was the exact same size as ours. We were not informed of any time limit when seated, and we had been explicitly told earlier that reservations were not required. Being asked to leave after spending that much money--while still sitting and talking--felt rude and unprofessional. What made it worse: we drove by about 30 minutes later (around 8:00 PM), and the table was empty. No one was seated there. Great food does not excuse poor hospitality. If there are time limits or reservations, customers need to be told up front, not pressured out mid-evening after a premium-priced meal. This experience completely overshadowed what would have otherwise been a great night. Unfortunately, because of how this was handled, we won't be returning. read more

Overall, this place was meh. The decor is lovely, but service was mediocre. In fairness, they only had 2 people working, so that made it hard to be stellar at service during the dinner 'rush'. The food was the real issue. We ordered fried raviolis and friend shrimp for appetizers and then rib eye meal and steak salad. The ribeye was decent, but over cooked (ordered med rare, got solid med). Came with Gruyère scalloped potatoes and rosemary carrots. Potatoes were ok, but similar to what you would get from a box. Carrots were flavorful, but very al dente. Waitress was kind enough to make recommendation to not order side salad & potatoes as they were included with meal. Steak salad was a complete miss. Blue cheese had little to no flavor, salad was iceberg lettuce on the edge of rusting, sirloin (bad steak to start) was delivered well done (ordered med rare). Dressing was from a bottle. Overall, salad lacked flavor and quality. A better salad can be had from a fast food restaurant for about half the price. So yeah - just meh on this one. read more

We have eaten there about 4 times now & each time has been really great! I do want to mention though the veggies are always cold & did notice that when I ordered halibut this last time, it was a tiny piece compared to what I have been served there in the past. Flavor was delicious. Just hardly got any halibut for $36. The staff was excellent. We had a little bit of a wait this time. It seemed they may have been short staffed, but were running back & forth and appeared to be doing the best they could. We definitely appreciate great customer service & food. The steak was really good. Salmon was i overcooked, and slathered in too much sauce. The vegetables that came with the meals had too much cheese sauce, and undercooked onions. Steamed, grilled, or baked veggies with seasoning would be good. Took some healthy items and made them inedible in my opinion. Went in here last week for a dinner with coworkers, we called ahead and made reservations to be accommodated for 6 people , our server was not happy to be there at all. We tried to be understanding but we were very hungry after working all day but we gave her the benefit of the doubt. It took 30 minutes for her to come get our drink order and we had let her know that 5 of us would be paying together and 1 would be separate since it was a work dinner, she was very annoyed and snapped at us that she would do it this once but in the future she couldn't ( and again we decided to just give her the benefit of the doubt ) . Our drinks come and she takes our order again with the same snappy attitude and we were all kind of shocked since we could see her taking other table's orders and she seemed fine with them so we felt like it was very pointed towards our table. We ended up waiting almost two hours to get our food and in that time she didn't bother asking us for a refill for any of our drinks , the other server ended up apologizing for her attitude and for the tardiness of our order and he brought out most of our food. In the time we were waiting we had asked the other server if our food would be longer since we had been one of the first parties to arrive before they got busy and tables that came after us were being served their food way before us, he seemed a little confused about it so he didn't say much and just apologized. When our server brought our checks out she tried to argue with us that the parties that were served before we did had been there first ( which was a lie) and didn't bother apologizing for her attitude or our food two hours.The restaurant has an automatic gratuity policy for parties of 6 or more which is fine and customary and we decided to not leave any additional tip since the service was very unpleasant but we ended up getting an extra 40 dollars tip charge on our statements. read more

