We found this place on Yelp as we left Gainesville. (I made an error when I read how far it was to get there! But it was a pleasant mistake, not to mention the road very scenic to get there. They were advertising a Pecan Pancake" for a special. As I had never had one, I ordered it along with my omelette. My husband ordered eggs, grits, biscuits and gravy! We both felt the food was excellent! He felt the grits had a nice texture, the gravy was ok and the biscuit was big and fluffy for a biscuit. My omelette was very tasty and that pancake, in my opinion, was to die for! It was humongous! We couldn't finish it! It had lots of pecans on the bottom and it was huge and fluffy! Our wait staff was friendly and we were served in a timely fashion.The place is quite entertaining as we read all the plaques and signs on the wall. Some were quite witty. Great breakfast! Blueberry pancakes, thick sliced bacon omelets fruit and coffee served hot. Stellar service is agreeable and friendly. Located about a block off the square they are easy to find. Quaint small little place impresses you with charm right from the get go. Smiles abound on both sides of the counter. Folks seem genuinely happy to be here both the cut and the employees. Courtesy is the order of the day. It's a pleasant environment one that makes you want to linger longer and return soon. We had lunch one day and it didn't quite live up to the grandiose breakfast but sandwiches were large and meaty. They have very stand up cold pickles. read more

It is a cute little restaurant decorated in a rustic, county decor. The seating was a bit close and tight for me, I just like having a comfortable walking and moving perimeter without feeling as if I am interfering with others. It does make for intimate conversation with your neighbors. As we enter and sit down, a waitress arrives shortly, we are given the menus and the specials are posted. One of the specials was an omelet that contained mushrooms and I wanted to have spinach instead. I was informed that the cook is from New York and is very similar to the "Soup Nazi on Steinfield", rigid and unyielding, (my words). Okay, no problem I simply order the "Keep it Simple" which comes with eggs, breakfast potatoes and a biscuit (to taste only). However, I'm thinking in the back of my mind that if this guy thinks his food is so great as is, he needs to deliver a meal that makes me sit back and shut up! Let's see what you've got Homey! My husband orders the omelet special "as is", (cheese, mushrooms and sausage) and it comes with toast. So when the food is delivered I immediately notice that the mushrooms, (in my husband's omelet), are from a can as suspected, (*Strike 1). My potatoes are not fresh, but taste like leftover potatoes that have been deep fried to an unpleasant crisp on the outside. (*Strike 2). The eggs have an odd taste and my husband said it tastes as if they were cooked in old oil. I prepare my eggs in very little grapeseed oil and expect to taste nothing but fresh delicious eggs. (*Strike 3) Homey struck out in a big way! and just to confirm, the biscuit that was only for taste and something that I would never actually eat, was very dense and heavy and just not what I want to see on my plate. I am always tempted to taste the biscuits because I just cannot understand Georgia's fascination with biscuits!! I bet we went through 8 or 9 restaurants that featured biscuits as their idea of breakfast. It is out of control and I just don't get it! Overall, this restaurant is just lacking fresh food that is properly executed. If you are going to be so persnickety that you don't allow additions, you really need to be able to "bring it"! There was nothing on my plate that was edible, so my meal was appropriately removed from the bill. At least I had the water! A group of 12 friends stopped there on the way out of town after a weekend retreat. We were seated 10 minutes before breakfast hours were over. They were happy to take our breakfast order and it was worth it. The food was very good. The biscuits were huge and very good. I had a standard breakfast with eggs, hash, biscuit and gravy and bacon. Gravey was creamy and yummy. Eggs cooked perfectly and nice crispy bacon. Others in our group had the baked egg dish with sausage, and veggies and cheese. No complaints. The place itself is small and quaint with lots of crafts, amusing and inspirational wall hangings. We did not have a long wait for a Sunday morning. The service was quick and pleasant. A nice and homey feel. It's rustic country for breakfast or lunch only. The hours are seasonal so check times for that day. They have daily specials each day. The portions are pretty large in my opinion. My first visit was really good and my husband felt so too. He had the country fried steak breakfast. I had the keep it simple plate with eggs, grits and a biscuit with gravy. Our waitress was friendly each visit. If you sit near the fireplace there are magazines, coloring books and games. The restaurant is also attached to a antique store. If you arrive at the right time it's fun to walk off a little breakfast. I will definitely continue to frequent this little gem that takes you back in time. Update as of July 13th: We thought they served a breakfast and lunch menu all day but to our surprise they stop serving breakfast at 1pmI was told but the menu states 12 pm. Normally this is not a problem but I am a vegetarian again and I need protein. Since there is not a breakfast menu I am okay with grilled veggies