I couldn't resist the temptation to stop in at Billy Sims BBQ at 38th and Peoria today and grab some lunch. It is definitely one of my "go to" lunch places. If I could give it 6 stars I would. Everything on the menu is awesome. Their meat and sides are some of the best in the entire state of Oklahoma. I ordered a half rack of ribs today which will be enough for lunch and dinner both. I ordered online and used a code that their website provided for a free dessert. The code wasn't applied and I was charged for the dessert that I would not have ordered if it had not been free. When I asked at the restaurant, the manager told me that he would email someone and I would receive a refund. Had a quick spontaneous stop here for some food, and wasn't disappointed. Baked beans and coleslaw were as well done as you can find anywhere. Where I give this place 4 stars is in the BBQ itself.. The chicken was pretty good in flavor but was just a little dry and weirdly cooked/made. Hard to explain but just didn't look right. The brisket was a lot better! Great texture and look to it, and they serve plenty of it. Finally their in house BBQ sauces are in small little processed/sealed packets that I find very disappointing in a BBQ restaurant. Oh wow...I'm so glad my Grandma recommended this place. I'm usually a Rib Crib or Albert G's kinda girl, but I'm not fussy when it comes to good BBQ, and if you know me, you know I will eat anything and at the very least, only semi enjoy it. I just learned today, from a friend in SF, that Billy Sims was a football player for the University of Oklahoma and he even won a Heisman trophy! Woo hoo, so now I like it even more. We both chose the you pick two combo. I had the chicken and turkey, with green beans (yeah, with BACON) and potato salad. My grandma had the ribs and chopped brisket. OMG! I'm glad she was willing to share with me. Don't get me wrong, I like brisket and ribs, but just prefer chicken/turkey over that. Black people BEWARE! I went to this location to pick up an order that my daughter had placed (and paid for) for me (over an hour before I arrived), because she was excited to treat me to a birthday dinner. When I went inside, I was asked if I was Grubhub or DoorDash (I'm not...surprise surprise), coincidentally no other customers were asked that in the time (over an hour) that I waited to get my food...again...over an hour! Also, coincidentally *wink *wink, None of the other customers were Black. Anyway, in the 60 min + that I waited for my order (don't forget that my 3 meat combo, plus one extra meat was paid for over an hour before I even arrived, in case I forgot to mention that), none of the white customers that came in were asked if they were there for Grubhub or DoorDash. Additionally, I watched as all the white customers were told that they had run out of meat that those customers had requested...Even going so far as to take the phone from one customer and offering varying solutions to the person on the other end of the line. I sat patiently as these other customers came and went...It's busy, so why complain?!? But then when it was FINALLY my turn to get my order, I realized I didn't have all the meats my college aged daughter (who is working 2 jobs to pay for school, but insisted on treating me to a birthday dinner, had paid for), I asked (politely, because I made sure to let them know that "I know my place" just like that worker handling my food acted like he expected)...I was told, "I can't give you what I don't have"...No apologies. No explanation. No substitutions. Just a, 'take what you get and shut up' attitude from the worker. That was bad enough, but when my wife decided to leave a Yelp review, the owner of the restaurant decided to make excuses for their bad behavior and comment with the business equivalent of "I have a black friend so I can't be racist" and even went so far as to blame HER for creating division because of our "perception". They acknowledged that they might possibly hire racists, but then basically said that they aren't to blame. They mentioned the video footage of my time in the restaurant, and said they didn't see anything racist or rude. Not even bothering to apologize for the absolutely horrible customer service that was given (even if they thought it wasn't racist). After my wife called them out in her Google review, they updated their Yelp review to say that the single (ignorant and rude) employee that said "I can't give you what I don't have" wasn't racist, and even stated that that he wasn't rude. This location obviously thinks that Blacks are not entitled to decent treatment. This location seemingly feels that Black people should feel privileged just to walk through their door. This location is seemingly ok with hiring racists and will blame the victim and tell US not to create division. This location seems to have a problem from owner to cashier, and it's obvious. I would recommend that Black people spend their money ANYWHERE but here! Shoot...throw it out the window, if you want your money to be more appreciated than it is at this restaurant. If you complain, your review will be met with, "We have a black founder" so we can't be racist, but we all know what that means...And an accusation that WE are causing division (which we all know us code for, "shut up and appreciate that we even let you in). This thought process is what keeps racism alive. This is something we've always had to deal with, but now we don't have to let them use a black face to get our money while they also hide behind it. The days of minstrel song and dance are over. Spend your money at a business that is happy to see you! My usual go to BBQ place was closed. So, on Sunday afternoon, I decided to try Billy Sims. I called in the order and told them the time I would like to pick it up. "No problem sir." I actually arrived a little early and was told they just finished putting it together for me. The bologna was perfect, ribs were good, smoked turkey a nice change from the usual BBQ fare, average sausage and somewhat dry for my taste chopped brisket. But then, that is what sauce is for. They offered me hot and mild sauce. I took some of each. I failed to ask if they have an extra hot. The hot had a slow burn but wasn't four alarm hot. More of a medium to mild in my book. Also, it had more of a ketchup flavor to it than I prefer. The side of beans were good. The potato salad was your classic this is what I remember from grandma's house delicious potato salad. Not bad BBQ. Went here cause of the reviews. The ribs had a generous amount of seasonings and they were tender. Baked beans have shredded pork in it; I loved them my husband didn't. Mac and cheese was decent. There's three different sauces. Customer service was great, they have a hearing impaired worker which I think is great, the other employee was signing with him and learning the right sign if it was wrong. Maybe have a notice for customers though because a couple of guys tried talking with him while his back was turned. Oh And the sweet tea was good: fountain drinks as well. So the 'Great Bean Conspiracy' is apparently effecting orders from Billy Sims via Grub Hub. Order came, slightly cold, but more importantly they left out part of the order. Called the restaurant and was informed that I was at least the 3rd caller who was missing baked beans. It's official, Grub Hub drivers are bean addicts and will steal your baked beans. Be wary ordering from Billy Sims if your order contains anything bean or baked. I was told that I could drive down and pick up some beans but that kind of defeats the purpose of Grub Hub. Anyway just thought anyone thinking of ordering should know that apparently the Billy Sims guys are faultless and the Grub Hub drivers are bean fiends. In case you don't get the sarcasm in this post the key points are that Billy Sims doesn't give a crap if they screw up and will gladly tell you to screw yourself if you point out any flaws in their system. read more

This is certainly an old location and it shows, the building itself looks pretty run down. The barbeque speaks for itself though. I normally go with the chopped brisket which is always delicious. The employees are always friendly when I come in. Its hardly ever busy. They have a pretty good selection as far as entrées go. Their sides are decent, I wouldn't go with the beans and sadly this is a bbq place without fried okra. But all in all a good barbeque place to stop for a quick bite. This is by far the best Billy Sims in town! I have two other locations closer but will still drive for this one.

The BBQ wasn't smoked on site and dry. It was the most average I have ever tried. For the money I will not go back.
