Fish Tales is right across from the Pleasure Pier in Galveston. You can't miss it with its giant fish tail on the roof. The place is nautical themed. Our party of 3 was seated right away. Our server was awesome! There were good choices on the kids menu. My fried flounder sandwich was really good! My husband said the fish tacos were just okay. We stopped at Fish Tales in Galveston before heading to Pleasure Pier, hoping for a nice meal with a view--and I will say, the location did not disappoint. We sat out on the balcony overlooking the ocean and the pier, and it was absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately, the experience started off rough. The service in the beginning was honestly terrible--slow, inattentive, and just not a great start. When our food finally came out, almost every dish at the table was wrong. My daughter's steak and my friend's steak were both overcooked, and my daughter didn't get the eggs or potatoes she had ordered with her crawfish. Surprisingly, my meal was the only one that came out right. I ordered the fried catfish and it was actually really good--crispy, flavorful, and definitely the highlight of the meal. The hush puppies, though, were not good at all. I ended up speaking to someone (who I believe was the manager), and that's where things turned around. He handled the situation extremely well--very professional, attentive, and clearly cared about making things right. He took items off our bill and gave us each a dessert, which we really appreciated. For dessert, I had the chocolate cake, and wow--it was absolutely delicious. Overall, it was a mixed experience. The view is amazing, the catfish and dessert were great, but the service and food mistakes made it frustrating. I might give it one more chance when I'm back in August, but I'm definitely a little hesitant. read more

Nostalgia is one hell of a drug. Back when my family used to vacation frequently in Galveston, I remember Fish Tales being the pinnacle of seafood. I remember getting a shrimp platter and having my first taste of coconut shrimp. I was surprised by how good it tasted. As I have grown into an adult, I wanted to revisit Fish Tales and see how it held up. Fish Tales is just one of the 10+ Landry's-owned locations in Galveston. You spend enough time in Galveston, you would think Tilman Fertitta is the mayor of the city with all the major resorts and restaurants off the Seawall being owned by Landry's Inc. Fish Tales sits right across from the Pleasure Pier, meaning the restaurant shares the large parking lot with Pleasure Pier. Does that mean if you eat at Fish Tales, they validate your parking? Nice try. It's a $15 buy-in to park next to Fish Tales. Already off to a great start. Now, seafood itself isn't the cheapest option, but the prices at Fish Tales are clearly more exorbitant than they need to be. Eight coconut shrimp with fries and coleslaw? Take a ballpark guess. It was $30. My girlfriend and I opted to split one order. Four shrimp for each of us. Thankfully, the staff were kind enough to split the meal across two plates without us even asking. The food was fine. Not $30 dollars' worth, but it was fried shrimp and fries. They're not reinventing the wheel here. As a whole, the staff were pretty on point. Granted, we went around 1:30 pm, so we were seated immediately. The atmosphere was a cute space, especially on the second floor overlooking the pier and the Seawall. The service was excellent across the board, and this review isn't meant to bash the staff in any way. But dropping $45 plus tip to eat four shrimp each is not the move. Families beware. Travelers beware. Tourists beware. The only way I would kinda recommend Fish Tales is if you are walking distance from the restaurant and just want a cool experience. There is no reason to pay $15 to go specifically to Fish Tales. Ay caramba. read more

Pleasure Pier is right across the street. It's Happy Hour M-F 11-7 so we lucked out. The Pina Colada is made with spiced rum. I like a cocktail napkin under my drink. The crab balls have a great flavor and came with onion rings. My favorite on the trio was the grilled shrimp. The server was very busy. I think cocktail sauce would have been nice on the seafood. I have to say I've never been treated as rude as when I walked into FishTails in Galveston,Tx. After walking in without any acknowledgment, my husband asked the host if we needed to be seated or could we sit in the bar to wait, and some girl butted into our conversation stating very rudely, there would be a 35min wait to be seated outside or inside and there wasn't room in the bar she would have to seat us at a table. Let's just say obviously not a good vibe in there, so we walked out, and people behind us walked out. After walking out around the corner, I could see the empty bar through the window? Maybe short staffed? My husband and I were spending one night in Galveston. We decided to try a restaurant on the seawall. Sadly we picked the wrong restaurant! Fish tales was overpriced and the food was awful. We sat outside so we could look at the water. Service was good they brought our food and drinks in a timely manner, but that is where the good ends. We ordered a half dozen oysters. The smell and flavor was off, and they were grainy, which made me think they were not cleaned properly. My husband ordered fried shrimp and he said it was not good. They were over cooked and there was more breading than shrimp. I rather go to Long John Silvers, then come back to this place. read more

