The Corner Bakery Café has sort of a manufactured, assembly line feel to the ambiance like it belongs in a mall court yard but don't let that dissuade you from eating here. The Corner Bakery Café hits the mark as far as comfort food. I was drawn here by their breakfast menu. The moment I found out they make French toast from brioche bread baked in rich vanilla custard served with bacon I was sold. But their innovative menu doesn't end there. They offer gourmet sandwiches like grilled Panini and Chicken Pesto on Ciabatta Ficelle, fresh salads, hearty bowls of soup as well as a decadent array of baked sweets such as cakes, cookies and brownies. They even had a decent espresso. The food is all made to order with simple ingredients. They actually have quite a few healthy choices on the menu despite the plethora of baked goods and healthy assortment of comfort food. They offer gluten free soups and apple chicken sausage as a low fat alternative to pork sausage. The Corner Bakery is a welcomed addition to the landscape of San Antonio restaurants. It's an excellent escape from the breakfast tacos, doughnuts and waffle houses. While being new to San Antonio, they've been around the country a long time with locations from Los Angeles to Washington D.C. To me, that shows they have a proven record for success. 8:45 am, it's no reason why our food should be this bad. I ordered pancakes and bacon. My bacon tasted as if it was re-warmed stale and my pancakes were under cooked. My co-worker has a breakfast platter that included bacon, scramble eggs and potatoes. Her bacon was warm and greasy. Her eggs were watered down or powdered. The only thing hot and fresh was her potatoes. So sad so mad because I was the one that recommended we ate here this morning. But Won't happen again! We stopped in there after attempting to go to sushi zushi, but they were packed and this place was pretty open. We walked in and the list of sandwiches looked delicious, but they had me at pretzel bread. All the caloric info for all of their food is listed on the menu, which makes me feel good about eating there, because they're not trying to hide anything. Nice little upscale deli~ I opted for the chicken salad sandwich and side salad, nice and fresh i might add...It was very tasty,an little heavy on the mayo but do-able love the nuts in the bread, full of flavor and soft. Supposedly all fresh baked quality homemade goods. Something hard to come by in a world of processed; artificially flavored so-called food :p It's not cheap, buts its in Stone Oak...it's expected. Grabbed some food to go and I may come back in the near future. I opted for the Chicken Ceasars Flatbread, with a side of carrots, and the loaded potato soup. While everything tasted good and fresh, I find it to be a bit pricy for 8.00 and some change...and that was without a drink. I did have an issue with the flatbread being quite soggy from the dressing, which made for a bit of a messy experience. The soup was amazing. I would definitely grab just a bowl of this soup alone. This was my first time to eat at a Corner Bakery, and I thoroughly enjoyed my experience. I ordered the Asian salad, which was fresh and delicious, and came with bread. The best thing though, is that the calorie counts are on the menu items! So you can plan ahead before ordering! The restaurant was packed when we went on a Saturday afternoon, which means I must not be the only one that thinks it's delicious. The staff were friendly and our meal was delivered to our table, without having to walk back up to the counter. I didn't try dessert, but the assortment of cakes and desserts looked divine! Very average cafe with typical sandwich and soup combos. Nothing here stands out as a "signature food item", that I would ever crave or specifically think about. Friendly staff, clean environment but again nothing spectacular. We sat on the patio because the weather permitted. The food was brought out quickly. The sandwich we ordered is called the "Cuban press sandwich". The meat had no flavor, it was packed with mustard and the bread was very dense and dry. They give you some kettle chips or you can have carrots instead. For extra fee you may upgrade to a side salad. Sandwiches are about $8. Eating healthy can be delicious! Went in today with my wife and had a terrific meal. We both had combo meals that knocked us off our socks. She had soup/ sandwich combo with tomato basil soup and some sandwich with grilled veggies. SHE LOVED IT! I had salad/ sandwich combo with a chopped salad and half of an Asian spicy pork sandwich! WHAT HAPPENED TO CORNER BAKERY? This used to be one of our favorite places. We went in today, there's currently very limited baked goods, the cashier was very unpleasant. The condiments area was not stocked, and the place was not as clean as usual. Even the person who brought our food was unpleasant, it was as if we were interrupting her day. I just had breakfast here and the food was good but their menu shows calories and they're false. When I tried to get one of the personnel's to give a reason why the calories are different in My Fitness App, they gave a crazy response, like " because it depends on if you have egg whites or substitutes. The menu should reflect substitute calories. THEN they looked on their own company website and the Anaheim scrambler was actually 900+ calories!! 