This restaurant is beautiful from the front to the back room. There's several spaces that you can sit at depending on what vibe you're going for. Since I spent a week here I got to experience all of those spaces and get to know their staff a bit. The front bar area has some high tops that's first come first serve and a handful of bar seats. Molly, Rona and Curtis took great care of me. They have good Happy hour and daily specials and had some great craft cocktail options. The weekend here was very lively, they had a pianist Friday and Saturday that played beautiful music, from classical to throwbacks and rock. I found out they also have a showing of a local magician on Friday nights which was super cool. When I would eat in the dining room I was able to try things from their small bites and dinner menu. I really enjoyed their version of Caesar salad as well as the grilled pork and octopus. The tomato jam was so delicious! Came here for my mom's birthday on a Saturday night. We had a reservation but still had to wait 10-15 minutes they were packed. Our waiter was very honest and I appreciated that when we asked him to advise us on appetizers and entrees and he said we might not like what he likes because our taste is different. I started with the Caesar salad and it was good, just a normal Caesar salad. I ordered the scallops and they came with grits and red peppers. It was very good, my favorite part was the red peppers surprisingly. The scallops were delicious, cooked perfectly. She knows the food well and with just a few questions, she can make perfect recommendations. I was attracted to a signature cocktail but asked her opinion. She asked if I like my cocktails to be refreshing. I don't. I like nonalcoholic beverages to be refreshing. I like my cocktails to taste like cocktails. It's been a long time since we have had dinner, at the restaurant in the Casa Monica. Friends had gone to the Brunch, and said, It was quite good. We decided to give it a try once again. It is on the pricey side, so you expect it to be very good. The hotel lobby and bar were decorated tastefully. The restaurant was redecorated. Still not as magnificent as the original design, but definitely better. Natalia was our waitress, and she was professional, and timed every thing perfectly. The menu was much improved, but there is always room for improvement. The foraged mushrooms were different, but many were tough, the steak while done to medium rare lacked in the presentation, Wagyu meatball appetizers were tasty. Our guest enjoyed the Mussels. Our first time there. We were seated away in a dark hidden area. The lights were lowered to almost dark as if they closing, when they weren't. We ordered the pork belly appetizer, which came out burnt. The waiter, no fault of his was very polite and apologetic. They at least had the decency to not charge us for the appetizer. We will not be going back after this. It's over rated and not as fancy as they want to portray it as. It's an old building and it's justs not at all as fancy as you'd think. Went for Prix Fixe brunch for my wife's birthday and since it had been a number of years since we had dined at the Cordoval restaurant inside the Casa Monica Hotel, we weren't sure what we were going to experience. Fortunately, overall it was really good and a delightful experience. The first course of the four courses for the brunch started off with a delightfully gooey and delicious Monkey bread along with a Berry and yogurt parfait that was good and refreshing, but I would have preferred vanilla flavored vs. plain yogurt (personal preference) and candied bacon deviled eggs. The deviled eggs were minuscule and had little to no flavor. The second course consisted of a delightful smoked salmon croffle consisting of smoked salmon on toast with a refreshing lemon cream cheese, capers and chives and a flavorful applewood smoked ham and cheese croquette. The third course consisted of your choice of six, entree sized different items--my wife had the Shakshuka Flatbread which had a baked egg on top of stewed tomatoes, peppers, herbs and goat cheese. I had the shrimp and grits which included five, nice sized shrimp on a large grit cake bed with andouille sausage, mushrooms and roasted tomatoes. It was one of the better shrimp and grit dishes that I've had but I wish they had a little more spice in it (datil peppers anyone?) and not left the spice to the excellent sausage. The fourth course was the dessert course and we received a selection of bite sized sweets including cheesecake; chocolate mouse bite; two macrons and lemon and raspberry pastry bites. All were very good. Our service by Jake was very good, professional, attentive but not obtrusive and the manager/maitre de came over a couple of times to see how things were going. the Cordova restaurant is inside the Casa Monica Hotel and the atmosphere is, while nice and elegant is a bit dark. Also, my wife's espresso martini and my Sangria were outstanding and worth the extra expense. Overall, it was a very nice meal--nice variety, tasty, and filling even though three of the courses were small bites--it really did leave us satisfied. Our server admitted it was only his second day and unfortunately it showed...he couldn't answer any menu questions, and when another staff member offered to help him, he refused. He also made my drink incorrectly, and after drinking it I became violently ill. I have unique allergies, and while the manager did come over to review the menu with me (which I appreciated), what I was served still came out completely different than described. Missing or incorrect items: Things I ordered either came out incomplete (staff later claimed they were "out" or had forgotten them) or totally off from the menu description. Inaccurate menu: My mom's Croque Monsieur was covered in tomatoes, peppers, and arugula(none of which were mentioned on the menu). Poorly executed dish: My Chicken & Waffles Benedict was supposed to come with chicken thighs, but instead I got a single chicken breast with breading that was somehow mushy and falling off at the same time. Between the unsafe handling of my allergies, the misleading menu, and poorly prepared food, this was a huge disappointment. I had bought a gift certificate for brunch for two for my husband