I was here on 09/19/2025 at around 8pm and it was one of the few places for dining around pleasure pier. When I walked in they said there were no tables and the wait time was like thirty mins but when we exhibited disappointment, they asked us to go upstairs and it had so many open tables. No wonder why we weren't offered those in first place. The waitress was really nice, patient and helpful. As expected there wasn't a single vegetarian option but I get it, it's a beach town and a sea food restaurant. Waitress helped us order a pasta and make it vegetarian! My order Veggie pasta Crab cake Mojito Hush puppies Exorbitant prices but the taste was bleh! My extended family of 10 went to fish tales after spending a day at pleasure pier and it was nice! The food was fresh and tasted great. Celia took great care of our large party. We booked a stay near the east beach and this place was at a walkable distance from the pleasure pier. It's a pretty big restaurant with ample seating both indoor and outdoor. Thankfully we didn't have a wait time when we got there and that made it easy. The menu was a bit expensive as it was mostly seafood. The crab cab that we ordered for appetizer was pretty small but that was expected. Otherwise, the main course was pretty big in potion and was shareable. The service was decent too. Also, there is an ice cream bar (Blue bell) inside. Their pecan flavor was yummy. read more

Went on July 3rd for lunch! After paying the $20.00 parking fee we went inside. We have had lunch here previously and it has been great! We were seated, and shortly after tables all around us were seated. Their waiter and waitress appeared almost immediately, and ours was absent. The other tables drinks arrived, and their orders taken. Still no waiter for our table. A waitress came by and asked if we had been served. We politely said no. A few minutes later, our waiter (Andrew) came up and was apparently upset. He took our drink order and left again. He delivered our drinks and left again. Upon his return we were able to order. Upon arrival our lunches were lacking. The shrimp was previously frozen, not fresh from the Gulf. The sides were obviously from Sysco, not fresh made. Not a memorable lunch for a GOOD reason. Andrew seemed a little less belligerent, but at that point we decided to pay our tab and leave. Absolutely no longer a big fan of this restaurant, since the food and staff have become frazzled by the summer season crowd. Much better seafood, from the gulf is available very close by. We really enjoy Fishtails! We do a little bit of cruising out of Galveston, and this is always one of the places we eat while we're in town. It's a really great location, right across from the Paradis dock area. They have their own parking lot, and so far we haven't had to pay the park! This time we shared the coconut shrimp. Comes with french fries and coleslaw. And coconut shrimp dipping sauce, which was very good! It came out surprisingly quick, and everything was as we wished! We love the upstairs balcony seating, which overlooks the boardwalk across the street. It's a casual atmosphere, well-maintained and clean. They also sell T-shirts and stuff. They have a bluebell ice cream bar inside as well. We definitely will continue to come back and highly recommend you try them if you have not! read more

We had a very disappointing experience here--twice now. We first visited about a month ago and received poor service, but decided to give them another chance today. Unfortunately, it was the same situation all over again. We were told at check-in that the wait time would be 25 minutes, but we ended up waiting a full hour before being seated. Once we were finally seated, no one acknowledged us at all--even though it's a Sunday and the restaurant was not busy. After sitting there for quite a while, I had to get up and ask the hostess if someone could come help us. She said, "Oh, they haven't gotten your drinks yet," and I had to explain that no one had even come to our table. Eventually, a waitress came over and said, "I'm sorry, no one told me y'all were here." At that point, we already had a feeling the service would continue to be slow, so we ordered our drinks and food at the same time. Another 30 minutes passed with no food and no check-ins from our server. I had to get up again just to ask for a status update. When the food finally arrived, we had to ask twice just to get silverware. Overall, the entire experience felt disorganized and frustrating from start to finish. I would have left no tip based on the service, but gratuity was automatically included--which was definitely not deserved. Sadly, we will not be returning. read more

Since we opted to sit inside, we were taken all the way in the back, with no ocean view. There were tables available at the front, and servers were sitting at the front. We sat and waited, finally a male server noticed us and eventually came to take our drink order, even tho it seemed a bother to him. I ordered coconut shrimp and it was 5 little shriveled shrimp. It's hard to miss Fish Tales when you're in Galveston. Right across from Pleasure Pier, they have purposely made themselves look like the natural choice for a casual sit-down meal after a day at the beach and the pier. They serve this market well, with a reliable menu and a decent amount of seating. However, if you continue a few blocks in any direction, you'll find better restaurants. I had one meal here a few years ago, and when my family wanted to go there this year, I tried to steer them elsewhere, but eventually figured they'd have to experience it for themselves. The food was ok, but sitting on the second story patio, the street noise was almost impossible to talk over. Sure enough, we found better restaurants the rest of the trip. One redeeming aspect of Fish Tales is their walk-up ice cream counter. It's the place to get a classic ice cream cone to eat on the beach! read more

Oof. Ok so usually love this restaurant. This experience started off with realizing that the only ramp into the restaurant is on the complete opposite side of the restaurant from the parking lot. So since we had a stroller we either had to walk exponentially farther to use it or just pick it up and carry it up the steps. Not a huge deal for us but for people who really need it, like if they are using walkers or canes, having to walk that much farther I'm sure it is a much bigger problem. Food was good but while eating I notice a huge roach crawl across the wall at the end of the table (it's right against the table, not like it was just nearby), it was in my face). I smashed it with my napkin and we notified the waiter. It did leave us pretty disappointed that the Manager never came to the table to apologize for the issue. It leaves me wondering if there's roaches crawling across tables in the front of the restaurant what the kitchen looks like. Hopefully, they have an exterminator swing through very soon. read more
