We had dinner on Sunday at the Copper Kettle. The bartender was friendly & welcoming as we walked in the door. The service was excellent. The waitress was very friendly & took our order immediately. After we ordered our food, it was on the table in a timely manner, it was hot & delicious. For an appetizer we ordered potato skins stuffed with vegetables instead of bacon & the potato leek soup. Both dishes were excellent. For dinner I had the fish & chips. The fish was excellent. I like how the chef doesn't give you a huge big piece of fish on the plate, it was breaded & cooked nicely in 3 different pieces. The French fries were perfect, not too greasy or dry. My husband & daughter had the crispy chicken stuffed with vegetables for their dinner, they both said it was delicious. . My daughter never eats mashed potato's or cauliflower, but she ate both on Sunday. Her plate was clean after her dinner. We all enjoyed the food. Irish pubs are a dime a dozen in Woodside, but Copper Kettle is one of the better ones for being a complete top to bottom establishment. Situated along Skillman Ave, Copper Kettle has a reputation for providing quality drinks, food, and good service to boot. It looks a lot bigger from the outside, but Copper Kettle is a modest sized pub compared to the rest of the competition. The bar area is split from the main dining room and can seat a decent number of folks. Like any good pub, they liken themselves as a pseudo sports bar despite not sporting all that many TVs. The real money spot is their backyard, which is actually a great spot any time of the year regardless of weather. Plus, it's so dark inside the place that sometimes being outside is a little easier on the eyes. As a pub, Copper Kettle is a solid drinking hole. Most of the usual suspects are on tap, as most of the standard Irish pub beers are on display (Guinness, etc.). Their cocktails are solid and their happy hour deals are pretty good for the area. Best of all, the bartenders are a fun bunch of folks and give a nice pour for their regulars. As a restaurant, Copper Kettle is halfway decent with a menu consisting of Irish classics, bar food, and a smattering of random stuff ranging from Italian fare and salads. I used to be really into the jr. burger during the happy hour special, but I would tell most people to just get the real thing during dinner. Their curry chips / curry nachos are a fun appetizer and the wings are always pretty popular. Not sure if I'm feeling the steaks or the Italian pastas personally, I find them to be less memorable and overly pricey. Ultimately, the staff is friendly and treat their customers well. They always have pretty good specials and do a good job celebrating the holidays with everyone. They're good for solo adventures at the bar, a casual date, and of course, a family affair. We walked in halfway and that's when the bartender noticed us and we asked if we can sit outside. The outside area is cute. That's all I can say about that since that was all they had going for them. It came with sour cream and sprinkled with bacon bits. For my entree I ordered linguine with chicken marsala. The chicken was tasteless plus the linguine. I had to douse it with hot sauce to give it some flavor. Never ordering that again at a bar. The service was how do you say it... VERY HORRIBLE! It was so s-l-o-w! I was like at this rate I could've done everything myself. We were hardly checked up on. Getting water was hard in itself. I don't know whose to blame either the management, staff or the cooks. I told him I had bad soup there before and he responded by saying that's ok and refused to be accommodating. My mom asked to try the soup as well and the server said she couldn't. Andress also never came over to ask how our food was. I ordered the beet and goat cheese salad. My mom and sister got a burger and my mom's burger was super grisly. Given the brunch cocktail with each entree it's a decent value, but there are definitely much better brunch spots out there. Had the Irish breakfast and Blackened salmon salad and a side of america bacon. The Salmon salad was decent, but nothing to rave about. I read a few reviews about the staff being welcoming and friendly however I felt it was the opposite during my visit. The hostess was nice but the server really didn't do anything to stand out or impress me, rather it made the dinner worse. I sat down and it took a while before she approached my table. There was no greeting or cordiality. She came over, asked what drink i wanted, I stated what I wanted and immediately she walked off, meanwhile had other questions/orders. When I got up to ask for where the bathroom was, she just kept walking and pointed in the general direction, but didn't tell me anything more. When I came back to the table it took at least 20 minutes before she came to ask me what I wanted to order. As soon as I said one thing (wings) she grabbed the menu and quickly left so I couldn't ask for anything else. The food eventually came, wings, and they were good as wings should be. Usually one would need water (should have been given at the start) and extra napkins but the waitress didn't come back to ask if I need anything after the food was dropped off. At some point she snuck by, threw down a plate of napkins and scurried off quickly. I had to try to call her over as she walked away and when she came back I was finally able to order another drink. When the waitress was about ready to leave, she just reached over in front of my plate, put the check down and said "I'm leaving if you want get another drink you can get it at the bar." I still had food in front of my plate and was going to ask for a to-go box but..wait.. she ran away before I could even ask. After she dropped the check, she came back a few more times to collect the bill and get her tip, more then she ever did waiting on my table the whole time.. I'd say she came about every other minute for the next 6-7 minutes. I couldn't even take time to have another bite of my food or drink or look at the bill before she was there again waiting to collect it. When I was getting my card out of my wallet, she was literally hovering over my hand and the bill, so quick to collect it and when she rang my card, she was just as quick to hover over waiting for the final receipt + tip. Understandable that you want to leave and get your money but dang, she was at my table waiting for the bill/total/tip more times than she ever approached my table during the stay. It would have been nice to have a "hello", "yes" "thank you", "you're welcome", any kind of normal human response before... but she was cold and dismissive the whole time except when the bill