The food is sub-par from the beginning but we really go for the performances. While there the waiter spills an entire seafood tower on my brand new coat. First they offered to pay for the dry cleaning then they blew me off. I knew this was going to be the case, the maitre d disappeared (it wasn't that busy) and they didn't even offer us a dessert, a drink or anything as a gesture after ruining my brand new coat. Second time here and don't know which day was worse. They hype this place up on their instagram for no reason. The food is not that great. Everyone in my dinner party complained about their their food. My salmon was something I can cook at home. Nothing 'chefy' about it. People that got steak said it was bad. The lechón was terrible. Visited this establishment for a ladies night out. The service was horrible. Waiter seemed impaired. Complained to two different managers to no avail. We were asked twice to give our order which had been taken by the same waiter tending to us. Came here last Saturday for dinner and drinks. It is an upcale fairly new Latin restaurant. Sleek and modern decor and had a deejay until 10 that night. My lechoncito was huge and pretty good but the sides were very small. The octopus appetizer was good as well. The drinks could have been a little stronger especially for 16 dollars. They automatically charge 18% gratuity to your bill regardless of group size which seems to be a new trend that I am not in agreement with. Our server was cute and on point I wish I could remember her name. The table staff were aggressive in trying to clear the table before we were ready though at least 3 times. We came in for a late dinner so there was no need. No hat wearing policy in effect here as well. read more

I went to dinner with my fiance for date night. The food was not that great and everything was overpriced. To add insult to injury they added an 18 percent tip on the bill when it was only 2 of us. I have never had a restaurant do that on a bill for 2 people. The waitress was awesome and would have given her more than 18 percent but was so disgusted over the audacity of adding the tip I refused to pay a dime over that. Understaffed, rude waitress/hostess, overbooked, water down Puerto Rican food! I have been here on more than one special performance, prior to these last two (Bad Bunny Brunch and Judy Torres) last night... Bad Bunny Brunch, charged a reservation fee pushed us back 2x, we missed the good music, understaffed tired and what worse they ran out of drinks and the food we wanted!!!! How? You charged a reservation fee poor management poor staffing but we decided to give it another shot for Judy Torres. Well another huge let down. On a Friday night, long day at work, much needed drinks with my girls. Ok, so new rules they charge a reservation fee...last night 40 ep for 4 of us. Took long time for us to get our water and drinks. My first drink was delicious Lychee Martinee, Second drink was not a LM, goes back, comes back with another, same thing not a LM. Not to fault our waitress she was great but the Bartenders took it upon themselves to switch it up and then tell me it's pink because of the strawberry puree.. I gave up and asked for wine. Food comes, no flavor, the pork leg (lechon) skin not cooked soggy lifted the soggy skin a thick row of fat grease... horrible. My neice asked for a Momo Saltado ( steak, fries, and peppers) steak was chewy salty and too much soy sauce. Oh! And it was their 3 year Anniversary... I was rooting for you! Deeeelicious!!!! From beginning to end. If you want to be transported to the Caribbean instantly I highly recommend the Lechoncito Entree. The chef captured it perfectly. We went out to Coquito Blu for dinner with friends and we were all impressed with the delicious food, drinks and the staff. We were seated immediately with a reservation. The person who greeted us was very friendly. Our waitress took the time to explain the menu since it was our first time here. The churasco (skirt steak) was awesome especially the yucca mash that came with it. The piononos appetizer was so good as well as my drink lavendertini. We will definitely be back again especially when it's warm enough to sit outside. read more

Distasteful and Misleading experience My recent visit to Coquito Blu in Queens left me extremely disappointed, deceived and disgusted . They failed to disclose a 90 min table limit due to a band performance, while taking my reservation a few days prior . We were asked to leave shortly after having some drinks and appetizers and refused our entrees . We were rudely kicked out by management who had a bouncer hovering over us because another party reserved the table for a fee. Be aware of undisclosed charges and seek a better dining experience somewhere else . read more

I made a 5 pm reservation for Mother's Day. I was not seated with my party of 5 until 5:25. A walking was seated before us. We get taken to a shabby looking table by the exit sign. If I am going to spend 100$+ at a restaurant, I would at least like to be seated AWAY from the exit sign. My family and I stood in the middle of the restaurant waiting for them to figure out what to do with us. Once seated, It took about 10 minutes for the waiter to come and ask for our order. He then informed us that there was a prefix menu. But there was no price on the menu. After ordering a mocktail and a Coke, it was another 20 minute wait. I also noticed one of the waitresses touching all of the top of the straws with her fingers at the bar. after 20 minutes, my mocktail ended up being beet juice. I asked the waiter to return it and he replied," you know this is a mocktail right?" Like I didn't know what I ordered off the menu with WORDS. He asked if I wanted something else, I replied no since I did not want to wait an additional 20 minutes. Appetizers arrive, they're not bad. Little did I know, it was going to be another 40 minutes for the food. Main dishes arrive...I don't know who thought "yuca mash" was a lightbulb idea, but they don't deserve the credit. It literally looks like throw up and tastes like nothing. There is absolutely no seasoning in it. I ordered sweet plantains with my order, they ran out. The waiter sat down next to me, started speaking, spat on my food, to show me he put in the order of sweet plantains and the kitchen messed up. It would take about 10 minutes to flag our waiter each time. Ended up never receiving our dessert. When I didn't want to tip the manager came over asking what the issue was. When I explained it she called me aggressive. In reality I was upset it was Mother's Day and we received horrible service. Then they want you to tip 20%. I could have stayed home and made full dinner in 30 minutes. She had the audacity to tell me it was mandatory to tip. Where in the law does it say it is illegal to not tip? I arrived at 5, did not leave until 8. Just don't go here. Food is horrible and the service is worse. Be careful you might be mandated to leave a 20% tip. read more

