I'm writing this review in hopes someone from upper management sees this. This establishment really desperately needs a good clean down. It's a nice restaurant, decor and spacing is beautiful but it's just so gross and dirty. My wife and I noticed it upon entry and the couple we were with made a comment something along the lines of " I wonder if the lights are kept so low to keep the ambience or to hide the layer of dust and grease covering the entire restaurant." LOL. We visited for Sunday brunch upon searching for a good brunch place in the area and least to say we were very disappointed. We could have gotten past the dirtiness if the food was good but it really was not unfortunately. A lot of the food was also very cold. The setup for the buffet itself was also just a complete mess. Three or four different stations randomly scattered around the restaurant, that were all again, very messy. Food splattered all around the buffet tables food all over the floor. Not appealing at all. I will give two stars because our server, and the girl at the omelette station were both very friendly. We ordered mimosas and they didn't come until we had all finished our first plate... but he was friendly!! read more

First visit was great, food was fantastic. Stuffed catfish wow. The crab claws are the very best, gotta have ' em! Chicken parm. Always good. Second visit, slight issue w order. Wait... They we're all over it. Brought replacement more than I expected! Superb services!! We barely blinked and they made it all good! Amazed!! Needless to say. We will return with lots of friends! Food was excellent! Service mediocre. Starting with the greeters .... a couple came in and the hostess pointed them to their table clear across the restaurant (there were 3 other greeters so it isn't like the greeter was leaving the front unattended). When we entered and exited the restaurant greeters were on personal cell phones and conversing among each other. Our waiter was awful took our order and that was the only conversation we had with him. Didn't ask how our food was didn't ask if we needed anything else.. nothing. To make matters worse we had to ask a manger for our check because after 15 mins finishing eating. Food was good except for one of four. The manor in which it was handled is a deal killer. A crab stuffed fish came with the crab burnt black on top. She was starving so she was going to scrap the burnt off and eat it. When someone else at the table mentioned it to the server he insisted that they replace it as it was not right. After a delay in returning that would imply a refire, it was returned after they had obviously just scraped the burnt part off. The topping was not crisp and they had missed one corner of the burnt black section. Only other complaint was the mens room. If it had been one part of the room it could be a recent occurrence beyond their control, but, it looked like a rainbird sprinkler of urine had gone off. I wouldn't let my dog use those facilities. We went to Copeland's last month and that will be our last time dining there. We ate fried onion petals and the blue crab claws for an appetizer. For our entree's we had the fried seafood platter and the pasta with tasso ham. My bf could barely eat his fried seafood as the oysters were inedible and the other options (shrimp, catfish, and crawfish) were awful. My pasta wasn't bad, it was just the after effects of our meal that solidified that our seafood dinners were less than savory. After coming home and letting our food digest, about 6 hours after our meal, my dinner was promptly ejected from my stomach to the toilet. My bf wasn't able to 'rid' of his food as easily as i did, but he suffered the effects of bad seafood for at least a week. We will never eat here again. read more

We called to schedule a large party more than two weeks in advance so proper servicing could be scheduled, not only for the group but for the general public as well. We've learned from the previous party we had a few years ago. As we arrived, only one server was scheduled to take care of our group of 20+ people. She worked hard to take our drink orders and deliver the drinks and then proceeded to take food orders. I'm not sure if it's their policy to not allow pitcher refills on the tables, but glasses sat empty as the server tried to take each order and provide it to the kitchen. Within the party, three attendance arrived as the server was completing the original orders, she offered to fill their drink orders and allow time for them to review the menu. At this time, hot food started arriving one plate at a time, And the three sat and waited for their order not only to be taken, but to be processed and delivered from the kitchen as well. This weight was more than 45 minutes from the time they receive their drink to the time they received their food. By the end of the night, the agreement was made-one, two, three strikes you're out..... The only positive part of the evening which gained two stars instead of one, was the fact that the server was non-stop within the party trying her best to stay ahead of the need. read more

