Corner Bakery Cafe was delicious and quick, with great service! The staff was friendly and efficient, despite the restaurant being very busy. Additionally the restaurant was clean and the atmosphere was comfortable. I would definitely take my friends here to go out to lunch! The food... I ate lunch here for the first time today. There was such a great selection, it was hard to choose. I decided on the 3 Cheese Mac N' Cheese. And let me tell you, I am a huge mac n' cheese fan, so it takes a really good mac n' cheese to satisfy me. It was very good! It was covered in hot, creamy cheese sauce, and they went the extra mile by sprinkling yummy toasted bread crumbs on top. AND I was pleasantly surprised to see that it came with a mini piece of crispy garlic bread. The combination was perfection. I can also testify that their MnM, snickerdoodle, and toffee cookies are to die for. Theyre very large and crunchy on the outside with a soft center. The cream cheese brownie was also delicious. It was very thick, and it was more like eating a piece of brownie cheesecake than a brownie with cream cheese. I've been very satisfied with everything I've ordered at Corner Bakery Cafe. read more

Went there around 11ish on a Friday morning. Ordered the Anaheim panini with oatmeal. The lady at the register then told me that they didn't have oatmeal anymore (after a certain time that wasn't specified on the menu). So I just got the sandwich. Awful service. We ordered a lunch delivery and it was 48 minutes late!!! The service was so unacceptable, when I called to check on where the food was they put me on hold for over 6 minutes, twice!!! My wife and I just spent our 10th anniversary in D.C, we decided to eat breakfast at the Corner Bakery Café on 03-23-2014..... It was great. I had a breakfast plate, while my wife had a light muffin. Both were fantastic. My plate was well seasoned, and perfectly proportioned for the first meal of the day. The staff was well managed and efficient and the café clean/orderly. If we return to D.C. we will definitely be returning to this establishment. read more

They chat it up behind the counter while people wait in line. They didn't give me a receipt for my order and forgot to give me part of my order. This place is a failure in every respect across the board. I've never yelped before and only reason I would waste another second of my time mulling about this place is so that I don't take this tidal wave of restaurant wrath out on any unassuming coworkers. I've had the displeasure of frequenting this place chiefly on days where I've had 5-minute lunch breaks and did not have time to walk to any legitimate restaurants, thus resigning myself to settle for the following: MULTIPLE wrong orders; burnt bagels; no utensils or napkins for orders which clearly call for them (and none available at self-service stations); muffins with price pins still stuck in them; 20 minute waits for simple to-go orders, such as bagels, even at 3pm in the afternoon, "free wireless" that works for about 30 seconds at a time, if at all; and complete closings-off of sections with people still in them, including one elderly tourist who practically had to crawl over high chairs in order to leave. All for a pig trough's worth of overpriced slop. The only reason I can fathom for which this location is still in business is that it preys largely on tourists who don't know any better. Please, take a lesson from someone who's been burned with every visit: walk the extra half block to Devon & Blakely for some real food. read more

I've eaten at this location for years (primarily because I live a few blocks away). The food is decent and fairly cheap. The staff is generally cordial. I have only one problem with this location. About 20% of the time, this location cannot serve me the item that I want. Commuter croissant? (We're out of croissants). All American scramblers? (We're out of eggs....or potatoes). It would be one thing if this was a new short term experience. But..... it's been going on for years!!! THEY SHOULD KNOW BETTER!!! I often go to other places to find what I want. I eat out at different places 6 days a week. I have no problem getting what I want. But this location is 99% of my food ordering headaches. For reliability, I suggest another corner bakery or another restaurant. This one is too much of a tightwad with food supply to be dependable.. This location is near the National Mall and White House. On a Saturday afternoon, it is busy. Ordering was difficult as they ran out of bread for panini, some cheeses, etc. which is disappointing during weekend lunch rush. Overall it was not a clean location either, although they had a constant bus 'boy', tables weren't completely clean and there was trash on the floor. If we're in the area again for lunch, I'll look for another spot. read more