Waited over an hour and a half for one appetizer out of the two ordered and watched other customers leave as they became fed up with the lack of service. The calamari was nothing but dried up tentacles with spicy sauce, and the drinks were served in miniature glasses loaded with ice. I was driving down Frannie Lou one day, looked to the right and saw this beautiful restaurant called Coquito Blu. I walked in to get a look at the place and it felt like I was in a restaurant in the city. I asked if this was an authentic Puerto Rican restaurant because of the name "Coquito" but apparently the chef is El Salvadorian. I was confused but it seemed like a cool spot and decided to give it a chance so I took my fiancé there and we ordered appetizers, drinks and our meals. It took an HOUR AND A HALF to get our food. I went to the host who was very sweet, informed her, she was extremely apologetic and offered the excuse that it was the party of 50 that caused the slow up! My thought, if you have more than 50 chairs in your restaurant than on any given day you should be able to accommodate more than 50 people. When I attempted to complain to the waiter about the poor service, he pretended as if he could not speak English, this was absolutely disgusting, I felt as if this was a play on my intelligence, also it paints a very bad picture for people who truly cannot speak the English language. I then wondered what kind of tip he was expecting to receive from us and WALA! the bill came and his 15% had already been added to the bill. This was absolutely unacceptable! The service was poor and now they expected to get a premium tip for services that they did not render. After informing the hostess that we had to wait an hour and a half for our food, she brought out someone who looked like the chef/manager he looked at our table, gave us a dirty look and walked back in with the hostess never to be seen again! Were we in the twilight zone? Who treats customers this way? They behaved as if they were giving us a free meal, meanwhile the food is overpriced and expensive. My fiancé spoke with the host and demanded that we should be able to choose what tip this waiter earned, especially because we had to wait an hour and a half to for our food. Our request for choosing the tip that the waiter was to receive was accommodated. At this point we could not wait to get out of there. We were supposed to be brought a bag to carry our leftovers in and we never received that bag. We literally left with our leftover trays in our hands. Our reservations were for 6 PM we arrived at 6:05 PM we left the restaurant at about 9 PM. It took three hours for my fiancé and I to dine. As it began to get dark we started to see a different type of Denizen enter the restaurant. We became very uncomfortable and immediately asked for the check. As a person of Puerto Rican descent, who grew up in a pretty tough neighborhood, I know how to spot when things are not right. I've lived in Whitestone For quite some time and I hope that this restaurant does not attract the wrong type of crowd. Also manager enforces assigned seats to your party... that was weird!! Service took forever over and hour for drinks another hour for apps add another hour for food. They were taking pictures I guess for their social media so when we did eventually get the drinks or apps or food each time they placed it on the table next to us to waste another 5-10 minutes on taking pictures!!! Went here for their freestyle event on 7/13/22...horrible experience they were not prepared for an event like this and very unorganized. The new manager "Tanya" should not deal with the public. She is nasty, not a people person or knows what she is doing why they hired her is beyond me. Omar was so much better! They need to get rid of her she is on a power trip and had that place in shambles. As a "manager" you should know what your doing but apparently she is in the sheets with one of the owners that is how she got that position smh. Anyway will not be spending anymore money from here on at Coquito. It was good while it lasted. In response to the establishment's reply on Google: Unfortunately as a lot of things in life, people are shown what people want you to see but in reality it was not what really happened. Yes of course videos show happy customers and people having a good time it was all because of Judy Torres and freestyle night. It was not the establishment itself and management. As soon as she was done, everyone left. I appreciate the offer for dinner on you but I will respectfully decline as I have already made my decision not to return there. My husband and I were excited to try a new place in the neighborhood. I ordered the salmon. It was tasty. However, it was supposed to come with asparagus. I was told it was in the rice. It wasn't. I asked the waitress if she could bring it to me on the side. When she went to the kitchen, the chef said they would not give it to me. How can you advertise it on the menu and then refuse to serve it? At $32, that is crazy! Also, we paid an 18 percent tip that was included on the bill. Excellent service, delicious food & just the right music!! Five of us went out for my sister's birthday brunch & had a wonderful time. The best part of our experience was Sky. She is an exceptional server. She anticipated our needs, bringing refills on our bottomless Brunch beverages without having to ask. She has a stellar personality,! She's patient, knowledgeable & most of all, she's genuine. I look forward to visiting Coquito Blu again when she is there. We enjoyed the well-crafted white Sangria & especially loved the shrimp ceviche, salmon, arepa & spinach Benedict & the burger. Visually nice as you enter. The portions are very small, not very tasty & expensive. As an appetizer we had the guacamole and yucca fries, both were just okay at best. My friend who ordered the chicken had about 4 bites and left the rest (she said it had zero flavor) & my friend who had the salmon said it was just ok (she loved the rice that came with it). We were also annoyed that the 18% tip was already included but the service was good & so were the drinks. They forced the check on us (700+) Then the "manager" came to us and said "guys thanks for coming in and congrats on the anniversary but haha I'm going to need this table" We all looked around confused. While getting up another "manager" told my girl 2 things 1."You guys don't have to leave we just need the table, you can stand by the crowded bar if you guys want to stay" 2."We keep people here based on consumption" Like whaaaaaat!!!! 780 bucks in 2 hours!!! If the waiter lets you enjoy your yourself and the music while you are there. On the other hand, the service was horrible. Our waiter Michael was the worst waiter that I ever had. He saw when we were seated to our table and immediately asked us "WHAT DO YOU WANT". As we were still taking our coats off, we told him that we just sat down and weren't ready. When we told him to put them down on the table he had a blank look. We ordered appetizers, before they arrive; he asked if we were ready to order our dinner. Again we said that we did not look at the menu and we will call him. Again he hovers. Again we tell him to leave. We order or meals, A party member in the group ordered a steak and he asked (HOW DO YOU WANT IT COOKED?). He leaves. As we are talking amongst us, he returns to ask us if we are ready to order or dinner. We tell him that we ordered 5 minutes ago and he argues with us that we didn't. A few minutes later, he asked her (HOW SHE WANTS HER STEAK COOKED?). She replied, I already told you Medium. He then returned a little later to ask again (HOW SHE WANTS HER STEAK COOKED?). Again she told him that she already told him twice MEDIUM. While we were eating, a manager came over to our table to ask us how everything was going so we told him all of the above, plus (too much to include in this review). He said sorry but did nothing about it. Another waiter saw what was going on and visited our table to make sure that the service was getting better. Then another person (who I thought was the owner) came to ask how everything was and again, we told him all of the above and more, he said sorry that you feel this way and did nothing about it. They didn't even change our waiter after we asked them to. Michael then comes to us while we are starting our meal to ask if we want the bill (as he called it). We told him no, that we are still eating. We had to tell him not to come back until we call him because he approached at least 6 times asking if we want our bill. One of the party members requested to see the Dessert Menu and he didn't know what that was and proceeded to ask "You want your bill? We had to tell him to come back in a while. He seemed to be under the influence of something. To tops it off, they included the tip to the bill. I will never go there again. All of this happened and the restaurant was empty. He was waiting on only two tables. If you go there and you are greeted by Michael, ask to be seated at another section if you want a pleasant experience. read more

