The salmon was very flavorful (potentially even too salty which I never say), and the dishes the rest of our party ordered we're tasty as well. I think overall the price to quality ratio was not quite good enough to go back, but what do you expect when this place is smack in the middle of downtown. It's happening. Service is hit or miss. You know the place; you go there a few times. One day lovely experience; the next day, oh boy. Why am I here? Very standard beer selection with craft beer options. The food is good but again standard. But, that is ok. When you are hungry an overcooked burger is good. lol. The Corner Restaurant bar is a 500-square-foot bar space. Seating on all four sides. But if you are not in a certain seating area; bartender(s) miss you for service. You have to walk your space if you are bartending. Constant motion around the bar and looking out is essential. You can't see your guests if you have your back to customers. It annoys the bleep out of me. Once you see this, you will know what I mean. Overall, great location for meeting friends or socializing with co-workers. Outdoor table service. Couches for that lay-back vibe. Well-designed restaurant and bar. You just have to watch out for service (can be slow or ?), and the birds flying through the space. Did someone say, Hitchcock? Our favorite joint during our stay in Austin. How much did we love it? We visited three evenings out of a four night stay. The open air atmosphere with the great service, delicious drinks, and good food make this a dining trifecta. The vibe is relaxed- lots of bar and loveseat seating (there are tables too, but we never ventured off the loveseat). The only annoyance was when I saw a few groups with 2 people taking up 2 loveseats- c'mon sit together- more room for everybody. Every drink was tasty. Loved the Bee's Knees and the Corner Marg. The last night we had dinner- the Corner Burger. The French fries were crispy and salty and were a great appetizer or a side with the burger. The candied jalapeño and the blue cheese gave this American wagyu burger amazing juicy flavor. If travels take us back to Austin, we will definitely be back at the Corner! Corner was a miss for us. The service was lackadaisical and poorly trained. They don't have frozen margaritas. I asked our waiter if they could make me a margarita straight up. He pointed to two margaritas on the menu. I reiterated that I wanted it straight up and shaken like a martini with regular salt on the rim; not the spicy salt. He served the Corner Marg in an ice filled tumbler with spicy salt. He quickly turned to serve drinks to another table. After a couple of minutes I was able to waved him back. I explained in detail that straight up meant served in a martini glass; shaken not stirred. No ice! He returned moments later. He or the bartender simply poured the drink brought earlier (including the spicy salt that I twice told him that i did not want) into an unremarkable cheap champagne glass. Again, he turned without even asking if he had gotten it right. I looked at it in disbelief. No plain margarita salt on the rim. The red spicy salt was dissolving into the drink before my eyes. Of course this played out in front of the rolling eyes of my guest - Mexico's Ambassador. I took a few deep breaths. I then took a sip. It tasted horrible; not even close to a margarita. That was it. I paid $16 for that embarrassing moment and yes we immediately left. I wish I had the presence of mind to take pictures, but I was diplomatically discrete. BTW - We also had a 6:30 reservation. I arrived at 6:15; my guest at 6:20. We had to wait until 6:40. Of course this a Marriott property and toddlers taken to bars have priority over adults with a reservation. It was an embarrassment all around. The poorly trained staff included the waiter, hostesses, and bar keepers. The guacamole and chips were okay, but the Redfish Ceviche's was a non-starter. read more

Avoid at all costs. Even for Austin standards the service here is the worst. I had a female bartender with brown hair at the indoor bar on March 22, 2025. She couldn't have been more rude and condescending. Rolling her eyes and being upset to be bothered to do the most basic aspects of her job. My friend and surrounding guest were laughing at the gall this woman had. While enjoying a weekend festival in downtown Austin, we decided to stop in at the Corner restaurant in Austin. It is a great place to stop for a relaxing and enjoyable meal. One of the highlights of this restaurant is the lovely outdoor patio, a cool and shady spot to escape the Texas heat. The Spicy Guacamole. is definitely worth trying. This appetizer is packed with flavor, thanks to the addition of cilantro, lime, charred serrano chili, and habanero. The spiciness of the chili and habanero are balanced out by the creaminess of the avocado, making for a perfect blend of flavors. The guacamole is served with crispy tortilla chips, which provide the perfect crunch to complement the creaminess of the dip and not too salty. If you are a fan of tacos, you must try the Smoked Brisket Tacos. The tacos are made with smoked brisket, and topped with chipotle crema, pickled red onion, and guacamole. The combination of flavors and textures is simply delicious, and the smokiness of the brisket adds an extra layer of depth to the dish. It was so good, but hard to finish all. Our party of four, all ordered the Summer Year Round Marg and it was the perfect choice. Made with Espolòn Reposado tequila, Grand Marnier, watermelon, hibiscus, and lime, this drink is the epitome of summer in a glass. The tequila provides a smooth and slightly smoky base for the cocktail, while the watermelon and hibiscus add a fruity and floral element to the drink. The lime provides a nice tartness to balance out the sweetness of the other. The Corner Restaurant was the perfect afternoon stop. We would definitely return. read more

