I'm a hard person to please when it comes to food. I'm picky. I dislike certain seasonings. Sometimes portions are too small and I'm too big for small portions. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised and satisfied with my visit recently. I went on a Sunday afternoon and expected to wait at least forty-five minutes. Thankfully, since I was half of a party of two, it was only fifteen minutes (especially since it grew more busy after we were seated). Being that I hadn't been to Copeland's in years, I was excited to see what was going on. There was Sunday Brunch going on, buffet-style. Seeing how Copeland's is a more upscale style restaurant from say, Golden Corral, I expected conditions that were more favorable. I got just that. All the food was laid out well and covered well. There was plenty to choose from, from biscuits and eggs and bacon, to even prime rib and brisket and an omelet station. Each of the servers at the stations were friendly and personable and bring out fresh food in a timely manner. I didn't see a single item out for more than five seconds (not exaggerating). The woman manning the prime rib and brisket was clearly a chef; she described the au jus sauce perfectly (without me telling her that, as a Chicagoan, I'm familiar) and paired it well with the brisket. She was very polite and knowledgeable. School me while you serve me! I piled my plate high with breakfast and yes, got seconds, and yes, I was good and full. All of the food was cooked very well and still warm to hot when it got to my table. Even the server Christian was very friendly as he tended to all of the tables in the section I was seated. He joked with each person in a personalized manner; he offered a suggestion to another patron based on her allergies and such to certain foods. I was impressed. My husband and I usually go out of town to celebrate our anniversary but this year decided to go to Copeland's instead since my husband is from Louisiana and we both love the food there so much. On Saturday, we came there at lunch to celebrate our 16th wedding anniversary. Of course the food is AMAZING, the sangria perfect, and we ended up seated in a quiet corner in the back of the restaurant. The most romantic music played softly as we both enjoyed our time together there so much!! Our server, K.C., was upbeat, friendly, and absolutely attentive. He definitely helped make our day extra special!! All of your staff there is so wonderful but I am so thankful we were seated at his table on Saturday!! See pictures -- I ordered SHRIMP STUFFED WITH LUMP CRABMEAT. And what I was served were 3 fried balls that resembled meatballs. Each ball contained a tiny shrimp, encased in a heavily breaded crusty fried ball that contained mostly all crab filler. No lump crabmeat to be found and the shrimp was the size of what you would use in shrimp salad. I thought for sure the server must have brought me the wrong entree, and she thought maybe she had ---- but then she brought me 3 more of those balls! She was nice in trying to salvage my dinner, but she clearly has never had real "Shrimp stuffed with lump crabmeat". Tasted Copeland's shrimp and tasso pasta at a food tasting fundraiser and have been wanting to visit and enjoy the entire meal. Unfortunately, the restaurant did not maintain the same level of flavor as the cook at the food tasting event. The sauce was very thin, the flavor of the tasso was lacking, and the shrimp tasted frozen. The seafood stuffed mushrooms are overpriced for the amount of food provided. My wife said that her Caeser salad with chicken was good, but that's the only positive. Oh, and they were completely out of Abita Amber. I've visited New Orleans many times with my wife, but we are probably not going to return to Copeland's. read more

The first New Orleans themed restaurant I visited because I missed home. First off, although originally from New Orleans, it doesn't remind me of the authentic flavors. It's a good mock-up. My favorite are the eggplant menu options. My least favorite is the red bean and rice (its Popeye's recipe with andouille sausage). The drinks are amazing. The desserts are to die for. You can't just throw a dessert table 10 inches from a table of guests because you can. The flow was all kinds of off. The patio entrance was in the middle of the waffle line. The food was seriously lacking. I wish I would of taken a picture of the burnt bacon I saw walking in. The staff wasn't happy either. Some side notes, the orange juice, for 3.99, well, that's far too much for a glass of OJ. The beigennets were like potato chips. The sausage gravy was basically creamy sausage water. All in all, don't be greedy. Remove some tables and set up a real buffet. Hire a consultant if you need to. Half the challenge of a buffet is the flow. I've been to Copelands several times before, and the experience varies each time. However, I've never had a true "so bad I'm not coming back" experience. My wife and I went last night for our 11 year anniversary, and it was a great visit. I had the crabcakes on the zucchini pasta, and she had the grilled chicken on the mashed sweet potatos. Both were cooked perfectly. (My dish was actually brought out to me without the crabcakes somehow... but that was quickly corrected when I pointed