Our coworker, recommended Cooper's Old Time Pit Bar-B-Que. A lesser known place, than the famous ones, but they turn out stellar "Que"! [From their website] "Cooper's Old Time Pit Bar-B-Que is honored to be the 'Best Of The Best' in the barbecue business and home of the original World Famous "Big Chop." now you can get a taste of Texas Hill Country BBQ that restaurant reviewers have raved about!" The inside seating is grab your own picnic tables or share with others. They have a huge outside dining area with additional seating. Also, they have a bar area to sit at. Order your meats by the pound, get sides, dessert, etc and pay at the end of the line. They do have other merchandise for sale like beef jerky, bbq sauce, etc. Two separate multi-user men and women's restrooms. Complimentary stewed beans, bbq sauce, jalapeño, pickles, onions, and bread. For dinner, I ordered the... Beef Rib - really tender, yet firm enough to stay on the bone. A good beefy bbq flavor and smokiness. Brisket - The brisket was tender, smokey, melt in your mouth delicious! The fat cap was was so good. LOL. I liked the Brisket a lot better than the Beef Rib. Mac-N-Cheese (bacon & jalapeño topping) - the noodles were cooked well and the cheese was cream and perfectly coated each noodle. The crisp bacon & jalapeño topping was free and no extra charge, really boasted this side. Banana Pudding - a classic southern dessert done well. Sweet Tea - We're in Texas, nothing beats the heat better than cold Sweet Tea. Others in my group who ordered said that the Roast Chicken was good. Unfortunately, the smoked Turkey was dry. Thank you Paula for the recommendation. We loved the place. Support your local business!

Brisket and jalapeno cheddar sausage

(4.25 stars) A long-running Texas barbecue joint known (for better or for worse) as being George W. Bush's favorite, Cooper's largely lived up to its reputation. The restaurant has a classic look (wood, brick, and ducts), and the menu - meats priced by the pound on a chalkboard - adds to the retro appeal. Those meats are cut to order by a pitmaster. After making your selection, you proceed down a cafeteria-style line and pick your sides. Sauce, pickles, and Wonder Bread are free. We opted for some brisket, a jalapeno sausage link, potato salad, and creamed corn. The brisket was tender and flavorful if a bit fatty while the sausage boasted a firm bite and a winning combination of spicy and cheesy. Unexpectedly, the creamed corn ended up being a highlight. If that's a side you usually avoid, Cooper's version may end up converting you. That said, the potato salad was nothing special and the sauce was very tomato-and-vinegar-forward. As to be expected given Cooper's location and reputation, prices are also quite high (as in almost $40 a pound for brisket). That's not outrageous for a "name" BBQ place in Austin though if I had to pay that after waiting in a long line, I might walk away disappointed. Cooper's is not the best Texas BBQ you're likely to find, but it's a pretty damn solid representation thereof.

Dog friendly patio with great fans/air circulation

Service is quick and easy as you just make your way down the line similar to a cafeteria line. You pay for the meat by weight so it's easy to get food family style. The meat is wrapped in butcher paper and they have foil and bags available for leftovers. We had pork ribs, brisket, and turkey along with corn on the cob, potato salad, beans, pickles, and apple cobbler with ice cream. The turkey was ok but not as flavorful as I've had. I loved the ribs and brisket. The potato salad also wasn't my favorite so I will definitely get other sides on my next visit. I did like the cobbler and ice cream for dessert. The cobbler was hot with not too much crust and crust that had a slight crunch. The dog friendly patio was a great searing option with large tables and fans that made it extremely cool and comfortable on a hot day.

Ooof none of the food we had was good or enjoyable. Waste of $70 today. The brisket was dry and disappointing. The sides were missing flavor. Disappointing after having incredible food at Franklin's and Terry Black's. Worst part was while eating my stomach started to hurt and within minutes this food sent me to the bathroom :( no other food issues with previous places we've gone to.

The first night we walked by and we were still adjusting to the time so we weren't hungry yet but decided to pick up some brisket to take back to the hotel for dinner. It was delicious. The next day we had prebooked a Downtown Austin walking food tour and this was also on the tour guide's list. (So you know it's legit). Personally enjoyed the brisket and their bbq sauce (sauce was not too sweet and more towards vinegary side which I really liked). This place is spacious! It has a bar upstairs and a backyard with tons of tables and seating. The great thing about this spot is they cook all day so food is usually ready to order.

Fun popular place in downtown Austin. Got the meat sweats from eating so much! Love the decor and bar area. Ample seating upstairs for larger groups. The sides were my favorite - banana pudding, cobblers, grilled corn. Pro tip: Can get pretty crowded so be patient as you wait in line to order.

I had a lunch meal here in January while in town and was pleased with my experience. Coopers is located downtown but don't think that you can't get very good barbecue here because you can. I ordered the 1/2 chicken for $13.75 and added potato salad for another $5.50. Beans come with the meal. Inside there is a downstairs dining room and upstairs a large dining area with a full bar and a small stage. This is a counter service restaurant with a serving line. My chicken was juicy and flavorful (4). The beans were also very good (4). Here you serve yourself the beans from their bean bar. I like that concept. Refills allowed. The potato salad was mustard based and was just ok. Not bad but not something I wouldn't order again (3). My impression of Coopers is positive and believe this is a good place to come get your Q fix without going to other places and waiting in line for 2 hours and paying X3 more $.