for his birthday. We decided to use it today. The restaurant is inside the beautiful Casa Monica hotel in downtown St. Augustine. Both the lobby and the restaurant are beautiful. They serve brunch on Saturday and Sunday from 10 to 2. You get deviled eggs, monkey bread, a yogurt parfait, croquettes, and a smoked salmon item to begin. Then each patron gets to choose one of their seven entrees. I had the shrimp and grits and my husband had the chicken and waffles. Both entrees tasted delicious. To finish off the meal we received a small plate of dessert bites. So we continued walking down the street and ran into carnival coastal and thought we would sneak in for lunch. The ambience of the location was five stars. It reeked of old St Augistine and well maintained. The bar appeared to be slammed and very busy we chose the dining room which wasn't slammed and thus my disappointment. Anybody has read my reviews as I don't like to complain and I will be talking with the manager afterwards. Peggy salad which was the farmer salad the dressing was bland and didn't really offer any flavor it felt like you were just eating raw vegetables. That might be a slight exaggeration on my part but I did try it and it was disappointing. I had the fish and chips it was a red fish. I would definitely order it again it was good the coleslaw that came with it was just like a spoonful. Almost a bitter taste to the coleslaw I would not order that again. But the real challenge for me putting that all aside was the service . And that's why I'm gonna talk to the manager. It was disappointing to say the least. We ate there on the 23rd of December with 6 people. I ordered the filet and my wife ordered the wagyu steak. Others ordered the skirt steak and one ordered the meatballs. Mine was fabulous, it was cooked perfect and not overly seasoned. However, my wife steak was not wagyu quality, in fact we thought it was London Broil. Very tough and no taste. She sent it back and helped me with my filet. The others were not impressed either and the server seems to not be too concerned either. The group of 6 ended up sending one meal back to be cooked more and one was returned and not replaced. Did we get a visit from management? NO! Drink prices are typical with a huge wine cellar to choose from. I was part of a large group of diners and service was fine, however, two entrees had to be sent back for additional cooking as the flat iron steak was under cooked. I ordered the flat iron steak also but it was cooked just fine. I did not care for the Black Garlic Caesar Salad; the dressing was not very good, the romaine lettuce was presented in whole leaf stalks, and the portion was inadequate at a cost of $12. It's so lavishly intercut, upon first sight it took my breath away, and the overall seating in the bar and lunch area is most comfortable with the deco enhancing and added to the overall atmosphere. For lunch I had their Hunter's Board comprised of Sweet Coppa, Sopressata, Country Pate, Navarra, Morbier Cana de Cabra, Quince Paste, Tunisian olives, Valencia almonds and Crusty Bread which was very good and a regular new and unique adventure to my palate. We came here for Christmas lunch. We had 2:45 reservations and our server was Martin. The price was $65.00 per person and they also added on an automatic 20% gratuity. I normally tip more than 20%, but when you see it will automatically be added on you kind know up front you have no say over the service you receive. We arrived 5 minutes early and we had to wait for a table, and then once seated we were seated for at least 10 minutes before being offered water or anything. It was a pre fixed 3 course menu and there was no bread offered at all, not even for purchase. For the first course I got the Beet Salad and my husband had the Everything Caesar. You can tell by the piece of parsley on the Caesar just how small the salad was. The beat salad had only 1 small roasted beet and some 'chipped beets' on top. Most of the salad was arugula. For the second course my husband got the Foie Gras crusted filet and I got the pan seared scallops. The other items listed as coming with the meal was placed beneath the meat and was hardly noticeable. For a 'filet' it was tough and chewy and my husband ordered it rare and it came more medium. The 3 sea scallops I got I cut my 1st one in half and it was still cold inside so I sent them back. Everything was an extremely long wait, I had to ask another waitress to please get my waiter to return to kitchen. Extremely disappointed in the quality, the quantity and the service. I cannot believe the negative reviews I've seen. My wife and I have been very fortunate to eat some incredible meals all over the world across a variety of cuisines ....This was hands-down one of the finest meals my wife and I have had anywhere. We arrived relatively late on a Thursday evening and started with a lemon drop martini which was fantastic with a unique raw sugar rim. My wife had the shrimp cocktail and I the wedge salad. Both were fantastic. The 20 count shrimp were cooked perfectly with a delicious cocktail sauce (could have used a little more of it) and the wedge salad, which is one of my absolute favorites, was one of the best, if not the best, I've ever had. The unique chipotle, smoky ranch with blue cheese crumbles and smoked bacon was absolutely incredible. Then came the entrées. I selected the grouper with butternut squash sauce and my wife had the fillet with the house-made Cordova signature sauce. The steak was topped with a beautiful roasted tomato and cooked absolutely perfectly and the sauce was a beautiful blend of tangy and sweet. But the grouper stole the show. The butternut squash sauce and the chunks of butternut squash along with the caramelized onions, pistachio and the perfectly cooked fillet of grouper was simply divine. We weren't planning on dessert but the appetizers and entrée were so incredible, we had to try. Our delightful server recommended the bread pudding. The Italian gelato on top was the perfect compliment to one of the best bread puddings either of us have ever had. This is a fine dining restaurant and is reasonably priced as such. We found the value and quality to be absolutely fantastic and the service was attentive, knowledgeable, and efficient.