The staff at this Corner Bakery could not have been nicer. I called in wanting to buy one of their pie boxes (it's Thanksgiving and I needed to travel with a homemade pie). Their catering staff didn't even charge me--they just gave me the box and wished me a good day. Even when I insisted on paying they would not accept. Stopped here before starting our day during a weekend stay in DC. The location was convenient since it was around the corner of our hotel and we just wanted a quick breakfast with no frills. The place was quite crowded, giving us the impression that it would indeed be a great place to visit on a rushed morning. The cashier in the front was grumpy and seemed incredibly rushed and rushed us through the or ding process. Due to this I settled on the first thing that sounded appetizing, the bacon and egg panini, two others in my family also ordered the same. Once you order you are left to gather your drink and try to find an empty table to sit at. The coffee itself tasted a bit burnt and I couldn't help but be disappointed that they only had skim and half and half to put into my coffee. The bakery didn't even have brand name sugar and sweeteners. The prices here an be quite steep, so it's disappointing to see them cut corners. We unfortunately couldn't find a table to sit the five of us comfortably, and had to pull an extra chair up, leaving us cramped. The dining area itself also was cramped. For example, one time as I got up to stand my chair hit the table next to us. The food itself was good, but nothing to brag about. My panini was crunchy and I was happy to see that they weren't stingy on the bacon. But then again, how can you screw up a panini? Everything was just "ok" and I think the only reason this place does so well is because of the prime location. read more

Unbelievably terrible customer service. When we initially went up to the counter to order, the woman working there said she wouldn't take our order, that someone else would be along to take it. She proceeded to gossip with a coworker while we were standing there waiting. Finally the same woman took our order and went back to talking. We waited 15 minutes with no food (and no one in line ahead of us) because in addition to those two women, there was one guy playing on his phone and another flirting with a girl. I eventually had to go up and ask about my food and saw that it was just sitting there getting cold. read more

Two stars only because the desserts we had were okay (although there were only three to choose from, and two were cookies). Other than that, I wouldn't go back due to the employees. I worked in retail for many years, and I just don't get employees that are rude to customers. The cashier was beyond rude, she was non-verbal, worked at an utterly snail-like pace and could not have been more unengaged, never looked up. When I pointed to a cake and asked if it was pound cake, she barely nodded yes (turns out it was lemon cake instead, but luckily I like lemon cake). Waiting for her to walk over and slice a piece was almost comical. Our two cups of hot chocolate took ten minutes to make by another employee, equally expressionless and disdainful. No one was going to hurry them along, especially not those pesky customers. It was as someone else noted - you were invisible. It took us 20 minutes total with no one in front of us in line. I normally wouldn't mind waiting a bit longer if I were at least treated like a human being. My daughter and I had just come from the theater on a freezing cold day and were looking forward to a nice dessert and hot drink. Next time it's Starbucks! read more

I am sad to say that the food quality here is declining. I come here when I am in DC as it is near our company's office. Their Asian Chopped salad had been a favorite of mine. Not any more. I go back and forth between 2 and 3 stars - 2 stars for the very disappointing BBLT sandwich but more stars for the fairly friendly customer service. First the sandwich: I ordered the BBLT (Applewood smoked bacon, tomatoes, leaf lettuce and cracked pepper balsamic mayo - sounds yummy!). What I got was most of the sandwich (bacon was yummy, tomatoes and lettuce were fresh); what I didn't get was the mayo - the photo shows mayo from a packet I stole...errr, borrowed (in case she's reading this)... from a coworker. I also received the stem cap of the tomato. I'm all for using every part of an animal, fruit, or veggie...but not in my sandwich. And not when I'm paying for it. It's a scrap of the tomato. A small point, but disappointing...as was, what would have been, a very dry sandwich. After waiting a bit longer than at other places, I was expecting a bit more.