over grilled cheese bread but hardly any protein. I didn't ask for any pancakes or waffles just could they add an egg onto my order. I was told that is not allowed! I don't understand why since they have eggs in the fridge. so I'm sad to say I will have to take away a star. Now they do have bacon still for the BLT. But no eggs! I find it crazy to not make an exception since in today's restaurants eggs are being used on pizza, salads, and many vegetable dishes like asparagus with poached eggs, etc. And they also have egg salad but I hate mayonnaise in most salads. This place is adorable, we went to brunch here one fall weekend when we were up in the GA mountains. Likes: Such a friendly, welcoming place. Good, solid brunch. We bundled up and sat outside with our dogs while eating. Dislikes: It's been a few years, but I remember it being kind of small and having limited patio space, so I would assume it gets crowded during warmer weather. Take it or leave it: Take it. We were in Ellijay to drop off some furniture and decided to try this place. Ellijay was jammed with people and masks were few and far between. That includes this place. Someone in the kitchen may have been wearing one but no servers. There was a hand sanitizer dispenser at the door but that appeared to be the only covid precaution. We kind of stood around upon entering waiting on instructions as there was no sign posted. Finally we sat at a table and someone took our drink orders and dropped menus down and stated that a server would be right with us. Understand there were no more than 8 people in the dining area. After 10 minutes of being ignored with no explanation we started looking for the " reserved for lepers" sign. During that time I did notice a piece of toast on the floor at the end of the table. Ambience man ambience. Finally we had our orders taken and the server was very personable. And that being said the food was very good, but should have been. My husband and I searched for a breakfast place and this one popped up. We got there around 9 AM. I asked if they would make me a sandwich. They told me it was too early. So I ordered the burger that came with eggs. I told our waitress I did not want the eggs and to please put it on the side. She told me she had to bring me the eggs! I asked for pickles on my burger and they told me it was too early. I asked them if the fridge was locked? She told me no it was not locked but that her boss said it was too early for pickles!?????? We visited this location on a Sunday just before noon. The place was completely full!! We were allowed to use the seating outside which was actually refreshing. The weather was beautiful and it allowed us to enjoy the downtown area. We placed our order and waited for our food for about an hour. The owner came out and advised that she had a new waitress and she had a few issues with the overwhelming crowd. She stated the location held 55 people and I am sure the location was to capacity. Once the food arrived, it was amazing!! Well worth the wait. The country fried steak and home fries with a homemade biscuit was unbelievable. We also ordered a huge flapjack and bacon. I will say that the home fries that came with the country fried steak were totally different from those that came as a side. They were cooked thoroughly and included onions. This was a big deal to some of the guests as the taste was different. Besides this small issue of onions and the wait time, I would definitely recommend this establishment for breakfast. Upon arrival this place seemed to have so much potential, unfortunately we were very underwhelmed. My partner in crime had a plain biscuit, which was very good, and a side of sausage, which was, to put lightly, gross. This wasn't a fresh product and you could tell in the taste. More than likely it was thrown in the frying pan while still frozen. I ordered "Floating down the river", which is biscuits and gravy, and I also ordered a side of fruit. The biscuit and gravy was very good. When she brought the fruit, it couldn't be identified as to what it was, it was all gray and dull looking, and sitting in a bowl of syrup. People in town recommended this place, but we were very disappointed in our experience here. The "chicken and dumplings" had no dumplings and the broth had a sour flavor. I only had a small cup but couldn't eat even half of it. Accompanying grilled cheese had a slice of American cheese and a slice of Swiss that wasn't melted. I asked to speak to the owner about it and she told us that the server was her granddaughter and she has anxiety, so we should understand! She didn't even attempt to apologize. I told her I was livid about the way we were just treated and she said "fine," super rudely, and literally took our bill, crumpled it up and threw it! I would have rather have had good service, than a free breakfast! I felt like I was on an episode of kitchen nightmares! I sincerely recommend eating elsewhere. The first time we ate here, we waited for over 30 minutes for our food to come out only to realize that it was cold when it arrived. Decided to give it another shot and ended up turning around and leaving shortly after arriving. There were multiple empty tables covered with used plates, utensils, glasses, etc, as people stood waiting to be acknowledged by wait staff who were nowhere to be seen. This is a small family run restaurant, not some large fast food place. If you come here on Saturday or Sunday they will more than likely be busy, be prepared to wait a bit.
