While this city has no bar shortage, I'm always happy to see a new bar pop up, especially off south Lamar. Upon entering, the staff was super friendly, and made me feel like I was part of some special event (the opening). What can I say? I'm soooo trendy. But trendiness aside, the bar was offering some good drinks, and there is a great patio that will be perfect for those 70 degree winter days. My main complaint was that it was extremely loud and somewhat difficult to hear the person next to me. This could be due to the crowd or bad acoustics, but I have a feeling once they get their groove and normal clientele, it shouldn't be a problem. I used to love this bar, the staff and everything about this place. I came here regularly, supported them as a local business and have even recommended this place to friends. After last nights experience, I will NEVER be back. Let me preface this by saying I love to go to bars and I enjoy having drinks. I understand what happens at bars. I understand what happens when people drink. I also understand the difference between drinking and serving responsibly vs. recklessly. Not only is what I witnessed completely in violation of several TABC laws (duh, this was so obvious it was stupid ), but several peoples lives were put in danger. I have lost more than one friend to drunk driving accidents, and this place almost helped create another. So irresponsible it makes me sick. As I mentioned, I'm an adult, I go to bars and understand, OBVIOUSLY, people go there to drink, but this was just total negligence. I came up here towards the end of the night (about 1:30am), sober as a bird to meet my friend, and found him sitting at a table facing the bartenders (which were not any of the staff I have ever seen here before, btw) FALLING ASLEEP on the table with a half full beer in his hand, and his friend stumbling around, ordering MORE shots for the two of them. No one had even attempted to cut them off at that time or remove his drink as he's drunkenly passing out in their establishment, but were STILL CONTINUING TO SERVE HIM KNOWING HE WAS ALREADY INTOXICATED. What an EXCELLENT idea CORNER BAR!... NOT. I saw this and immediately walked him out the door and attempted to drive him home safely with me, since, again, I was completely sober. You'd think with these bartenders blatantly seeing this person they obviously over served to the point of falling asleep at their bar, they would A.) cut him off (they actually never should have served him in the first place because he was already noticeably intoxicated when he showed up) B.) Give him a water and remove his drink and C.) Call him a cab so he doesn't hurt himself or others driving home. Pretty text book stuff. They did none of these things, and were perfectly okay with continuing to serve him and then let him get in the car and drive. Great idea, let him kill himself or others... Not a lawsuit waiting to happen or anything, Corner Bar! This is unacceptable, and socially irresponsible. I understand that yes, the majority of the fault if this were to have turned into a drunk driving incident is my friends fault. He is a grown man capable of making his own decisions. He also is obviously incapable of drinking in a responsible way and that is 10000% his problem. However... It is Corner Bar's responsibility to serve responsibly, and at the very least, have staff aware enough to know when it's okay and not okay to serve someone...AND WHEN TO CALL SOMEONE A CAB SO THEY DONT HURT THEMSELVES OR OTHERS. I am so disgusted and disappointed with this place, and think it's important for this to be brought to someone's attention before someone gets hurt and they have a lawsuit. You're welcome, Corner Bar. And you've also lost a customer. read more

The beer selection is good and the staff is friendly. I've been here a few times and never disappointed. The one request I would make is to turn down the keg frig a little, I can't taste the beer when it's so cold. read more

