I gotta say, this place is definitely a hole-in-the-wall, but...what a diamond in the rough! The food is absolutely delightful. My first time here I got the black bean chicken, chicken egg foo yung, and hot and sour soup. The black bean chicken is the best I've had to date in So Cal. The chicken was tender and juicy and the black bean sauce was loaded with fermented black beans and garlic. There's no word to describe the Egg Foo Yung other than gargantuan. The patty was so big, thick, and chock full of goodies (bean sprouts and chicken) and the brown sauce was smooth and savory with a hint of saltiness. Geez I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. The hot and sour soup was more traditional than say P.F Chang. It was actually sour and slightly spicy. I would have liked more spice but it was nice to have hot and sour soup that was actually hot and sour unlike most toned-down Americanized joints. The place was empty when we first came in so we were hesitant to stay. But still decided to stay and give it a shot. Usually when a restaurant is empty, it's not a good sign. This was not one of the cases. Once we sat down and ordered our food, we noticed that a ton of people order this place for takeout. People were coming and going throughout our entire dinner. Hotsour soup 2/5 bland Crab Rangoon 3/5 nice crisp, low filling Garlic pepper wings 3/5 seasoned w. 5spice and did not see it described this way. I don't like 5spice. My husband found them decent. Not crispy enough. Kung pao shrimp 2/5 . Bland. Overwhelmed with onions. Portion size was small, did not even cover the bottom of the container. Mongolian beef 3/5. Bland. Also, overwhelming with onions which is fine except they were not cooked down so it felt like a dose of raw onions. This dish had the most flavor of all of them and meat was tender. Portion size was normal Mooshu pork 1/5. No seasoning at all. Tasted like everything was steamed and had no flavor. The plum sauce included is a prepackaged yellow substance. It was not the traditional sauce. My addil requests were ignored. Requested addil sauce for the mooshu and requested addil vegetable in my kungpao. It doesn't matter at this point bc it wouldn't have helped either dish. One large container of rice accompanied the order. The rice was good. The prices are ridiculous for the portions but just insulting bc of quality. No, we will not be eating here again. read more

We used to really like this place, but over the past several months, the portions have gotten smaller, the food less taste and the cost has significantly gone up. They are always very quick to deliver, but for two of us to order a meal from them, the cost is well over $65 just for two people ordering two meals. Ordered delivery from here on Grubhub and was super disappointed - the fried rice was overly salty (said my mother who salts McDonald's fries) and had a piece of undercooked pork/chicken in it; the chicken teriyaki was just soy sauce and onions, and the sweet and sour chicken was a deep red that looked like the bbq sauce and had no flavor. The white rice was good though ‍ so maybe they're Chinese items are better but for close to $60 before fees for 3 items, we won't be trying it again. read more

This place is a 3.5 in my book. Ordered through Grub Hub. (Drinks were not on the menu to order for delivery so I put a note if I could order drinks and received a call from a nice gentleman, who said he can add it and adjust the price) Kudos to him! If you like cream cheese with a bit of artificial crab meat, you'll enjoy this. Tasted home made. The fried rice was meh. Bland, even with all the stuff they add. It looks like it would be flavorful, but it wasn't. Salt and pepper wings tasted more like 5 spice wings. Was not expecting that. I was expecting it to be like the picture and/or tossed with onions and jalapeno pieces like other restaurants. However, wings are huge and juicy and I love that it was all flats. Mayo shrimp also tasted home made to me. Like how I would make it at home. So I enjoyed this dish, it also came with white rice. Honey milk tea was good, you can taste the honey and the tea. And it tastes like they use real tea. Very refreshing ! I just wished it was filled up all the way. I wanted a receipt, but didn't see any in the bag and the Grub hub driver didn't hand me anything even after I tipped, so I'm assuming they didn't give one? Today, my friend was kind enough to take me to lunch to a place that she had been to a couple of times once to eat in and once to take out. She praised the food although rather pricey she said and was the best Chinese she enjoyed and a very long time. I read the reviews they were really good. But, sadly to say not today. There was no dining inside and there are never any tables outside I was told. My friend said the staff person was the one who cooked our food not the owner who was not around. When we arrived to her home she mentioned how salty it was an I thought it was very oily. Not really much of a taste for a kung pao chicken very little spice and a lot of onions. She ordered a couple of cream cheese wontons which were okay, with two small containers of a very creamy white rice with a few peas in it. Last night I was craving Chinese food - and found Corner Cafe on Yelp - good reviews and great looking food pics. I ordered beef and broccoli as well as Kung pao beef altered to my liking (no peanuts and not spicy). Both dishes tasted nice but felt healthy (not your typical greasy Chinese) ... It is hard to find good Chinese food in San Diego (or maybe I don't know where to look). This place is a hidden gem. Tucked away on a street in Banker's Hill, you can order ahead and arrive to some delicious Chinese food. Our go-tos are beef chow mein, crispy chicken and the egg rolls or dumplings. We have never been disappointed and feel like the veggies and meat they use are fresh. The menu is massive so we will definitely be headed back to try some other dishes. read more

The food was very tasty and I will be back for sure when I am in town again. The reason that they didn't get that 5th star was that they only had bottled drinks for sale and no tea. They have this cool neon sign on the wall about tea and then they didn't have any.... I was crushed. We also asked if they had cups of water and they said only what was in the case. My husband ordered beef with black pepper sauce and my in- laws ordered beef chow fun and I ordered sweet and sour tofu. The beef and the noodles were very tasty what I found lacking was the sweet and sour sauce. It had a nice color however it did not have a lot of flavor. Usually there is a nice contrast between the sweet and sour ( when I am home I will sometimes make my own) and this was lacking that. They did give rice with our orders (at least the ones that don't have noodles) and when I took a bite it had no flavor. My husband is Chinese and so I make rice a lot ( I know what taste should be there) and there was nada. When I added the sauces from the dishes then the rice was ok however with the sweet and sour it had no flavor. I will be back to try other items in the future. Found this place thanks to yelp and other helpers reviews. I decided to pull the trigger and bought lunch there for me and my spouse. Portions are big enough to share. Ordered the orange chicken and veggie fried rice. Both options were plentiful. I went ahead and ordered the fried rice because I read a few reviews that the portion of steak rice they serve is not equal to the amount of protein.
