I had my wife's 40th Suprise birthday dinner at Poseidon Resturant and everything exceeded my expectations... Sue was our event coordinator, she made the event and planing effortless. All 30 of my guests had nothing but amazing things to say about the service and food! We will defiantly be coming back in the future... Even though the weather wasn't as good as I had hoped that evening. The location and view was still spectacular

I called to make a reservation for last Sunday about a month ago, and the person who answered the phone was super helpful and polite. I was pleased to be able to request a table outside with a view of the ocean. When we arrived at 12:40, the valet parking was FULL as was the public parking across the street so my father-in-law kindly dropped us off and parked a 10-minute walk away at his church. Our table was ready at 1, for a 12:45 reservation, which wasn't bad. Thanks to the awning on the patio, we were in the shade most of the 1.5hrs we spent there for brunch. It was a warm day for San Diego in March, so people were enjoying the beach, swimming, sunning, playing in the sand. We sat with a clear view of the lifeguard station and luckily nothing serious happened while we were there but if it had, we'd have had front row seats to the pole they slide down. Our server Dave was hilarious. He almost didn't know how to be serious, he was so jokey. Apparently he usually works evenings and was filling in for someone at brunch. When we ordered soft drinks, he kept automatically filling them and finally stopped at 3! Here were are orders: (the ones I took photos of anyway): Calamari appetizer (5/5)--tasty, perfectly cooked Flat-iron steak and eggs: (4/5) Blackened Mahi-Mahi sandwich (5/5)--savory seasoning on the mahi mahi, yummy pickled onions, avocado, abd dill pickles on a butter lettuce leaf, crispy skinny fries! I ate it open-faced with a knife and fork and left the bun behind. One of our party had a few food allergies and was able to make sure to order the Mediterranean omelette which was allergen-free. Dave even made sure they added gluten free-nut free bread for her. Well done! And thank you! The perfect sunny day to enjoy a luxurious brunch on the beach!!

You can't beat the view at this place. Definitely a great ambience being right on the water. The cocktails were tasty and everyone liked their main dishes. I got the Seabass and other people got the short rib. Both were good, but I would say get the short rib if you're hungrier because it's a bigger portion. Our server was super friendly along with the hostesses. My friend wanted to come a little early to set out some birthday decorations, and they were happy to accommodate this.

Ambiance-5/5 Beautiful by the water. For those of you who are from or familiar with Laguna beach, it reminds me of the Deck! Blue umbrellas and ocean front views. Parking is horrible. Valet is $10 Recommend residential or finding parking near Del Mar plaza if possible Food- 3.5/5 Ahi tuna- 3/5 Way too much sesame and the sauces were a bit overpowering but the fish itself was good and tasted fresh Shrimp Greek salad-4/5 Simple but delicious Wish it had more shrimp and cherry/grape tomatoes instead of large slices of tomatoes Liked the cucumbers

4/18/26 checked out the beach near La Jolla and wanted to snack on something before dinner. No reservation so we couldn't sit outside in the deck but we were able to sit at a counter top table and still catch the ocean view. We ordered truffle fries and sautéed mushrooms, they paired well together and it was really nice to eat. Restaurant is busy as it's on the beach. Waiters were friendly. Happy eats!

You can't be the location for San Diego beach front dining! They offer a great menu with a variety of food options and an expensive bar/drink menu. We started with brussel sprouts and calamari- both were very good. I had the short ribs and they were so tender and delicious. You will pay for the ambience but it's so worth it. A perfect place to celebrate a special event or just a beautiful day/night in Del Mar. Love Poseidon!

The outdoor patio right on the beach is the star of this restaurant. We always request to sit outside and most seats have some shade. It gets pretty busy on the weekends. We try to go on the weekdays instead to avoid the crowds. Food is hit or miss and a little on the pricey side. Expected in this part of town and the prime beachfront location. They gave us a delicious complimentary carrot cake since we were celebrating a birthday! There is valet parking and I recommend it since free parking in the area is very limited. Paid street parking has a 2 hr limit and the paid parking lot across the street can cost more than the valet parking.

Ambiance is crazy nice.. i mean it's on the sand. Service was great! Food was great! Random note I loved the plate ware.

Enjoyable dinner this evening after calling and they were able to accommodate us 30 minutes sooner than the online reservations which worked out perfectly. We came after sunset and chose to dine inside since it was a cooler night out. The views were beautiful with the ocean view at this fine dining restaurant in Del Mar. Our server was Lupe and she gave amazing service, nice and efficient. For dinner I tried their calamari for appetizer (cooked perfectly with yummy dipping sauce), braised beef short rib (juicy, tender, and delicious veggie varieties) and had their spicy tequila cocktail (fantastic!). 5 stars!

Chenin Blanc paired quite well with our dishes

It was a beautiful day for lunch on our first visit at Poseidon. Tried the sea bass and crab cake with the Chenin Blanc. The main dish was so impressive that we decided to get half a dozen of fresh oysters from Washington State and then finished off with the flourless chocolate cake with vanilla gelato. Portions are not large but everything came out super fast and very fresh. Didn't catch our waiter's name but he jostled 10 tables at once while still made sure we were taken care of without intruding. Only valet parking ($10) is available but we walked a little ways away and parked on the street. Worthwhile for special occasion and they do have happy hour starting at 3:30pm.

