If you are late for breakfast, you're going to get a warmed-over biscuit. That's just the way it is. Life ain't aways fair. And we were very late for breakfast. 11:30 to be exact. The other diners we were going to try were closed. Without a plan "C" I searched for the closest, which was Corner Café. Still in the mood for breakfast and their menu said breakfast all day. Their Menu covers all things diner food, daily specials and pie. A true small-town diner usually has "Ham, Beans and Cornbread" as the day's special at least one day a week. That was today, along with the other options listed was meatloaf. I'm here for breakfast. 2 Eggs, 2 sausage patties, hashbrowns, biscuits and a big bowl of gravy was my choice. My wife went with the same except for bacon and toast. These big meals were a bargain, $7.99 ea. The hot breakfasts were on the table withing minutes. Eggs were cooked just right, sausage fair, excellent thick smoky bacon. The hashbrowns weren't crispy enough for me. The café served a generous bowl of gravy with my two leftover reheated biscuits. Met up with a friend and had breakfast. Food was very good and service was friendly. I want to say a very huge thank you to the owner that took the time to listen to me and help me with a mix up on the charge to my card. I thought that I was somehow over charged and came back to the restaurant to speak with him. He was very patient and thorough with his explanation and search for my transaction receipt. It happened to be on the card carrier end. I felt like a real jerk after the fact but he made it a point to say he understood my point of view. I really appreciate his kindness! read more

I've been on the lookout for a go-to diner since moving to the area and this is only the second one I've found so far. I won't name the bad ones, but this is one of the better ones. I had the burrito plate which I think all good diners should have. Their chili was really good and they were generous with it. Their dinners are also very generous. Hubby got the chicken fried steak with a mountain of mashed potatoes, green beans, cottage cheese and a delicious, warm, fluffy roll. He enjoyed it all and had more than enough leftover for another meal. Now onto the best part, the waitress. She brought out our toddlers food right away since she only ordered corn, so I loved that. She also brought her a few coloring books even though she was more than happy with coloring the one kids menu page. Then at the end of the meal she gave us some quarters to get our toddler a trinket out of their machines because "she did so well" through the meal. We ordered a dessert to go and she threw in an extra for free. She was the sweetest. I loved everything about the place and can't wait to go back. This is, hands down, the best liver and onions I've ever had **ANYWHERE.** Even if you do not like liver, you will like this. Rich and tender, and sliced a bit thicker than normal. Absolutely the best. Order it "medium", not "well done". It's still thoroughly cooked through, but about prime rib tender. Definitely ask for extra onion, though. A dinner comes with THREE sides, and I chose black eye peas, spinach, and green beans all of which were fantastic. The only down side I can think of is that the brown gravy was a bit too salty for my taste. But, hey, this is comfort food. Just order the gravy "on the side". I've lived right here in Collinsville for the past couple of years and only now gotten around to visiting Corner Cafe. It was an impromptu diversion after finding out Silver Dollar Cafe is closed on Mondays. Me and my daughter decided to meet here instead. It's worth the drive to Collinsville (even from anywhere in the U.S.) just to get this liver and onions. Waitress was wonderful, and the small town cafe feel was just as good. As a native Tulsan, it's interesting that of the only three negative reviews, TWO of them were from San Francisco. They "tried that in a small town" and found out, "we do things a little different around here." ;-) read more

My wife and I stoped in the Collinsville Corner Cafe on Sat 12-14-24 for breakfast. My wife had the croissant sandwich that she could on eat part of. The croissant was not flacky at all, it was like it was heated in the microwave. I had eggs and bacon with hashbrown the eggs came out under cooked and after returning them to be cooked more to my liking everything apeared to be fine. We eat and had to request our ticket at the counter because our server was busy on her phone to bring it. About two hours later I started having some abdominal pains and from that point I lost everything I had eaten in 2024 plus spent 3 days in bed & bathroom. Never again will I eat there. read more

We'd tried Corner Cafe not long after they opened and it was a tragedy. Cut nearly 2 years later, and we decided to give it another shot. As it happened, history repeated itself. We stopped in for a late breakfast while running errands. The Kid got the usual spaghetti and meatballs (hold the meatballs, because she's odd like that), The Wife got a Denver omelet, hash browns and biscuits/gravy, while I went with the ham & cheese omelet, browns and B/G myself. In just a matter of minutes, we each were served 2 biscuits and about a half bowl of gravy. That's it.... just biscuits and gravy. I'm kind of odd in that I like to put gravy on my omelet or eggs, so I didn't touch mine, nor did the wife. I suspect she was waiting for the rest of her meal as well. Several long minutes later, the entrees arrived. I remembered our last visit, and that The Kid's meatballs were still frozen in the center when they were served, so I rolled a little spaghetti around and got a bite from deep in the center. Ice cold. So that told me the entire mess was just thrown on a plate and warmed up in the microwave. Poorly warmed up at that. When I pointed it out to our server, she was apologetic and whisked it back to the kitchen, to no doubt be reheated yet again in the microwave. When it returned, the edges of the place were almost blisteringly hot, and the center of the spaghetti only slightly lukewarm. Stirred up, it was warm enough to eat, and I honestly didn't think a third trip through the nukerator was going to help a helluva lot. The Wife was okay with hers at the time, only to say it wasn't good at all once we had left the place. She's polite like that. My omelet was terrible. The bacon tasted stale, burnt was no doubt left over from the day before. The ham pieces were scorched terribly and had an overwhelming burnt flavor. The pieces of sausage that I could coax out of the omelet were okay, but there were mighty few of them. The hash browns were fair, being dry and devoid of much flavor at all. The biscuits looked to have come right out of a prebaked package from Sam's bakery, small, dry and pitiful. The gravy was the best thing to be had, and it was lackluster at best. I must admit, this review was pretty much written after that second bite of spaghetti, because that told me nearly all I needed to know about the standards in the kitchen at the Corner Cafe. Maybe they should change the name to "Chef Mike's" in honor of their head cook, the microwave oven. I just wish they'd move to a corner farther away, like maybe Montana, so a GOOD diner could take that space. read more

I ordered a chicken fried chicken today on the special list. it came like a dried up old boot. I took 3 bites and spit them out. I didn't eat any of the meal. Instead of taking it off the bill, they took off 4 dollars of the $13.00 meal. I didn't eat any of it. I have eaten there many times. l told them to leave the fries but they snagged it up and didn't bring them back. I will never go back again. I can't recommend this place anymore. We have eaten here about 6 times. We always go right after church because it's not far from our church. We have never had a bad meal here! Sometimes we have breakfast, but we've had burgers and fries and also Mexican dishes. The service is spot on always friendly and accommodating! The Cafe is always clean . I noticed today another couple that was in there the last time we were. Some people wouldn't like it here. I have family that doesn't care for it, but everyone is different. I would tell people try it once and if you like it great if you don't then go somewhere else. I waited to give a review but so far everything has been consistently good! read more