came. My husband and I dined outdoors a few weeks ago on Sunday and it was our first time. We typically just order takeout. I have to agree with a few others on the service here b/c it really is hit or miss. While the host that greeted me was a super friendly older gentleman, who quickly showed us to our table and sanitized it before we sat, the server that attended to us was not great. I'll have to refer to her as Server #1 b/c we did end up getting a different server quickly. Server #1 just had a really poor attitude. We greeted her hello and she only responded with whether or not we wanted drinks. I'm not sure if there was some kind of lost in translation but after receiving our drinks, she left without asking if we wanted any food. She literally just never showed up after dropping off our drinks and even after our thanks, she just walked away. I did go inside and mentioned I wanted to order food and Server #2 was much better. While the take-out food we order is pretty solid (best Irish breakfast, fish is pretty great, etc.), the burger and fish and chips were so-so. We asked for the burger to be medium cooked but we received a well-done burger. The fries were unsalted and a little overcooked for me. However, the Spicy Wings were phenomenal and perfectly cooked. We'll definitely return for those. Overall, I'll keep coming back to try new things. The other staff seems super friendly, and many locals come here to enjoy the staff's friendliness. I even saw our Server #2 drop off food to an empty table (the guy went inside from something/bathroom) and they literally stood there outside just waiting for him to make sure nothing happened to his food. Decided to head to the area for a low-key Friday night dinner. Stopped by this particular restaurant as it had seating available and an inviting atmosphere. Secured booth-seating for two inside (outdoor area was closed) and was immediately greeted by a server for drink orders. Started off with a Smithwicks ($7ish) and shared the Curry Cheese Fries ($9). The large helping of fries are fresh and crisp, sandwiched by a layer of melted cheese up top and curry at the bottom. Solid taste from the gravy and the cheese was not overbearing. For my main course, had the Kettle Burger ($17) - a beef patty topped with bacon, cheddar cheese, onions, peppers, lettuce and tomato (with fries and a pickle to the side). Basic overall burger, cooked medium with a crisp layer of bacon for texture. Filling meal overall that we had to pack most up to go. Though the food here is simple, the service and ambiance brings this pub over the top. We got to-go containers for our food without asking, complimentary soup, and the music was never too loud. The outside just got repainted and is looking extra fresh. As usual, this restaurant is adorably decorated depending on season, sometimes even holiday, and one of my favorite places to pass by in the neighborhood. There is a ton of space inside and even outside - in their low-key beer garden! The service is good, and common for this area, the servers are Irish! I won't say the food here is incredible but it is decent. Just your average stuff. Food is mainly on the bland end. I came here recently with friends for brunch and it was surprisingly empty. Our food took quite a while to come... like about 20 minutes. I ordered eggs benedict (with mushrooms and crabcakes - such a cool combo) and one of my eggs was not at all poached as it should be - it was hard-boiled!! Although we eat here occasionally during the year, I had to comment on the delicious meal we had today. It is Easter Sunday and our reservation was for 1pm. We arrived at 12:30, knew we were early, however we were greeted by the owner and staff and escorted to our table. This is a prefixed menu for the day. Our meal was delicious! We had the Turkey/Virginia Ham plate (something new for me) served with mashed potatoes, carrots and parsnips, Irish sausage and walnut stuffing, cranberry sauce and gravy. The BF and I came across this bar restaurant a few months ago, and for a change of pace, we headed to the north side of Queens Blvd to try it out. This Irish bar definitely has been around for a while and has a devoted following of patrons, something which was evident when we stepped in on a sleepy Sunday evening. While most places weren't busy, The Kettle was hopping with a lively bar scene, friendly staff and even more friendly customers. Perhaps it was the Guinness that made everyone so good natured, Not sure if we planned to stay, we started with a couple of pints. I had barely gotten to drinking my beer, when I spilled most of it on the floor! Hey, the glass was slippery with condensation! Much to my surprise, the bartender came around with another full pint, which was awesome. That completely convinced me that we should stay for dinner. Of course, like just like many other Irish bars in the area, there was plenty of sports TV being shown. I'm usually not crazy about sports bars, but it wasn't so intrusive and the patrons were so good natured and fun, it really added rather than detracted from the experience. Anyway, the dining area wasn't busy, so we sat down and took a look at the menu. There was the standard pub menu, but it also had some interesting entrees. Kevin chose the French onion soup and a cobb salad. Once again, we was very happy with both choices. I chose cream of mushroom soup - one of my favorites - which was very tasty and not too heavy on the cream. I also decided upon their boiled scrod dish, which came with mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables. It was edible, but not fantastic. It's actually been some time since I've eaten scrod, and forgotten about its being flavorless with a rubbery texture. We were seated at a comfortable booth and the waitress came by right away to take our drink orders. What a great neighborhood restaurant and bar! This is really a go-to place with excellent comfort food (although they do have a big salad selection), and lots of beers on tap. The decor inside is cozy, and I especially like the wooden booths up front. The backyard is also really nice, with a mix of smaller tables and picnic tables for larger groups. As far as food, I'm a huge fan of the turkey burger (def one of the best I've ever had anywhere!). They also have great wings - very crispy and perfectly sauced (try the Brogie wings, which is hot sauce + BBQ sauce), and the sweet potato fries are some of my all time favorites as well (soft on the inside and crispy on the outside - yum!). I also love what a mixed clientele they have - their business truly reflects the diversity of the neighborhood because of what a welcoming place this is.