This will be an honest review! I LOVE eating at Cook's. It's a great place to take friends, family, and a spouse. Food is always amazing, the staff has great customer service and always on top of making sure you get taken care of. Sometimes they have live music playing. Desert and steaks at this establishment are mouth watering! A good drink menu for someone looking for a bit of variety. The vinegaritte is top notch and compliments the salad. I'm back! have heard many mixed reviews about Cooks, but after a delicious lunch there last week, I decided to take my husband there for dinner tonight. We ordered with the intention of sharing our meals. Hubs got the ribs and I ordered the steak sandwich. We'll start with his meal. The ribs were fall off the bone tender. The sauce has just the right zestiness (is that even a word?) and they were very meaty! I'm not usually much of a traditional veggie eater, but I ate all of his carrots. The mashed potatoes were creamy and flavorful. Keep in mind this was just from sharing from his plate. Moving on to my order ... As I mentioned, I ordered the steak sandwich. I was a little disappointed when they told me they no longer serve the waffle fries, and I ordered the bacon siracha fries instead. The steak sandwich is served on sourdough with a white cheddar melted on it. It was tender, and the sourdough was grilled. It was a nice twist compared to other local steak sandwiches that are on heavy bread. The fries ... oh the fries! After my first few bites, I was sold, and my waffle fries disappointment disappeared! Will I go back? Yes! I think it's important to mention that a huge part of why I return is because of the staff and feeling welcome in a business. I appreciate that we felt welcome in Cook's. Was very dissatisfied. Took my friend there for her birthday lunch. Figured we would go to Cooks as it's pretty new to Elko. She had the bison burger, witch was very mediocre. I had the steak sandwich and it was terrible. Thin piece of meat that was extra well done and super dry. I ordered it medium rare. A piece of cheese on sourdough. Took my wife to dinner tonight and was least than impressed. Ordered a red beer that took 20 minutes to get which I didn't mind much since they were busy. After our order was taken, it took 45 mins to get our food in which I finally had to go up and ask when it was gonna be ready and stated that I didn't come to watch other people eat. After I asked, our food was promptly brought to our table. My wife and I started to add the condiments and found our food to be cold not even room temperature. We called the waitress over to show her the food at which time my wife had the waitress feel her sandwich for proof that it was cold. We were informed by the waitress that we should have come earlier because the food was better earlier in the day. We asked for our check paid and left. The waitress gets an "A" for effort but the food was horrible. There was only one overworked waitress working so the wait for everything was long. When the food came it was cold and/or undercooked (hard baked potato). My husbands meat tasted off so he did not eat it and ate 3/4 of my chicken fried steak. Had a terrific lunch there on 7/1. Special of the day was ribs. Waiter was looking for input on a new recipe they wanted to try. It was very good. We all have our particular tastes incredible sauces and rubs, and upon request, I suggested a little bit of a tweak. My compatriot had the Buffalo burger which I have had in the past, and can endorse as well. The facility was clean, waiter attentive. This is a newer restaurant in town that has been opened for less than a year I believe. I don't see them advertise as much as they should, except for on social media. As a veteran bartender it takes so much for me not to leave a tip but I simply could not leave these women my hard earned money. The margaritas were on the low end of mediocre and the salad was disappointing to say the least. The service wasn't just slow, i really got such attitude from the ladies I felt like an inconvenience and I wasn't wanted there. There was less than twenty guests in the building the whole time I was there (yes I counted after being in the industry and getting such terrible service). The fish tank in the front is filthy and the whole place seems run down. I don't celebrate Easter, but April 9th is my boyfriend who passed away birthday and I just needed to get out of the house and breathe. So this service was even more uncouth. The older bartenders kept joking and flirting with these younger men at the end of the bar, which I'm sure would of been an effective tip strategy had these employees been 20 years younger. I always have a good experience at the star and if they were open on Sunday I would of been there and avoided this horrendous experience. Never ever would suggest this place read more

Went to cooks on New Years, because the star was packed. when we showed up, it wasnt super busy, got our drinks ordered, some appetizer, and we each got a steak. Drinks come, along with the appetizer, no complaints at all, clams were amazing, coconut shrimp was alright. After we were done with appetizer, we sat there for an hour waiting for our food, after an hour of waiting, our waitress finally came by and apologized for our wait and offered to buy our drinks, so we agreed and said it was no big Deal we understood. Once the food came out, our steaks were all switched up (which no big deal there) and one of them was basically raw, barely seared on each side( when we asked for medium). No big deal we can take it home and eat it later. we ask for some boxes and get our check and it's $200, as we were going thru the bill, they charged us atleast $6 extra each steak, they charged us for the drinks that "they were going to pay for", and drinks that we didn't even get. Confronted the waitress about it, her comment was that prices were going up and so were theirs, (which again, no big deal) and there was supposed to be a paper on our table about it(which there wasnt), and that she would fix the tab. She came back and told us that she took the extra drink off and one other one "to cover the $2 extra price increase since we didn't read the sign on the door" and left the other drinks that we were told were going to be on the house. after giving my card she came back, threw the card and receipt tray on the table and walked off. i get times are hard right now but don't lie to customers, and don't have an attitude when confronted about it. Wow!! Great food. My husband had the Yellowstone with tater tots and I had the Bacon Sriracha Burger with onion rings. Both sandwiches were delicious!! Onion rings were cooked to perfection, everything came out hot, juicy and just like we ordered. The atmosphere is very charming and inviting, we went for lunch but would love to come back when drinks are flowing and music is playing. Let me start by saying the decor is nice except the upside down bit. It's quiet and clean which was appreciated. We were sat and no one came for 15 minutes. No drinks, nothing. A young man brought us bread but no appetizer plates. I flagged down the hostess Tara (who is amazing btw) and asked if she could find us someone to at least get drinks. She was shocked no one had helped us. She grabbed a pad, and said she would. She took our full order and served us, extremely well. I got the ribeye sandwich which is the thinnest ribeye I have ever seen- literally 1/8", cheese not even completely melted. Flavor was ok. Cheddar and bacon mashed potatoes were good but barely warm. My husbands meal was mediocre and they forgot his fries which Tara remedied when he noticed. Not the worst meal but $21 for a mediocre at best steak sandwich is just ridiculous. The menu is really similar to cooks in spring creek except the prices are higher. Overall the only thing that kept this from being a one star review was Tara and she mentioned next week was her last week we very likely will not eat here again. Disappointing at best. read more