it out.) Had we not been so stuffed, we would have gotten the Banana Fosters - which is AMAZINGGGGGGG. It used to be served the "real" way, with freaking fire! But, they since have stopped doing that... bummer. Our server was exceptional. I wish we could have her at every restaurant. By far this was my best experience at Copelands. I was impressed by the service and how far they were willing to go for my family. My father has a hearing issue, so loud noises can affect him. When they first tried seating us near a family with children, I asked if they could move us elsewhere. When they moved us to the bar area, where the noise level was still high, I kindly asked them again to move us. They finally moved us to a booth in the back that fit us perfectly. I was happy that they did it with understanding and no complaining. Our waitress Patrice was awesome and super sweet! She made sure my dad had sausage in his red beans and rice, just like he had in New Orleans, and extra honey and biscuits. The special food for Mardi Gras was delicious and plenty to take home to enjoy later. The jambalaya had a unique twist of bow tie pasta instead of rice. The hurricanes were just like Kool-Aid and you couldn't tell there was alcohol in them. We had a great time as a family and we're happy to have visited for a fun holiday. read more

Used to love coming here for happy hour... they just changed it and took everything off.. the new happy hour is straight garbage and the manager Stephanie was extremely rude about it. The drinks are prepare now, she claims they have always been. I've been sitting at the bar here for about a decade and have never been served a premise cup of juice passed off as a drink. For 20$, you get all you can eat brunch, which includes, beef brisket, fried chickens, turkey, shrimp, etc, in addition to the uzsh breakfast items. Add 8$ and it's all you can drink mimosas. This place was poppin on Sunday. Holla! Don't be a noob like me and go bizarko over the scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy. That stuff is child's play. Walk towards the back and there's beef, turkey, ham, and other goodness like fried catfish. THEN, only then, should you go back for the shrimp, chicken wings, cajun rice, etc. Afterwards, you should go back for more catfish if your plate permits. The meats were actually a bit dry, but it didn't rain on my parade too much. There is also an omelet stand, where you can get custom-made omelets. As for sweets, I really enjoyed the bread pudding, it was nice and warm and actually not too heavy. They also have a waffles station, french toast, and bananas foster. Copeland's also has items such as marshmellow and pineapple to dip in the chocolate fondue. There's also an assortment of melons near the biscuits. The food was above average for buffet. I was really craving some chicken and shrimp gumbo but all they had was crawfish and shrimp which was a little disappointing but I tried it and it was really good! Sunday Brunch Buffet? Uh, YES PLEASE! There are food stations placed through out the whole restaurant so not one are gets too crowded at once. The Beginning of the buffet line starts with all the usual's, eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits the size of my fist, thick, creamy sausage gravy to go on top. But don't get too excited, because here comes the good stuff. Along with breakfast food, Copeland's lay out a great selection of their staples, Jambalaya, fried catfish, mac n cheese, and even red beans and rice! (BTW, this is not a place you want to go if you have an eventful day planned out, because you won't be any good after you eat all this!) After you get past all the great Cajun food, you are presented with french toast and made to order Belgian Waffles, with various fruits and toppings. And then BEYOND THAT, is the prime rib and carved turkey breast. On the other side of the restaurant is the made to order omelet station where the chef is equipped with a couple pans and an extensive array of omelet ingredients from vegetables to crab. Across from the omelet station is the dessert area. Multiples desserts available but the only thing I can remember is the White Chocolate Bread Pudding. It's so creamy and warm and delicious and oh man.... I'm going back this weekend.... All you can drink Champagne for $3.99 and Mimosa's $6.99, sure, why not? Omelette station: Anyway you want them....I liked the fact they had shrimp available...so of course that is what I got. Shrimp with Cajun butter, spinach, bacon, onions (red) and peppers. I turned out great. It was rather big...so keep that in mind. Hot bar: Cheese grits (OMG OMG OMG) that was my favorite, bacon, sausage (turken and pork), eggs, biscuits and gravy, bourbon chicken, salads, catfish, macaroni, Cajun pasta (turkey), zucchini and squash, chicken wings, Jambalya, ......im sure im missing something. Waffle station: Waffles, beignets and French toast. banana's foster is available by order. Carving station: Prime Rib medium rare, Roast, ham. Dessert Station: Bread pudding (banana and raspberry), chocolate fountain, strawberries, pineapples, cookies, brownies and a berry mousse .... all for $23...not bad Drinks are not included If you want unlimited mimosas its $9.99 additional with brunch..... My wife chose Copeland's for dinner on our anniversary. We both had a fantastic time! The food was amazing! I had gumbo and the crab stuffed catfish. They were both perfect. Parking was a bit of an issue as I had to circle the parking lot three times and then got myself into a space that was smaller than I would have preferred. The wait for a table was reasonable but it seemed to take a while to get our food. But it was definitely worth the wait! We will be returning regularly! read more

