Probably one of the worst Potbellys I've been to - We came here for lunch, and I had my usual of the Chicken Salad sandwich, toasted, with provolone, mayo, garlic aioli, and extra giardiniera - unfortunately, the chicken salad was poorly and improperly made, as there was absolutely no seasoning whatsoever. In addition, the chicken salad was just overly 'wet', as there was just extra liquid; not sure if something was just not drained properly? Note that if you order a salad, you'll get less protein but more than enough lettuce - my counterpart was not pleased with hers. The place was super crowded, as it was busy during the lunch rush, with individuals ordering in-person as well as doing a pickup. The tables are not attended to at all, so you'll be responsible in wiping down the surfaces and the seats; avoid the restrooms, as it's just awful. Came here for dinner with a tour group. We ordered ahead and they had meals in individual bags ready when we arrived. It was not busy on a Thursday around 5:30, so there were plenty of tables inside and outside. I had the chicken salad which was a good sized portion and tasted good. Others had sandwiches and said they were good. When we arrived, there was a homeless person lying on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant. He got up and went into the restaurant, drank something and left after a few minutes. Otherwise, the ambiance was decent. read more

I thought I had placed my lunch order via the app and must have forgotten to hit "submit". I waited in line to pick up for a while (lunch rush!) only to realize my error when the cashier couldn't find my order. I said it was ok (my error), and turned to walk back to my office when she kindly said, "It happens. Order now-- I've got you." And, she did. I waited for another few minutes and then, voila-- she handed me my order with a big smile. She was so gracious and my sandwich was perfect. I didn't catch her name, but I will soon. I placed an order at 12:30 PM for pick-up, but when I arrived, the restaurant was packed and orders were moving extremely slowly--other customers had already been waiting 45 minutes. I returned at 2:15 PM, assuming my order would be ready, but was told they hadn't received it. I had to read my order aloud from my confirmation email while the cashier scribbled it on a bag. I then waited 30 more minutes as all other orders were completed first. The explanation was that online deal orders go to a different system--but why wasn't this checked for over 2 hours? And how is that a reasonable explanation? My skinny sandwich was poorly made with leaking sauces, and the large sandwich had incorrect ingredients. Meanwhile, I stared at a sign claiming "FAST 8 minutes through the line, max," which felt like a cruel joke. This was an unacceptable experience and completely failed to meet expectations for speed, accuracy, and quality. read more

Before I begin this review let me start off by saying that this review is based solely on my opinion and my opinion alone so with that being said let's go!!. This business is has quite a few locations just in the downtown DC area alone,I'm not sure if there are any other locations outside of that area but.... We walk in and we are not greeted by the two gentlemen making the sandwiches but my wife and I spoke out of kindness anywhere. My wife ordered the single meatball sandwich on white and I decided on the regular club on wheat bread, both sandwiches were quite good with mine being a little dry with very little bacon so that's one star off, the other star is because the bathroom was pretty much dated and in need of a makeover.. or just a few minor changes ( like tightening of the loose toilet seat for example)! But other than those two things I would definitely visit again on my next visit to DC!. read more