We went for lunch. There were five of us. It was not busy. Our waitress had 3 tables ours included. Two of them were 2 tops. It was about 10 minutes before we even saw our waitress. We were ready to order but she sped off with our drink orders before we could tell her. We finally managed to order and it took about 25-30 minutes to get our food. The only time we saw our waitress in that waiting period was when she ran by without saying anything to take a drink to be refilled. All the while, without saying a word. She finally reappeared with our food. We could all tell it had be sitting under heat lamps due to the fact everything was just warm and not close to hot. I'm giving 2 stars because the food was good. The service was absolute crap. To charge $11 for a meal and have to wait roughly 45 min for food is ridiculous. The waitress never came by to ask how our food was. We asked for our checks right after we got our food. Let me stress this again, it was dead. Not even close to busy. Everyone at the table had been to Copeland's many times before and had never experienced anything like that. I, personally, am not going back. The other 4 people might. read more

Mediocre is non exsistent here w/ special regards to the "FOOD"!!!! This is a "Must Stop" spot while in, Jacksonville, FL. If you love southern hospitality in white pressed shirts and black bottoms along with, "Nawlins" sustenance then, Copeland's is a no brainer. Hot Crab Claws are a fundamental need for starters. My favorite dish, that by process of elimination I wind up ordering. The other dishes although deserving and delicious, are of no comparision. The"Catfish Acadiana" hands down is my dish of choice. Then we move into the sinful portion of the meal. The desserts. If a priest is available at the time of your visit, you will need him to accompany you for this portion of the meal alone. Diablo, is in the Signature Cheesecake [3 caramel] and either a blood sugar count or exorcisim will need to take place after consumption of this sinful sweet. The service as well as professionalism is plausible with the very minor exception of a dimwitted hostess [whom will remain nameless] who lacks the same credibility to excellence that the servers maintain. Tried Copeland's for the first time recently and I have to say it was better than I expected. We started with the crawfish bread.. what's not to like about bread smothered in spinach artichoke, Alfredo, and crawfish? Good portion. Boyfriend had the jambalaya, which was the only thing that didn't impress me. The sauce had good flavor but I've had much better many times elsewhere. I had to try red beans and rice because its my hands-down favorite Cajun dish. It didn't disappoint, but the serving was a little small.. I was hoping to have leftovers! We finished with the white chocolate bread pudding and I will definitely be back for that dish! YUM! Overall a good atmosphere with decent food for the price. read more

It's been a long time since I had been Copeland's, and honestly I wasn't looking forward to it. I had only been a couple of times in the past, and I was never overly pleased. My boyfriend's office holiday party was scheduled here last Wednesday and I was sort of dreading it. I am however, happy to say, that I was pleasantly surprised. We got there a bit early and grabbed a drink from bar. I got a hurricane because it only seemed fitting at a New Orleans style restaurant. It was probably the closest I have had to a hurricane outside of the French Quarter. Once we were seated at our tables, we received several appetizers, all of which were very good. We started with some sort of fried bow tie pasta dipped into spinach artichoke dip followed by a sampler platter. My favorite was this fried eggroll that I believe had some sort of buffalo chicken inside. Most of our table was so stuffed before we were released to the buffet was we still managed to get up and try a bit of everything. We had great service from the entire staff and I am certainly willing to go back and give Copeland's another try! read more

In Jax, your good food choices are very limited. Go to Bonefish or even Longhorns, the fish at these 2 places were similarly priced and much better. -1 star because service was excellent, told her we had coupons at the beginning and split check and she still went above and beyond. -1 star food, because yeah, um, typical oily chain restaurant food. My salmon was overcooked rubbery and greasier than greasy, it was blackened and still had no flavor and it was $20. The beans were excellent. The sweet potatoes were good but had about a pound of sugar, a bit too heavy on the sugar. The other fish entrees, redfish and catfish were ok, but heavy on the grease. Corn/crab chowder was decent, the cornbread that came on top of the chowder was really tasty and so was the biscuit that came with my fish. The artichoke dip was tasty, kind of hard to mess that up. -1 star because we had a 50 percent coupon, had I been rating this based on regular prices, even with the excellent service it would have gotten a Jax 2 star rating. I'm being very generous with a 3 star rating. If I was in LA, this would've gotten a 1. I took about 2 bites of everything and gobbled up the beans because those really were good, boxed everything else. I would not go back. I'm a bit spoiled, I grew up on whole fresh foods, my mom is an amazing cook, I worked in some of the best restaurants in LA and I've eaten at some of the best restaurants around the world. On 12/31/20, an employee at this location took it upon his or herself to take a tip without my permission. I had placed an order over the phone and my husband went inside to pick it up. He did not tip the person that took the payment, there were two places on the receipt, one for "gratuity" and the other for "tips", which is strange because they mean the same thing. The gratuity showed 0 on the receipt but the tip showed 20% of the order. I called and spoke with the manager Jenny, who was extremely rude. She put me on hold and never came back to the phone. I called back and asked for the corporate office's number, but Tom, another manager, got on the phone and tried to convince me I didn't know what I was talking about because there was only a line for gratuity. I had to send him a copy of the receipt to convince him, and he stated that only the receipts for dine in service have a line for gratuity and tips so he didn't understand how I ended up with that type of receipt. He still tried to convince me that we tipped the employee for a to go order, but he assured me my money would be refunded, which I still have not received. I will never return to this location. It was the principle, not the money. No one wants to feel that they've been taken advantage of. read more