Let me preface this review by saying the food is amazing! I eat out a few times a week, in NYC and the food at this restaurant is not what I expected. The flavors were absolutely delicious. He also had an attitude - not sure why, the restaurant was not full. We ordered our drinks because he came back within a minute - and that should have given us an idea of how the night was going to go. He brings the drinks and he starts handing them to us and we look at him and said put them on the table. Then he said "what do you want to eat"? One of the guests at our table had been to the restaurant before so she knew the menu and ordered our appetizers. As soon as the appetizers were placed on the table he asked us "do you know what you want to eat"? Again with the rushing - so we ordered the food. He came back in 5 minutes and asked one of us - how do you want your steak cook - she looked at him and said I already told you, but she told him again. He came back in 5 minutes and asked her again, how do you want your steak cook? At this point, I got up and complained to the manager and he said he would talk to him. (WHAT? TALK TO HIM WHILE WE ARE STILL HERE)?? Ten minutes go by and the waiter comes over again and asks us if we are ready to order our food. My cousin swore she was being pranked and we were being filmed for a TV show. At this point, we are yelling - we already ordered and he doesn't seem to believe us. He goes back into the kitchen and comes back with the food. As soon as we finish - he asks us if we want the check - SERIOUSLY? We ordered dessert, I complain to another manager and he said "sorry about that, but do you like the food"? I will spare you the rest of the night - but the waiter asked us 6 times if we wanted the check! At one point, I asked him if wanted to go home, because the restaurant wasn't busy and if that is why he keeps asking us. Once again, I complained (loudly) to the manager that I have never been treated that way and for two managers to completely ignore us instead of giving us a new waiter or doing something, anything would have been nice, is completely unaccepted. To make matters much worse, we were presented with the check with an automatic tip for this horrible service. So as we paid the $400, we were all furious that we had to give this horrible waiter anything! We loved the food so much, that we actually thought we might go back - but I would not subject myself to such service ever again. In today's market when I can choose to spend my money anywhere and not make a trip to Queens, I will spend it anywhere else but there.