It's a sandwich chain that fails to disappoint. Food is delicious for both times I've been to this chain. Only issue I've had for both situations if that they just trust you to tell them what you've ordered and there is no transfer of information. I could have told the cashier that I ordered a veggie sandwich then I had really ordered the beef and they wouldn't have been the wiser. In fact, I was charged for an original sized (medium) sandwich when I only ordered the skinny. I asked for avocado as an add on but they never put it in. And because the sandwich is not very visible, I never knew until I opened it up to eat. I wasn't very happy about this so I would give this a mark down but the food was delicious. If I lived near one, I would order here all the time. I won't mark them down this one time because I don't think this happens often and this seems more of a corporate structure issue and come on... This food is wayyyyy better than subway!  Overall, watch out for errors in billing our order but I would get their sandwiches over and over again.  *Disclaimer: As of 2020, I refuse to rate restaurants anything lower than 4 stars unless I truly believe they are deserving of a lower status. My Italian sub (I think they call them hoagies down here? idk, I'm from Connecticut) was good but not great. The subs/hoagies are strangely flat - I think they get squished or something when they go through the "cooking machine." I got a cup of mac and cheese too, which was fine, and a banana smoothie. Again, nothing was bad, but nothing was excellent. This is by my office, but I don't think it'll ever become my lunch place of choice. Bottom Line: Upbeat and friendly staff serving tasty sandwiches, salads, chips, cookies, coffees and sodas. Potbelly is a great place to grab a quick lunch. Their sandwiches are always tasty and their new salads make eating healthy easy. This location is a bit loud for me but I appreciate that they are super fast even during the DC lunch rush. Here area few other notes about this location: - Sandwiches are always made to order and all the ingredients are fresh. My go to is the Mediterranean with chicken but the new powerhouse salad with avocado just might be my new go to. - Drink options include my beloved fountain Diet Coke and other Coca-Cola options. They also have a "bottle shop" where you can get different bottled drinks from the cooler. - The staff is upbeat and friendly. - The interior is typical Potbelly - a potbelly stove, pictures of potbelly stoves, some local nostalgia and vintage looking stuff. There are enough great local sandwich shops (Sundevich in nearby Blagden Alley, G by Mike Isabella, to name a few) that you'd think chains like Potbellys won't do well. However, they do own a space in downtown DC because they 1) cater for large groups, 2) create tasty breakfast and lunch sandwiches quickly, and 3) the chocolate chip cookies. Even if you don't love sandwiches, those cookies. Baked with oatmeal, the chocolate chips really pop. They have large cookies, mini cookies, and cookies for everyone in a bag. Very disappointed. This was my first visit to Potbelly. I was unfamiliar with how to order, what to specify (vs. already included), etc. I was met by an extremely rude employee (the first point of contact during the sandwich ordering process) who was belligerent and unfriendly. Rather than welcoming a first-time customer, she pushed me aside and did nothing to explain how things work. However, after finally getting my food and sitting down to eat, the food was delicious and the cashier who last interacted with me was friendly and attentive to assisting me. Normally, I eat lunch at work during weekdays. Today, I decided to make the shirt walk over to Potbelly. I always thought of Potbelly as a mediocre sandwich chain that can provide a good bang for your buck. The big wreck on wheat clocks in at over 809 calories. This was my first time at a Pot Belly sandwich shop. Apparently it was also the first day for most of the people working at Pot Belly too! The food is actually very good if you can navigate the service line. It seems simple enough: Step 1: Order sandwich Step 2: Add toppings Step 3: Pay In reality, I went here twice and both times the system broke down at Step 2. Really seems like no one manages the store which is a shame because the food is actually quite good. I went the second time to see if I just hit them on a bad day. Since I found the same issues on both occasions I guess it is really a systems issue. My suggestion is to bring some patience with you and make sure you have the time. Potbelly is one of my favorite sandwich chains, and this is one of the best Potbellys out there. If you haven't been to this chain before, you should try the Wreck (with hot peppers!), The pizza sandwich, or their hot ham and cheese. Their cookies are the greatest (always a little too limp for my taste) , but they'll do in a pinch. This location in particular is terrific. The staff is friendly and they get to know you and will make a point of greeting you. I honestly haven't yet had a bad experience there. They also get you in and out during really busy lunch times in less than 10 minutes. read more

When I go to a place like Potbelly, there are two expectations I have: decent food and fast service. I had one. The other? Not so much. This location is 2 blocks from the convention center and, while Sundays may not be busy for most restaurants in business districts, conventions are a common occurrence. The restaurant appeared woefully understaffed for a day with a major conference. I waited 10 minutes to even place an order and another 5-10 before actually paying and sitting down to eat. The food? Standard for Potbelly - decent and not horribly expensive. But when it takes me less time to eat at a chain counter-service restaurant than it does to wait in line, something is wrong. read more

I normally find the service in this Potbelly fairly consistent, as I usually visit during the lunch rush (somewhere between 11:45 and 1:15). That aside, I expect that I will have to SHOUT my order to the line staff since the level of noise during the lunch rush is quite high (one of the reasons I rarely dine in during this time). I do appreciate that they attempt to expedite service with a staffer walking through the line with an iPad to take orders. Today's visit was much more disappointing. In an attempt to step outside my usual of tuna on wheat (which is always flavorful!), I ordered a "chicken salad salad." When repeating my order to two different staffers at the other end of the oven, I was eventually handed a salad after being asked if I wanted "everything on it." I paid and left, and was ultimately disappointed upon arriving back that I was given a plain salad with NOTHING additional in it (not even chicken!!!). I'm not even sure which salad I was given! It contained spinach and romaine with chickpeas and cherry tomatoes... nothing more. While I pride Potbelly on their variety of sandwiches, stay away from their salads. I've ordered a few others in the past (and correctly received what I ordered), and the flavors were quite bland. read more

A significant step up from fast food. I had an original Italian with hot peppers and onions. It was nearly a perfect toasted sandwich. After 6 PM on a Thursday evening, I tried to purchase a milkshake or smoothie. Unfortunately, this restaurant ran out of milk so neither request could be granted. Overall, the restaurant is probably fine but I guess it was a hot day so they inaccurately forecasted how many milkshakes would be sold on a hot day. My suggestion would be for the management to pay closer attention to the weather forecast for planning purposes. So my husband and son enjoyed the food. I ordered steelcut oats. The woman did not pass on my order to the guy getting our food so I had to place my order a second time. Was charged extra for extra chicken that should have substituted for the hummus I didn't want and some feta cheese in the Powerhouse salad but no feta cheese and no extra chicken. Overall this place was a great, quick stop sandwich shop. I had a flatbread chicken & cheddar sandwich with a side of bacon Mac and cheese. The sandwich was ok, but not filling. Wow... the only word that comes to mind for this place. We were visiting DC and as we walked by, we noticed the name. Immediately I was intrigued and decided to stop by for a quick bite for lunch. I loved the various photos, decorations and overall eccentric vibe inside. The menu was easy to read too. I ordered the tuna salad on flatbread.