From the minute we walked in, the hostess was outgoing and friendly! It really set the tone. Our server was just as awesome; very attentive and on top of our needs the entire visit. Let me tell you about the food! We had the buffalo spring rolls; they were cooked/fried just right. Their buffalo sauce is "tastier" than most others we've had. It, like everything here, is made on site. We had the Roast beef po' boy and the Shrimp Risso. The po' boy came on soft and warm bread; the beef was marinated and tasted amazing. The spicy bread & butter pickles were a pleasant surprise. The Shrimp Risso sauce was out of this world! It had just enough spice in it to keep me honest and clear my sinuses just a little bit (not unpleasantly)! All in all we highly recommend Copeland's for your dining pleasure. I've been to this place twice now and I'd like to give a 3.5, but I can't. So I guess it's a 3 instead. I know lot's of folks love this mini-Orleans based chain, but I can't share their Big Easy enthusiasm. The first time I had the Shrimp Ducky over rice. It was pretty good and for $15.00 was a lot of food. Basically, it's this semi-spicy brown sauce with tiny pieces of duck and lots of shrimp. It's got decent flavor and went well with my beer. This latest time I went with some co-workers. One of them used to work at a Copeland's in Louisiana and really liked it so we went. I started with the Chop Salad. Now, I compare all Chop Salads to the one at Smith and Wollensky's. The iceberg lettuce should be cold, crisp and fresh. To make this happen, you have to prepare the salad just before serving. The other ingrediant should provide the flavor and texture. Alas, this was not the case at Copeland's. The lettuce was soft, and warm. The dressing lacked pop. There was not enough cheese. The bacon was non-existent. Overall, poorly done. For my entree I had the Pasta Shrimp Copeland for $13.99. It present's on a large white platter, toppped with angel hair pasta. The angel hair was not al dente, but not too mushy. The sauce is butter, garlic, a little basil, a lot of small shrimp and more butter. No parmesean was offered. Tasty, but nothing unique. I could make this at home in 10 minutes. It was not a bad experience, but I wouldn't choose to go back there if I had a choice. Got some free beads though. read more

Initially my wife ordered the cajun fried chicken, but there were out as it has to marinate for 24 hours. Decided to Stop here on Date Night with the Wifey. Hadn't been here in about 8 months or so but it was time. We came in and were seated immediately. There were huge parties as it was High School Graduates that were there as well. Not too loud or crowded. The ambiance was cool but my pics weren't the best as you will see. The Buffet Station believe was open but we settled on ordering from the menu. I ordered the Red Beans and rice with Catfish Strips and a side salad. My wife had the Pasta Shrimp Copeland's. She ate it so fast I didn't get a snapshot of it. lol Anyway they brought out their famous Biscuits and Honey. I def' like the taste of them. They were flaky and moist at the same time. Didn't want to eat the whole thing as I knew that they were going to be bringing out more. The salad was simple but delicious. The Red Beans and Rice came out and it seemed like it was a little on the warm side but was still edible. The catfish Strips which I thought were plentiful considering how much I paid for them. If I could in the future to have them seasoned the catfish a little bit more I would continue to order them. More importantly I would recommend them. We settled on dessert and chose the Carrot Cake. When I say this thing was huge, we felt like it was a Birthday Cake and at least 3 or more could have enjoyed this thing. Moist and soft and all we needed was milk and maybe some ice cream. Either Way Copeland's is a must when you visit Jacksonville or when you are in The Big Easy or elsewhere where there is a Copeland's. Will def' be returning. read more