I think they're under new management and he brought his rift raft with him, I don't think I would have updated my review but others who frequent noticed what I noticed and it def is not the same place and the "clientele" def has changed. Browns bbq is legit and on point still but the rest is just not what it used to be. If I wanted "titty bar" scene, I'd go to one. Can't believe I forgot to review this place! This bar is at the intersection in which my hubs and I cross lamar on our adventurous walkabouts, (we never drink and drive), to go from horseshoe (rip), to Gibson, waaaay on down. Corner has a great bathroom, the bartenders don't mind if you ask for water with your drink, and a lot of times they have beer and shot specials. I've never been in a way that's like "yes we are meeting Craig and Amy at Corner Bar", but it's a great in between. Boring. Sorry guys, but we were really excited about this new place. We live 5 minutes away and thought it might be a fun, within walking distance new bar to call a new "spot". It looks like someone with zero style decided to put up a building and throw some beers on a shelf. You need character to be in the 04....and this place has NONE. It's not horrible but overpriced, especially for a boring beer selection. I guess we'll stick with Black Sheep until the next new place opens. Based on reviews, I had high hopes. Bartender Barbie wasn't very attentive and was on her phone (the flashlight was on too) when I tried to order a drink and ignored me at the bar. There were less than 10 people there on a Wednesday night. Not a great experience. I'm a local and this will be forever off of my list to come. I certainly won't bring anyone I like here. I could see that many folks appreciate the free food (BBQ, pulled pork sandwiches) on Sunday. :) Not a bad deal. I only had Shiner so no challenge on the drinks - it was cold, and the limes were fresh and juicy. Bar is small...band played for about an hour, and were really loud for such a little place. Liked that they offered up some space to a friend of mine to sell her handmade jewelry for the day. Nice place, just a bit small. Parking was a challenge even at 5 pm on a Sunday so not sure how that is managed on a Friday or Saturday night. Anyway, it's just a-ok. This is the perfect place for people who drive Mustangs. Which is to say, I pretty much hate it. Or at least, just not my thing. For a "bar" that really isn't anything else (no hotel, no restaurant, no dancefloor), it's embarrassingly stocked. But the biggest thing is the music just SUCKS. We stayed for two drinks and couldn't make it past another song. The only saving grace is at least the bartender was really nice and accommodating. read more

I'm hooked! This place is so much fun! I love the location! Love the music (I mean, too loud? Come on!). And they've even had live music a few times when I've been there which was a nice change. I heard they had a DJ too, but need to find out when that's happening again. My favorite things so far are going for drinks after work and sitting on the patio on a nice night with a few friends and SUNDAYS! Sundays are great! Not only do they have a Bloody Mary bar and Mimosas (my fav!), but the owners have been cooking food on a huge bbq pit and... it's FREE!! Very nice touch :-) As far as some of the other reviews, I heard that they are working on opening the side patio but ran into some issues with the city (big surprise). And personally, I like the valet option. I'd rather that than fight the parking around there. It's not at all pretentious to me to have that option... it's smart! Again... I'm hooked! This isn't a bad place for day drinking. It's a nice little bar but I'm not sure if it's aiming to be a neighborhood bar or a classy, craft cocktails bar. I think it need to stick to be a neighborhood joint. They have some cool little specials. On Tuesdays, they have a special for anyone wearing chuck taylors. Pro- I liked the fact that there were three eateries to pick from right next to it. ( I hate how most bars around here have one lame food truck parked next to it and you never know if it will be open or not- food trucks are so flakey) We brought over a pizza from the pizza place it was above average. It's looks pretty nice inside, I could see this being a place for ladies to gather after work, or a place to hit before going down town. But not a place for a bunch of dudes to hang out together. but they are trying very hard to appeal to dudes with all the big TVs- which could be good or bad depending. Nice front patio. Drinks specials are always a plus. I liked the mix of music , but I would guess it depends heavily on who is working and what night it is.There was a very cute puppy there, looks like he belonged to someone who works there or owns the place. I loved that puppy, that was my favorite part. I noticed some board games on my way out, would like to check that out. I am thinking about having my bday here soon, but I am not sure of the crowd on a Saturday night (since we went on a tue), I want to go somewhere near my house, where I can wear heels but is not anything like downtown. Cons- my husband and I really like to play darts when we go out ( probably because we don't go to bars to hit people or to get hit on. So bars offering a way to entertain score points with us) I think the dart board situation could be improved. The darts and pretty flimsy, they are very lightweight. They also need a chalk score board. And a line measuring where to stand. And that side patio was down wind from a trash can, which was right behind where the board is, so it was an un avoidable smell. These may seem like weird small complaints, but they are easily improved and would increase my interest in returning ( maybe other would agree) Perhaps they just recently put this up and are working out the kinks. You would not think about it until you actually tried to play a game, which was hard to do. read more