300+ more calories than advertised! First time here and was really satisfied with the level of attention and service given by the staff. The manager was walking the bakery while his assistant checked on tables. We had a problem with our soup and they corrected it before we brought it to their attention. The food was a little bland but I also realized I'm one of the only people here under 60 so I get it. Sad. It's kind of a mix of a La Madeleine and Panera just smaller and no salad bar and the selection of sweets is very limited with pretty high prices. They sell salads, panini's, soup, chili, 5 types of pasta, and sandwiches. I guess, when I go into a bakery, I don't want to buy the same tasting things as the grocery stores and that is what they sell here. I don't think they sell anything different here, it's just another sandwich place. I really wanted to like this place because it's beautiful on the outside and I love any place that has the word bakery, but it's more of a sandwich shop. I travel to Houston and Dallas a lot and eat at these restaurants frequently. Love their food. But this location has never lived up to the same quality as the Dallas and Houston locations. Both times I ate here weeks apart I received a panini that was over toasted and instead of tasting the chicken pomodori flavor I tasted burnt bread. If I had looked at the other recent reviews of this location before going I would not have gone at all and will not go to this location ever again. They do not represent the normal quality of Corner Bakery Cafe. Should have known something was wrong when it was so easy to get a parking spot and an empty table each time at lunchtime. I was looking forward to a sugary snack and an espresso after an appointment, and saw this place, and thought "bakery must equal good sweets and coffee." Wrong assumption. I hate giving one star reviews, and generally try to find some redeeming quality, but I couldn't. From a cold espresso, to a stale cookie, and the marble brownie that tasted like it had been purchased at Costco, then frozen, and meh service, it is justified. I went there for breakfest and I loved this place. I really like that they have the cal. count on all their items listed on the menu. I had the breakfest panini thin with apple wood smoked bacon, yummy, and a cinnamon roll that was amazing. I can't belive someone with a mouth full of sweet teeth could say it, but it's true the cinnamon roll may have been a bit to sweet! The atmosphere has a lovely old cafe charm. I sat in the booth next to the big picture window where I could look out and see their small patio and flower boxes along their wrought iron gate. Four large piping hot fluffy pancakes cooked to perfection with crispy Applewood bacon were delivered to our table by one of their very helpful and cheerful employees. Why I have I never tried this place?!? It's very similar to a McAllister in my opinion. You can choose 2 items to make a meal if you want variety. I had half a sandwich and salad, very fresh ingredients and great flavor. Price point was about $9/person before buying a drink which is a little bit pricey for lunch I think. Corner Bakery just opened in Stone Oak and it is a great addition to San Antonio. I had a chopped chicken salad with blue cheese, bacon, and avocado. It was a very fresh tasting salad and I like that they list calorie counts on their menu. I also had the chicken noodle soup which tasted homemade and delicious. I know where to send my husband for soup when someone gets a cold. There is a nice selection of breads, coffee cakes and sweets and the sandwiches looked really good as well. One hour and thirty minutes and still no food!!! I don't need to say more, but I must. I will warn you because I wished someone would have warned me. I cannot rate the food because we left when it was clear it was not going to be ready anytime soon. I'm over 50 years old and never in my life have I waited that long for food after ordering and I have never written a review on anything...this was that bad of an experience. I urge you to read before going...and I specifically want ownership to pay attention. This was a textbook case of how not to handle a situation like this. This situation