When I first moved to this area, Poseidon was one of the regular spots that I patronized. As noted in its name, the business was literally on the beach next to a lifeguard station north of the Powerhouse Park in Del Mar. The waterfront views were at a five star level by itself. If you wanted to park nearby, there were limited metered spots in the lot out front. Most of the spaces were reserved for the valet service. A paid parking lot was available across the street that charged some steep rates. I normally sit at one of the high-top tables across from the bar where one can still see the ocean waves in the distance. Poseidon used to offer a coupon in the monthly mailer that comes to my residence. That has long since been discontinued which was a shame because 20% off your tab was a nice deal. The majority of the items on the bar food menu have remained the same, but the prices have substantially increased. At a recent visit, my pick was the Blackened Fish Sliders. They were served as a pair with french fries on the side. A whitefish fillet was chargrilled and placed inside a brioche bun topped with baby arugula, tomatoes, and tartar sauce. The slider was a nice compact sandwich filled with flavor. The fries were of the shoestring variety that included a cup of ketchup for dipping. The issue was that for two sliders and frites, the cost was $20 which wasn't a good value. Due to the distance, I don't come as often to this part of Del Mar. If I have out of town visitors who want to walk a flat shoreline with gentle waves, then Poseidon on the Beach remains one of the options where I bring them.

Chilled seafood platter with 6 oysters, 5 jumbo prawns and fish ceviche with mignon sauce, cocktail sauce and tortilla chips
    Gale R.

We celebrated a birthday lunch here at the Poseidon. we had not been here for years. It is quite a bit more upscale since we've been here. We started out with the seafood platter, which was amazing. It included six oysters. five jumbo prawns, fish ceviche, mignon sauce, cocktail sauce and tortilla chips for scooping the ceviche with avocado. All the seafood was high-quality, ice cold and fresh. The tortilla chips could be better. We ordered the calamari strips which we did not care for. They seem thick and chewy. We also didn't like the sauce that it was served with. We let them know and they actually took it off our bill. We did split the crabcake Benedict, which was fantastic. The crabcake was generous in the amount of crab served, tasty and fresh. Poached egg was cooked perfectly and it was not overwhelmed by sauce. The avocado on top was perfect. You could not ask for a better view dining on the patio! Service was fantastic! We will be back!

Well, there's definitely a really good outdoor sea view here. And the weather was perfect. The fish in our sandwiches was good. The tomato though on the mahi-mahi sandwich, totally saturated the bone and made it totally fall apart, which is not very comfortable to eat how do you spell soggy SOGGYSOGGGG what a weird experience totally weird. Our server was good. It was not his fault.

Everyone who waited on us were attentive and personable. Coya Peruvian Secret lives up to precisely what their name suggests. . . so let's keep it a secret of on the down low. Shhhhh, it's better that way.

So we took the coast and enjoyed the long way to the restaurant so we could get there at the right time. No issues parking, but we went during a slow time. It's off steet parking, there's not a parking lot, but again we found plenty of spots right in front of the restaurant. They have pretty and colorful decor. Fun lights and beautiful flowering tree coverage. Seating is outdoors so dress accordingly. I knew this because we've enjoyed dining here a few times, so I actually used my little throw blanket. It's causal but some Couples dress up and eat here too. Server was great. He was tentative and nice. I knew I wanted the shrimp causa and my daughter's favorite Peruvian dish is Lomo saltado, so thatd what she ordered. He told us about the specials so we went with trying the baked scallops. I'd asked for 2 and he accidentally brought 4 but immediately realized and without us having to even ask, he offered to take the extra two off. So grateful he caught that. My daughter doesn't like scallops and I just wanted to try them. I like sea scallops but these were bay scallops. I never asked so I shouldn't have assumed. It was a tasty appetizer, talked my daughter into trying it but she wasn't interested to try more. She loves Parmesan cheese and there was a lot but she wouldn't attempt the scallops. They were not under nor over cooked. I'm not sure what made it taste so unique but we both agreed we've never tasted anything like it. The shrimp causa wasnt the same flavor as months months ago. We don't live near so it's been a while since we've tried it. The alioli was a lot spicier than ever but still had good flavor but the causa was dry. But I had a side of alioli to help with that. Shrimp was tasty. Several other restaurants shrimp has been tasting off for months but this place shrimp tasted better. The Inca and chicha were delicious. I miss the cut up apple they use to put in it but still tastes fresh. Lomo Saltado was just two huge potato wedges and very few rice. Look at the photo. We did not eat any of it yet. This is the portion. It had good amount of jugó but the flavor wasnt like anything we'd tasted in Peru. BUT there's many many areas in Peru and we've only lived in a few and have only visited a handful more so just because it's not like any lomo we've tasted, doesn't mean it's not Peruvian. My daughter still liked it. It was high soy sauce and high vinegar taste. Lomo has both, but it was missing the cumin and flame flavor for me. We don't like potato wedges at all but she cut it up and made due with it. We were sooooo hungry from all day at the zoo so we almost finished all of it. None of the dishes are repeats for us but again, they taste good, just not the flavors we are use to, it's been a while so maybe that's why the causa and lomo tasted different. The server asked how is everything, im sure if we had said something he'd probably sought to help, but really it is what it is. I just think they cook differently then what we have had living in Peru. My husband had the seco here time ago, it's was incredibly delicious. He loves lamb. It was cooked perfectly and the frijoles were delicious as well. I hope the decide to put that dish back on the menu. Please. Not every visit is gonna go perfectly, that's not possible. Still a fun colorful restaurant with great service. Plates had great presentation. Not long at all ago I enjoyed the ceviche. I was just too cold to get it this time. Gonna got for it next time. Another couple got a huge salad. It looked so good, imma look for it on the menu next time.
