Food blew my hair back. No really, this place is something special. Restaurants seem to be very much all the same - but not Copeland's. New Orleans food which you'd be hard pressed to find anywhere else in the city of Jax. For picky eaters, they also have the typical american food which is also superb. Our waiter, a man with a mustache (can't remember his name for the life of me), was very honest with us regarding the food choices. The recommendations were pinpoint, from the wine to deserts. Most times servers just say everything is good so it was refreshing to hear sincere opinion. My wife's jambalaya was overly spicy, and our waiter did mention this before and said he'd talk to the chef. The chef, who we liked very much, was understanding saying they held back on the spice but still put a lesser amount than usual in it... he was kind and promptly made another jambalaya this time with no spice at all. My wife was very happy in the end. 10/10. COPELAND'S IS A TREASURE IN PLAIN SIGHT. The only criticism I have is that the main dining area definitely needs to be refurbished. I walk in and see the bar dining area to my left which looks sleek and modern with all the booths being occupied (no surprise). We then got escorted by the hostess to the main dining area which is in need of a refurbishing. The booth had tears in it, and the carpet (yes, carpet in a restaurant!!!!) was peeling up towards the end. Owners need to do a better job in this respect. 1/2 the restaurant looks great which is the bar area, other 1/2 is closer to a run-down applebee's. Spend the money to eliminate this disparity. Having worked in the hospitality business years ago this was blatant and if the bar booths hadn't been filled I would have sat there instead. Had a really good brunch here. The waffles were the best damn waffles I have ever tasted! Our waitress Tori was awesome! The place was packed but it was just my husband and I so we waited maybe 10 minutes before we were seated. The food was delicious, The cheese grits were phenomenal. We arrived around lunchtime and were seated in under 30 minutes - pretty good considering the crowd. So here's the highlights: visit the waffle station, the Belgian waffles are excellent and great with fresh fruit or the syrup with bananas. The shrimp and fried catfish were seasoned well - grilled veggies were a plus and our waitress (Kayla) was excellent. Hubby also recommended the cheese grits and Jazzy wings. The downside: the desert station was a let-down - both bread puddings were undercooked and had to be returned to the kitchen (hence the other 1/2 waffle for desert). You can skip the Mac and cheese - the beignets and French toast were stale. Overall I'd likely return for brunch, but RCBC remains my #1 spot for brunch. :) read more

The waiter we have is really nice but talks super low so hard to hear could not tell what she was saying . Not trying to be mean but talk louder so every one can hear you. The food is spicy not to bad but could be hot for some people... and over all it took N hour to get are food and the bad thing is people who came when after we did got there food be for we did and left. So the waiting time here on a Saturday is crazy but Don't be surprised for the long wait. But the food was alright . There no need to have us wait so long got there at 7:15 it's now 9:24 and we are heading home. It was so loud could not hear the date at my table. It's been about a year since I've been to Copeland's. I've been craving it for awhile and decided to make a trip on a Friday evening. There was a wait of about 7 minutes. I made it in time for happy hour and ordered 2 drinks which were $5 each and they were pretty strong. We ordered the buffalo chicken rolls, spicy herb fried chicken, crawfish fettuccine with added shrimp, and the red beans and rice. The buffalo rolls were decent but it wasn't as hyped up as I thought they would be. The dipping sauces on the side is what makes the dish. The "spicy" fried chicken didn't taste the least bit spicy. It's half a chicken ( 4 pieces) served with french fries. There actually wasn't much flavor at all and it was served to us barely luke warm. Popeyes spicy is wayyy better and cheaper to be honest. The pasta was good and nicely flavored. My bf enjoyed the red beans and rice. The sausage was slightly burnt but he actually liked it that way. Customer service was excellent and prompt. First time to a Copeland's in almost 10 years, most have disappeared. Everything was fantastic! We were seated right away, we purposely went before dinner rush. Another waiter took our drinks while the waiter was finishing up another table, that's impressive. When Troy was finished with the bigger table, took our order, answered our questions. Timing was pretty darn close to perfect. We ordered the Tasters Plates, which is awesome, can have a lot of different dishes! We treated it like Tapas...mmmm delish! To Mr Michael G. Owner My daughter wanted to treat me to brunch yesterday after having great recommendations from dear friends. We planned the perfect day out, went to church early and headed there around 11:30. The waiting was about 30min, which wasn't so bad. We ate and headed home... We live 3 miles down the road and by the time we arrived I was sick to my stomach and spent the rest of the day "running" to the bathroom... I didn't have anything else to eat until today...I was miserable. Today I called and asked to speak to a manager. I told him what happened to me. I asked if they can at least refund one meal since my daughter did not get sick. I didn't think my request was unfair. He then proceeded to only ask for my name and number and said; "See, the way we do this is, we take your information and investigate... we cook everything from scratch...I will call you back tomorrow OK." I have never heard anything like this! What Exactly will he investigate when he didn't even take the information from my receipt? Also, it is possible for just one person to get sick... it doesn't take much, just one bad piece of seafood or chicken will do it, trust me I WAS SICK!!! There is somethings on the menu that are amazing and prepared great and others could use some attention. Ask the waiter what they recommend. Sunday brunch is great and even for $30 you get your moneys worth. The mimosas are great and bottomless for $10. Compared to other Sunday Bruches this is about $3-4 more and taste pretty munch the same. If you are looking for something different then definitely try Copelands. read more