I sat at the bar, I was eating solo, and was hoping to spark some conversation with the bartenders. They weren't busy but they also weren't very talkative. :/ I ordered the shrimp Orleans. The shrimp was cooked well and I loved the texture and creaminess of the rice. However, there was way too much spice and even more pepper on top of that. Don't get me wrong, I love spicy food and I know it's intended to be hot but I couldn't finish the plate because of the amount of heat. There was way too much pepper added, I'm not sure if that was a one time thing. I will probably give copelands a second chance, I just hope it adds up. read more

We went here for my birthday. The Mardi Gras Punch, oh my god, I wish they could put it in a Big Gulp cup so I could take it home. As for the food, eh, that's more complicated. We tried the crawfish cheese fries, they were tasty. My hubby got some kind of chicken pasta that was really good. I ordered the shrimp po boy, and although a very generous size with lots of shrimp and toppings (I had to cut it up with a fork and knife, can't actually eat it like a sandwich), the shrimp had a VERY odd taste. Like ammonia-y or something. They were really busy and I didn't want to be that girl, so I ate what I could and took the rest home. I tried eating it the next day, hoping whatever it was had worn off, but no luck. I've since read that Gulf shrimp (which is what the menu says they are) sometimes have an iodine taste. I don't know what that means, but maybe that was it. Either way, it wasn't good. I had plenty to eat from the cheese fries and nibbling on the chicken pasta. Oh, the biscuits are fantastic. Our server was great, very on top of things even though it was crazy busy. I'll go back and order something different, but I definitely won't take a chance on the shrimp again. read more

My family and I ate here today for our Thanksgiving dinner! It was fabulous and we will come back again soon! Our waiter, Daniel, was fabulous! He was so nice and attentive! I am not picky when it comes to service especially on holidays, as I figure places may be short staffed but Daniel literally didn't miss a beat! They were busy but never were our glasses empty or were there extra plates on the table! As it was a holiday buffet, they had a carving station. The lady that worked at the carving station (I can't remember her name) was also great! She was super friendly and was willing to help no matter what! Went for brunch today (I have been many times). Unfortunately, my experience today was far from pleasant. To begin, the staff is not attentive (with busting vacant tables to seat parties waiting). Mimosas were ordered and the glass was 90% orange juice. When we brought it to our waiter's attention, he stated (rudely) "I don't make the drinks" - we later found out he did make the drinks. Realizing he was rude, the waiter brought a glass of champagne to make true mimosas. The omlette station has been moved across the restaurant, and is not near the rest of the breakfast (buffet) food (one literally has to walk through the restaurant/tables to get to the omlette station). To top the experience off, the restaurant ran out of orange juice and had to go next door to Publix to purchase more (as a customer I did not need the details, but our server volunteered the information). Employees were filling 'to go' boxes for themselves and placed them behind the bar so management was not aware of what they were doing (very tacky). For $18.99, I'll go elsewhere. read more

We ordered pick up over an hour before they closed down . A sampler platter and shrimp po boy or should i say a garbage sampler and shit po boy . First off we went in to pick up the food from the bar . The bartender handed me the bag and the after i handed him the card to pay he gave me the receipt walked off and never came back . The "sampler" was 90% deep fried bowtie pasta and half a cup of congealed artichoke dip. There was 1 half sized buffalo spring roll and 1 more that was even smaller and 3 small deep fried balls that were what we are guessing were bayou broccoli ... There was no broccoli inside said deep fried balls or anywhere in the box we still dont know what it was . The sandwhich was a total slap in the face of the name "po boy" ... I will give them this .. It was poorly cooked and assembled with poor quality "fried shrimp" and 3 day old vegetables . The garlic sweet potato fries were barely fried and limper then a wet noodle . I snapped a picture of the that you can see when we got home and put it on a plate sandwhich after we had allready thrown the sampler away , and i seriously hate to throw food away so for me to do that makes it really bad . Ob after i took the picture my 7 month pregnant wife threw the sandwhich away as well ..if that tells you anything about the quality that a hungry pregnant woman is throwing food away . If i could give it 0 stars i would but i cant and to compare it to somewhere else i couldnt because honestly popeyes does a better job . read more
