On my first full day in Portland, with jet lag, I searched on "Breakfast all day," and Milo's showed up prominently... somewhat ironic because "all day" ends at 2pm at Milo's. It was also hard for me to ignore all the breakfast options featuring salmon (smoked, grilled, blackened) and their claim to "Best Hollandaise in Portland." Having only been here so far, I have nothing else (yet) for comparison, but I'd certainly have their sauce any day. It was a little lighter in color than I expected, but the lemon flavor was perfect. Their home fries are amazing too, crisp and very nicely spiced on the outside, tender inside. Even my dining companions who dislike home fries ate every single one on their plates. The decor is festive, and the restaurant is clean and bright, accompanied by some stuffed animals of many sizes. Who doesn't want to dine near a stuffed llama? The staff in this Peruvian owned restaurant are friendly and quick. Our meals came out quickly, and my coffee cup was never allowed to be empty. Ownership and management and menu have changed, and I gotta be honest - I miss the old Milo's. The food isn't awful or anything, but this has gone from being a pretty reliably good breakfast spot, to a place that you're better off skipping in favour of other options. This is Portland, there are plenty of good places to go... Milo's is no longer it. Portions are kinda on the small side. Flavour is kind of lacking. Not across the board, you can still find tasty stuff on the menu - the mushroom soup, for instance - but I don't know, it feels like the magic is gone, and it's a shame. read more

Yummy! We enjoyed a late breakfast and the waffle & berries with real fruit syrup was so good! The egg scramble with ham,cheese & mushrooms was the bomb! Super clean nicely set up. Finally ate here, the phone problem is a leftover issue with the previous owners who turned the restaurant back to the original owners. The people who built the reputation for a great neighborhood asset. They are still battling problems with Google who posts the old,out of service phone and old menus. Was going to see a matinee movie at Lloyd Center and had time for breakfast beforehand. A quick search on Yelp showed Milo's had great reviews. We found free parking right out front. The bright dining room wasn't full so we chose a booth under the life sized llama. Staff was super friendly. I had two eggs, home fries and toast. My friend had the salmon omelette. Both solid good! My first time to Milo's. I had the Oyster Benedict. It came out promptly. I would have made some different plating choices and the eggs were a bit over. But what it may have lack d in finesse, it made up for with flavor. The potatoes were crisp and well seasoned. The oysters were plump, juicy and briny. But the star was the hollandaise. It was generous and it had the perfect punch of lemon, that helps lighten the rich sauce. The coffee was nice and the front of house staff was friendly, welcoming and attentive. read more

Can I give 4.5 stars? Eh, these things are so subjective. Anyway, let me just say that Milo's will definitely get put into my regular breakfast spot rotation, thanks to awesome servers, a warm and eclectic interior and, yea, the breakfast standards done right. OK, so the menu ain't exactly what you'd call experimental-- it holds most of your usual suspects, with lots of scrambles and Benedict's and a few salads and sandwiches to mix it up. It's all good comfort food and the Salmon Scramble I requested was spot on - fluffy eggs and loads of nice pink salmon chunks. The breakfast potatoes were excellent too, and the coffee was, ah, decent. Place is bigger inside than it looks from the street, with high ceilings, and tables scattered in the middle of the large room, and booths around the edges. It looks like Milo's is open to 2pm most days so I guess it's a breakfast/ lunch typa place, though our sassy waitress says there's dinner on weekends too - so who knows, call and check first. Milo's city cafe is locally owned and is super delicious. We met the owner and he is a delightful nice man. The omelette was delicious and would could back here for breakfast any day of the week. The jam for my English muffin is homemade just like all the food here. The Jam is a must try.... SUPER DELICIOUS. If I could give this place 10 stars I would. Decent enough breakfast. We had the pancakes, fruit parfait and an egg plate with home fries. Pancakes were a little dense, and the eggs were average, but the home fries were perfectly crisp. The parfait was good too. The restaurant is spacious and we enjoyed seeing the life-sized llama stuffy with sunglasses on. Would probably eat here again if I lived in the neighborhood. read more

For some odd reason, I have resisted visiting this café. And yet there have been times when I just wanted an old-fashioned breakfast. SMH at Milo's you get an old-fashioned breakfast. Let me say, It's a vibe fs! I love the decor at this cafe! The waitresses were very attentive and food got out at a decent time considering how busy it was. Staffs were very nice hyping up my fit & all. I got the Salmon Benedict, which came with crispy potatoes and a side of sliced pineapple. The Eggs Benedict and potatoes were perfect! In my opinion, the salmon was too salty for me, but the pineapple surprisingly balanced that out for me! We have been going to Milo's for at least 20 (?) years, maybe longer. Milo's has been our breakfast restaurant for so long because the food, service and atmosphere are consistently excellent. Milo's offers so many tasty dishes , it's hard to decide. Try the Eggs Benedict , well worth it. I think Milo's is quite reasonable with their pricing. ENJOY! read more

This place kind of reminds me of the cafe you would find in the lobby of a nice hotel. I'm annoyed in general by the QR code menu but I appreciate the descriptions and accurate pictures of theirs. I came right before closing. I know this is kind of not cool but they were very friendly and accommodating. I ended up getting the corned beef. Basically all of the components of a corned beef hash but not all put together. Fair amount of meat for the price. The potatoes were cooked well but under seasoned. The perfect bite with the peppers potatoes eggs and beef was pretty good. Not life changing or something I would intentionally drive across town for but tasty and satisfying. The biscuit was kind of disappointing. Looked like it was going to be a hit but very chewy and not very flaky. I'm not sure if I would intentionally come back but glad I gave it a try. read more

Great breakfast and service. I was hoping for some vegan options but for those who are not plant based, you will do just fine.