This place was within walking distance to a conference I was attending at the Embassy Suites so I came here for supper. Seating was immediate this night and my table was in a quiet spot even though it was close to the kitchen. This turned out to be to my advantage. I got the half chicken and a cold brew. The kitchen staff were all dressed immaculately and deported themselves so professionally that it was pleasant and entertaining to watch them. My meal had a great presentation and the combination of flavors were great. My waitress gave me just the right amount of attention at regular enough intervals that I lacked nothing. The place looked great and was clean. I enjoyed the heavy duty metal flatware and cloth napkins. Great value in my opinion. read more

Though it's a hotel restaurant, it's actually pretty good. Well crafted cocktails and lots of delicious bites to share. An outside table is especially nice for people watching. House-Made Zucchini Cornbread: Comes in a cast iron skillet with a nice crispy top. Underneath is a warm moist grainy cornbread that goes excellent with the butter on the side. There were green bits in there, but you won't even notice it's zucchini thankfully. Burnt Ends: An often overlooked meat that is so good! Came in cubes that were well cooked and nice and tender. Seemed more wet than typical BBQ, so maybe it was braised? Either way, it tasted so rich and so delicious against those little dinner rolls. Three Dips & Chips: I got this for the queso. And the queso kinda tasted like the traditional Velveeta variety. It hit the spot for sure, but wasn't anything original/innovative. Beef Barbacoa Tacos: A huge amount of meat. Especially loved the crispy shallots on top to give it a nice crunch. The herbal chimichurri was a great pairing too. Pork Carnitas Tacos: Very porky and very meaty. Didn't quite have that fried (after braising) texture that some some carnitas does. But was still delicious. Shrimp and Grits: The grits were smooth and creamy. The shrimp was big and plump, but kinda bland / unseasoned. Though the tomato sauce on the edges of the grits helped liven it up. Warm Pecan Brownie: Wow, this was delicious! It managed to have a lot of delicious crispy edges but also warm gooey center. And the fresh Texas pecans, way better than when brownies use bitter walnuts. Really great with ice cream. Tres Leches: Came in a little mason jar with a smear of dulce de leche on top. The cake seemed firmer and less soaked than other tres leches I've had before that is just swimming in cream. But it was moist enough. And the bites with dulce de leche tasted great. read more

We were staying at the JW Marriott and the weather was not your typical February weather. It was freezing and we didn't want to venture out. Corner Restaurant saved the day. We ate at the restaurant five times while we stayed and every time it was stellar. The service, the food, the drinks and the atmosphere were absolutely stellar. Don't let the hotel restaurant fool you -- it's definitely a restaurant that would be on my routine places to go. Highly recommended! read more

We had a reservation from open table but the hostess allowed us to sit on the patio. We opted for mimosas and the juice flight. We ordered the ceviche and biscuits to start. We never got the ceviche so can't comment but the biscuits were warm and soft inside crispy outside. That's how I like mine but I know biscuits have a different flow for some. Ate a late dinner here at the beginning of the year during a long weekend stay at the JW (pre-COVID) because it was convenient and the menu looked promising. But sadly, I wasn't very impressed with the food. The house-made zucchini cornbread sounded amazing, and was served in a giant, round cast-iron skillet -- so promising, right? Unfortunately, it didn't have the great crust I expected, and the inside was dry and crumbly. I only had the one slice. My main dish was grilled chicken with a spinach, pecan, and pomegranate salad with a really yummy vinaigrette -- it was the best part of my meal since the chicken was also dry (overcooked). The waitress apologized and offered to have both the cornbread and chicken redone, but I was tired and ready to go up to my room by the time she checked in to see how I liked my meal. (It was obviously a slow night, so she kind of went MIA after dropping off my food.) The ambience was nice -- I sat at a high-top table across from the bar, not far from the indoor hotel entrance, and the lighting was dim but not dark, the seating arrangements intimate, but without feeling too closed in. The outdoor seating area looking very comfortable and inviting, but it was a little too cool and windy for me to want to sit outdoors. Maybe this was just a one-off experience, but there are so many really good eating options in Austin that I'd be hard pressed to return for anything other than a convenient evening nightcap. read more

This review is long overdue as I've dined here multiple times (breakfast/lunch/dinner). It's a pretty good spot in terms of location, menu and price points. Recently, my visits have been more around late lunch service. The Skillet Cornbread is one of my favorite starters and the Old Fashioned Wagyu Burger is a solid favorite - consistently tasty. As for their cocktails, I tend to always order one of the two (depending on my mood) - Jalapeno Hibiscus Margarita and Signature Old Fashioned - both are delicious and never disappoints. My friend had the chicken fried chicken and said it was the best they ever had. Spicy guac I get every time. I've had every salad on the menu - adobo chicken is the best by far. Outdoor seating is open and the patio is literally on a corner street in downtown Austin so the vibes are high! Great location. We previously ate 2 of these on every visit, we didn't even finish one. The seven layer salad included chicken. The chicken was too spicy and tasted pretty bad regardless. Apparently people don't eat much of it when ordered, our server didn't even comment when clearing the table despite only three bites were missing. This is an excellent place to go for burgers and bourbon! I went with the signature "Corner Burger" and it lived up to its namesake. Wagyu beef, meaty bacon, blue cheese, sliced tomatoes and butter lettuce make this burger perfect. The candied jalapeño gives it the plus, as in A+! This one makes it into my "Top 10 Favorite Burgers" in Austin list. The accompanying fries were very tasty too, the perfect cut (not too thin, not to thick) and they are nicely seasoned.