This is our first meal in Aus, just a few steps from our hotel. Food is good, there is a lot of selections and complementary side dishes. Their brisket is so good & their beef rib falls off the bone, not a fan of their sirloin though, its a little bit chewy. Their meat is not that as seasoned which I don't mind bec i would like to taste the beef. When i tried their sauce, its too vinegary for me. Desserts are good as well. Overall it did not disappoint, given the ambiance & friendliness of their staff.

Small coleslaw

I got one beef rib and half pound of brisket. I would've been fine with a quarter pound of brisket because the beef rib was so big. It was so rich that I couldn't finish it. Firstly, the texture was good and tender. But I agree with some of the other reviews where the singular tangy sauce without alternatives made it one-note. And I'm not a big sauce on my bbq guy. I did appreciate the free bread and beans, along with raw onions and pickles and jalapeños. I also got the coleslaw which is a good decent version of it that I'd get again if I came back here.

We went closer to 9pm and a lot of their items are sold out. (Only thing left was briskets and pork ribs.) our brisket has a lot of fat. The meat part is probably less than 1/3. The food quality and flavors especially the side dishes are great. They also have a free bean pot and you can self-serve.

If you're looking for classic Texas BBQ with a lively Austin vibe, Cooper's Old Time Pit Bar‑B‑Que is a must-visit. The BBQ was exactly what you'd hope for -- tender, juicy brisket with great smoke flavor, flavorful ribs, and generous portions. The sides hit the spot too: creamy potato salad, beans, fresh bread, and perfectly grilled corn on the cob. Simple, hearty, and done right. What really stood out was the atmosphere. It was busy and energetic, with people lining up to grab their plates, chatting, and enjoying the experience together. It felt very "Austin" -- casual, social, and welcoming. Great place for groups or when you want that authentic BBQ hall energy. We had a group and ordered food ahead of time. Service moved efficiently even with the crowd, and everything felt well-organized. No frills, just good food and good vibes. Definitely a spot I'd come back to when craving real Texas BBQ. Highly recommend!

Perfectly cooked brisket, moist and delicious. Pork ribs and sauce, tasty & loaded with meat...friendly service too! They had baked potatoes so everyone was happy!

Ask the Community - Cooper's Old Time Pit Bar-B-Que

Are the sauces gluten free?

They don't use a traditional bbq sauce. You have the option of having your choice of meat either dipped in a vinegar based sauce, or served dry. Since I don't need to monitor my gluten intake I didn't ask that question.

Are most of the meats gluten free?

Verify with the pit master, but they told my wife they were. Enjoy!

Do they have bottomless mimosa's for brunch?

No all you can drink specials.

Does coopers have outdoor seating?

Yes, a back patio

Is this place ayce?

No, you buy items by the pound.

How are the wait times around opening?

I don't mind to do that if I can see a beautiful lady baby

So they have a bbq sampler platter? If not, what's the smallest qty you can buy of the meats?

Meat is sold by the pound, so you Cana ask for small portions of as many meats as you like. However, the meat guy measures with his eye. I asked for a quarter pound of brisket, but at the cashier it weighed more than 3/8-lb. so it can get expensive… Read more

Does Coopers BBQ Have a 6 Pack of Beer? if so what is the price before tax?

Yes they do. It depends on the type of beer.

Is it byob?

Not to my knowledge

Does Ilano lounge serve the full menu?

I don't know

Do the ribs require sauce or are they flavorful without it?

Ribs are incredible. Coopers food is all great without sauce.

There's this huge building that looks like an unassuming co-working space, but it turns out that there is a whole fun world behind it! They have a great setup: there's a little playground, a paddle board court, corn hole, etc to keep kids entertained and they had a huge screen set up to watch the game. And tents! Thank you for having tents and misters! The ambience is spot-on. Overall, we were happy with everything that we ordered to eat. The buffalo cauliflower bites were a bit too saucy, but nice and smoky. The CM Chopped Salad--which was NOT chopped--had a ton of good veggies and a fun dressing. Our daughter managed to finagle two orders of chicken fingers and those were slightly better than the normal junk that comes out. Cold beers on tap, Aperol Spritzes on a hot day--what is there to complain about? We were glad to be leaving when we did because the place was starting to get slammed and rowdy and not as appealing, so be mindful of the partying witching hour. But for a late afternoon World Cup meet-up with friends, this was a good time. Four stars.

For reasons that make no sense to any experienced summer festival-goer, the Q2 powers-that-be decided to make this a "no re-entry" event, meaning that attendees are basically locked in the stadium with very few options for relief from the heat. Thank heaven for PointsBet Sports Bar! PointsBet Austin is located inside of Q2 stadium on the north end near the Zebra Gate, up some stairs just to your right as you enter the gate. They have cold air-conditioning, at least one phone recharging station, a few table games, seating for at least 50 people, and standing room for a couple hundred others. Plus, there's a huge horseshoe bar serving plenty of canned and mixed beverages. The whole north wall is floor-to-ceiling windows, providing plenty of natural light. Lastly, there are 18 flatscreens around the walls showing various sporting events and during our concert, a couple were streaming a live view of the concert stage. As expected, prices were "high" (like everything else in Austin these days), but they were in line with pricing available at the other beverage stands outside in the stadium, so we didn't pay any more than we would have out there for the same drink. According to their website, PointsBet opens 3 hours before soccer matches on regular Q2 game days, and it's one of the few air-conditioned places where non-VIP attendees can get a break from the goings-on outside.