Wanted to enjoy this more but the food quality made it difficult. Over easy eggs were served with pools of grease; desiccated hash browns, which were requested to be crisped on the grill were instead tossed in the deep fryer; and the coffee was watery. I used to go here all the time until (Mothers?) bought them out, took me awhile to figure out they changed their potatoes completely. I read in the paper that the server bought them out so I have been back a few times. They even put Mushroom & Cheddar Cheese scramble back on the menu! Still the food is uneven. The last time the potatoes were really good. The scramble's mushrooms had an odd flavor, but not as bad as when there was a different cook (all I could do not to spit it out)!.. One time it was wonderful, I even talked to the waitress about them cooking in butter, clarified it turns out. Coffee is a bit weak. Only one type of Jam which changes, toast was white last time. My wife and I were beyond pleased with our Breakfast and lunch. Having been patrons of Milo's since it's start, we had big expectations for the latest owner. Ordered the black stone Benny, vegetarian Benny (no mushroom - noted due to allergy), coffee, and guava juice. Coffee was overpriced and my benny came with fully cooked through poached eggs and a piece of mushroom. I pushed it to the side and flagged the staff. They apologized and said the server didn't note that it was an allergy on the ticket. Then that same server came back to me with THAT SAME Benny on a new plate with new potatoes and said there were no mushrooms. I said I had it pushed on the side on the original plate, which I pointed out to staff. After he gaslit me about the mushroom I had found, I pointed out how hard the eggs were too. He finally agreed to give me a replacement. A long while later, my replacement came with no watermelon (boo), no mushrooms (yay!), but the egg was running off the plate (ewww). Like the chef was like "oh she wants it raw, I'll give them raw" and just cracked an egg on my plate. Ridiculous. The only reason why I give this 2 star is because my husband enjoyed his meal. I do not appreciate being gaslit about the mushroom on the plate and having to convince my server to give me a replacement after he messaged up. We absolutely loved this place! I cannot recommend it enough between the incredible staff, delicious food, beautiful dining room, and a great location with easy street parking. We learned that the current owner kept the original aesthetic and brought back the old menu from the original owners. Best way to describe it is that even though it was my first time and others in my party had been numerous times, it just felt so welcoming the way you are greeted walking in made it feel like a true local spot. Oscar (the owner) is amazing and you should definitely make it a point to meet him... pretty easy considering he walks around to all the tables and checks in on everyone. Had a great meal at Milo's. Since it was our first time, we were a little generous with what we ordered. There were two of us-one got the "build your own Bloody Mary" and the other got a cranberry mimosa with a fruit skewer. The fruit skewer came on a plate, it in the mimosa. The BYOBM had all the extras on the side-and it's in a small mason jar mug with a lot of ice. The mimosa ($10) and the Bloody Mary ($14) were good but it's really more about the flair with the drinks. The food was amazing. Their eggs Benedict has a gorgeous, lush and lemony Hollandaise sauce, that paired beautifully with the house potatoes (I left the peppers out). The other breakfast was an amazing pile of French toast with bananas foster, whipped cream and spring berries. A side of bacon served melting and perfectly cooked complimented the sweetness (make a note-4 slices for $6). Blueberry scone with lemon curd was the absolute bomb! Really wanted to try the croissant, but they were out. Their menu is diverse and the smell is appetizing-but their hours are not user friendly for families or dinner, even though the sign says they serve dinner (current hours-8am-2pm). The biggest reasons I did not give them 5 stars is the soft drink prices are prohibitive ($3.45 ea) and the portions on the drinks is pretty small. Food is definitely worth the trip. read more

But they did come through for a quick To-Go breakfast. Decently size from what I saw with Counter Service and kitchen in the back. Ordering my breakfast with Nathaniel seemed fine. Prices though, were outrageous for Breakfast. For 2 Ham-Scallions & Pepper Jack Sandwiches, a Vegan Hash and my 2 Crab Meat patties (delicious...albeit skimpy) and undercooked hash browns. But at $56 and change...come on. Breakfast??? And no beverages??? Aside from the expensive breakfast, Milos Cafe just reeked of bacon- and I did too. Our walking group of 7 met here for breakfast on Thursday morning at 9:30. Not crowded. Happy with our choices and our breakfast several us ordered split breakfasts since plenty of food to do so. The new owner is a longtime employee who took over the restaurant and is doing a wonderful job retaining all the best parts of the original menu and adding in new items.