Copeland's had some pretty good food, but was definitely some of the slowest service you can possibly have at a restaurant. It took 15-20 minutes to receive first, plus the replacement drinks. The other part that was to long was it took 2 and a 1/2 hours to eat dinner at this restaurant when it should only take a little over an hour. It is a little odd how Copeland's restaurant is a Cajun restaurant that doesn't really serve much original Cajun dishes. The management for this restaurant needs to start having their servers and kitchen pay more attention to the customers and working on the production of the food a little quicker. read more

My husband and I went here for the first time this weekend in celebration of a family members birthday. I wasn't sure what to expect because I didn't get a chance to look it up before we went. This is a great restaurant. The food is made fresh and can be customized any way you want it, (except the gumbo), which is great, especially because my Ma, is allergic to shrimp. I ordered the chicken with yams. The chicken was seasoned perfectly. The Yams were light having a little piece of pie, but not too sweet. It's a perfect balance of salty, sweet, and savory with the addition of the fried onions and a biscuit. My husband had the Chesapeake Salmon. It had crabmeat on top with a sauce which prevented the Salmon from becoming too dry. Others ordered Salmon without the sauce and said it was a little dry. The Caramel Praline Cheesecake is giant, rich, and creamy with a thick buttery crust. Loved it! The service was great, especially for a large party and they did not rush us out. Here, on a quiet Wednesday night, took me 10 minutes to even get a server to come over, and that's when he was walking by saying 'everything OK sir?'. Nope.... Been here twice so far, first time I order a veal dish and It was really good, this time I ordered a ribbye and I'm a little disappointed. Steak was juicy and cook to temp but the only seasoning i tasted was pepper. The plate it came on was sizzling hot and shattered before I could cut into it. All the sauce was lost in the cloth napkin which is a shame. I really don't understand a good steak being served on a sizzling plate since it will cook the steak beyond preferred temp and you should never cut into a steak with out letting it rest first. My husband and I decided to try out Copeland's for our anniversary dinner. I must say, it was delicious! I can't believe we haven't been there before now. My husband had the Jambalaya Pasta - the flavor was so good. I had the Grilled Chicken Creole & it was delicious as well. I'm not a big fan of super spicy food & the creole was definitely spicy.. but I was able to scrape off most of the sauce and enjoyed a toned done version of the chicken & rice. We had a horrible experience today. We were a party of 6, and were seated alongside a family of 15 or so. The family of all adults were drinking and talking loudly. They proceeded to get in an argument and were yelling profanities and threatening to fight. The staff stood aside and watched the whole episode unfold. The manager was not called until one of our party went to seek her out. After the fight was over, she came to the table and apologized. No explanation about why she did not come to stop the disruptive behavior, and when we told her that her curt apology was not acceptable resolution in light of the disturbing situation, she walked away, as she was unable to deal with the complaint in a professional manner. Although the buffet was good, the service was poor, and the handling of the disruptive patrons was enough to not only ruin our experience, but also enough to ensure that we will never return. The food was good, hot, and fresh. The service in the bar area was EXTREMELY discriminatory! Unfortunately this is not the first time I've been told about this but definitely the first time I've personally experienced it. Management needs to vet their staff. 10/25/2013 Made reservations for 12 for a Birthday/Graduation get together for 7pm. Arrived 6:45pm waited for the table until 7:40 then had to push the tables together so we could sit together. So ordered drinks and the mixed drinks took over 30 minutes to get because the waitress forgot them. Got apps and they were not consistent meaning the same apps were prepared differently? So as the night progressed more problems and inconsistency's waitress kept disappearing and for 12 people and we had only one waitress. Service and food has much to be desired. Manager gave us a 4.00 off for their Brunch Buffett as an apology, I hate Buffett's so gave them away, needless to say I will not be back. read more

There we were, Sunday morning had slipped away and the day was tripping into afternoon and we decided a sit-down meal was in order. After several false-starts, we decided on Copeland's. I am a huge fan of classic southern cooking and Nawlin's and I have become great friends over the years so, I admit, I was a it dubious as to how I would enjoy the experience and food. Let's start with the appetizer. We had the Broccoli selection, which sounded good and tasted even better. Minced broccoli with cheese and bacon in a tart-ish sauce with a hing of sweetness and a touch of heat? Dear God, they were delicious. Next, there was the sandwiches. The grilled cheese, which included bacon as well, came with a side of mac & cheese, with more bacon, and was incredible. My roast beef Po-Boy was spectacular, even if they did put mayo on it rather than mustard, as requested. Seriously, the sandwich's were excellent and my fries? Wonderful. Cooked well with enough seasoning to give them a delightful savory taste all for a pretty damn good price. And then there us the service. Good, prompt, attentive, and friendly. Bad service can make the best meal a chore and good service can make an adequate meal spectacular. But when you have great food and great service? Well, that's the reason you go out to eat rather than just picking something up. Went for Saturday brunch buffet . It was really good . We really enjoyed the biscuits and gravy , fruit, bacon , grits and the strawberry dessert .. I wasn't a fan of the eggs, looked a little too runny for me so I passed . Skipped on the waffle and omelette bar since we filled up on everything else . But there was also sausage , chicken , catfish , sweet potato mash and salad.. We got there just around 10:30 and it was already packed.. it was very good and no complaints . My first review--- Copeland's advertises New Orleans food. I ordered the Half and Half. 1/2 Shrimp po boy and small bowl of gumbo. Yuck. Frozen shrimp.