was entirely avoidable. It was all about poor management. We ordered at 11:08...5 minutes after arriving. Our first hint of "Houston, we have a problem" was when our table remained un-bussed 30 minutes later. The server told us that one order was causing a delay and it was taking 45 minutes. A ludicrous statement. Having worked as a waiter when I was young, if one meal is going to cause such a catastrophic failure on so many levels then the restaurant is doomed. At the 45-minute mark my wife got up to make sure our order wasn't lost. The manager said, "no, it's coming...it's up there". People looked like Whooping Cranes...heads elevated above their extend necks trying to get even a glimpse of food being delivered in a desperate hope that it just might be theirs. The morning became surreal. It was like being in the movies where hostages are taken and everyone must band to gather. Quickly becoming friends and allies in their effort to defeat their captors. We were in breakfast purgatory! We watched as food was eventually being delivered to starving patrons. We would watch food go by with our server bashfully looking away from our gaze so he did not have to confront the scrutiny of our stare. The delay was so unbelievable we began to joke about it to remain civil. I got up to warn new arrivals entering in line to order that they were about to become prisoners. At least a couple listened...I'm afraid the others may still be there. A family of 5 was sitting next to us. They had not been seated very long. We joked about the delay and eventually the father got up to inquire about their meal. Upon his return, he told us the manager told him that he couldn't tell him how long it would be. Suddenly a single woman who took her seat only minutes earlier had her food delivered! What? It was just a bowl of soup, but she felt guilty eating knowing how long we had waited! It was like one of the prisoners was given food by the captors and the rest of us were not and she didn't want any trouble! Meanwhile a group of fireman that came in probably around 30-45 minutes after us (but whose counting) watched as their order came out piecemeal! Eventually the family received their meal!! It was 12:08...one hour after our arrival. They had sat well after us. We teased them and asked what he must have said. We learned that they had to wait longer for a table and they had actually been waiting since 11:07! One minute more than us! When the man learned that we ordered one minute later, he said with a grin, "be patient"...then he laughed. We all laughed again, but then we knew...our meal must not be lost. It is just a minute or two behind! Certainly we will be eating soon!! I told my wife to just hold on...the end of the ordeal seemed near. I told her we would wait until 12:38 and if the meal hadn't come we would leave. At exactly 12:38 the table behind us finally got their meal (they only waited an hour)! When they stated the meal was wrong and the egg sandwich was cold...our confidence that our meal would be coming anytime soon, that it would be accurate or that it would be hot...was gone. We went up to the front side-by-side to confront our captors. The manager apologized for the delay...I showed him our receipt and he said, "I'll check the order". I told him "No thanks"...he'd already done that! I could see all the food ready for delivery on the food runway and it was painfully obviously our meal was not anywhere in sight. Nothing but sandwiches and salads ready for delivery. We received our money back and left with a ticket for 2 complimentary breakfasts. When we left, our neighbors had begun to do the same, warning those in line before it was too late. Now you have been warned. read more

My girlfriend and I dined in a couple months ago. (my mother finally convinced me to write this) We had been regular customers for years and I had planned on doing a rather large catering order with them, but I won't be back. We walked in and were holding hands. Her and I were looking over the menu. Once we knew what we were going to order, we stepped up to the cashier. We waited... Waited.. Almost 15 minutes go by, I asked if someone was going to help us and the man behind the line responded, "no." At this point, the rest of the staff had disappeared. I have never been more offended and devastated. My girlfriend and I left. She was in tears and the custodian apologized as we left. I am a training manager at a restaurant, and I see all different kinds of people. It's sad that in 2015 that people are still discriminated. I used to love Corner Bakery. I took out a Caesar salad and got home to find some of salad brown/wilted. I thought they forgot the bread but the staff told me they're no longer serving bread but instead gave me two small pieces of a stale baguette!