I dined at Copeland's last night while on business in Jacksonville. I ordered Shrimp Scampi, which was good, but not great. We shared an appetizer plate with some type of fried bow tie shaped cracker? not bad with the spinach artichoke dip. There was also some kind of fried cheese ball with crab maybe, very good. One of us had the stuffed shrimp, which came with a salad (if he remembered correctly). The 5 shrimp, sitting alone on a large plate, looked kind of meager, but he said they were good. My companions said the bread pudding was very good. I was excited to see Banana's Foster on the dessert menu, but disappointed that it was not flambeed tableside (I don't think it was flambeed at all). I wasn't happy to see the 18% gratuity tacked on for our table of 5. Our total bill averaged $47 per person and we shared one appetizer and two desserts and only had one drink apiece. Copeland's serves New Orleans "style" cuisine where you can order Jambalaya, Étouffée, and many items that contain Andouille Sausage. True to the The Big Easy theme, this place has a sizeable bar with a reasonable selection of spirits. The bartender was pleasant, but served me the wrong drink, (Dewars, a blended Scotch, instead of the single malt Glenmorangie that I ordered) which she quickly replaced upon learning of the mistake and apologized. At the table, we had an excellent waiter who knew the menu very well, knew the specials of the day and, when prompted, made some good recommendations. The waiter also let me know that I could add more or subtract from any of the menu items and that many customers come in and can order an almost custom meal. It is rare to find such flexibility in a menu. At the recommendation of the waiter, I ordered the Jambalaya over bow tie pasta, with blackened chicken and Andouille Sausage. Although I am used to Jambalaya served over red beans and rice, this Jambalaya over pasta was delicious. Nice and spicy, and the bow ties held the sauce well. However, it was a little light on chicken and sausage, otherwise it was perfect. I would come back here, however would make sure to try one of the Po'Boys that I saw on the way out. read more

Was seated quickly but service was sad and slow. Waited forever for refills on drinks, and then waiter poured ice tea into a diet Coke glass. Asked for tartar sauce on side, it was put on the sandwich anyways. Never even got dinner napkins! I've come to the conclusion that the food at Copelands is good, maybe even great. The crab cake and shrimp alfredo is ridiculously amazing, and they have a wine that I never get the name of that pairs lovely with it! Its the service thats either a hit or miss. The last two times I've come here I've been pleasantly surprised but if I would have based my review on my first experience here there would've been far less stars. I have been to Copeland's several times and every time was simply wonderful. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. That is important to me. The place was spotless and I liked the decor. As far as the food is concerned, it has ALWAYS been wonderful. We all enjoyed the different dishes. They were tasty and properly spiced. Oh, one last thing, the noise level was quite low. I really loved the fact that I could actually hear what the people in my dinner party were saying!! This place has become my go-to restaurant. I haven't been here for dinner in years, and while I really enjoy New Orleans cuisine Copelands just wasn't grabbing me at dinner time. Yes, I've been for lunch and brunch a couple of times, and the food was pretty good. But tonight, I went with a group from work and was impressed. We started with the Crab Stuffed Beignets and the Buffalo Spring Rolls. The spring rolls definitely give you the taste of buffalo chicken, but the beignets were excellent - crab cake filling in tempura batter and fried, with a remoulade sauce. Nice. Instead of my usual Red Beans & Rice, I ordered the Grilled Salmon Cobb Salad. The salmon was cooked perfectly, lightly seasoned, crisp and buttery on the outside and soft inside. Along with a full plate of Cobb, it was a complete meal. The house dressing is a balsamic which was very good, although they put a little too much dressing on - and when I got down closer to the plate it was starting to get over-powering. But overall, I was surprised at the execution and quality. Copelands can get ridiculously busy at peak times - which is when I have dined here before - and that tends to degrade quality with all the pressure on the staff to keep it moving. So coming in on a rainy weekday evening may be one of the keys to getting their best performance. The place wasn't crowded at all. Went to dinner last Thursday and it was very good. The small sized seafood pasta dish we ordered was great. Not to small or too big and flavorful.
